Have been coming to this location since they day they opened and have never had such a shitty experience before..and they've had some pretty shitty cashiers at this location. Worst so far was Alexandria last night. Checking out...i asked for double bags and she grabs the bags and puts it in front of me. I'm confused so i ask her, am I suppose to bag these? She says "If you want.' I've never had to bag my groceries here so i say "i don't want to." Awkward silence and glares the rest of the transaction. After I pay, she rips the receipt out and throws it in the bag and immediately walks off. I'm like WTF? Why are you so pissed that i am asking you to do your job? Trader Joe's is one of those places that somehow makes grocery shopping feel less like a chore. Prices are solid, especially for what you're getting, and they've got a bunch of random, interesting stuff you won't see in regular stores. Frozen section is honestly carrying half my meals. Not perfect though. Trader Joe's is always my weakness when travelling in the states, so had to make a pitstop here to grab a few goodies. The selection here at this location was good but not the best that I have seen. It was quite busy on a weekday during the day here which I was surprised about. Picked up my favourites like the blue agave, garlic salt, seasonings and even tried a few new items. I got the rolled corn tortilla chips and they are a 5/5! The everything bagel sandwich crackers were also amazing and great to share. Overall, a great spot to do your groceries and stock up on pantry items. read more

Trader Joe's is one of the earliest ones to open in San Francisco. Inside there are lots of drinks and a food selection you can explore. You will find frozen foods, fruits , ice cream , and wine. There are also free samples of food inside and they also have events like the Hoison sauce recipe contest. I have been a loyal Trader Joe's customer for over 20 years, and today's experience (10:41 a.m., Transaction #39472, Cashier Kimberly) was honestly one of the most disappointing I've had. After purchasing our groceries and a single bottle of wine, I was asked for my ID, which I happily provided. Kimberly then requested my partner's ID as well. This was the first time this has ever happened to us despite decades of shopping at Trader Joe's. When I politely asked for a manager to clarify the policy, Kimberly told me this was "a San Francisco law" requiring two IDs to purchase wine. Based on my understanding, there is no such law. If this is a Trader Joe's policy, it should have been explained as such rather than being presented as a legal requirement. The interaction left me feeling singled out and treated differently than other customers. Whether intentional or not, experiences like this can come across as discriminatory when policies appear to be applied inconsistently. I hope Trader Joe's reviews what occurred, provides accurate training regarding alcohol sales, and ensures customers are treated consistently and respectfully. I was too overjoyed to catch the frozen section staff's name. I overheard someone saying she got the last black sesame mochi dessert. I was about 1 feet away. I love black sesame. My friend said to ask their staff if there were more inside. I asked, and the staff went inside and came back with a big cardboard tray!. That made my day. It's a fantastic supermarket that has a lot of organic items, really good for fresh produce, meats, and really nice snacks in general. They're big advocates of sustainability. Although there was a line separate for hand carts as well as push carts, the line went super quickly despite what it looked. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance in general smells of sustainability and wanting to produce organic items.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In general, I find that the quality of their products is much better than like Costco or even Target. They have a lot of food options for people who don't know how to cook, especially in preheat items or microwavable food. There is a very easily accessible downstairs parking area, and across the street, there are a lot of food options as well as a really popular thrift store. Or maybe it's for people who want an experience while grocery shopping rather than to just get it over with? However, every now and then there is actually an experience here which I think is absolutely worthwhile and makes grocery shopping less of a chore. Most Trader Joe's that l've come across are located in the suburbs or in the city. This one was down the street from Nob Hill in a cute neighborhood of San Francisco. Summer is definitely a hot month, but during the evenings near The Bay can get quite chilly and windy. There were also lots of flowers out store front, end-aisle displays of everything and anything perfect for a BBQ. Picking up few groceries was mainly the purpose of this visit. From snacks to coffee to basically anything you might have forgotten in your toiletry bag or restock some items back home. Price is always right, service from all clerks and cashiers are very consistent whenever you visit any Trader Joe's in any state. It was almost store closing time, kind of busy as I normally would visit during the after work hours. It could have been that rush before everyone heads back home from work. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cashier was super quick and friendly, store is well kept and organized, I love the building decorations as it had a lot of San Fran all over the walls.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The hardest part was heading back to the hotel at the top of Nob Hill. read more

I hate to do this but yesterday was the worse TJ experience I've had so far ever ever ever. I was shopping and every employee was friendly and helpful as usual, until I got to the counter. An older man with bushy brows, no name tag, and gloves helped me out. First, he put the perishables away like went to shelf a juice in the middle of my transaction. He came back after two minutes and I was like ok, no worries weird but ok. He brought back with a pack of mint and asked "is it yours, do you want it"? And the answer was no and no but thank you. (Weird right). He then proceeded to use one hand to scan items. I thought oh ok he's disabled no worries. No. He was just holding a glove. He was so incredibly slow and lowkey rude. He asked redundant questions about where I live to know how many bags and he charged me $10 worth of bags and I said no thank you and he asked me if I didn't want to help the planet. WTF!!! He then added he was from the east coast and this is some SF thing. My jaw literally dropped and I composed myself because I thought it was incredibly rude this man asked me if I didn't want to save the planet after I declined $10 of paper bags. Anyway, my uber was waiting outside and he stopped to chat with someone and I just thought omg this had to be a prank. He proceeded to put things in the cart with one hand and he mentioned something about he can't speed the process so I said no worries and I helped put things in the cart and he got irritated I suppose and then used his second arm, finally! Finally put that damn glove down but he started grabbing my groceries and throwing them in the cart. At this point, I looked around to see if anyone was seeing this. I was not going to argue with an elderly man after a long day of school and work so I just said thank you and proceeded to pull my cart back so that I could get out the door, and of course he needed to put the cherry on top. He pulled the cart from me and I just pulled it back so we're playing tug of war now and he said something along the lines of "no, go who's way" (as in behind him). So uncomfortable and weird. Even if it makes me look like a jerk, next time I will wait for another cashier. I would disclose his name but again, no name tag. read more

Going to Trader Joe's is one of my regular routines to keep me mentally sane. I use to get a little frustrated when they move things around or stop carrying certain items. I've gotten use to it and now I say it is not so bad. Even when they running out of stock I know they are trying their hardest to keep it in stock. And this is ok with me. Compare to the other things and people that I have deal with in my actual life they are doing a great job. I never had a bad experience at the checkout line. I don't know what people are talking about. In fact, I find it rather enjoyable and too quick. Then I can't wait till I'm at home cooking, eating, and drinking something delicious. Not only was I a Trader Joe's fan I always wanted to invest Trader Joe's. One of my biggest disappointment was when I found out they were a privately owned company. I'm more than sure I would have 10x my amount by now. Oh well, I just have to settle for just shopping there and being poor. I have a checklist on my phone to remind me of all the things I need that I check and check off. It is a list of single items and groups of items. Single items would be like eggs, cheese, wine, beer, etc. Groups of items would be like ingredients for pizza, ingredients for vegetables medley, ingredients for salad; then I sub-list all the items in the notes. I came here to just buy flowers. I tried to take photos of the flowers to see which one my grandpa would want. Then an Asian employee told me I can't take photos here. My brother asked where that policy was. The employee told me it's somewhere, she'll find me a manager. 5 minutes goes by still no manager. I call the store number and I see the gentleman by the front answer the phone. I ask for the manager and he said he was one of them. I asked him if there's a policy against photos or videos and he said not that he's aware of any. I told him the Asian lady employee told me I couldn't take photos. I won't be shopping here even if it's just for flower. read more

We were just visiting but we happened to find a Trader Joe's down the hill from our hotel. It was so nice to get OJ and Fresh pressed Red Juice without the huge hotel mark up. Plus, we got some steps in as well. My husband was able to get his beets and I was able to get some bubbly before heading back to our hotel. What is there to add except that TJs are great and they have lots of fans. Now for some local history: Many years before TJs, this was the site of Cala Foods (founded 1947; closed Dec. 2011) a supermarket that once operated 24 hours a day. This Cala Foods was featured in a few movies where you can see some exterior and interior shots. This store has a suspended roof, a popular experiment with thin shells of concrete producing sculpture like effects on buildings during the 1950s and 1960s. Prior to Cala Foods was built, this site was the car barn, a second powerhouse, and main office building of the California Street Cable Railway. We stopped in here to buy food for lunch...had 8 items and we didn't bother with a cart or hand cart since there were 2 of us. We waited in line and when it was our turn, the clerk told us that since we didn't have a cart...that we needed to get in another line!! we had already waited patiently to check out...and the other line would have been another 5-10 minutes. So...had we had an actual cart, would he have taken us? Needless to say...we put our items down and walked out. Over the many years since 2012 this Nob Hill TJ's store opened, I've observed an immense improvement of service professionals under better management. They help in so many ways finding an item for you, checking for discontinued items and providing refunds.TJ's offers great prices for eggs during a shortage in 2023. Unlike during the pandemic TJ's has changed back to normal toward its customers . Sundays seem to be the most chaotic there in case you'd like to avoid the lines. read more

Part of the operating model for Trader Joe's is that stores have quirky layouts and often challenging traffic patterns (both inside and outside the stores). This particular store in the heart of Nob Hill has inexplicably decided to reinvent the way people line up for checkout. Its system involves a separate line for "hand baskets only" (this is used in many TJs), but in this store, which is at a busy urban intersection, the majority of shoppers only use hand baskets. The result is that the "regular" line is often empty while the hand basket line is long. Following universally accepted grocery store conventions, people often leave the hand basket line when another register's line is shorter. This is against this one store's unique policy! In fact, there is a full time employee assigned to stand at the dividing line between hand basket shoppers and cart shoppers to direct traffic (when I tried to leave the hand basket line and go to an empty register, the Queue Monitor literally accused me of "cutting the line." I asked if he was serious, he said yes, so I dropped off my basket at customer service to be restocked and walked out. I love that TJs encourages its store managers to get creative. But going against a queuing protocol that has been in place at every grocery store in every town in the country for decades is never going to work. Perhaps an Operations expert from TJ's corporate office could pop into the store and work with the manager to come up with a process that doesn't require a full time staff member to educate/scold shoppers on how to stand in line. read more

They have changed the recipe for the dark chocolate peanut butter cups. The previous dark chocolate was crisp and crunchy on the smooth peanut butter center. Now it tastes like biting into a marshmallow, it's spongy. They were a special treat, no longer. read more

I like this store. I've always shopped here using my bike, normally a 5-10 minute in and out trip. Speedy compared to other chains which struggle to manage lines and registers. They always have the groceries I need. Produce is fresh 90% of the time and I haven't had any problems with staff. In fact they are very friendly at the register. I've had a few chances to chat with the cashiers when there is no line. The location is neat! Cable cars and lots of great views nearby. The bike parking is safe and monitored. But don't just take my word for it, go see for yourself! read more

This Trader Joe's in San Francisco is my go to for my weekly grocery shopping trip. There is decent parking access both in front of the store as well as below the store in a parking garage. It's also right next to a CVS so you're able to get any errands done at the pharmacy as well. The staff at this Trader Joe's location is always very friendly, helping me to locate items that I'm looking for and making great suggestions for things to make with the ingredients I buy when checking out. This Trader Joe's is also a bit small so I suggest going at less busy times like the early morning and mid day. But, even when it is busy, they always have someone assigned to direct people to different checkout lines, and the line moves impressively quick. read more

If you enjoy being bullied by staff, shop here. I recently went to exit the store & was blocked a middle-aged checkout guy named David. "I don't like it when people walk behind me!" he said. When I asked what difference that made, he said very angrily, "I DON'T LIKE IT WHEN PEOPLE WALK BEHIND ME!!" I asked why this upset him, I got an even more hostile and angry response. He was plainly going to physically prevent me from walking past him. I did walk around him just to get away from this crazed threatening clerk. I love the convenience of how close this Trader Joe's is to work! I'm usually am able to find parking in the garage, even though it can get tight at times. The staff here are friendly. It stays well stocked and the layout of the store makes it easy to find my essentials. I've shopped at this location a handful of times the last few months and it's a pleasant experience each time. The Manager Araya (or however you spell her name) is a flat out racist. I know she tends to profile black people in this store and always follows me around. I've been going to this store for years and today was my final straw. I went in this morning and noticed one of the employees kept staring at me and all I said was "what are you looking at" and that was enough for Araya to come asking me all kinds of silly questions as to why I said that to him. There was no reason at all for her to come at me as there was no kind of drama.. But she had to dig her nose in the situation and tell me I'm no longer allowed in that store anymore. So let me get this straight. Employee A, stares at me like I'm about to steal something, I asked him what he's looking at and now I'm not allowed to go back in that store?
