Bi-Rite, I love you in so many ways. Next to the farmer's market, they have the BEST produce. They even tell you what farm it came from. It costs more than the farmer's market but they truly have as many local producers and growers as possible. They have weird stuff too. Need a limequat? An aged persimmon? A yellow raspberry? They might have it, if it's in season. They have really good sandwiches and don't charge you more for gluten free bread. They toast the sandwiches! The people who work here are very diverse and really nice, many of them have worked here for years and really know their stuff. The store is cozy and well laid out. My major advice to you, however, is do not plan on getting sandwiches there. The wait time seems aggressively long, particularly on weekends when the mission is crowded. I got very familiar with the Bi-Rite Market because three days a week during my Mission High School days and still a few times a month as an adult. Also my childhood friends lived across the street on the block or around the block and also behind Bi-Rite roof which was a good hiding place when playing hide and go seek( read my Bi- Rite Russian Hill review) .So many different waves of new San Francisco residents moving or hanging out around this area and every few years there is a new wave of people trying to redefine what this area means and even giving it different nicknames( most of the names are cringy). It seems that some people claim to be knowledgeable about everything but do not acknowledge that there is a landmark of San Francisco across the street of Dolores Park called " Mission High School" since 1890. After all these years I understand the changes and I always put Bi-Rite as the best place to shop for groceries if you are nearby Dolores Park. Bi- Rite has the best selection of drinks , fruits , and even ice cream by the pint. You can almost grab anything from alcohol, food, and even flowers for the flower child's . What still exist every Summer are the flower child's at Dolores Park enjoying the sun and fog as Dolores Park has always been a fun place ( it was where I played in the sandbox and swings as a kid). Today I like opening a bottle of my favorite alcohol with a Bi- Rite sandwich and laying on the grass enjoying the views of San Francisco skyline. The progression of Dolores Park I do like today as before you would get ticketed for drinking in public at Dolores Park now it's the new normal to bust out a wine bottle of Pinot Noir or six pack of beer from Bi- Rite without being harassed. Get togethers and picnics and the convenience of just going to Bi-Rite makes you appreciate San Francisco even more. All my life Bi- Rite on 18th street in San Francisco has been consistent and available. Bi-Rite and Dolores Park make the perfect and authentic "pair" go across the street in front of Mission High School where the mascot is the "Bear "pull out a blanket or a lawn "chair" and pull out a bottle and let down your "hair "and enjoy Summer of Love and enjoy the good vibes because you can feel in the "air " Grab some chips, berries and a" pear" and a bottle of Pinot Noir for sharing but I don't "share" and I don't "care" because the vibe here is strong on the weekends which is hard to describe and so hard to "compare "it is sort of a mix of a park block party and an unofficial Dolores Park street "fair " read more

Seriously though, one of my favorite weekend activities is grabbing an incredible sandwich from the counter and enjoying it in the iconic Dolo Park. The mart is tight and usually packed on the weekends, so be prepared to wait for a bit -- but I promise it will be more than worth it. Order a sandwich at the deli counter, pay at the registers in the front, and then wait outside for them to bring your made-to-order sandwich out to you. Easy! The Lone Mountain is by far the best one on the menu -- literally wouldn't change a thing about the sandwich, from the soft focaccia to the tender chicken and the warm sauce, it is perfection. The Telegraph (their version of the roast beef) is a bit dry for my taste, but if you're not a saucy person then you might really enjoy it. The tuna sandwich was clearly high quality (I mean the tuna just melts in your mouth), but it didn't have a lot of flavor. This choice would be good if you're looking for something light and easy on the palate. Overall, be prepared for tight aisles, a decent wait, and the best sandwich in SF (as long as you order the LONE MOUNTAIN)! Go on, get the sandwich and enjoy that afternoon in Dolores. I got the prosciutto sandwich (#14?), and bought a small pack of burrata to add to the sandwich. Best decision ever, a little pricey altogether, but so worth it. The burrata cheese added some subsistence and great texture. Anyway, the shop itself is amazing full of so many different choices you wouldn't typically get from a general small store in the Bay. Beyond your regular produce and large selection of meats, there's a variety of hard-to-get options (from cashew milk, to ready garlic noodles, tin fish, fresh flower bouquets and an expansive selection of cheeses). A bit higher priced than your typical market, but seems to be worth it given the selection and quality. read more

I've been shopping here for twenty-five years. Ever since I discovered the original store on 18th, I've been a happy customer. This review is really just for the Furikake Egg Salad. Listen, I love Bi-Rite. It's like a NorCal Erewhon without the sketchy supplements or smoothies (I wouldn't mind if they had the latter). But this seemingly new-ish Furikake Egg Salad is so freaking good. I've bought it 3x in the last two weeks and it becomes the star of "picnic dinners" that usually involve this with Nordic Crisps (a newer cracker find at Bi-Rite that's also bomb), the Bi-Rite avocado chicken salad, some bread, and maybe a tin of fish or some cold cuts / cheese. But, again, this is the star. I do spiff it up with a pretty heavy hand of extra MSG, but it's great even before that. I hope they keep this as one of their packaged "salad" options forever! read more

When waiting for some friends, we were walking around and found this market. It's small, but boasts a lot of fresh, local produce, unique items, and even a deli counter. It's on the pricier side, but everything looks like it's great quality. We were starving so we decided to try the quesadilla (freshly made everyday) for $9. Find artisanal cheese, Che Fico sauces, Cascatelli pasta (iykyk), beautiful flowers, and more ... if you have the budget ..... Highly recommend their sandwich counter, though the bread is like 70-80% of the sandwich volume. The tomato Mozzerella sandwich is fresh, hearty, and lasts the next day :) the tofu bahn mi is a MUST. The tofu has a zesty marinade that makes the sandwich so yum. The cauliflower one is also really fresh and savory, but I wanted more filling - the grilled onions are divine. 4/5 for the cauliflower, but everything else was a hit! read more

Bi-rite Market is one of my go-to places whenever I decide on an impromptu trip to Dolores Park. It's a small store-front with narrow aisles packed with every picnic-goer's dream: fresh fruits, cheese, juices, crackers, charcuterie meats, jams, olives, a deli which makes delicious sandwiches, and of course, pints of Bi-Rite ice cream. The first time I came to Bi-Rite Market was a mistake; I had been looking for Bi-Rite Cremery just a little further down the street for a scoop of ice cream, but I ended up with an entire pint without needing to wait in the long line outside Bi-Rite Creamery. I definitely recommend coming here if you're okay with having a whole pint without a cone instead (they have napkins and plastic utensils near the door - definitely grab some on the way out if you plan on eating the ice cream at Dolores). I highly recommend grabbing one of the pre-made or custom-to-order sandiwches from the deli (you can also order online ahead of time to avoid waiting in line when it's busy); they look small and unassuming but are packed full of ingredients and are always very flavorful and filling, and are the perfect handheld food for a windy day at Dolores Park. The only thing you can complain about here is that it can get a little cramped and hard to navigate when it's busy, and prices can be a little high. read more

i love bi rite but i've been increasingly disappointed in the quality and false naming of many of the Asian pre packed and "inspired" foods. i was looking forward to trying the kimchee pasta salad and was quite disappointed to find there to be no significant presence of kimchee. this feels like appropriation and does not, in my mind, live up to their motto of "act with integrity" or "lead with love" of the culture these foods are from. please just change the names if you do not plan on actually using Asian ingredients. read more

Bi-Rite has a beautiful selection of local cheeses, charcuterie, wines, beers, and chocolates. They have acme bread and lovely jams. French butter. You know why this is important to me, as it is to you and many others who will begrudgingly eat Kerrygold but get excited for French Butter! I love butter. This life I live in my hometown of San Francisco is made all the more delicious thanks to Bi-Rite.
