Great local grocery store, full of an amazing selection of items. You pay a premium for it, but if you look around you will find a vast selection of specialty items that are worth the cost as well as deals if that's what you're aiming for. In alignment with the season, there are loads of holiday items to buy as gifts. The person at the register was nice as we checked out. It's a clean store, well stocked. You can find amazing bread and meat and cheese options, and a decent produce section. The prices here are outrageous compared to other grocery stores. Organic strawberries are $12.99/lb vs $6.99/lb at Whole Foods. They're the same Driscoll's strawberries! Driscoll's organic raspberries are $24/lb vs $15/lb at Whole Foods! The quality is no different! The store manager claims to have no authority in managing the security guards in the store because they are subcontracted. INCORRECT. I objected to a guard watching myself and other customers up close while we are paying and to that guard acting as greeter as well as guard, but the store manager refused to intervene! I told the manager that I did not want a guard to speak to me as I entered the store, but the manager did not even talk to the guard, who continued doing it! The manager strangely characterized what I told him as "feedback." INCORRECT. Even a cashier admitted to me that the guard was going too far. This store has to hire people with better manners. I had a package of seaweed in the stroller that I brought from my house and a man who works there asked me "where did I get it?" Accusing me of stealing it. He looked at me as if I lied. Then said Ok and he let me go. I had my son sleeping in the stroller and he embarrassed me and it made me feel bad. I like the store location on Castro Street and the food selection, but the freshly stocked regular prices are pretty expensive. I often check back on multiple days to look for the manager's special prices which often meet or beat Safeway or Amazon or Walmart prices. In the remodel, they changed their lighting, and it's way too bright. I get headaches from bright lights, and the shift into the brightness is so intense at night that I can't go inside anymore. Given the information that has come out about Kroger and price gouging, Molly stones, even for a small supermarket, stands above the rest in terms of ripping people off. I bought a bag of groceries yesterday with hardly anything in it for $60. Out of curiosity, I decided to compare what I could get a Trader Joe's for the same amount of money and it's nearly triple the amount of things that I got. What did I buy? Bananas, a bag of chips, a bottle of water, a bottle of soda, two pastries, a sandwich and packaged breakfast waffles. $60 is unacceptable and I will never shop at this store and and I discourage everyone I ever meet in the neighborhood to avoid them at all costs. read more

I do not understand what is happening with Mollie Stones. The past several Sales have the usual heading "Fresh Meat and Seafood but lately it has been one fish and one meat prepared in house (such as marinated chicken thigh) and one fresh meat (such as fresh chicken thigh). No more of their nicely extensive offerings of various beef, pork, lamb etc. This week is ridiculous. The "Fresh Meat and Seafood" section consists of Mary's Legacy boneless chicken breasts or whole chicken. Nice and certainly qualifying as Fresh Meat. However, the rest of the "Fresh Meat and Seafood" featured three Royal Asia frozen appetizers (one was a prawn dumpling and another a shrimp roll ("is that supposed to be fresh seafood"?), four Da Napoli frozen entrees such as Penne Basil Pesto and Chicken Fettucine Alfredo, Niman Ranch bacon, Roli Roti Bone Broth and Aidell's sausage. Out of all of this only the Mary's chicken breast and the Mary's whole chicken qualify as "Fresh Meat" and there was no "Fresh Seafood" to be found. I hope Mollie's gets their butcher shop back in order. It used to be excellent but this kind of offering is driving me elsewhere. read more

If for any reason you are out of alternatives to get anything better in your system, keep the Mollie Stone's in the Castro in mind; not only for the sandwich varieties they offer; but also a very meditteranean boutique grocery store kinda looking, charming cheese section of theirs, which rest assured; will cast the very first initial spell on you (As you walk into the store through its only door) putting that yummy lookin' brie or goat cheese on your shopping list; even if you won't be getting it, at that particular visit; acting as a reason to dream about it and then go back to finally GET IT! Their entire crew are all kind people. So kudos to their recruiters; as they obviously know something about creating a harmonious corporate culture with the onboarding of all right fits to that culture. It has become such a rare thing to happen for me, if you will - significantly after the pandemic - to have daily interactions that feel HUMANE with retail people whom you could personally tell are fulfilled with their jobs which is mutually joyous for the merchant & their guest, furthermore although customers do not typically tend to be vocal about the style of merchants in the way they deliver their products or services, being in a space where TEAM SPIRIT is omnipresent; makes the whole experience such a fulfilling one that you eventually say; "I'M DEFINITELY COMING BACK!". read more

A great market to have a few blocks from home. If I want a fresh organic salad with dinner, I can grab what I need. If I want a low carb ice cream treat, they have it. If I need a nice bottle of wine with dinner, they have a decent selection. They have everything to make the perfect charcuterie board, and I also enjoy their freshly made egg salad or chicken salad for a quick lunch. Along with regular staples, they carry a lot of those specialty items I get on occasion, that are hard to find at the supermarkets. read more

While the prices are typically a little higher (as in the quality most of the time), the shelves were always stocked, while other grocery stores were pillaged. Need toilet paper, they have it. Disinfectant, always had it. Paper towels, that too. The staff here too are very friendly. Especially the one that always flirts with compliments me on my haircuts ;) read more

This is my local grocery. Anybody who's reading this, next time you visit mollie stones use your phone and compare prices against Whole Foods or delivery with Amazon Fresh. Those are both expensive options. Mollie Stones is 50% to 3x more expensive than both pretty much across the board. I don't understand why anybody shops here, perhaps they never bothered to check how much they're being gouged for? If you're looking for convenience order from Amazon Fresh. Delivery is free to 6 dollars. Pays for itself easily with the savings. I'd happily support local business if the markup was 10%. It's not. A small box of strawberries is 15 dollars. A tub of Fage yogurt is 10 dollars (6 on Amazon fresh). A cut of salmon is 20 dollars (I paid 9 at a supermarket by my boyfriend's apartment in Oakland). Where does the money go? Maybe real estate? It pains me to write this, but I can't justify paying Mollie's prices anymore. I've been shopping there ever since it opened (post-Delano's) and have always enjoyed the selection, quality, and friendly, efficient service. But recently I discovered that a head of lettuce that costs $5 at Mollie's is only $1.50 at Trader Joe's. And likewise with any other staple one might care to name - bread, milk, eggs, etc. I realize I'm lucky to have the mobility to travel an extra 10 minutes to Stonestown (or Laurel Heights or SOMA) for groceries, and that not everyone has that as an option. I also understand that the Castro is a high-rent neighborhood, and Mollie's prices reflect that. Mollie Stone's is always my first choice of neighborhood grocery stores. This place is run well and the staff is always courteous and friendly. If there is ever a line, they immediately open other registers so you rarely ever wait in line. Although its a small place and a little pricey on some items, they have a great selection of speciality items, cheeses and bakery items and fresh fruit. Also the parking garage is a life saver as this is a busy location in the Castro. read more

I love this grocery store for many reasons, but one of which that I would like to highlight today is that they allow me to bring my dog inside without issue. I am often out for a walk in my neighborhood, and realize that I need something quickly from the store. The idea of going all the way home just to drop off my dog and then coming all the way back to the store for one or two items seems completely unnecessary, and I'm glad that they have made an informed decision to accommodate people in my situation. Mollie Stone's is a gourmet grocery store. This is the landmark Mollie Stone's in the Castro. You can drive by it and you can visit. I don't go to Mollie Stone's that much in San Francisco because it's nice, but it's overpriced. It's much like Whole Foods, but it's like a family grocery store or community store...like Andronico's. It offers wonderful grocery aisles to look around at. It's really just too expensive and too many grocery stores like this...including WHOLE Choods. So, we were hanging out before a group walk and decided to get some treats. I saw the jello shots for sale. It came in a pack of 8 and was $10. I asked buddy to get them for me for the group and he nicely did. I thought it was one of the greatest things I have gotten from a grocery store to share. Shotty's jello shots for the party people. Was in this store yesterday and counted FOUR dogs (not service animals, but unmarked house pets out for a walk) inside the store. As I walked in, a man with two large poodles was securing his dogs to a pole outside the store, but once he saw a woman just casually walk her dog into the store with her, he also brought his dogs inside as well. When I told him animals in a food store was a public health violation, he was aghast that I would even say such a thing to him. Too bad. I'm tired of stepping over house pets laying across the aisles in grocery stores. People ("babies") who can't handle leaving their homes to shop without their pacifier pets should just use a delivery service. MOLLIE STONE'S STORE MANAGERS: State and federal laws are very clear on this subject. Animals are not permitted inside establishments that sell or serve food. I went in with mask and got the few things needed and waited in line for 5 minutes flagged up to the register and put my stuff down. as they went through the items, he proceeded to ring me up and asked for my card to pay. I take care of others and shop for them as i am not sick and worked health care. So i handed him a 20 dollar bill and he proceeded to send me to another register behind others. As to the service shoddy in the store and i had to leave knowing some one 80 years old is not eating to night because of that. Dangers there, people will not follow the arrows on the floor, I wear a long sleeve jacket and many will run into you there, so make sure to disinfect your clothing when you get home. Mollie Stone's is attractive but Incredibly expensive. This shopping market out-does the likes of bloody Whole Foods, Real Food Company, and Harvest Urban Market. The location is quite conveniently in the Castro & there are a few other branches in the city I believe. Its nice to pop in when bloody desperate for somethink to drink or a sandwich or to kill a bit of time browsing but I wouldnt pay the gay man's dollar equivalency that this shopping market charges! 3 things I bloody well don't like about Mollie Stones: 1. Two weeks ago the cashier told me they had been very busy during the day/evening and couldn't keep the fresh produce area tidy and ...made a VERY inappropriate comment to me.
