I was shocked at the slim pickings of flowers around 4 pm. Empty buckets lined the shelves, so I was left with gathering one of everything (expect I doubled up on irises and eryngium because they're one of my favorites). Apparently they only sell the pin cushion flowers in floral arrangements, so I had to skip those dinosaur-like blooms. I was shopping at the Trader Joe's in San Luis Obispo. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Some good dance music was playing over their loudspeakers, so I was moving to the rhythm just a little bit.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was interrupted by a Trader Joe's staffer who turned out to be a real killjoy! She told me there was no dancing allowed in the store. This was at 11:30 this morning. When I confronted her about it, she said she was only kidding and that she danced in the store all the time. So why was it okay for her to kill my joy, my serenity, over something she does in the store all the time? I let her know that I didn't appreciate her little "joke" and that it was NOT cool to treat any of her clients this way. This would not be the first time I had to decide whether or not to continue to bring my business to this Trader Joe's or any other. After all, I'm not obliged to spend money at TJ's. The staff at the San Luis Obispo store should ask themselves whether a stupid "joke" is worth driving away a customer or not. You can't go wrong with Trader Joe's! This is where I get a majority of my produce, and they have a ton of awesome frozen meals for when you don't feel like cooking. I always make sure I have a frozen pizza from TJ's in my fridge at home - it's a great "backup" meal to have. Everyone that works here is super friendly and is willing to go out of their way to help you. They definitely work as a cohesive team. Trader Joe's is also a great place to get flowers. They have a huge assortment and the price point is unbeatable. You can get a large bouquet of flowers for $9.99! You can get a similar bouquet at a florist for easily double and sometimes triple the cost If you are not already incorporating TJ's as a regular part of your grocery store routine, you are definitely missing out! read more

My favorite grocery shop in San Luis Obispo! It has pre-made items to make life easier, it has fresh and organic produce, it has seasonal items to make things fun during certain holidays, a fun beer and wine selection, yummy snacks that can be pretty healthy, and awesome cards for different occasions! I typically made salads for lunch and all my ingredients are from Trader Joe's, and even my dinners are normally made my Trader Joe's items. The cards are only 99 cents, I've gotten birthday, thank you, congratulatory, just because and holiday cards- they change up their designs all the time too! Trader Joe's' is a piece of gourmet, worldly, organic, yummy eats and drinks. From fresh produce, to deli section, meats, breads, grains, dairy products, frozen foods & treats, wines/beers, flowers and whimsical cards you will find a lot of what you need; and sometimes you'll find items you must try and then you become a fan. The prices on a lot of items is much less compared to other similar stores that are bigger in scale. Customer service is always good. You can ask any worker for help and you will get it. I truly think some workers are wine enthusiasts. Many of time a wine or port is described to me and highly recommended. I've never been disappointed. My fav finds, among many, is the pkg. chicken that is seasoned/brined with lemon & rosemary. It is DELISH! All you have to do is follow cooking directions on pkg. and it comes out perfect. You can add some Trader Joe's Himalayan Wild Rice, Trader Joe's frozen Spring Veggie mix, & pair it with a nice bottle recommended white wine and you have a healthy & delicious meal. Have not been to this one in quite a while. Mainly since it is in slo and second because it is always packed. Especially from the college students. Hard to walk through aisles, get a sample, etc. The one in Templeton is usually a lot easier but both have their busy times and slow times. Store was pretty clean and organized, I did find quite a few broken eggs so look out for that. But that happens everywhere you go. Cashier was super nice and bagged all our groceries. Parking lot is huge so pretty easy to find a spot. read more

Awww yes, a Trader Joe's right next to a Food 4 Less...my life is complete! This location has incredibly nice staff and really elaborate food samples (I've had a chicken taquito with salsa and guac, mushroom risotto and greens, and a mini thanksgiving plate with 5 things on it). That matters a lot to me. A lot. I come here for my 'staples': Beer, wine, frozen chicken burgers and tomato-red pepper soup. They've got an excellent wine selection, and I'm able to find grapes and blends that Food 4 Less doesn't carry (I'm practically a connoisseur). TJ's is also great for meals on the go, self-stable grains, and meat that won't kill you. The prices are right, the food is healthy and fresh, and those samples aren't going to eat themselves. read more

Once Trader Joe's made it to San Luis Obispo, we stopped meeting people we knew in the Santa Barbara store. We used to make runs to Ventura or Santa Barbara, filling the trunk of our old 68 Fleetwood with wine, nuts, and cheese. Stocked to the brim with mustard, olive oil, and pasta sauce, we would head north with a sigh of relief, popping coffee candies all the way. It's definately more convenient to have our very own store in town, but it's a hoppin' place. I usually shop at 8am on Sunday, and stock up on everything from dried mangos and wasabi peas to beets and salads. I also like their juices and salad dressings, which accompany the gourmet lettuce and produce selection. I love munching on the samples as I cruise the aisles, and I always study the new products on the way in the store. It's fun to create a Trader Joe's spread for a cocktail party, and I always pick up some Baklava for desert. Prices are great, and their wine selection is decent and modestly priced. Their French bread is a tad cakey for me, but my new favorite is the Fruit and nut loaf. Try it with smoked cheese, and enjoy a treat! read more

I don't know what it is with Trader Joe's, but any fresh produce molds in 2-3 days which is not only a waste of money, but also a waste of food as well. I bought the French baguettes, they get moldy in 2 days. Some potatoes 3 days. Tangerines is the same, and so are the avocados. I was so glad to see a Trader Joe's here. I was in the area for a week and needed to stock up on healthy snacks and that is hard when you are on a casein and gluten free diet. Trader Joe's has a ton of great healthy options. Got some sunflower seeds, dried fruit, RX Bars and some fresh fruit. Though in many ways this store it so good (everyone working there is excellent, kind, and so helpful) the continued use of so much plastic is incredibly disturbing and shows a complete lack of understanding about what is needed right now for a sustainable community and world. I couldn't buy grapes and other produce because of the huge one time use plastic container it came in. So sad that the store doesn't see that in so many ways they are loosing sales and targeting the values of people that also care about nature, the health of other people, and the planet - and trying to sell plastic to them. I just love this store. Good prices, unique finds, and good portions. It's my go to grocery store!! My only complaint, the pushy green peace people out front! It's like every week I'll get caught by one of them, and they grab my bags and shove their clipboard in my hands. Make me feel bad for not giving them my credit card, "you don't care about animals?" If you say you don't wanna sign up. The only way to sign up is to give them your credit card number right there on their clipboard or to call 'someone' and give it over the phone. That's it. Drive an extra hour to avoid Trader Joe's in San Luis- any Trader Joe's is better than that one Trader Joe's iS known to be considerate of customers but this seems like a toxic knock off Trader Joe's which has nothing in common with dozens I've been to except food - they don't have signs warning customers that the cashier is closed even though workers are loading groceries - a manager came out of nowhere while I was standing in line for over 5 minutes )no lines had more than one person ) while several customers after me checked out without incident. So the manager told the person in adjacent line to check out in my line- the customer explainer that he was way after me- the manager said that I was waiting in a closed line and didn't deserve to be checked out / he said it didn't matter I was there first the cashier and manager defended their point of view - yet couldn't explain the reason for not having signs where to stand and who was closed- the cashier sarcastically apologized - the manager kept defending his punitive actions against me for not knowing the line was closed Then they implied that had to behave that way because of covid - that they were doing what had to be done - I can't follow the logic - first come first serve seems irrelevant to covid - it's just fairness read more
