So, I'm in my mid-40s and had never been to Trader Joe's before last fall, which my Boyfriend thought was hilarious - so a few months ago we stopped in Burlington just so I could check it out. We came back again today as well. I regret not going sooner! So much to see. LOVE "Everything but the bagel" and also the mushroom umami spice thingy. Amazing cheese selection. I am giving them five stars without question. First off, Greg and Craig who are two of the Captains, excel in the customer service department. Without fail, they seek to resolve any issues and do so with sincerity. Sure, the store is busy and I think busier when UVM is in session, but their associates always try to restock the shelves and are helpful at the same time. Their meat selection is top shelf and their prices, on literally everything, are some of the best around. Trader Joe's has a devoted customer base and while I would not count myself as an unwavering supporter of all things Trader Joe's, I can appreciate the store and the niche it has created for itself within a very competitive business segment. Trader Joe's has certainly grown from its modest beginnings back in 1967 when Joe Coulombe opened the first Trader Joe's in Pasadena, California. There are over five hundred Trader Joe's across the country now. Trader Joe's was bought by Theo Albrecht in 1979 and the German entrepreneur ran it until he passed away in 2010. Ownership than passed to his heirs. It is interesting to note that the Albrecht family also owns the supermarket chain Aldi, though both are run independently of each other. Trader Joe's is a bit smaller than your average supermarket. A typical supermarket may carry about 50,000 items, where Trader Joe's stocks about 4,000 and a huge percentage of those items bear one of the company's own brand names. They put an emphasis on environmentally friendly items and offer some items at very good prices, especially when considering the quality of the items. A lot of people talk about the Trader Joe's wine which they affectionately call "Two Buck Chuck," nicknamed because of its price point. This particular location is inviting and the staff was their usual friendly and professional. While Burlington, Vermont might not inspire thoughts of the South Seas motif that Trader Joe's aspires to, the store can definitely put you in a pleasant enough moid. I started going to Trader Joe's in my home of Orlando, Florida because I could get Feltman's hot dogs there, which is a Brooklyn-based hot dog company. While there, I was impressed with some of the items and can truly appreciate what Trader Joe's can offer. Some things are not priced right, so I get them elsewhere. But there are certain items that Trader Joe's can offer that you might not be able to find elsewhere and if you can, the price might be better at Trader Joe's. I love Trader Joe's but admit it's an acquired taste. You have to figure out what you like in their products and that means trial and error. You're not going to love everything but I found a core group of things they have that are so much cheaper and some things which are quite exceptional, like mahi burgers, some of the breads, and frozen Indian meals and bread. I get a lot of staples here for so much less that it's worth the trip every couple of weeks to stock up. The help is actually helpful, walking me to what I ask about. It's not fancy, slightly funky but usually acceptably clean. read more

It's like they make the shopping experience as annoying as possible. As a young person, I get wanting to have a fun atmosphere to work and stuff, but every time I go in they have the worst music absolutely BLASTING, especially at night. It's so over stimulating. I would buy more and spend more time if the environment wasn't so loud, it makes me just want to get out of there. Makes me grateful for places like Costco that have no music. They're constantly moving stuff around so you can't find the things you like. They run out of half the items by the evenings. Trader Joe is amazing! They sell novelty snack items, and pre-marinated meats. Fresh produce and fruits. This location is particularly good thanks to great wine and beer selection INSIDE the store. That's right. Vermont allows retailers to sell both beer and wine in the same vicinity as groceries. Super convenient, right! I was sad that I didn't live in Burlington. I really wanted to try all the different wines and their reserve selection. Looked delicious and so many great deals! I will be back!! read more

THIS IS THE LAST TIME WE WILL SHOP HERE! I had been coming here every week at around 8pm and spending hundred$ filling my house with their products. They are convenient, safe, and inexpensive. The Staff stocking the shelves and at check out was always courteous and helpful telling me where things were or checking on inventory. The MANAGERS were not as helpful or courteous, never called when my items came in or were willing to help in the past. and After Today's experience . . .and from hearing about the employee in NY who lost his job for writing the CEO to ask for PPE and then being fired and rehired...and the persons previous review that said they do not enforce the mask mandate. We are not giving our money to Trader Joes any more. This location and maybe whole company does not care about its Staff or Customers or their SAFETY. Tonight while doing our weekly 7pm shop, we saw a woman walking around with out any mask. I asked an employee, could they tell them to put on a mask or leave the store? The employee said they were not allowed to do that. I said could I tell the woman my self or should I ask a manager first. They say "I would LOVE LOVE LOVE for some one to talk to her or management but I can not lose my job, I am sorry" I was baffled an went to the managers desk where two MANAGERS were wearing GATORS not mask and told me any one who comes in and has a medical exemption is allowed to be in the store mask free. I asked what constitutes an exemption because My family member with a breathing condition was not given similar exemptions as any other store or the TJ in NY or FLORIDA around April 2020. So We PUT A MASK ON THEM WHILE IN THE STORE OR THEY STAYED HOME WHERE THEY WERE SAFE AND KEPT OTHERS SAFE AS WELL. One of the managers behind the counter puller their gators higher over their noses (Because it was lose and falling) and told me they are not required to say or do anything to someone with a medical exemption. I asked if they even asked if she could put a mask on when the lady came in? So they might have a way to know about her exemption???? The manager on the Right said No but with a chuckled like heh NO. A Juvenile response. That was enough. I told them I no longer felt safe shopping there. I politely asked if some one could put all the food back from my cart? They said yes and I told them I would no longer be shopping at this Trader Joes. They both then laughed at me as I left. The whole experience felt sad and upsetting. I have shopped many TJ in in the US but this is the first location that made me realize they can 'write off' an item for a customer for customer satisfaction. i had no idea that TJ empowers their employees to just give items to customers for specific reasons. I have had 2 situations where the cashier was able to give me items for free to keep from making it a hassle for everyone. I am amazed and delighted with a company that empowers their employees to keep customers happy at their discretion. TJ has given me ANOTHER reason to love them and their employees at the S. I have never ever been inside a trader joes before. So to say I was excited is mild- I was ecstatic. Upon walking in you find that the there are very few isles and get ready-they're diagonal! It was definitely an interesting set up and I enjoyed it. I walked down each as every isle and looked at everything. There are so many unique and different things-I lived it. Over all nice super market but small and over priced, this type of market is for people who only want organic items and will pay for it no matter the cost. Walked past several employees and none said hi or offered assistance..costumer service is poor but the design is cool and the aisle are horizontal. This TJs has items that I was not able to find in my neighborhood including the horseradish chips (seasonal). I loved how they paid attention and created entrance and exit safety procedures during Covid. And the carts are constantly being cleaned. Staff was friendly and pleasant as always. read more

I have been to many other locations in New York, California, etc. I have to say that the staff at this location is the least friendly of all. :( Some employees are nice and some others not at all. I am so used to outstanding service at Trader Joe's usually. Also, they are a few products that I love buying at Trader Joe's that are not available here. For example, south african smoke seasoning blend, etc. Smaller store, less choices I get. Overall, I still like coming here but it doesn't feel like the real thing. read more

This is actually one of the most peaceful Trader Joe's locations I have ever been to. Normally the aisles are packed and people are everywhere. The Dorset Street location is well laid out with plenty of space. I was upset that they didn't have the signature Trader Joe's Vermont bags like they do for other states and cities. My boyfriend and I were visiting Burlington for the weekend and staying at a nearby hotel. We decided to stop at Trader Joe's and get some food for our hotel room. It was a Thursday evening, the store was packed and the shelves empty. Other customers were clueless, in the way and had no manners. Staff appeared to be stocking shelves but many of them were just standing around talking to each other. I walked past an employee carrying a box, and we both took a step to avoid each other but ended up stepping in the wrong direction. I apologized, but he just glared at me and didn't say anything. Right off the bat, the cheapest prices you can get for any food, flower, beer or wine in the area. The store design is well thought out and it is easy to find what ever I need. The staff are always helpful and eager to make conversation with you. However, the food doesn't last long. I end up throwing out about 1/4 of the perishable products I buy from TJ's after 4-5 days of being in the fridge. Just a word to the wise, steer clear from the fish here. Even though it claimed it was 'wild caught', the smell was putrid and the taste even worse. They gave me a full refund though because they have the best customer service. I won't hold it against them though! I've learned that it is best to stick to pantry items, nuts, cheese, root veggies and drinks; then go next door to Healthy Living to get fresh local produce and superb quality meat. read more

It's a typical friendly, bright, well-stocked Trader Joe's! I regularly buy staples like cheese, pasta and pasta sauce, eggs, juice, wine, bread, crackers, yogurt, and chips. Very yummy and interesting deli selections like salads, wraps, and heat-up pasta dishes. It's a great place to get interesting things like hummus, Indian pantry fare, and frozen potstickers. Things generally have a good shelf life and are excellent quality, especially for the price you pay. They offer both conventional and organic produce. There are often snack samples or free coffee at the counter in the far corner. Most things are their in-house brand, so don't expect to find brand-name stuff here. 99% of the TJ brand imitation things I've tried - like boxed mac and cheese, cereal, and salad dressing - are as good as or better than the name brand thing. Unlike TJs I've shopped at before, several employees offered help in finding stuff during our visit today, which was a nice surprise. read more

This is a review for the flower department, specifically Marie... My husband and I got married on 6/25/16 in Williston, and decided from the beginning that we were going to have a limited budget for flowers. We live in Boston, and picked out our bouquets at our local Trader Joe's earlier that spring. We had been in communication with the Vermont store and Marie about wedding weekend logistics. Just before our wedding, we found out that all Trader Joe's were switching from spring to summer bouquets, so we had to do some scrambling to amend our selections. Through it all Marie was incredibly helpful, even emailing pictures of the summer bouquets to our (less competent) Boston-based Trader Joe's. On the day before our wedding I went to the store to pick up the flowers. Marie was incredibly sweet and helpful, even giving us a big complimentary bag of Trader Joe's goodies full of lotions, snacks and drinks for our troubles. We cannot recommend this Trader Joe's, particularly Marie, enough! She was so helpful even when things got a little rocky. Just as an FYI, we only spent $150 on flowers, and they looked incredible! read more

This is the closest Trader Joe's to Montreal (but the same parent company of TJs also owns Aldi and there is an Aldi in Plattsburgh). Every time I'm in Vermont and driving back home I always stop here and across the street at Healthy Living Market and Cafe to load up on all my organic food goodies. TJs is a bit different in that I look at their products almost like LEGO pieces. Not a lot of grocery basics but semi-prepared meals. Take this, add that and get this meal. Their frozen foodstuffs are the perfect example like their Korean Beef BBQ short ribs. Already cut, marinated and frozen, just thaw and throw it in the BBQ. Also because their roster of products is constantly changing (and there are blogs and websites dedicated to this alone) it's always fun to see what's new and pick up some new products to try at home. My favourites include the Wasabi mayonnaise, spicy corn relish/salsa, Korean BBQ beef short ribs, tiramisu, wild mushroom ravioli, brownie mix, packed lobster meat. read more

I went on the opening day - in fact I was standing in line that morning! The excitement was immense. As we walked through those front doors, we were greeted by all their employees yelling, screaming and cheering. With a lei sitting on my shoulders and a huge grin on my face, I started my new love affair with Trader Joes. I've been twice since it opened, each time buying new and exciting foods that I can barely wait to get home to eat. The first time the winner from the batch of snacks I got was these cinnamon apple snack sticks. My second trip I got these chocolate covered peanut butter pretzels, first bite and I was in love. Also got these shortcakes along with strawberries, that was a great dessert. Can't wait to make another trip! As you can tell, I love snacks. Trader Joes is like a snack paradise for me. There are a few downsides one: the crowds, holy moly it is crazy! Two: don't bring plastic bags as "reusable" bags, you might receive a little bit of attitude like my mom did when she brought in a extra bag from my car thinking the two trader joe's bags I brought might not be enough for what she needed to buy. read more

Gotta love the Joe's - you can get anything from frozen foods to fresh veggies. I love coming here after work, enjoy a nice little pm coffee while I shop for my groceries. If you ever need to try anything, ask the staff members and they will let you try anything. They are usually giving free samples of food where you can try and then decide if you want to buy.
