I like the excellent selection in all departments. The prices are reasonable, and the discount card helps also. I use my own shopping bag, but sometimes I need an extra bag for all my purchases. There are no paper bags to be found at the check out counter. it seems as if they are pushing the use of plastic at a time when public sentiment is for the reduction of plastic bags. It would be a perfect world if everyone brought their own bags, but in the interim, I wish Price Chopper would give the customer the choice of paper. read more

This place sucks. The prices are outrageous. I spend half the money I spend here when I go to Trader Joe's and actually have a good experience at Trader Joe's. The kid that's supposed to be helping at the self checkout is annoying and rude. The way it works that you can't put your groceries into your bag until the very end when your groceries are basically falling off the thing is an absolute joke. I was still getting my groceries out of my cart when they "reminded" me that I had more groceries at the bottom of my cart bc they are alerted to tell you... well maybe wait until I'm done emptying the cart to remind people that instead of making them look like thieves when they are literally still emptying the cart. The self-service checkouts were in full meltdown mode, with only one or two of the 12 not in some phase of "waiting for an attendant." A total fiasco. Then, the price signs in seafood were misaligned, so that items squarely in front of sign X were supposedly governed by the prices on diagonal and adjacent signs Y or Z. This store has been recently renovated and it is simply spectacular! A Starbucks m, giant bakery, a market with a la cart food such as salads (hand made), pizza, and sandwiches. A very nice pharmacy, and a huge selection of anything else you could want in a grocery store. The beer and wine selection is outstanding! I was very impressed with this store, we will go back! This grocery store was very nice. I like the fact that a Starbucks is inside and that you can have a coffee while you shop. The ready to eat items are priced a little higher though than some other grocery stores in town. They have a nice organic section and many options that are hard to find. Being new to the area (coming from S.E. Ohio), I would compare it to a Kroger. The prices were reasonable, the the overall variety of brands were lacking. However, it gained the fourth star because of its international food selection which was GREAT! If you bring your own bags then they'll take $.06 off for each one from your total. Also, if it's your first time and you done have a Price Chopper card tell the cashier and s/he will use a generic store one to give you the discounts. Go to the customer's service counter and with your driver's license you can get your discount card and it will also pre-authorize you to cash checks. Everyone there was very friendly and helpful. Price Chopper is good for cheap food. I often find myself here when I need anything that I do not require fresh. I however, never think of PChops for fresh veggies or fruit- I find them often lacking flavor and loosing life quickly. This is just my opinion however- there are lots of people who are happy to do their full grocery shopping here. I never bother to write reviews, even if the experience is bad. I wish I could give them zero stars. My sister from NY wanted to send the "premium candy gift basket" to my employer for supporting me while I have cancer. She placed the order around around 10 am and by 4 it hadn't arrived. My sister called again and was told there was a staffing issue and it would be delivered today and they would absolutely put extra things in it because of the inconvenience. At noon today- still nothing. Mind you, this store is about 3 minutes away from where it was to be delivered. I called this time and was told by Jackie that she "didn't even know what I was talking about". I had my sister call again (third time now). She was told the delivery person would be there at 1pm and it would be delivered right away and the woman said she told Jackie it better be a kick ass basket. So even though he supposedly was going to deliver it at 1 and the place is 3 minutes away, it didn't get there until 2:17 pm. I was told the delivery guy "acted like a dick". I have included the pics of the "premium" candy basket. Skittles and m&m, and starburts are no one's idea of "premium" candy brands. Even the picture of the basket on the website at least has some Ghiradelli chocolates. I'm sad that my poor sister paid $92 for 11 pieces of drugstore candy. The variety of produce at this Price chopper is what sets it apart from other grocery stores in the area. (e.g. daikon and baby cauliflower). Their fresh seafood is mostly meh, tho you can usually find at least a couple items that look good. The deli, cafe, and hot/cold bar inside here have been sub par. (Usually very long waits for service and quality has been low) Self-checkout here hasn't worked as well as other chains, and seems to gradually be getting better. read more

This store recently underwent a remodel, and while it looks much nicer now, there are some new issues that have arisen as a result. Some good things: the produce section is really nice with a good selection, although the layout can be a little confusing. (This is going to be a theme as you make your way through the store.) The deli is much expanded, although with some omissions that I just find strange... last time I went, even after visiting all four (!) counters in the deli area, I couldn't find any fresh chicken salad to save my damn life. This store used to have pretty good chicken salad, so... I mean, okay, but I miss it. Other weird things I've noticed over half a dozen or so visits: no single cookies in the bakery racks up front, they just don't sell them. Pasta and pasta sauce are on two separate aisles... that honestly feels like it contravenes universal supermarket organizational law. Oil and vinegar?Practically in opposite corners. None of these things individually make it a bad store per se, but when you put enough of these things together, it makes it all unnecessarily confusing, and I've left without finding pretty routine items more than once. In fact, more often, I think, than at any other local store. The service is fine, about what you'd expect at any supermarket. They do have a somewhat better selection of "fancy" items than most local supermarkets. The ethnic foods are as disappointing as they typically are at Vermont grocery stores, but what can you do? Vermonters just don't care much for the unfamiliar, or for flavor in general. So, nice-looking, but can be confusing and a little frustrating, has some gaps in selection. read more

Only self checkout was available and I had 58 items in my cart. No manager in sight and no one at customer service desk. The staff does not wipe down the touch screens in self checkout between customers. If your elderly relatives shop at this time, please warn them. I will not be back to this store. read more

This is the worst grocery store on earth. Their bakery is a lie - they have cannolis in the display but they are literally always out of cannoli filling. Um hello, you are a grocery store???? You can solve this problem SO easily. Literally so annoying. Their wine selection pales in comparison to Shaw's right across the street. It is 2018, you need to have ONE Vino Verde. The layout is so confusing, I cannot fathom who decided to design this store this way. Not to mention -- they did not have the fall seasonal Pillsbury sugar cookies which is absurd because it is LATE into the fall season, those should have been out on September first. This got to be the very worst supermarket in New England. Customer service is non-existent. Every time I go in and think it can't possibly getting any worse, it actually does. The latest: I had a coupon for a dollar off and had it scanned at the register by the attendant. I went through self-checkout and told the attendant that the amount on my coupon, which was on a store item, had not been taken off the amount. Reply: "it takes off Advantage Edge discount automatically" Me: "I gave you the coupon, this is not an Advantage Edge discount" Reply: "Huh?" That's IT. I am officially done with this store. The customer service is just TOO horrendous to feel good continuing to support them. Here was the latest saga from just last night.... I was in line and a gentleman was ahead of me with a bottle of wine and a couple other items. The evening supervisor (didn't catch her name) came up to approve the wine sale and noticed that somehow his bottle had ended up with one of those yellow aisle stickers on it stating a sale. She started BERATING him and telling him that he mustn't do that and now she'd have to try to figure out where the tag belonged (LIKE a grown man has time to do something as SILLY as that). The man pipes up, justifiably angry and annoyed, and says that he has NO idea how it happened and it must have happened on accident. The supervisor starts back-peddling and apologizes profusely but the damage has already been done. He pays and leaves, obviously annoyed. The girl working the register then turns to the bagger and says "Well... SOMEBODY was in a bad mood tonight!". I could hardly believe it... they accused someone of something he didn't do, he was justifiably annoyed and they turn it around like HE did something wrong???! Wow... I'd say this was an isolated incident but I've experienced countless other occasions where the cashier was lazy (not bothering to bag at all when there were tons of groceries) or just plain inappropriate (complaining about their job). Unless something changes drastically, I'm afraid I just can't bring myself to spend my money at this store and will go elsewhere. read more

Hygiene Concerns. I'll tell you one grocery store that I won't be going to anymore, Price Chopper. The Shelburne Road location to be exact. This morning, July 1, I was in the coffee bar have a cup of French Roast and a couple of jelly donuts. A couple with their shopping cart comes up and I notice a little white dog in the baby seat. First the man goes into the bathroom and then when he came out the woman went in to the bathroom. All the while they are playing with their little dog. It was not a service dog as it did not have a working harness or an ID vest on. There is nothing wrong with dogs per se but they don't belong in a food store nor do they belong where people are eating in an in-store restaurant. I located a store manager and told him of the offending pooch and made sure to tell him it was not a service animal. Well the manager, a skinny guy with reddish hair and a beard, said he was aware of it and that they didn't enforce the rules. The manager then went out for a smoke. WTF? Well I'm one guy that thinks hygiene and food safety are important elements to any culinary experience. I would advise grocery shoppers not to eat in the Price Chopper coffee bar and keep away from the store entirely if you value avoiding food borne illnesses. read more

I usually stop in here when I'm in a hurry on my lunch break and don't have time to stop somewhere local. I like the fact that their produce section has expanded dramatically as well as their options for people like me.... always rushing. They have a great fresh soup selection and their sushi section is extremely appealing. I'm a big fan of their sushi... it's legit and delicious. The only thing I will complain about are their prices. Even with their Advantage card, I can still save more $ at Hannaford. However, the gas perks attached to the Advantage card really help me since I have a gas-guzzling car. read more

With Shaws across the road and Hannaford's just south on 7, I'd avoid this location at all costs. The meat department is pretty good (hence, the GENEROUS 2 star rating), and if you want steaks it's definitely a cut above the other stores in the area if you go to the counter. Otherwise, it feels like an institution here. They've done nothing to make shopping pleasant. The store is chaotic in it's organization, and aisles are incredibly mislabeled (especially in the frozen food section). The parking lot is ALWAYS chaotic, and I can't think of a time where I haven't had someone waiting impatiently for my spot when I'm going to leave (Sorry the defrosters in my car take a while to heat up. I'll just get on buying a new car so I can get out of the parking lot faster? I think not..) and people are NEVER paying attention walking there. I'm a patient driver for the most part, but my patience does wear thin when I see people walking in the middle of the road or driveway, whatever you want to call it. Just walk off to the side and let cars pass! It doesn't seem like that hard of a concept. The store isn't always the cleanest either, for those curious. I'm not talking about mud being tracked through, I'm talking spilled food that sits for quite some time and just isn't cleaned up. Cashiers are your typical high schoolers and UVM students who are just here to make a buck. They don't care. No "hello" or "how are you". They're also more preoccupied with chatting with their friends than taking care of you. Mischarges are common as a result, especially when buying produce. My final criticism? The prices are on par or even higher than Hannafords and Shaws... I have never once found significant savings by going to this location, and I only come here if there's some special thing that I need or for steaks when I don't feel like getting down to Shelburne Meat Market. read more
