I thought about rating this 5 stars and starting my review with "**This should actually be 2 stars** but it's not fair to lose a great local business because of the attitude and ineptitude of the owners child.'' Then I thought, is that really doing the business any justice or helping in any way? Any diligent consumer and discerning business owner is going to look at the lowest ratings. Nobody looks at the 5 stars to make their final decision. The only way a store can know what their customer base is thinking is if they say what they think on online reviews. It's an amazing tool if used properly. With that said... Ripped off once shame on you, ripped off twice shame on me, ripped off three times and I write a review. If it weren't for Tom's daughter going to lunch I would have been ripped off a third time. This 2 star rating is not only for the intent of swindling me a third time but for treating me like a begger for being forced to haggle. The daughter's 'no budge' attitude to price haggling leads you to believe the prices are coming from her and her lack of product knowledge. Or they're simply hoping their customers don't know the true value of their merchandise and they'll get lucky on some unwitting consumer like myself. Why would I say these things? The last two times I purchased merchandise their I got home and realized I paid above full boxed retail for dirty used items. This time I was prepared.... I'm typically not a haggler. I usually just pay the asking price no questions asked. However, I read up on dealing with pawn/barter shops. Price is always negotiable and everything has a high markup even though it's used and otherwise disgarded by it's previous owner for some reason or another. Everytime I go in there the daughter feeds me painfully obvious 'gold chained, hairy chested used car salesmen' chicanery. Unfortunately the first two times I fell for it. Not this time. I went in with the goal of trading two pairs of speakers for one of theirs. I pointed out that both of my pairs were brand new in box and they were worth $20 each. The pair I was wanting to aquire was 11 years old and marked at $35 but sold used online no higher than $19.99. Sounds like a no-brainer. Amazingly she comes up with some smoke screen of stuttered lies to describe how I wasn't getting it unless I gave her $10.00 cash. She actually made me drive down the road to get the $10. Well I knew Tom was going to eat his lunch first and then she was going to eat hers. So I left and took just enough time so that when when I got back she was at lunch. Tom let me have them for $5. Still, you have to wonder... Why was she so adamant on that $10? Was it in the best interest of retaining current business and gaining future business. Would I be likely to walk away satisfied if I didn't get even a $5 break? Regardless, If she didn't go to lunch this would be a very different review. 2 stars for friendliness 1 star for ease of transaction 2 stars for product knowledge 3 stars for customer retention Bottom line, most everything is over priced and in the same condition left by previous owner. The speakers needed a thorough cleaning and looked 11 years old. I was told three lies about the product in efforts to make the sale. If you're dealing with Tom you're more likely to leave not feeling like you just got mugged and spat on. Know the value of.what you're buying and what you're selling. There are both good deals and bad deals in this store. It is definitely a business Roseburg can't afford to lose. read more

This store is by far the most superior store in the Roseburg area. In fact, when trying to compare other establishments like Tom's, I find that I have an extremely difficult time in doing so. This store falls under no genre. From smoking accessories to automobile parts, Tom continues to strive to be the most universal store in the Douglas county area. I have to make a confession. When writing this review, I find myself being incredibly bias toward this store simply because of how welcome Tom and his family make me feel when visiting. No matter how preoccupied the staff is they are always willing to assist me and other customers to their best abilities(and with a smile on their face which is the most important). They strive to make your shopping experience a pleasurable one and not just one out of necessity. The prices are outstanding and given the fact that they are a family ran business they are always able to give you the best deal possible. Tom and his family are the type of people who would give their shirts off their backs in order to help another out. And to the hacky sack guy- I would definitely classify your review as an anomaly. It's a hacky sack bud. If Tom thought that it was defective for one second before he sold it to you he would of given you two sacks just for the inconvenience of having to come back. If anyone else knows what I'm talking about and wants to theorize with me about how Tom would of handled this situation in regards to this hacky sack dilemma please leave a review and comment on it. WARNING* I highly recommend taking at least 20$ cash with you because 1) They don't except credit or debit cards, and 2) It's extremely difficult to leave this store without spending at least 20$ there. So, my advice is to stop kidding yourself and to except the fact that you're going to be spending at the minimum an Andrew Jackson here. LOL!!! Also, vets and active duty military receive a discount. This guy... I can't describe myself as a regular patron. What I can say to you is I have been his ups delivery man/ & friend for over 10 years. As different as we are I appreciate Tom like no other. Over the years I have spent time in his shop and seen many things. If he losses money he wanted to & honestly that rarely happens, but the difference is when he does he probably planned on it. You see Tom just seems to have that sixth sense about people & he has a huge heart. You will always get a fair shake with him. Very few people have left his business (over the years I have spent time talking to him on breaks or just saying hi) feeling like it wasn't a pleasant experience. It's not a cold feeling being in his shop. He has a business to run yes, but he also makes time for everyone (and believe me that's not a easy task) and if someone was to say he didn't give them a fair shake, or wasn't up front about anything I would say spend a couple of moments in his shop and just watch the guy in action. This shop literally has all your needs including entertainment! Its the only place I've ever been where the vendors will throw glass on the ground just to prove they're point and honestly I was glad for the experience because it wasn't only entertaining but funny as hell and reassuring! His prices are fair and it's a bit of a family experience and not to mention the longboards this shop has got longboards off the wall and for good prices. I'll keep coming back and am proud that a little town like Roseburg has this Diamond of a trading post! One in a million Tom and Family thank you all for what you do! I looked up Tom's via Google to find the number because though I go there often - I don't know the number.. This is when I saw the current rating & thought I'd assist.. I've been dealing with Tom since I was in high school, way back when he'd opened, & the guy's always done me right, whether I'm buying OR selling.. Now he's got his kin working there & they're straight with it as well.. People upset because he may refuse to refund an inexpensive item he's middle-manning the sale of, after they've had their way with it, doesn't really make any sense to me imo.. I recommend his place to my people all the time, & wouldn't do so if I had any doubts. read more

My husband and I have been going to Tom's shop for about 3 years now. Can't wait till the new, better, bigger store opens! So much stuff, but QUALITY items!! Every time I go in to look for something, I find it or find something even better. I'm a buyer, not a seller, but I've seen some of the deals go down and the people who come in to sell always get a GREAT price. His longboard selection is beautiful! His employees are great too. I had a problem with an item I purchased for my son. Normally he doesn't do returns and even if he does it's store credit. Due to my specific situation once I explained why I really did want and need that particular item I had purchased, he did make an exception in my case. I understand he has to protect himself and is a business but I really do need what I had bought so I am extremely grateful and appreciative for him working with me on that one! I absolutely LOVE this place!!!! I stop in every chance I get. They have AMAZING staff, amazing deals, and a lot of really cool things you wouldn't normally think about. Best customer service I've EVER had and I've never left without a smile on my face from glass, to boards, to gages and even more it's crazy everything that would normally shatter my wallet anywhere else or online I can get for normally less then 20 bucks there.
