I don't understand Yelp's algorithms - I can see that Tradewinds has a handful of "not recommended" reviews - no idea why! This little store is a gem; we came here after breakfast in the area. While the owner was gone due to a medical issue, her sweet and very chill daughter was manning the storefront. Tradewinds is full of Hawaiian and Polynesian-themed souvenirs and tchotchkes, all at reasonable prices, and the girl working there was so knowledgeable and helpful - friendly, personable, and chatty. Hard to find that even in Southern California, especially with a curious toddler. Little sweet puppy of hers wandering around the store also made my daughter's day. Got a small handful of jewelry for a great price. They have a big range of less expensive to 14kt gold jewelry; much of it is made on the islands, and a good deal of it is handcrafted too. Would highly recommend if you're looking to support a local souvenir store rather than plopping money down at big box chain stores. read more

I wandered in after breakfast at Kalaheo Cafe. I chatted with the owner and wandered around looking at the jewelry, cute trinkets, and silly Kauai chicken humor. Some items are exclusive to the store, so you're not going to find them elsewhere. It's a local store, not a big chain, but many of their prices were comparable. If you want to Shop Small, this is a great place! Go to Tradewinds Kauai! Buy stuff! Support small businesses! ... and eat at Kalaheo Cafe or Brick Oven Pizza. They're both good. Spent about $400 dollars there on Thursday May 16 2024. Could have spent more (1k), but we asked for a discount (minimal) and the owner told us NO. Too bad for the owner. I was looking at a necklace and bracelet - total amount was over 1,000 dollars. Necklace about 640, bracelet about 360. We asked for a two hundred discount, so about 20%. Owner said no. Went to another place in Hanapepe, got a necklace with one more Tahitian pearl on it than the one she was selling, price was $250. And better quality and larger Tahitian pearls. Be careful what you buy at this store. I have a pic of her necklace, and the one I actually bought for 400 dollars less. We found this shop while dining next door and on our way up to Waimea Canyon. Honestly, Marie was the sweetest and greeted us and made us feel incredibly WELCOMED not only to the shop, but to the island. So many great finds, GREAT QUALITY, ranging from casual to higher end gifts. I really liked the fact that they carry so many different sized bracelets and rings! But most of all, Maria was SO KNOWLEDGABLE about every single item in the shop. She really knows each of her suppliers, their background, and how the pieces came to be. I haven't met a more competent and amiable sales associate/manager. She really adds to the lovely environment that Tradewinds offers. Me and my mom spent almost 2 hours shopping and almost forgot to make our way up to the canyon... thank you Marie! Stop in and shop people!! read more

My husband and I found Tradewinds while on vacation in October. We visited the 2 stores in the island. Wonderful and unique gift selections but most of all..excellent and friendly service from Dale, the owner. Come Dec, while planning for Christmas gifts we decided to order more island handmade crafts as Christmas presents. Since it is a rather large order, Dale made the extra effort to reach her supplier to fill our order and shipped it in time before Christmas. The presents were a hit but we couldn't have done it without Dale's service. read more

My son and I had a wonderful morning shopping at Tradewinds. The owner Dale was very friendly. We bought several freshwater pearl necklaces and bracelets, all beautiful and well priced. I especially love my sterling moonstone pendant and matching earrings, with a unique design. I didn't like the original silver chain so Dale swapped out another one that fit perfectly. She also gave me a small cloth to wipe off tarnish when I commented on hers. Thank you Dale for making our first day in Kauai a memorable one. read more
