In 2012, the School District allowed the lease agreement to expire and the Port St. Lucie Parks and Recreation Department assumed maintenance responsibilities for the 28 acre property. After holding meetings with the public the city decided to turn the land into a park. Winterlakes Park opened on January 23, 2021 becoming the largest park in Port St. Lucie. Today Winterlakes Park is a well designed park with many popular recreational amenities for residents and visitors of the Winterlakes neighborhood and the Torino area. During my visit I was impressed by how much this park has to offer. There is a baseball field, covered basketball court, dog park with sections for small and large dogs, a paved exercise walkway with fitness stations, picnic pavilions with tables, pickleball court, shade covered playground, soccer field, softball field, tennis court, sand volleyball court, fishing deck on the lake, and restrooms. All of the facilities in the park are meticulously maintained and the park still looks brand new. As I walked the park on the exercise trail I noticed a summer camp using the playground, pups playing in the dog park, and a large number of people enjoying the shaded basketball court. There is so much to do in this park, there is truly something for everyone to enjoy.

Located at the end of Winterlakes Park, a new community park in northern Port St. Lucie, FL. Lots of parking very close to the dog park areas, so you don't have to wander through the whole community park to find the dog area. Fences are high, and the gate lock is also high, so small children cannot get in and out at will. The parks have seating areas for pet owners, and some are under cover, so that's nice when there's a lot of sunshine. The parks seem well well-maintained and are not crowded, possibly because there isn't a lot of publicity about them yet.

You got to follow the signs all the way around to the back for the big dog park. All three Parks look pretty much identical. They have this exact same agility items and they all have a nice shade structure with four benches underneath it. When we were here the big dog park was closed for renovations. So we had to use when the other ones but again they're all the same and you can park 100-ft from the double-gated entry area .

This park also has free parking, a restroom and picnic pavilion but it is not lifeguarded. Walton Rocks Beach is also an area of archeological importance. It is a nice big Square Dog Park in the middle of a nice big beautiful Park. The entry area also known as the common area is very big and has a picnic table and a water fountain and poop bag dispenser and a trash can and Gates into both the big and the small dog park. The small dog park is just basically one corner of the big dog park. Walking the interior of the fence line is rather simple as it is very flat. There are plenty of old growth trees as well as interesting items like half buried pipes for your dogs to entertain themselves with. There are a few places to sit and there is plenty of shade!

This park has the nice green Lush Florida grass and it does have a very high fence line around the park unfortunately it doesn't have a bar at the bottom and there are some gaping holes in the bottom of the fence line. Also, you have to park and walk quite a distance to the dog park. It is actually a nice walk, so be sure to grab a poop bag from the poop bag dispenser as your dog will probably get busy before the dog park!! The park itself is actually very basic. It has an old Grocery and then some kind of flat growth tree and it does have a water feature and it does have a picnic table and a few places to set and some shakes. But it just does not seem to be as specifically designed to help the handicap for people with Mobility difficulties as most of the other parks in the area. But that doesn't mean your baby won't enjoy it all the same.
