Wellington Green Park is a 10 acre parcel that was given to the city by the developers of the Mall…read moreat Wellington Green for civic purposes. It sits between the Hampton Inn and Lake Lisbet on the west side of the mall. It is one of the few remaining undeveloped parcels of land along Wellington's State Road 7 corridor. Wellington Green Park was left untouched until 2010, when the village drained the land and planted Bermuda grass to for three multipurpose fields. The park was the home of the village's rugby and lacrosse teams until 2021. Today it is the only public park in western Palm Beach County without scheduled programming. Anyone can stop by for open play at any time. On the day I visited children were practicing soccer. There are no lights and the only restrooms are port a potties. The city is contemplating letting this park go in favor of development. Wellington has agreed to sell Wellington Green Park to resolve a 2021 lawsuit with a developer who wants to build 200 luxury apartments on the site. Brefrank Inc. will purchase the park for $11 million and will give 22 acres of wetlands near the mall to the village to protect it from future development. Seven acres will be turned into a wetlands conservation park. Brefrank already owns the Axis apartments west of the mall. A planning council has identified this corridor has having the most potential to be developed into a walkable district with residences, office spaces and commercial areas for shops and restaurants. The park is basically a field with no amenities other than a bench and a few soccer nets. With a name like Green Park I was expecting trees and plants and this park had neither. If the park is developed residents can still use Olympia and Greenbriar parks for open play. Wellington does not currently have a nature park and I think wetlands park would better suit the community than what is basically an open field.

Wellington Rotary Peace Park was created from Dr. Wesley Boughner's desire to find a place in…read moreWellington to place a peace pole in honor of his wife Joan who passed away from cancer in 2005. He found a place for the pole in 2006 and from there the idea of creating a park began to evolve. Boughner is a Wellington Rotary Club member. He envisioned the park as a place people could come to contemplate world peace and understanding other cultures. The peace pole Boughner had created is 8 sides made of aluminum. The words May Peace Prevail on Earth are written in different languages on each side. On September 21, 2006 during the United States International Day of Peace, the peace pole was dedicated. After the dedication it was decided that 18 acres of city owned wetlands at the corner of Royal Fern and Birkdale Drives would make the perfect place for a peace park. Wellington donated $135,000 and the Rotary Club gave $16,000 towards the construction of the park. A boardwalk was added that goes across the wetlands along with an open gazebo. IThe park also has a semicircle of 6 flags. They include the U.S., Florida, Wellington, United Nations, Rotary International, and newly designed Wellington Peace Park flags. There is also a walkway and a plaque dedicated to Joan Boughner. The park was dedicated on September 21, 2008. The park is a lovely memorial to the memory of Joan Boughner. The board walk is the perfect place to enjoy a bit of nature. On the day I visited Blue Jays and Grackles as well as several kinds of butterflies were flying around. Whether you are coming to enjoy nature or contemplate world peace, Dr. Boughner has created a special spot for the people of Wellington.

This full acre playground is located in the Wellington Town Center Promenade. This area includes…read morethe Wellington Community Center, Wellington Amphitheater, and the Patriot Memorial. The last time I was here the playground was closed after being shut down July 2022 for construction activity related to the Town Center Phase 2 project. It resumed regular operating hours in May of 2023. When I visited the recent Lakeside Market I was delighted to find it filled with happy children playing on the unique and inclusive equipment. Scott's Place Barrier-Free Playground was built in 2010 with a donation made by Wellington residents Del and Barbara Williamson in honor of their son Scott Scott had cerebral palsy and sadly passed away at age of six. The playground is barrier free meaning it was designed to meet the needs of both able-bodied and disabled children. There aren't many playgrounds created to be barrier free so this is a very special play space for all of the children of Wellington to enjoy. As part of this project, Wellington held a community build weekend event where more than 300 volunteers assembled all of Scott's Place playground equipment. This fenced in playground is themed to Wellington's horse culture with a large horse statue, play wagon, and a horse spring rider. There are the traditional climbing equipment and swings that you expect to find at any playground but also special equipment like sensory items, a communication board where non verbal children can point at pictures to let people know their needs, and wheelchair ramps. There is also a reading corner, covered pavilion, benches, and restrooms. Parents can appreciate the safety aspects of this play space while the kids can enjoy creative play that encourages imagination and physical movement. Kudos to Wellington for creating this safe, clean, and inclusive environment for children to play and explore.

Scott's Place Park is a fantastic playground for children of all abilities. This is especially helpful for children with communication challenges, promoting inclusion and self-expression. Love that! The park is well-designed with accessible pathways, sensory play areas, and safe equipment suitable for various ages. My kids love it here. We periodically come after school so they can get some of the energy out before going home. Those who know, know! There are also shaded spots for parents to relax and watch their kids play. Overall, Scott's Place is a welcoming, thoughtful space that encourages social interaction and supports children's emotional well-being through play.

Castle like structures, obstacle course, swings and slides. I also love there's only one entrance to the playground, this is a huge plus since I'm usually with at least 3 kids (but 5-7 when we come here). There are shaded areas, water stations and restrooms. They also have pavilions you can use for free during the week or rent on the weekends for birthday parties.

Azure Park is dedicated to Dorothea Johnston who was one of the first residents of the Sugar Pond Manor development where she served on the Civic Association as its first President. She is especially remembered for planting and caring for the trees, plants, and flowers at the entrance to the development and throughout Sugar Pond Manor which added beauty to the neighborhood. In recognition of her contributions to the city, Azure Park was dedicated in Johnston's memory on March 19, 2002. While there are two entrances in the neighborhood to the park, only the entrance by the basketball court has a parking lot. In addition to the basketball court the park has a paved walkway covered picnic pavilion, and a recently updated playground with climbing structure, slide, and swings, I think the nicest feature of the park is all of the trees. It feels like you are in a secret forest in the middle of the neighborhood. The tall trees give shade and are filled with birds and Tillandsia fasiciculata air plants with their dramatic red bloom spikes. It is so pretty and tranquil here. This is the perfect park for play, exercise, a picnic, or just enjoying nature.

We went there yesterday with…read moreour children and the other grandparents to cheer for the girls because they were each performing in the annual talent show. It's a fun event set up in the gym with all the children who are either performing or cheering for their peers. It was well organized and a very positive experience. Some children sang, danced, did acrobatics, or did a puppet show or mimed. What better way is there to build self esteem?
