I have been coming here for 10 years straight and every year it gets better! The attention to detail and how thoroughly involved all the actors are is truly a stunning sight to see! ALL of the actors are volunteers AND the money goes to local charities! *$10 parking per car cash or Venmo Every year the themes focus on "in" movies. This year's 2024 "Coven of the Rotted" included Terrifier, Silent Hill, Silence of the Lambs, Dolls and a Voodoo room among many others! There is always a "twist" on the best classic movies, but they've had themes like Monsters Inc. and Toy Story in the past. The themes are always changing and EVERY year is different. The trail takes about an hour to walk through but the scares start once you walk through the entryway! Characters will interact with you (but not touch) and the display of animatronics is a great way to start the night! There is a midway "stop" area to take photos, grab a snack and break up the groups of people that tend to get bunched together through the trail. This is our favorite CT haunt. We go every year since I moved here in 2003 and we are never disappointed. You get your moneys worth of scares with an hour long walk through. But the scares start before you even enter. While waiting in line the actors will appear out of no where and that's when the fun begins. I don't know how they set up such realistic sceneries and props. The special effects makeup that the actors wear is very realistic and professionally done. I've been twice - once in 2018 and once on opening night of 2024. The best haunted Halloween activity! It really is a long walk through and it's totally mind-blowing amazing how they make every part of this very long walk so elaborate. I remember being impressed the first time I went and was especially so this most recent season. Especially after learning everyone involved is a volunteer and the money goes to charity. Enter if you dare! The Trail of Terror in Wallingford was a fun and frightening experience. The trail is a 60min walk of horror, scares and hauntings. There are scare actors on the trail ready to jump scare and interact with you. The costumes, sets and props were very impressive. Everything had a lot of detail, cool animatronics and effects. There were parts of the trail that allude to horror classics like Friday the Thirteenth, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and It. It's very dark on the trail with uneven terrain so watch your step. Unfortunately, there is a huge lack of accessibility. The Trail of Terror is not for everyone as there is flashing lights and enclosed/tight spaces. I do not recommend the trail for children and caters to an adult crowd. I went with a large group and purchased the VIP Premium Pass for $40 to limit the wait time to get in the trail. You can choose a time slot because they only allow a maximum amount of groups on the trail. They do have you go through metal detectors and check bags. Also, parking is at the Polish National Alliance Park for $10 (cash only). The event is only on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays in the month of October. Dress accordingly since the trail is outside and wear a decent pair of hiking sneakers or boots. The Trail of Terror is put on by a volunteers. Give them a round of an applause, put on a great show! read more

So I finally made it to this place, for the first time ever and it was fabulous! It was so entertaining and there was so much thought and detail put into the trail. We had tickets for 8pm and didn't actually get in until about 9, but we were entertained and mildly frightened throughout waiting in line for that hour to get in. They do a pretty good job of keeping the groups separated so that the people in front of you don't ruin all of the upcoming haunts and surprises for you. The costumes were great, the themes were awesome, and I'd absolutely come back to do this again next year (I could probably be easily persuaded to do it again this year actually, but with a smaller group than our group of 5). Parking was an additional cost of $8 and the trail took almost an hour to get through. There is a midway point where you can take pictures or buy a snack, and there are also hot dogs and cocoa available in line before you enter the trail (during that hour long wait to get in). There were 4-5 port-o-potties at the end of the trail, that I certainly didn't want to use in the dark, but they're there if you're desperate! Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed, unless you're cheap and can't fathom paying for such a thing. LOL Also, there are some inclines, steps and tunnels to crawl through so if you have trouble getting down on your knees to crawl, keep this in mind. Actually, I do recall seeing a way to walk around one of them, so some accommodations can be made, but there are still steps and hills and things to navigate in the dark. It's a good time! read more

Although the Halloween season is drawing to a close, I had to review the Trail of Terror. Awesome. The amount of energy the people have put into this attraction shows. We arrived around 9:10 on a Friday night. Cold but not freezing. Cash to park. Kind of a bummer considering how much the tickets are, but it probably works to cut down the number of cars. People will carpool to avoid paying $8 to park. We did. Then into the dark woods to get in line. Screams in the distance. I'm scared already. Then once in line actors are working the line to preload the scare. The trail itself is the longest haunted experience I've ever seen. There is a break in the middle but I was quite fried by the end. We were in a group of 17, which is kind of excessive, but having a group adds to the fun. We were all screaming. I think the best part by far is that the entire operation funds charitable causes. The Trail of Terror is totally worth it. We will be back next year. BOO!!!!! read more

I went to the opening night of the 2022 season. I would suggest saving your money for the VIP access unless you really don't like to wait. Got there for the 8-9 block and waited a little under an hour to get into the haunt before 10. I went here a few years ago and this trail must've blown up since. The whole trail was filled with people too close to eachother but the actors were still able to produce scares. This is a must visit for any haunted house lover in New England. I bought 8 tickets for trail of terror. Only 6 out of the 8 people went. I went up to the counter where I let this older woman scan my tickets for my group. I mentioned I had 8 but only 6 were with me. She stated that I could use the other 2 tickets next weekend or the following. I would have been fine without knowing this information and would have dealt with the loss of $50 but no, I was told I could use them again. I got excited. So the next weekend, I went with the person who was unable to go due to a family emergency. Spent the money on parking. I also called and emailed to double check but no reply from anyone. This woman at the front who never checked tickets on 10/12 is all of sudden checking tickets 10/19, tells me we have leave. I told her what was said to me and she didn't care. She was rude and kind of tried to embarrass us for even trying to come back with tickets. Didn't even ask why. What if someone was ill on the day they are scheduled for the tickets? Customer service never replies. What if an emergency pops up on that day and they need switch? Customer service doesn't reply. That's the main issue with trail of terror, they don't respond back when there are questions. I have been going every year for the past 4 years and spent hundreds of dollars. They lost a customer who buys 8-10 tickets a year. Also, the day we went on 10/12, half the people who were supposed to scare us weren't there..... it was 10x quieter than 2023. Been wanting to go to a haunted house with my friends for the first time since highschool, was told this was one of the best ones in the state...that is if they even bother to sell you a ticket. Was told through insta, email, and by word of mouth that ticket sales opened at 11am online ONLY for that nights event. So, i go log on at exactly 10:50 and sit there waiting for it to open, and guess what, still said it was sold out even at exactly 11am. this was the same thing for every day for the last 2 weekends of Oct. what a waste of time and a huge disappointment for me and my friends. Was told you can buy tickets there, but why chance driving all the way over there, paying for parking, waiting in the long line in the cold just to get turned away???? they definitely need a better ticket system, or to stop lying about the availability. recommend going to the one in wolcott way easier to get tickets and you can only get them at the door. read more

So I am a professional haunt attraction enthusiast, I've been to haunts ALL over the world and trail of terror did NOT disappoint! Their entry line was organized with lots to look at and monsters to entertain you, food and snacks and looked long but went by fast! The maze itself was long! In a good way! This was by far the best Halloween trail we've ever been on! A lot of thought & effort was put in each scene..different rooms had different things happening to you unexpectedly..what an AWESOME experience! I laughed..I jumped & screamed all the actors did a fantastic job & Christopher Grande is amazing he helped me reschedule my tickets for a different day due to car trouble..my son was visiting from North Carolina & he really enjoyed himself..will definitely go back again!! We LOVE Trail of Terror! The amount of detail is AMAZING, the scenes are obviously lovingly crafted. It feels like you are in another world! The scenes are creative and change every year, you never know what you're going to get. And there are so many of them! It's worth the wait, but be sure to buy a timed ticket. Also, I was that person who lost their cell phone, it fell out of my pocket (ugh I know), but by the time I made it to the end of the trail - one of the trail staff had already turned it! THANK YOU!!! I assumed it was gone forever. The two lovely staff at the concession area had it waiting! We also love how friendly and passionate the people are who run and work ToT! I say this every time but I have to and I deserve to. I've been to more New England attractions than ANYONE and I visit anywhere from 30 to 40 haunts a year. That being said I can say that Trail of Terror is probably the best in New England. The great thing about T.o.T is that it has it's own spirit. They change up the design completely every year (which is incredible in itself) but they still have that "cheap but somehow works better than expensive" New England feel to it (if that makes sense). And it's really non stop terror. Once you are in you are pushing yourself through multiple worlds of Horror. And I'm not sure where they are getting these kids for actors but damn they are doing a good job. The only problem it's popularity. They are VERY good at sending only so many people through every few minutes. Not like these other places that act like you want to go in with the 15 people that have been annoying you to death in line for the past few hours. Or in the off chance you don't get to go with them but they're either too fast behind you or too slow in front of you. There's no perfect solution but T.o.T does a good job regulating it. And part of that is ticket sales. They only sell so many tickets a night. I want to say maybe 80% of tickets are sold online and that's only because they want to have "some" tickets to sell at the gate. Most nights a guy comes out into the road with a sold out sign by 8:30 and of you were the last person to buy a ticket then I hope you like standing. This isn't a "what you guys wanna do tonight" thing. I plan for it months in advance. read more

We purchased tickets online for a timeslot to go, hearing that people wait in line for a long time, and had NO PROBLEM waiting or getting in. A little planning ahead is all you need to have a super time. Parking is great, $5 a car, and the tickets online were $20 each, a good price for such an attraction. The details are phenomenal, the actors were incredible. Yes, a lot of jump out and scares, but seriously, you're going to a HAUNTED TRAIL, people, did you expect actual zombies? The actual walk through is about an hour, and does include some walking up and down a few stairs, ramps, crawling through a crawlspace (if someone in front of you ahem, passes gas, you're screwed, just sayin') going through a slide...they do have pass throughs for some of the things in case you're too big or too scared. There is a midway point for photo ops and a little concession stand to get a snack or a dink. Oh....there's also a concession stand during the wait to get in, which is very reasonably priced. All in all...had a great time and definitely do it again! My advice is to buy the tickets in advance on line.... read more

I love the Trail of Terror, and have gone 3 years in a row. It is so well done, is long enough to make it worth the wait and price, and you can just see how much love these folks put into doing this every year. It is legitimately scary, so definitely not appropriate for young kids, and unfortunately it isn't accessible for people with physical disabilities/mobility issues (bumpy walkways, climbing steps and ladders, pushing through or crawling through tight spaces, etc.). You either have to get there several hours earlier than you think you need to (as in, before dark!) or buy the $20 speedpass to avoid being disappointed. The one year I didn't get a speedpass, we showed up before sunset and waited for around 3 hours, but getting there that early (I think it was like 5:30ish) at least got us a spot in the main part of the line, where they have actors, dance routines (i.e., Thriller!) and all kinds of spooky things to entertain you while you wait. If you get there any later, expect the line to be well out into the parking area where there isnt anything cool going on, or worse, for it to be sold out altogether. I've done the speedpass 2 years in a row now, and it is so worth the $20! You wait less than an hour which is fun anyway because a little wait is good to build anticipation and enjoy the aforementioned spooky waiting-area entertainment. Unfortunately, you now even have to buy the speedpasses a week in advance, before they sell out. It's just getting too popular! They probably need to do an identical Trail of Terror somewhere else in the area just to break up the crowd! :-) read more

We had a great time! We did purchase the speed pass in advance after reading how long some people had to wait in line. There is a reason this attraction sells out! Because it's worth it! Scary, funny, entertaining, and all done by volunteers. The money raised by this attraction is donated to charity and yet the the actors put their best effort into their performance more than some who are in it for money and getting paid. We have attended 3 years in a row and will likely go again. We are more than willing to travel the 80 minutes it takes us to get there. It's worth the trip. read more

Spiders, clowns, chainsaws, scarecrow, ware wolves, with over 20 different scenes, theres something to scare the shit out of everyone. You will walk, crouch and crawl, maybe even piss your pants. Wear comfortable shoes and come prepared for an experience like no other. Gates open at 7 but the line starts forming before 5 so arrive early. I drove over 2 hours from Boston, waited about 2 hours in line, and drove another 2 hours back home but I would do it all again in a heartbeat. The most incredible haunted house ever. Totally worth it. A group of us actually bought tickets for back to back time slots but they still let us just go in together, which was awesome!! As for the Trail, it was phenomenal! The production value was second to none. They have different little scary areas which is really neat so it feels like you're going through different worlds. The actors are super and very engaged and the scares are fantastic! Also, great pace - you never feel like you're stuck behind people. My biggest complaint with most places is while you're inside you're going so slow that you see all the scares coming. Not so here. Trail of Terror is an outdoor haunted trail of sorts. Basically its a 30-40 minute walk through all sorts of different themes scenes. During Halloween I was in a production of Rocky Horror in Middletown which last for two weekends. In between the weekends we decided to get together as a cast and check out Trail of Terror. We saw online that if you went on the regular line it was $10 but speed pass which gets you in quicker was $20. When we got there no one was on line for speed pass but general admission had about 30 people on line. We decided we might as well go with speed pass since it would help us avoid the line and it went to the red cross anyway so we might as well. They let us in around 7 o'clock and being that we were the first speed pass group we were one of the first ones in, which was nice because other people were held up by us, but no one was able to hold us up. In comparison to other haunted hay rides and such I have been to this was definitely the scariest. There were some points that weren't that scary, but other that were, and others like the diner were just gross. It was definitely worth the $20 bucks that we spent on it. I think the coolest part of the night was once we were done and were standing outside getting ready to head back out. We were just finishing filling out our survey's and then all of a sudden we hear "Oh my god you guys are the rocky horror cast." It was really awesome. One of the women who was part of the Trail of Terror that didn't get there until later because they were working during the day. They were about to head on to the trail when they spotted us. Apparently they saw us the prior Saturday during the midnight performance. Its pretty cool to feel like a celebrity. I can't wait until next year so I can go see it again! read more

The best haunted trail around!! Doesn't even compare to the theme park trails. Every room, hall and "trail" is well thought out, creative and haunted in many unique ways. I really loved the themes as well - carnival, the ring, hocus pocus, dolls....everything was fantastic and detailed. Buy tickets ahead of time and get timed ones...The line is still about an hour or so but it is well divided up and things along the way to keep you entertained. After years of hearing how wonderful and scary this place is, I was very disappointed as I walked through Trail of Terror this past evening. I thought they would separate us into the groups with the friends/family we came with, but I was wrong. The workers simply counted from 10-15 people and sent us on the trail. Although there were a few jump scares here and there, but walking the trail was slow and basically boring. As a person who loves to be scared during the halloween time, I expected a lot more from supposedly "the scariest attraction." read more

So I hate to post this... I've gone to the Trail of Terror for the past 3 years and its always been great! So scary, so much fun, so worth it! However this year I was sooo pissed off and annoyed! We waited in the cold and rain for over an hour, even after purchasing the express tickets. Thennnn it was very mediocre! What really ticked us off is that when finally going through the trail, every corner we turned- expecting to be jumped at and scared, we turned the corner to see the people (characters) on their cell phones! They would see us and quickly put their cell phones away. We'd just walk right by them. How ANNOYING! I was expecting to be scared and have fun like all the other times we've gone but instead it was an hour walk through the dark. I was pissed. We paid $20 for nothing. Hopefully they fix this for next year! read more

This was our first time at the Trail of Terror. All was so perfectly put together. The frights were perfect. Each and every room we entered at a specific smell to it. Freddy's had a boiler smell, so on so forth it was just truly amazing. The beginning was funny as can be, a zombie type person scared the crap of of my sista and she screamed and went running stepped up on to the small platform and grabbed onto the beam above and was hanging..... literally... The ONLY TIME WE FELT SOME TYPE OF WAY WAS WHEN THE WOMAN STANDING IN THIS AREA WAS A TOTAL I MEAN TOTAL B.... Her approach was totally uncalled for.... mouthy to my sister get off my stand. I said get off... my sister was like sorry he scared me. The volunteer was so NASTY even to the point were she called her out and said Ill be waiting for you when you leave. So in other words she was gonna fight her... OMG the moment then was ruined. We all had a great time minus this rude woman and how she changed our hole demeanor on the Trail of Terror. Mind you the little man that was having fun scaring my sister, was still trying to have fun with her and at that point my sister told him sorry no longer fun she ruined it for her. Then some man came up to us. He worked there in the beginning and asked what was happening and we told him about his Volunteer's demeanor, He did look so happy but not sure if he took care of the woman who ruined if for our entire group. She shouldn't be working , Volunteering for anything that includes a good clean fun.. She a total drag, total stick in the mud. Hope no one else will have to endear her rudeness and enjoy the remainder of the Trail of Terror. #trailofterror Ps. I can guarantee that I would have put a 5 rating if it wasn't for this woman ruining the fun. OH and we had paid 15.00 each push 8.00 per 3 cars to park for 10 of us. are you kidding me. So. much. fun. The boyfriend surprised me with a date to the Trail of Terror this past Saturday. We'd never been before, but I've always wanted to go. (We tried a few years ago, but it was sold out by the time we got there, and it should be noted that the people who were definitely getting in still had an over-three-hour wait.) Tickets are $10 if you're willing to wait, but you can also pay $20 ahead of time online to get fast passes. Boyfriend got the fast passes, and we still waited about an hour, but it was totally worth the time saved/not risking it selling out. Also, the trail itself is at least $20 worth of entertainment. (And the money goes to charity, so how can you feel bad about that?) I couldn't stop saying, "This is so well done!" as I walked through. Every part of the trail is as if you're going through a different part of a horror movie. It's like you're actually in a scary basement, like you're actually in a funeral home, like you're actually in a crazy German techno club with blood all over the walls and strobe lights. Everything was so well done. It was also really scary. I had my share of spooks and screams, and every turn was a new adventure/scare. There were parts where I had to crawl through small spaces. There were parts where I had to cross bridges and felt like I was getting turned all around. It was just really cool. Most of the crowd seemed to be high school kids on dates or in big groups, but there were also some older people and people in their mid-twenties like me and my boyfriend. I think it's fun at any age, though I wouldn't bring young children because it's really scary. Overall, a real fun Halloween activity. read more

I went to the Trail of Terror for the first time this year. The actors were absolutely amazing. You absolutely get what you pay for. I roll my eyes at scary movies, I was genuinely afraid of this!! The trick is, you don't know what's just a fake figure and a person standing in the dark. Be prepared for crawling (multiple times), climbing and walking on uneven surfaces. If my boyfriend weren't in front of me I'd be lost as the trail is windy and super long! (30-45 minutes...) I got the fast pass online and had to wait for an hour but it flies by as there's entertainment around the entrance. I absolutely give this place five stars! I have gone to Trail of Terror in the past and was never disappointed with being somewhat scared. Went this past week and have to say WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT it should be named TRAIL TO THE FUN HOUSE! Went with a 10 and 12 and two 16 year olds and they were cracking up instead of being scared. Sorry to say this terror groupies but look for another venue. This is a BUST.
