Small yet nice place, worth the stop. Prices seem reasonable with a nice staff and exceptional (in my experience) coffee. 10/10!

Full disclosure, this place has broken my heart and as a patron that has spent well over $10k here in the last several years I'm at a loss for words. I met my partner at the Billy - yeah that still happens - and its gutting and egregious to see such feckless owners swoop into this lovely Appalachian business and run this with the care one would expect from a a Wayfair adorned short-term rental. Yes, the bones are still good here, but the superficial facade of community runs as deep as the chipping yellow paint on the "Billy Arrow" outside. The new Billy, in my deeply storied opinion on West Virginia history, sees right through the propped-up idea of "community" and it equates to the long history of outside interest here in the Mountain State that saw countless greedy men move in to extract and exploit the resources of the good people of Tucker County. The good people of West Virginia. I see it everyday and its no more true then than it is now with the Billy Motel and Ish Kitchen. You can almost smell the lack of community awareness and grasp with every high priced pour of el Toro cocktails. Its sickening to see my favorite establishment in this state now owned buy careless ownership that at one hand talk about community, but stab their "own" in the back. Its not community focused. Big time. One would think an owner in a town of 600ish with about 15-20 potential employees that would work service would respect the roots laid out by those here. Those that came before. But, I digress, because as the former states, its all about making as much money as one can and screwing over the locals when one does swoop in as an out of state interest. Its so, so sad. I will no longer be spending a dime here and have canceled all future bookings as I had planned about $2k worth of lodging this Spring through Fall for work and leisure that brings me here from Fayetteville all the time. I am not saying its a bad spot and the locals there are doing their best, but just know this place is coal-baron full on and if they care so much about the community they so share I would love to see them put their money where their mouth is. But, as a native West Virginian, and if you know anything about the state, we all know that will not happen. Montani Semper Liberi (for the DC/AZ folks, that means Mountaineers are Always free )

This place perfectly personifies the spirit of Thomas, WV, and maybe even a little bit of Davis mixed in there too. The building is historic with tons of character, located right at the end of the loop as if you can't exit town without paying homage. The inside has soooo much character and is decorated perfectly in a mad hatter style. We often stop here for ice cream during our wanderings of Wild Wonderful West Virginia but have been known to get food from time to time as well. I would say that everything is honestly priced. They aren't trying to get rich and they aren't trying to rip off the community, just serve it and make a living and keep the doors open. The food is on the cheaper side and the quality matches. I don't think they're after any Michelin stars but more interested in just feeding the people. Service is on par with the attitude of the building and blended well. Just enough at just the right time. You might have to swap a few chairs from one table to the next to find the right combination for your party as I think all of the chairs in there are different. They also serve the community by hosting music, up to 300 events per year according to their website. That's one of the only times I skipped the fiddle when I was passing through was when they had a band with a cover and we just wanted food. We wanted to sit down and eat but were told we had to pay if we stayed but could take the food to go or outside without the entrance fee. I think we just went over to Picnic instead which is also a great local spot! See you next summer fiddle!

Mt Top Convenience…read more Shades of Colassessano's Matriculating into Fairmont State in the 1960's entailed an array of eventful activities which enhance and develop life. As a subscriber of direct on campus education, I eagerly embraced campus life. One element was selecting membership in Theta Xi. Weekly meetings were accompanied by a Theta Xi gathering at Colassessano's which was a colorful Fairmont Pub. Sadly this institution has been replaced by a sanitized version. During that era, Pittsburgh beers appealed to the working class, and popular labels included Iron City Lager, Fort Pitt Beer, Pabst Blue Ribbon, Schlitz, Miller High Life.... As a three year high school letterman, and scholar athlete, I had zero experience with beer, wine, spirits, and shine - all were available to Fairmont State students. I was not yet eligible to hold a draft card. While Theta Xi brothers debate the advantage of various Pittsburgh beers, I was happy to purchase a pitcher of nearly any cold draft. Given decades of European travel, I developed a palette for several German and European brews; none of which were offered at Colassessano's. In retrospect it is this appreciation of European brews that spared me from the emerging micro brewing craze. Ok, some of these brews are very good, and several are horrendous. It was at Colassessano's and the publican that I encountered my first Pepperoni Roll. Home baked rolls included mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmigiano. And Oliverio's Hot Peppers were added to this bundle from heaven. Later we learned to cherish the Colassessano's pizza. This pie seemed to approximate a Chicago deep dish pie with mozzarella, ricotta, and Parmigiano, Oliverio's Hot Peppers, pepperoni, hot sausage, .... Mt Top Convenience is listed on the West Virginia Pepperoni Trail, and for good reason. I take care to phone in an order form Ohio one day in advance of pickup. Of course, I visit the local Davis grocery store for a dozen bottles of Oliverio's Hot Peppers. I take care to import Pilsner Urquell and Guinness Stout for this ski holiday. Yes, Guinness Stout is better in Ireland. Mt Top Convenience offers a variety of interesting brews, and there are several microbreweries in this area. Mt Top Convenience offers a great take on pepperoni rolls. Caveat: do Not take chances with filling station pepperoni rolls which are pre-packaged. Our goal is to support local business, and our menu and dining options for this holiday will center on local West Virginia businesses.

The young lady who was working Thursday night (11/10/16), "Angel", was as sweet as can be. She welcomed us with a smile and gave us some tips on where to find some place to eat the next day. The next morning, my husband and I returned to the station to pick up some coffee and a quick breakfast. There was a young man behind the register and an older lady in the back by the coffee. Neither one of these employees made eye contact or smiled when we greeted them, but we felt their stares as we got coffee and sat down in a booth to eat a sandwich even though we asked if it was okay to sit down in the booth to eat. We left thinking, maybe they were upset they had to work on a holiday? We returned later that evening to buy some bottled water and another older gentleman was behind the register carrying on a conversation with a young lady about correctional officers in a women's prison who if I am not mistaken had exposed themselves to the female inmates. Whatever, none of my business... I got the merchandise I wanted to buy ready and placed it on the counter once the young lady had left and the counter was clear. I tried to make eye contact with the man at the register and said, "hello, how are you?" but he ignored me and instead rang me up complaining that his scanner would not work properly. As I paid him, again I smiled and tried to engage him but he avoided my efforts. Okay, so why should I care right? I guess where I come from people actually try to be nice if they work in customer service, so it was weird to be totally ignored. Hopefully, "Angel" can find a way to rub some of her pleasant personality off on her coworkers.... Sincerely, Happy to be back home in Virginia
