I've heard residents say their only complaint is having to decide between all of the activities available each day they end up missing out on something else! Having every level of care available for my loved ones is my priority. You can tell the staff take great care of the community itself and the residents that live there. Everyone is always happy. I was also very impressed by the wall of tv screen that show how long staff have worked there, with more than 20 that have worked there for over 20years! If you are looking for an active, warm and home where your loved ones can continue to live full lives, Friendship Village is the place!

I'm writing to share my profound disappointment with our experience at Friendship Village, where my…read moreaunt and uncle lived for years.  My aunt transition from independent living, to rehabilitation care, to memory care, with the family pouring hundreds of thousands of dollars into FV over the years.   Having seen most of the facility and levels of care over the past 5+ years, it is clean and generally well maintained. It is understaffed and the level of turnover indicates poor compensation for frontline workers. This underfunding occurs despite the fact that the "non-profit" that owns it, Lifespace, is worth over $500,000,000. A nearly $100,000,000 expansion occurred at FV over the past few years, too.   If you are looking for a socially vibrant place for your loved one, please keep looking. Common areas are not structured to encourage gatherings; there is a dearth of social interaction opportunities and when you roam the hallways on walks or tours you will hardly encounter a single soul.   The week of my aunt's entry into hospice (at Friendship Village with an outside provider) I drove from out of state to spend what I soon found out would be her last hours at her bedside. We received barely a check-in from the staff. When I asked questions, someone would tell me they would find out for me and I would never see them again. Upon her passing, I was left on my own to navigate move-out procedures, cleaning, sorting, etc. Every question I asked was met with confusion, a promise to return with answers, then no answers. The morning after she died,  when I was coming and going with her belongings, no one checked in with me or offered any sympathy. Questions like "Where do I put the trash? Do you offer clothing to other residents or do I donate to Goodwill? What about extra medical supplies?" Crickets. Wherever your money is going, it's not going toward keeping employees current on policies and procedures with residents/patients. It also should not fall to the PCAs and MAs to do this work-- staff a place adequately to handle issues once someone dies. I was in a constant state of disbelief that such an expensive place wouldn't even acknowledge a death until two days after it happened.   Calling the business office a few weeks later to handle remaining paperwork, the individual on the phone was so cold I actually asked if she knew that my aunt died, because her behavior did not seem to match the topic.  The response? "Yes."   The first communication I received after my aunt died was two days later, via a brief email expressing sympathy, with the rest of the email detailing the cost we would incur due to leaving things behind and asking about various items remaining in the room. Now, had anyone answered my questions the day after her death, I would have been able to dispose of things appropriately. When the social worker who sent the email did not hear back from me within a few hours, she called me (I was traveling back home). I suggested that if she wanted to truly practice social work, she should find a new spot, because being the fee enforcer is probably not what she went to school for (the contacts I had with the RD, RN, and SW were generally very good, to be fair). If you do move your loved one here, plan to pay exorbitant amounts of money to do a lot yourselves. This is a sentiment I now see I share with other reviewers. Your money and your loved ones' last days are better spent someplace else.

My parents moved into the Main Street Lodge assisted living just a couple of weeks ago. The…read moreapartments are bright and open, and so far the staff all seem really great! The layout is very simple so it is easy to find your way around. This was a major concern for me and my siblings as both of my parents are suffering from dementia and have some mobility issues. They seem to have lots of activities--BINGO is a favorite! The apartments have been updated with new cabinets, carpet and paint. The complex smells fresh and clean and the food isn't bad either. My parents seem to be happy here so far. The initial meeting we had with the nurse practitioner went really well and I think they really have my parents best interest at heart. The assisted living apartments are attached to a nursing home and memory care unit. There is a chapel in the apartment complex and you can walk inside through the nursing home to the attached Church (St Anthony Chapel). The apartments have a very small kitchenette with a microwave, refrigerator, sink and drawer microwave. Just what they need since lunch and dinner are provided.

I recently was in Augustana HCC after a hospital stay. I was more than surprised at what I…read moreexperienced. I have heard so much negative about nursing homes. Here the facility and staff are top notch. It is modern, clean and well maintained and, most of all, the nurses and aids were fantastic. My needs were well cared for and the staff anticipated many of my needs. They even treated the "grumpy old men" (and there were lots of them) with care and polite understanding. The cleaning staff were "Johnny on the spot": I was amazed at how quickly and prompt they were at picking up and cleaning any mess. The food is good. I am not a connoisseur but was very happy with it. Each resident had an individual, but common, menu. The individual meals were tailored to each patients needs and desires. I was mildly surprised that when someone asked for additional items they were usually provided. Again, the dining staff were very friendly and accommodating. I had approximately 15 meals there and only one was disappointing. As most people, I do not really want to be in a NH unless necessary, but when I need it, I will choose Augustana again.

We visited a family member who lives in the nursing home section of Trillium Woods. He started out…read morein the assisted living section, was in the transitional care area, and now the nursing home section. The complex is huge and we have appreciated that he has been able to stay at Trillium Woods as he has aged and his health care needs have increased. We used to eat with him in the restaurant when he was in assisted living. It was like going to an upscale restaurant. It was nothing like "nursing home food." The menu would change and provided the residents with a wonderful selection of options from which to choose. The activities are many and varied. We have appreciated that when the residents go on outings that the staff photographs them and shares them on Facebook. We have enjoyed seeing our loved one at different places, and seeing how happy and engaged he is with other residents and in the community. There is a library for residents and I was happy to see that he uses it regularly. At our visit, he shared that he had just read a book about Robert Frost, the poet, and had a new book about the he sinking of the ocean liner RMS Lusitania that occurred on May 7, 1915, during the First World War. Keeping the residents' minds active and encouraging them to read and continue to learn is impressive and needed! The nursing home section is well-maintained, elegant, and welcoming. There are public seating areas, water with lemon slices in it for guests and residents, a puzzle table, t.v. area, and dining area. When we arrived, the cloth napkins were beautifully folded on the table that had a white linen table cloth on it. This is normal...not the exception. The staff are friendly, helpful, and professional. They treat everyone with dignity and respect. I could only wish that when the time comes that I need nursing care that I could live in such a beautiful, well-maintained facility with top-notch staff and programming in the arts, music, and outings like Trillium Woods offers.

While of course there are some wonderful, hard-working people here that I appreciate so much, for the most part, my grandma was neglected and did not receive the care or treatment she deserves, especially considering the fact that we paid over $6000 per month for her to live there. I understand being short-staffed and overworked, I am a social worker... However, the way I saw some of the workers treat my grandma was unacceptable. Additionally, they did not provide many of the services that we were paying for them to provide. My grandma was lucky if she got her clothes changed once a week, they rarely did activities with the residents, and they told her "they could not help her" when she asked them to help her dial the phone to make a phone call or turn the TV on, etc. They would say things like "you better eat your meal now because you will not get anything later," and overall were just mean.

They have no storage areas for residents as many other homes do so he can only have what fits in his room. Most of the staff is very friendly. They all know my dad and always tell me how sweet he is. He had an issue with one worker, I called in for something else and mentioned this to the person I was talking to, and the next day the administrator and the head nurse had addressed it and called me to update. They label all his clothes I bring in for him and do laundry there every week or so. Everything is included. The coordinator Rochelle who sets up his appointments and transportation when needed is wonderful. She also helps him when he has a video appointment. The food seems decent and they come by every day to set up his meals for the next day. If he doesn't like something that's scheduled he can order an alternative like a cheeseburger or something else. I bought him a fridge so he can have his Coke in his room but they also have a vending machine for pop and snacks. I haven't been able to visit as often as I like due to my own health and disability but they keep me updated and he likes participating in the activities they have for patients like bingo and different crafts. I know it's a hard transition for most people to lose their independence and most nursing homes are not ideal unless you are a millionaire. But if you're on Medicaid (which they will help you apply for) it's not bad and my dad seems happy most of the time. All his income goes to the facility and MA covers the rest. He gets ~$130 a month for incidentals but I try to provide him with what he needs.

My Mom's final choice really came down to wanting to be in the city center vs somewhere more peaceful. Amy could not have been more kind, helpful, and professional. She was clear in communications which I am grateful for as this was a complicated move with all the emotions and demands on my personal life. She really helped lead the way on next steps in a collaborative way that made my life easier and really improved my confidence in our steps as a family and in this team and facility. Also, the connection to Fairview is very positive for us as it is deeply embedded in Minnesota as a care provider which is also important.

When our Dad made the difficult decision to sell his condo and move to a Senior Living location, we visited multiple Senior Living homes but kept returning to The Glenn Hopkins. Scott and the wonderful Marketing Team were very patient, allowing us to visit multiple times as they understood this was a major decision for our Dad and family. Dad chose The Glenn because it felt like home and we knew he would be cared for very well. Dad spent the first five months in The Towers. He was so happy with his one bedroom w/den and couldn't get over the fact that he was being served meals in a dining room with white linen tablecloths. It felt like he was dining out every day. In June, Dad had to move to The Terraces Assisted Living where he lived for the next 10 months. Sandra, Julie, and Jen were so fantastic and accommodating as he required many schedule changes based on his changing health. Dad formed many friendships with the other residents during his time at The Glenn. They looked out for each other and we are thankful for his wonderful neighbors. He also made many friendships with the staff who cared for him. It takes very special people to do all that the nurses and aides do every day and to do it with love and patience. Dad made the choice that if something happened he did not want to go to the hospital. Instead, after suffering a stroke, he spent his final days in his home being cared for by the people who knew him and cared about him. Our family is OVERWHELMED by the love and support that was shown to our Dad and us during his final days, and the days that followed as we planned his service and moved his belongings out of his apartment. It was a steady stream of staff and neighbors who came to show their love for him and say goodbye. The staff also provided so much comfort and support to our family each day. They shared stories of their family members, gave us lots of hugs, and told us "we cared for your Dad how we would want our Dad to be treated". It was very touching when some of the staff took their personal time and came to the funeral service. The Glenn was an extension of our family and we knew Dad was loved and received exceptional care every day. Dad frequently said "God brought me to The Glenn". We are thankful this is where he lived and thankful to everyone who touched his and our family's lives. We would highly recommend The Glenn Hopkins to anyone looking for a Senior, Assisted Living or Memory Care home. Family of Al Carlson

Two years ago I decided I wanted to live closer to my children and to downtown Minneapolis, so I sold my town home in Elk River. I no longer wanted to own real estate, thought about finding an apartment, but I'm 84 and knew I'd need services at some point even though I don't now. I have 8 children and the thought of their trying to decide "what to do with Mother" made me feel I should be the one to decide. I shopped around a lot and found the Glenn by far the most appealing senior residence. I still don't NEED any of their services, but I use the shuttle a lot, have learned to navigate the Metro buses and can get around so easily that I sold my car six months ago. What pleases me most is 1) the opportunity to volunteer here as much or little as I wish, 2) the ability to be as social (or not) as I like and to my great surprise 3) the wooded surroundings and splendidly maintain grounds. I like to walk and never tire of this area. And don't get me started on the city of Hopkins! It puts Elk River to shame, with many good restaurants, a movie theater, an art center with concerts and events for all ages, a grocery store, hardware store, drug store that delivers, specialty shops and a half dozen antique shops as well as a branch of the Hennepin Library system. (We have a fine library in our own building, too, with quarterly deliveries of books from the Hennepin system as well as hundreds of books that have been donated to us.) I am Catholic and was delighted to find a "church home" here. Last of all (perhaps it should be first) the entire staff is not only competent but very, very kind. Every one I've met will go many extra miles to be helpful.
