I made the mistake of going to another hot studio in Northern VA and was bitterly disappointed…read more The energy and atmosphere that Studio South has is unmatche. Now I'm no professional yogi or advanced anything, but the instructors are respectful and kind while still helpful and constructively critical. The studio is CLEAN. Such a huge deal to me, and I didn't even realize until I saw another hot studio with carpet instead of the hard flooring. There is never any odor, even at the height of class. AND there is an immense student discount!! 275$ for the year or something like that when I've seen memberships as high as 1800.

There was about an 8-month period where I couldn't attend (due to "life,"), so for 8 months I paid the monthly fee thinking I'd start up again at some point and 8 months I paid them and didn't use anything I was paying for. After about 8 months I decided that at that time, I probably wasn't going to go back for a while. I was out of town on a trip when I called to cancel, and they would not cancel my membership over the phone. It was a lengthy trip, so I got charged an additional 2 months for a membership simply because I was in a completely different state and they would not cancel my membership over the phone or even just send me an email cancellation option. You'd think, since we are almost in 2020, that they could figure out a way to accommodate people who need to cancel via phone or email. No. I had to wait until I returned and could physically go in to cancel - absolutely ridiculous, and I was charged for an additional 3 months because of that. It has been almost a year, and this still makes me upset. I will never go back to this studio due to what I feel was extremely poor customer service. I understand they have this noted on their webpage -- you'd better make sure you read everything before you sign up with them, is all I can say. Personally, I find it ridiculous and I'll find another yoga studio. Other than this issue, I actually enjoyed this studio and I would have highly recommended them to anyone. But after that -- I'm sorry, but I don't understand why someone can not cancel over the phone or via email. It's a bit ridiculous to require someone to personally go in and cancel, especially if they are in a completely different state. What would have happened if I had moved and forgotten to cancel? Would they just keep charging me and I would have to purchase a plane ticket solely to come and cancel my membership in person? It's almost 2020, people -- time to get into the digital age.

We have practiced for almost a decade and this was absolutely the most overpriced and mediocre class we've taken across the world! Each prop was hospitably offered to us, only for us to realize that each item they offered us cost us 5/10 more dollars. if I would've accepted their kind offer of blocks or straps to use during the class, it would've been a hundred dollar yoga class! Not to mention the teacher was incredibly difficult to hear over the music (which I must say was fire- only reason I'm giving two stars) . For the price of the class, I would've loved at least a hands on adjustment or two, more audible cues, a more imaginative flow, or perhaps a spa treatment!!! I think they are less interested in providing a challenging, interesting yoga experience than taking peoples money. But, good for them, they seem to be doing quite well.

What I love about Hot house is that they're more structured and have more information before you get into heated yoga practice. Although an added charge, they have a road map of postures online that you'll be going through and give you insight as well as modifications if you're just starting out, it's great for beginners as well as advanced practitioners that might want to go back and review. Knowing this helped me feel less awkward and to just focus on my postures. The classes are consistent when it comes to poses. Hot house yoga room is organized with dots that you align your mat with and what's great is that they play music while you practice the poses. Beginner = Stability classes More Experienced = Hot Flow Hot house yoga, is and can be spiritual (I mean yoga itself is spiritual), I hear people say that it feels good and yes I get a good runners high at the end but I still feel like a loose noodle and not so much a stiff pretzel (which is a good thing). What I like about doing heated yoga is that it's a life changing (how do they say it...) paradigm shift. The only thing that I can possibly see Hot house improve upon is probably adding a sauna/steam room to quickly acclimate before the class. It's a challenge in the beginning but that's just me because I enjoy winter more. They have Mat and towel rentals. They offer a good line of yoga products which is with Manduka. I've had a Manduka mat and towel for years and they last a long time. The classes are flexible and affordable which is great.

Here's the thing - the studio has a very sophisticated HVAC (heating and air flow/filtering system). I don't think I have found another hot yoga studio that provides that level of air quality during practice. Equally important are the people, the staff who check you in and the yoga instructors. Honestly, someone suggested I try hot yoga and I thought there was no way I'd make it through a class. Now, here we are 2023, and I am still practicing at Hot House Yoga. There are many health benefits when you add hot yoga to your practice. Yoga was transforming for me, and I took it up later in life. Then I tried hot yoga and I am very grateful that I found a clean and beautiful place to practice. Thank you Hot House Yoga. Namaste.
