I have been having chronic pain in my back, neck and shoulders and decided to try to get a massage. I was able to get in at 5 pm same day (I called around noon). Mina did my massage and she was great - she was very thorough, made sure to ask how the pressure was and she really seemed to focus to ensure to get all my knots out. The place was clean, neat and the massage room was very nice. My only two things to note: 1) the hole in the bed for your face when lying down was almost covered by the sheet which made it a little difficult to breathe. When having my face down like such I really like the ability to breathe fresh air and have that hole unobstructed, and it just felt a little too covered. Easy fix and I could have said something but just decided to leave it be. 2) the lights could have been dimmed and that would have made it a little more relaxing. I understand not all massage places like it to be completely dark and that's fine, but when I flipped onto my back it was a bit bright as the lights were on normal brightness as pictured in the photo. I came here for my first massage and unfortunately left feeling pretty uncomfortable. Since it was my first time, I wasn't sure what the process was supposed to be. I was brought to the room to change, but the therapist didn't explain what I should take off and kind of just stood there staring and waiting for me to change. When I asked what I was supposed to remove, there seemed to be a bit of a language barrier and she mostly just looked at me, which made the situation feel awkward and rushed. I had come in mainly for a deep tissue massage on my upper back, but a good portion of the session seemed focused on my glutes. At one point she pulled my leggings and underwear all the way down without explaining beforehand, which really caught me off guard and made me uncomfortable. I understand certain areas can be part of massage therapy, but clearer communication and giving clients privacy while changing would make a big difference, especially for someone getting their first massage. read more

The establishment is very clean and inviting. The staff is eager to please. The deep tissue massage was one of the best I've had. My reasons for giving it a 4 are these: cash only policy, no checks (difficult in this day and age), and the language barrier with the masseuse. She used a translator app in the beginning, but I was not able to tell her the areas that needed more attention. I would strongly recommend this business, I hope it succeeds. read more

Great news! The new massage place, Tranquil Massage, is open in the Food Lion plaza near the Dairy Queen. I called and was able to get in the same day (not for long) for a 60 min massage with free hot stone therapy for $80. I asked for deep tissue and got it - Michael, the owner, has been massaging for 11 years and knows what he's doing. He targeted the areas giving me the most problems but provided a great full-body massage. Especially neck and shoulders. Wonderful deep tissue massage each time I visited weekly for a month. The atmosphere is soothing and the environment is clean. Owner Michael is very friendly and has chocolates and various drinks including soda and water for you while you wait or when you are finished. The only thing I wish was different is the fact you get different masseuse each time. You cannot request one because they rotate among Tranquils various locations in NoVA.
