Have been a client for many years. However, I took my cat for a booster shot. They did a complete physical with first shot a month ago. (Also had complete physical with cat rescue a month before that). I expected to pay for just booster shot, but after appointment was completed they charged me an additional $70 for another physical. I have never had this happen with booster shots in the past. I was informed they have to do another physical before the give the booster to make sure cat is ok for booster. It should have been told to me up front when making the booster appointment that it was more then that. Very disappointed in the money grab. read more

Our cat was given the best care by both Dr. Gill and Dr. Geof Groocock during our time with this office. The office was really professional overall. They were very open with charges before I had to make decisions which was so helpful. I've never had a vet's office be that clear. They ultimately helped us through our cat's final days, hard decisions, and a quality of life euthanasia. Amanda at the front desk was so kind about it. They made it a special and peaceful time. I appreciated that they kept asking me if I was ready for each step. I highly recommend this office. read more

I cannot say enough good about this animal hospital. Every doctor I've gone to has treated my dogs like I would expect them to. I have never had a bad experience here and would recommend it to anyone. I'm sorry for the folks that have had bad experiences... You're going to get that everywhere occasionally. But again I can't say enough about the doctors the staff at this facility. My dogs are my babies and it's very important for them to be treated as such and they do this at Transit Animal Hospital. read more

Very annoyed! I contacted the clinic (that I have taken all my animals to since living in New York for 10 years) to have Matildas Apoqil filled that she has to have daily and was told They will NOT fill it til they see her. So OK. I have been trying to get this for over a week and now she is out of her meds and itching her neck to wear it will get infected as it has done in the past and they refuse to fill the rx until she is seen. Again OK. When can I have an appointment, the very end of November. So I ask "can I get enough pills to last until her visit, No she said. So they want my dog to suffer until her appointment. Great, this is bull s**t. What vet wants to LET a dog suffer. I'm so angry. Matilda is over 15, her neck area is already swollen so infection is anyday. read more

Dr. Jeff & Dr. Reed are excellent and take time to explain to you, they also aren't test happy and give options and steps they can take to solve the solution which is in your budget. Transit Animal is getting a bit pricey with NO FREE service ... Ex: when I started with them, an office visit was approximately $30 and that included a FREE nail trim.! Now: it's $63 just to walk through the door and that doesn't include nail trims anymore that's $25 extra. People shouldn't have to be hit so hard on the wallet for loving an animal and trying to do the right thing. read more

I felt the reviews here were unfair so I decided to leave one. My dogs been going here for probably 2 maybe 3 years now. It's hard to rate a vet LOCATION per se, and a lot easier to rate the actual vets. I have to leave 5 stars because I've had terrible, terrible vets in my dog's 8 year life and none of them were at transit animal hospital. I first came here when my dog was very sick. Dr. Reed took the time to explain to me each symptom he recognized and possible diagnoses he was going to test for. It ended up being Lyme disease which came back in the blood work VERY quickly. Dr. Reed went over every single thing in his blood work and test results to explain my dog was actually very healthy despite the Lyme disease. He's gone back several times since. Check ups. New medications for arthritis. Bloat surgery check up. Stitches for a cut. I've never waited more than 15 minutes. I do HAVE to say, a vet tech didn't explain to me my dog's cut would still be fleshy and a little bloody after staples were removed and it really freaked me out. One other vet was a little inattentive. That being said, I'll only be asking for Dr. Reed in the future. read more

I have been going to this vet for 12 years, all I can say is beware, yes the Vet themselves are nice and helpful when its just a routine checkup. However when your pet really needs a vet, they will tell you they don't have time for an emergency and they are all booked up even though, my dog was just seen by them the week prior and was prescribed an antibiotic and steroid. One week from seeing her she got severely sick and vomiting when I called the vet they proceeded to tell me that they didn't have time to see her and to take her to the ER vet. So she was treated at the ER vet and released and I was advised to have her be seen by our vet the very next day. I had to beg the front desk girl to call the ER vet to obtain the X-rays so that the vet had something to review, being that they "can't" see my dog, they were jumping right to surgery without reviewing anything. Finally they reviewed the X-ray and stated there was nothing that they could do for her and it was a waiting game and IF she made it to Monday to call them back. Monday came and gone and no follow up calls to see how she was doing or be scheduled, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT THE PETS. I am disgusted on the lack of compassion or regard for my dog in her time of need. I have left this veterinary clinic as that's all their good for is just simple routine follow up's or minor problems. BE WARE!!!!!! read more

Just don't. Most of the people we've encountered in person or spoke with on the phone are rude and don't seem to give two shits about your pet. No hi or hello, just "oh, get him on the scale!" We went to a different vet for our other dog and they greeted us and our dog and were friendly and after everything needed they explained clearly and gave us clear paperwork and instructions and didn't seem like they were just out to charge for everything they can. Transit also made an error with our dogs surgery and it needed to be redone and blamed it on us when it clearly wasn't done correctly the first time.. we had the bad feeling before the surgery was to be done but didn't go with our intuition about this place and our dog had complications. They are a business so obviously want to make money, but they need to realize customer service is everything and there are many other vets to choose from. They also need to take accountability for services not done right and not charge more than even the original service had cost. We gave multiple chances and spent more money here than we should have. We will never bring any of our pets back here (and we have multiple pets). They lost potential future business with us and our pets as we're new to the area and we were left feeling like crap and less money. We make good money and are willing to spend money on our pets when needed, but don't like to feel taken advantage of. read more

Have brought my puppy Long haired shepherd here twice and the stafff is AWESOME! Very attentive to our lil girl and very welcoming to her. The 2 vets i dealt with were very knowledgeable and I can tell they were dog lovers and owners themselves. Prices on certain things weren't the best; but the feeling of being welcomed and treating my Dog well was a plus. Overall a great veterinarian office for anyone. read more

They make you wait to come in even though you have an appointment. Then you wait in the exam room. Our dog is difficult and they were pretty good about that. He was put on a pretty strong medication for allergies. I was worried about doing it from what I read online about it- but I didn't really have a choice. He was prescribed 1 pill every 12 hours(2 pills a day). I renewed the prescription 2 times-picking them up there. They are also quite expensive. The 3rd time I came in to pick up the pills the girl at the counter said the vet had called my house to discuss the dosage. My dog was only suppose to be on 2 pills a day for the 1st week or so after which he should only take 1 pill a day. Thank god my dog didn't become ill! The pills suppress his immune system. Kind of a big mistake if you ask me. Why didn't they know this and adjust my refills? Very incompetent if you ask me! Sorry they said. The message on my machine when I got home was the vet asking ME if they had changed his dose or not. Shouldn't THEY know that? Sheesh. Get it together! read more

This was back in early 2014. A simple tooth cleaning nearly killed my year and a half old cat. He was apparently not properly looked after while he was under anesthesia, he became non responsive, and his body temperature dropped. For hours he was kept under a heat lamp and blankets, but was still not hooked up to a blood pressure machine. Come closing time, they told us there would be no one left to keep an eye on him. It was either leave him there alone, bring him home in his non responsive state, or quickly rush him to the 24 hour vet clinic in the middle of a blizzard. We brought him there and they said he could possibly have brain damage due to improper heart rate monitoring during the surgery. Luckily, he slowly woke up the next morning, nearly 24 hours later. This only occurred because one of my cats had plaque and tartar that was aggravating his gums. We were informed the only way to take care of his inflamed gums was to sedate him for a cleaning and possible extraction. I found out that was a lie. One of my other pets had the same problem not long after, and after a bit of research we found dental wipes and fluid which could be used to clean their teeth and remove plaque and tartar. And you know what? His gums cleared up after using those. No surgery was needed, even though that was the only solution according to one of their vets. In the end he was fine, but it cost us over $1700, and more than $500 of that was for the night he had to stay in the emergency clinic because they had no way to take care of him. After bringing several of our animals to this vet for over a year, they took no responsibility and never even bothered to call to see if he ever was alright. I will never set foot in this vet again. The only apology they even offered was that they were sorry I was upset. So if anything goes wrong when you take your pet to this vet, come closing time, they don't care anymore. After that it's your responsibility to find them the help they need. read more

I've taken my dog here for the past seven years. The staff is friendly and professional, they'll take the time to explain things in detail, and they know my dog by name. They also have a small kennel to board, which is very convienient, except they don't open on Sundays, so on weekend stays you'll have to pick up on Monday. FYI they charge by the night not by the day. read more

Dr Gill is an amazing vet. Both Dr. Reed and Dr. Jeff are smart, dedicated, and compassionate. I love the staff from the techs to the front desk staff. The facility is older but clean....my focus is on the quality of care, the tools available to treat my dogs, the kindness of staff, and lastly, they are not in for the money like some clinics especially in the suburbs. I have been taking my dogs to Dr. Gill for the last 7 years after my favorite vet left the area (Harris Hill Animal Hospital). I have never been disappointed in the quality of care for my aging dogs. They are special needs dogs with lots of issues. Dr. Gill has never missed a beat in figuring out how to treat or what the issues were for my girls. If she needed to refer out to a specialist, I always got the best referral at the right time in treatment. I would not ever consider taking my pets anywhere else...highly qualified service from good people. Special shout out to Dr. Jeff for going above and beyond as well with Cleo (my 16 year old Maltese). Again, Transit Animal Hospital is the best vet care especially if you have animals with health issues or are older. read more

I have taken my animals (2 dogs and 2 cats) to Transit Animal Hospital for almost 3 years now, but every time I bring them in I wait almost an hour before even getting into an exam room despite having an appointment! The staff is professional and care for the animals well, but if I make an appointment I expect to be seen in a reasonable amount of time. read more

I have been taking all of my cats there for vet care for the past 10 years and have been very pleased with the care they have received. They take the time to explain things to you. This is especially important if your pet has a chronic illness, like FIV, diabetes or kidney disease. read more

I have taken my dogs to Transit Animal Hospital for over 10 years. There are no bells and whistles but I don't need that from a vet and my dogs don't care. I don't think they cost as much as other vets. I love that they respect you as the pet's owner. They don't push expensive treatments for your pets if you cannot afford them. They don't do any unnecessary procedures without your OK. When there is a serious problem with your pet they give you options with estimates. The care my dogs have received has always been superb. My dogs are always well taken care of. Appointments are scheduled quickly at you convenience. They will see your pet on an emergency basis during normal business hours. There is an extra fee for emergency appointments, but it isn't excessive. The only con I can think of is that there is no one there over night should you need to leave you pet over night. They do have assistants to come in overnight, but they don't stay. read more
