Shenna Howell was our wine guru on March 5th for the afternoon and it was such a blast! It was at our friend Heather's lovely home. I had no idea there was such a thing as a wine-tasting party where the host sells you the wines at a discount. It's like Mary Kay - but cool. We started off with a lovely champagne cocktail then moved onto some whites then reds. I wish I had taken notes of which wines we tried, but I had just purchased a case the day before and didn't buy any the day of. Shenna taught us that not every wine goes with chocolate or cheese, which is what wine drinkers always assume is the case. We tried wines with sweets (fruits) and savories (pickles and olives) to discover how much those food items change the taste. Shenna also promoted the opportunity to host a party or become a wine-guide. Both are great opportunities if you need extra cash or just love to entertain. Who knew there was a business out there that would pay me to something I already loved so much? I certainly did not when a Google search popped up Traveling Vineyard 9 years ago! I have learned so much about wine, made life long friends, grown personally and professionally, and have had the most fun along the way! I'd never wanted to be a part of a direct sales company. When I started I had a very busy corporate career (requiring 50%-75% travel at times) with teenagers still in the house. I had zero time, or interest in anything else. That is, until I found this wine business! I was so intrigued and pleasantly surprised that I found time to see what this was all about and have loved every moment. The flexibility and freedom to make my own schedule while having fun with my friends provide a level of fulfillment I didn't know I needed. Customer sever is in need of some TLC. I ordered wine from a party , was not made aware of the "terms and conditions" my wine was delivered a few times while I was not home, needs to be signed for. Which is fine. So bring it to UPS and I'll get it. Nope. Sent back. $50 reshipping fee.... so I say let's cancel the order you already have it back ok "terms and conditions state $40 restocking fee" lovely so I will take a refund of $14 on the two bottles of wine. There was no other conversation the response stated "let's close this book, we can refund you $14" I am not one to write reviews and complain as I work in the service Industry.... which is why when customer service lacks... it gets me. I would Never treat a guest the way I was treated with Traveling Vineyards. So my advice, be sure to read the terms and conditions after doing a wine tasting! read more

So I recently went to one of these events for a good friend of mine. I wasn't really impressed with the wine for the cost you pay for each bottle but to support my friend, I purchased some wine. I understand paying for shipping but didn't realize I had to pay for shipping to my friends house, not my own. So I paid for shipping for wine and now I also have to pay for the gas to drive an hour away to pick up wine which makes zero sense to me. I won't be reordering anything in the future and I will be sticking with supporting my local wineries. It may be good for other people but not my glass. read more

The wine deserves several stars because it is good. However I was attempting to sign up to be a brand new long term client I was having trouble navigating their site, possible internet error connections, well I ended up doing two separate transactions. If you buy six bottles of wine you get free shipping. I had four in my cart and a kit of 3. The kit of 3 was purchased separate from the 4 by accident... I asked if I could have a coupon or some kind of help they told me no. I would have bought two more bottles of wine too...but I still was forced to pay the shipping on both orders. If I knew better or had more guidance I would have been able to get my entire order shipped free instead of two orders with over 15 dollars in shipping each. I cannot believe they. Refused to help a new starter out (literally spend hundreds of dollars) and they couldn't spare even a coupon for the next purchase. Not a hospital, caring company. Makes me sad. read more

Yes this is a MLM company and the wine tasting events are wine buying events. This party plan is not anything new. I personally love the wines that TV has and am an active member of their REWINED subscription service. A few things that I have seen in the reviews that I would love to help clarify. 1) Shipping of wine has NEVER been free. It has been discounted if your order is grouped into the Host's delivery, but NEVER has it ever been free. I only pay about $6 for shipping with my subscription, but a party shipment is about $10 to the host and a bit more to have it direct shipped to the customer at their home. It is pretty much a flat rate unless you are ordering a TON of wine. 2) As far as individual consultants, it would be better to notify the company of any individuals that did not meet your expectations. One person doesn't necessarily represent the entire company. If you feel the need to post here, you should also email the company directly. How else would they work on fixing the issue? 3) The wines are actually really good. Most wines in the same price point at the stores are hit or miss. I have dumped entire bottles down the drain because they went bad, or were just bad wine to start. I must say that all the wines I have had from TV have been great. Even if they weren't my personal favorite varietal, I think they are great wines. There was only one time I had a bad bottle and the company was the one to notify me of it. I didn't even have to experience tasting it. 4) If you are going to a wine tasting event, with other adults who wanted to get out of the house, then why would you bring an infant? If I found a sitter and the time to attend a sales party that a friend was hosting, the last thing I would want to do is bring my children. Not because I don't like being around them (I love being around them), however other guests may not be happy. Gatherings also could spread a ton of germs. I know for a fact that the host was likely given instructions to pass along to all guests that absolutely nobody under 21 should be in the room. It is a legal liability when alcohol is being served. I know this is all a silly opinion of mine, but I just want to say that the wines are good, the consultants are wonderful, customer service is top notch, and the whole vibe I get is a great one... but maybe that's the fissata talking right about now :) read more

I attended a traveling vineyard wine tasting event a couple of months ago with my sister and was disappointed at how pushy, insincere, and "sales" oriented the host was. There was very little focus on the quality and variety of wines, and more of a focus on "buying" the wines. I ended up spending $84 on 4 bottles of wine which included a $9.95 shipping charge. My sister ended up signing up to host a wine event with the Traveling Vineyard 2 days ago. I helped her prepare, and in doing so, I obtained an inside view of how the whole "system" works. My sister was told she MUST have at least 8 BUYERs attend the event. So instead of a wine tasting event, it is essentially a wine BUYING event. You must commit to buying wine before you even taste it. The host is required to provide food to pair with the wine. My sister spent over $100 on food for this pairing. Keep that in mind. To incentivize the host, they get 3 free bottles when the other attendees spend over a certain amount of money. HOWEVER, the host has to buy 2 bottles his/herself in order to qualify for the 3 free bottles...nonsense! At the end of the night, my sister spend over $100 on food, and had to buy an additional 2 bottles of wine to get 3 free bottles. Essentiality she spend $150 so the Traveling vineyard could make sales. The "Wine Guide" was VERY pushy, and scolded the attendees stating "No side conversations, and "No trying food before the wine is ready to taste". What was supposed to be a fun, social gathering turned out to be a formal, regimented session with the pressure to spend money. The host even added extra bottles to people's orders "by accident". The shipping is a SCAM. Each buyer pays a $9.95 shipping charge, which the Traveling Vineyard raves about as being the best value. HOWEVER, the wine is all shipped to the host in one package, so the host/buyer still has to drive to pick it up! The traveling vineyard charged about $100 to ship 2 cases of wine, I had a case of wine shipped from Heartwood and Oak (GREAT WINE BTW) for $20! Lastly, The traveling vineyard wine is the leftover dregs of lots of vineyards. Essentially they buy leftover wine, juice, etc. and make blends to sell. Its not that great, and WAY overpriced. This is sales system that relies heavily on persuasion and half-truths to sell, in my opinion, low-quality wine. read more

My wife has been a consultant for The Traveling Vineyard for about 18 months. The support she receives from corporate HQ and her up-lines is amazing. The wines taste great, and are reasonably priced. She has made many great friends through her business and the extra money doesn't hurt either. If you are looking to get into direct sales, this is one of the better companies to be involved with. read more

My overall experience with this company was very poor. I had a wine tasting at my home for my birthday and it took several weeks to get an update. Orders had been placed, Traveling Vineyards took our money and never provided tracking information or any kind of update on when we could expect our wines. Weeks later, I checked in with the guide only to learn the wines were damaged in transition and a certain wine a few of my friends ordered was no longer in stock. Another week passed by of me reaching out to corporate with NO RESPONSE, no status update, nothing! By this point, a month had gone by. I finally heard from corporate and discovered more excuses as to why our orders were never placed, never shipped, never even processed. The delay was so long, I thought the company was a scam. I asked corporate for our money back and they are just now processing refunds. I don't really ever suspect we'll even see those. No status has been provided on that. I think this company is so disorganized and corporate is even worse. I still can't believe we went an entire MONTH, paid our money but never received our wine, never received shipment information, no communication from corporate after repeated calls and voicemails. Had I known this, I would have never used this company. In hindsight, looking back at reviews, there are several other people both on Yelp and on the BBB website who noted having a similar experience with getting in touch with corporate, experiencing long delays, or never receiving their wine. Ordered online to help a friend and got a shipping fee when it was supposed to be free. Contacted customer service and found out they were going to charge me another 11 dollars to re route my purchase. 50 bucks for one bottle? I asked then to have my order canceled. Not happy with spending so much time back and forth but they said the would refund my monies. read more

Two things make The Traveling Vineyard worth avoiding at all costs. First, the wines they have and try hard to sell you are total crap. Like most similar companies, they make deals with bulk producers to bottle wines under artisan-looking labels that are anything but hand crafted. There's a reason you'll never find any of these wines in stores or restaurants. Maybe Dumpsters. The second reason is that The Traveling Vineyard is a huge Ponzi scheme. How much money a wine "guide" makes is based not so much on how many bottles they sell, but on how many people they recruit for their team. The more people they sign up, the higher each guide's income. Those at lower rungs must recruit their own teams to make anything worthwhile. A losing proposition. Steer clear, go to a local wine shop and buy the first wine you see. It will most likely be better than what you buy here. Update: Despite what the company's PR flunkies say, my comments are spot on accurate. As far as tastings.com reviews, don't you pay to have wines reviewed there, casting doubt on the ratings? No major wine publication has recognized TV's wines as of yet. read more

I'm a wine guide with Traveling Vineyard. I decided that this was likely the greatest side gig ever, as long as the wine was good (I have standards!) Fortunately, the wine is amazing, winning many awards in the world wine championships. It's a whole lot of fun to be an independent wine guide holding free tastings in people's homes. I've been a wine guide with Traveling Vineyard for less than six months. I was looking for an opportunity to make some extra money as we prepare to send our oldest off to college soon. I spoke to a leader in my area, was sold on the business and signed up blindly (I had never tasted the wine and had never been to a Traveling Vineyard event). I'm so happy I made the decision to become a wine guide. First, I've tried several varietals of the wine and expanded my wine tasting palate. I only drank wine sometimes, but have now grown to enjoy it more than I ever thought I would. Second, wine tasting events are a lot of fun for me! I have done direct sales before, but this is by far the most fun I've had at in home parties. I love sharing fun facts about wine and meeting new people along the way. The wine is a great product that kind of sells itself. Finally, I found just what I was looking for in regards to an opportunity to make some extra money for my family. In the few short months I have been part of the business, I've already made more income than any of the previous direct sales I did for a year or more. This is in reference to the Traveling Vineyard consultant in Sierra Vista, AZ. We were invited to a food and wine pairing event at a friends house and the consultant freaked out because we brought our 4 month old daughter with us. She said that children couldn't be around the wine. Because I wanted my wife to have a good time, I offered to stay "away" from the event and stay inside the house while they did the wine pairing outside. The consultant was very rude and bossy to the guests and my wife. At one point she admonished my wife for drinking the wine before she said she could. She also yelled at my wife and her friend for "talking" out of turn. I would rather drink a bottle of hot Barefoot wine in the parking lot of a gas station than go to an event hosted by this woman in Sierra Vista, AZ. I feel sorry for this woman's husband who was assisting her during the event and didn't say a word about her rude behavior; he looked like a broken man. I think that the Traveling Vineyard is a great concept and am sure there are some great consultants out there; just not here in Sierra Vista, AZ. read more

I recently hosted a party. The consultant was fine. However, having to buy 3 bottles of wine in order to get 2 free bottles is nonsense. Big deal! Also, your shipping charges are egregious and I can't believe you get away with this. If several buyers are purchasing collectively and sending to ONE LOCATION for ease of distribution, why are each of them being charged shipping, to the tune of $9.95 per order no less. And, if you want it sent directly to your home, it's $15.95, it's absurd. Most likely won't buy from this company again, the wine is not worth it. read more

If i could give them 0 stars, I would. Long story short, booked my party 9 weeks in advance. I was given a wine/ food pairing list. spent over $100 on food 5 days before the party (as advised) 4 DAYS before my party, my rep tells me she cant make it because of her due date being so close...i get that she was having complications, but I still feel as though she should have not booked my party so close to her due date because of these types of scenarios. So she referred me to another rep. The next rep. was a nightmare.(2 DAYS BEFORE) the party She couldn't decide if she even wanted to show up, and acted like she was doing me some big favor just for considering it. (as if i had a choice). She gave me a totally different run down of "how things work" with traveling vineyard, some info which i was completely unaware of until it was too late. She was concerned that she wouldn't make any money off of my party because 'guests were not normal wine drinkers,and were not previously informed that they should attend my party prepared to spend money, and that it's expected" THE 2ND REP. ALSO BAILED ON ME!. I had over $100 invested in food and drinks, $25 on invites, $35 on misc. party supplies, and now no rep. to do the tasting! I had to go out to the local wineries, and the wine and spirits shop 1 DAY before my party to spend $100 additional on wine so I could try to do the tasting myself!!! I felt it would have been extremely poor taste to cancel my party with only a day or two notice. I spent all night researching the food/wine pairings I could make with the food I already had that was suggested to me by the first rep. MORAL OF THE STORY, DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE, THEY COST ME ALMOST $300 TO DO ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ON THEIR END. I COULD HAVE CANCELED MY PARTY, BUT WITH 2 DAYS REMAINING, AND GUESTS RSVP'D, PLUS, I COULDN'T RETURN OVER HALF OF THE ITEMS I PURCHASED JUST TO HAVE THE PARTY IN THE FIRST PLACE, I was trapped into a lose/lose situation that was embarrassing to have to inform my guests that no rep. would be showing after all, and that I was going to have to "wing it" read more

After attending a Traveling Vineyard tasting I decided to schedule a party through my local rep. I went to the website to find the closest hostess and submitted all my information. I was also interested in potentially becoming a rep for the extra cash as I have a son soon attending college. No one ever responded. So I called the company and received many apologies and someone would contact me within 24 hours. Again no response. Called again to inform them not interested in a party or selling their product. I was shocked. Had this been pampered chef order tastefully simple etc....someone was immediately responding and doing everything to accommodate you. Disappointed to say the least. read more

Not only is the commission good but in addition to the money you make you also earn badges for meeting your goals which turn into coins you can redeem for anything from wine to business materials. Went to a 'home party'. Ordered $160+ of wine - 8 bottles (not exactly cheap). 3 different wines. Based on the tasting of the wines that the rep had at the party. Opted to have shipped to the house of the host. Order wasn't processed for 5 days. Then, 5 days later, on a 91 degree day - delivery was attempted. No one home. Stayed on the UPS truck the rest of the day - and the next day (another 91 degree day) - it was delivered sometime after noon. We picked up within 2 hours of delivery and brought to our house - inside. About an hour later, I was home from work and unpacked the box - the bottles were very warm. Yup. That's what happens when a bottle of liquid stays on a UPS truck in 91 degree weather for two days. I knew that this had probably affected the wine - more than likely 'cooking' it. We opened one bottle of a blended red and it was AWFUL - sour and tannic. Contacted the rep. Was first told 'no problem'. Then - 'Send us pictures of all the bottles - even the opened one if you have it.' ???? Okay. Did they not believe us? Look at the tracking number on the shipment - for heaven's sake. Or maybe they thought we had drunk all the bottles and were just fishing for freebies - i.e., we were lying. So, took the pics and sent to the rep. Next day - told 'tough luck'. We'll reimburse you for that one bottle - but no reimbursement for the rest of the bottles and no replacements - even though we offered to send the cooked, sour wine back. Called the company. Same story. Told that as we opened each bottle - IF it was bad, then call them again to process a complaint for a replacement/reimbursement. In the top ten of worst customer service and recovery from a problem that I have ever expeienced. Be advised that this IS their policy re: damaged wine. We were not apprised of this at the 'home party'. In retrospect, we should have paid for express shipping to our company address during working hours. Will not do business with this company again - and advise caution if you do. read more

I have been to three wine tastings with Traveling Vineyard, one of which I was the host. The rep that lead the tastings (same rep for all three) was sweet, knowledgeable and not pushy in any way. All of my friends had a great time and purchased lots of wine. I love this idea of trying before buying. Its a great reason to get the girls together! I mean, we all drink wine already so why not have a fun event where you can make the wine purchases you would anyhow. I am also impressed with the quality of many of their wines. I haven't tried them all but my favorites are Luxx and Stateroom. I would and have recommended this company to others and its disappointing to see the negative reviews. I believe that its not the company, but the wine guide leading the tasting, that can make or break it. I was lucky enough to have a wonderful wine guide, Lauren, out of Maine. We have hosted a party with this company twice before, once at our business and once at an employee's house and all went well. We recently called to have a consultant come back for our second party at our business. After 2 weeks of Calls/ Call backs and numerous attempts to book I made one last call to confirm our date and the women I spoke to told me if I haven't heard from anyone then it wasn't booked and gave me someone's email. I emailed the women and got no response. Then decided to call again, no answer. Then she called one of our other employees and told her if it's at a vendor site they WILL NOT open the wine. After asking her how they would know if they like the wine in order to buy it and asking what the point of a "wine tasting" was the women rudely replied saying well if they don't know if they like the wine then maybe I shouldn't go and then continued to down talk to her telling her the party hosted at her house was too laidback and informal. THAT IS THE LAST TIME WE WILL EVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM OR REFER THEM!!! We tell people to stay away from this rude company. Shame on them for such poor customer service. read more
