If you like the 'first come first served' style of doctors office, this is the spot for you. They do not take appointments therefore you have a decent shot of getting in and out, depending when you get there. I usually go on a Saturday morning, the doctors see the first patient at 10am but the desk girls are in by 9ish, so you might want to get in before 9:30 because there will always be a few people waiting at the door when they open. During the week they open at 8am. I get there for 9:30ish and i'm usually out by 10:30 or so, which is fantastic considering my primary care doctor can take 3 and a half hours even with an appointment. I've seen Dr's Hyman and Poole and trust both of them. They will sit with their laptops and type up notes about the visit as it's happening. Dr. Poole specifically does not like to hand out prescriptions unless they are absolutely necessary which is great, she goes through every possible avenue before coming to a conclusion about your illness. This is a great place to go if you have an unexpected issue that needs immediate attention, the girls up front are refreshingly nice and there's a decent sized waiting area with soft cushioned seats. Hey Fellow Yelpers! I wish to share a very unpleasant experience @.. Treat & Release'. 8012 3rd Ave. Bayridge! I've been there twice thus far.' My first visit was in June 2022'. When I arrived I noticed the office wasn't interested in my medical records.. from another doctor's practice. Therefore they had no info' on medical condition, allergies or previous surgeries that I may have had. I had a visit with..Dr. Jeffrey Hyman'. who appeared to be both in compassionate and not a good listener whatsoever. However.. I tried to express my medical issues.. unfortunately he was quite detached from me! Nonetheless.. I required necessary medication to be refilled and because I've recently lost a loved one of forty years.. I also.. needed some mild sedation. The first visit wasn't that terrible or great either.' In any case.. I figured after I get things back on track in my life.. I'd probably would see him for my medication one more time.' Nevertheless I made the mistake in returning to his office yesterday! It was a nightmare! First I was seen by his..NP Patricia' I advised her of a leaking heart valve, and ongoing shortness of breath! I said I had been thru a test hat revealed this condition! NP Patricia' ignored and played down like it was No BIG Deal! Afterwards.. came in a woman to draw some blood.. who was totally inept and almost rude to say the least. This person made a medical injury out of drawing blood from my hand! I never experienced so much pain and discomfort before with anyone. Lastly.. I didn't receive the quantity of medication from the NP' that we discussed during the very brief visit! It was so awful the situation at..Dr. Jeffrey Hyman's .. Office! I will never return there. The receptionists were very rude after I was simply request for results of an annual physical two months after taking my samples. One physician (not my physician) chimed in and said that I will need a new blood sample because the lab didn't complete the test. After I questioned what happened to the original sample, She sarcastically said "how else would we get another test result, get blood from your ear?"She was very unprofessional and rude. I just decided to leave and go else where. Would not recommend to anyone who is seeking a primary care. It will take a toll on your mental and physical health trying to get standard care. read more

I've been coming here for a while now but I will confine this review and my interactions solely to the office staff and my trip here today. I was called a couple of weeks ago by the office and then again by Dr. Hyman asking that I return following some irregular test results. I finally come into the office after not being able to do so due the doctor being on vacation and me not being available during the day the week prior. I come in at 12:40 after being told the dr would not be in until 1. I sit down and I wait... and I wait... and I wait... I waited for over 3 & 1/2 hours while the office snuck people in ahead of me. I counted at least 3 people. This is just not ok. At no point was there any communication with me about other patients having more urgent medical needs or anything. This came off as purely a who-you-know sort of thing that I will not engage in ever again. read more

On Friday I called Treat Release with a health problem. The person who help me is Elizabeth Harrington, Nurse Practioner. She is an Angel on Earth she helped and was very empathetic and compassionate. After I spoke to her and did what she recommended I was fine. Attitude! If you want your condition to be aired to everyone in the waiting room to hear, this is the place to go. If you want to listen to office personnel mistreat patients on the phone and then make fun of and gossip about them after they hang up whilst rolling their eyes, then by all means come for a visit. Don't even think of using the bathroom in the waiting room unless you want an STD; Dust, mold and filth are inappropriate in a medical environment. Be warned! read more

Dr. Poole is a fool. Every time I go to see her, she asks me what we decided on the last visit. She never updates the records or writes down notes from your visit. "Big deal" you might say? Well trying having a RX called in. They will have the old dosage amounts feom 3 years ago!! Don't let her sweet demeanor fool you, she's the most absentminded doctor ever!! Being able to see a doctor quickly was definitely very nice. The receptionist's attitude was poor, but I didn't care. What I did find funny was that she sat in front of a sign that said "Please turn your cell phones off!" while her iPhone blew up over and over again with text messages. Mid-conversation, while she was looking into my insurance, she stopped multiple times to check and reply to her texts. I may be mistaken, but while sitting in the waiting room, I noticed what looked very much like blood splatter stains along 6 feet of wall, near the base board. Even if it wasn't blood, it could have easily been cleaned up within a few minutes, but it looked like it had been there for a while. Dr. Poole saw me. She was considerate and nice enough, but I felt like she was blowing me off. She did blood tests, but gave me little advice or help besides telling me I needed to improve my diet and stop smoking. It would be cheaper to pay a friend to tell me something I already know. read more

I had what I thought was an inner ear infection but it turns out in was tonsillitis. I saw Dr. Poole who was quick to diagnose me and very knowledgeable. Though she was perhaps a little curt for my taste - but I guess that's how it has to been when you're trying to treat so many people. Plus she spoke with the pharmacist at Rite Aid to figure out the cheapest medicine for my treatment since I have no insurance. My wait was only about an hour (perhaps a little less), which is not bad for a walk-in place. I expected much more. Nurses and reception staff were all very courteous and helpful. As of 1/11/2011 - the cost to see a doctor at Treat & Release is $105 if you're not insured. The cost of my antibiotics were about $45. Total cost of my health: $150. Not bad! I would recommend coming here especially if you don't have insurance or a primary physician. If you're in pain, please don't put off seeing a doctor. Especially when good, affordable care is right in your neighborhood! read more

No idea what other 'complaints' refer to. I'm an occasional patient here and I think the MDs here are great. I see too many complaints in this thread are all females. Just sayin'. Thorough, professional. Absolutely no-nonsense. Overall, Treat&Release is exactly what it states: you come in with a non-emergency--but something which needs a quick fix--and in jig time you are out-the-door with a diagnosis and a prescription. This place is my Jesus for today. I came in here on some friend's recommendations (I love social networking) because I am too sick to make it back to NYC to see my PCP. I needed something quick and easy, that takes my insurance and would not make me wait 4 hours to be seen. This place was all of that and more! The check in was quick, I was seen within 10 minutes, seen by the nicest, sweetest and kindest doctor ever (Mary Poole) diagnosed, and treated - all in under an hour. Unfortunately this is going to sound melodramatic but I am not exaggerating at all when I say that Dr. Hyman of the Treat and Release Center saved my life by listening to me and not just making assumptions like the countless doctors I had seen prior. My situation required hospitalization (9 days of treatment) that other doctors and hospitals just didn't seem to notice I desperately required! In regards to Dr. Hyman you can't pick a better doctor. On to the rest of the office .... The women that run the office are priceless and a rare find these days. When you call the office with a question or a request they actually fulfill it that day. They call back when they say they will and the doctors actually get their messages and they too return your call that day ... sometimes after 7pm, when they finally have time after seeing countless patients. There isn't a doctor, nurse or medical support person working there that doesn't know how to answer almost any question you throw at them. Obviously I am a fan! Finally, it's wise to note that they are a first come/first serve center and are quite popular so it does get busy but the ladies will tell you an accurate wait time and you will get a proper examination from a proper doctor. You can call and ask wait time before you make the trip so you won't be mad if there is a wait when you get there. I can rave on and on but I think I've made my point. Even though I have lived in Brooklyn for a while now, I have never been able to find a good, local general practitioner. Sure I can hike up to the Upper East Side for premiere care, but it is not my scene and simply too far out of the way. So, when I got really sick recently and was in need of some quality doctor time, a friend suggested the walk-in Treat & Release Center in Bay Ridge. I thought, walk in??? I have insurance! I should get a real doctor! But, I was desperate so I went. And boy am I glad I did. The people were really kind, patient and caring. Everything in their office is digital (no hand-written charts), and they simply carry their laptops from room to room. My doctor seemed extremely competent and was very caring. And I feel like the atmosphere has a realness to it that some fancy offices simply can't pull off. The only reason that I am giving this place 4 starts is because 1) the wait is not short when you don't have an appointment and 2) they didn't seem very welcoming to those who don't have insurance. But overall my experience was great and I will definitely be stopping by again. read more

Professional, kind, and knowledgeable. My Fiancé saw Dr Poole as a walk-in because he was exhibiting flu like symptoms. I was very happy with her bedside manner and that she saw us very quickly. I haven't had a general practitioner for a number of years, so Treat & Release has been my neighborhood go-to spot for minor maladies. As others have noted, it's first-come-first served, so your wait time is a matter of luck. I try to get there just before they open in the morning and have gotten out within an hour. The doctors I've seen there have all been good and know their stuff, but their collective bedside manner can occasionally come off as condescending and/or preachy. But all in all, I would definitely recommend Treat & Release if you're in need of general medical assistance short of a serious emergency requiring a hospital. read more

I've been seeing Dr.Poole for over 10 years. I've also brought my family to see her when necessary. She has always been patient & kind. She takes your feelings & thoughts into consideration when deciding how to proceed w/any issue. She speaks to you in a way that is clear & understandable (no medical terms you'll have to google later). I only wish other Dr.s were more like her. Oh, & the staff is equally amazing. read more

I love this location. Dr. Mary Poole is a fantastic doctor. I come in from Marine Patk because this office is in my opinion a great one. The staff is courteous and professional. Both Dr Poole and Dr. Hyman are knowledgeable and excellect physicians. The office is clean, opened 6 days a week and although its a walk in office, I prefer them over any regular doctors office. Dr. Hyman literally saved my life. It may be a walk-in clinic, but both Dr. Hyman and Dr. Poole are great doctors who truly care about their patients. This is the first place I recommend to friends and family visiting from out of town if they need to get checked out. read more

Sadly, I am making this review because I was treated like I was a nuisance when I called to request a refill. Annabelle, the receptionist was cranky and downright rude. This was not the first time when she has treated me in this manner. I had a simple request. I needed a 10 or 14 day refill because a prescription I take was not coming through the mail for a week and I did not want to be without my medicine. She kept on repeating that my doctor "would not be in until next Wednesday" which I heard, but was hoping another doctor in the office would be able to help me. I am sure she deals with customers that are demanding and some patients may be impossible to satisfy. However, this does not excuse her behavior. She should not be representing the company and doctors on the phone if she can't deal with the "stress" or talk to people with respect. As I explained before, this is the second time I have had an encounter with her. My request was made to seem like a bother to her and when asked if I can talk to a supervisor she refused to transfer me and said "no other doctors were in." I know how to communicate to people and hung up the phone that day feeling frustrated and disrespected! read more

I walked in off the street one afternoon and was being seen within 15 minutes; within 20 or so by Dr Poole herself. Everyone was efficient and polite and pleasant. So was Dr Poole who promptly diagnosed my condition, and I received free sample medication that worked. That was that. Can't ask for more! Later, I went back and saw Dr Hyman who is great, and Trish the Nurse Practitioner who is also wonderful. Sarah at the front desk is also nice. Friendly place, and the longest I ever waited was an hour (often I wait much less) - I'd usually wait that long with an appointment at other doctors' offices. Here, no appointment needed. Got referrals with no problem. Thumbs up! read more

I am very disappointed. I had been to treat and release several times in the past and had a very good experience. I am having very bad back pain and wanted to see someone. I called yesterday at 4pm and it said the office was closed (while online it says 5). Okay, so I call today and they said they don't take anyone after 330. I race out of work get there at 320. The gate is up and I walk in, and there is one person waiting. I go to sign in and the girl behind the desk says I'm sorry we are done for the day. I just find this a little bit unprofessional. I know these are great doctors, just very disappointing that the office would turn someone away who wasn't feeling well. I guess they should correct the hours posted on their front door as well as online. They do not close at 5pm they, apparently close at 3. read more

TWO YEARS after I wrote this glowing review, I received a call on a Saturday morning from a young woman at the Treat and Release center accusing me of not paying my bill. They had xeroxed my insurance card at the time of service and billed me the copay on the spot. She threatened me with collections, claiming that my insurance wasn't valid at the time. By Monday, I had confirmed with my insurance company that 1. I WAS indeed under valid coverage at the time and 2. Treat and Release NEVER even submitted a claim for payment. I called Treat and Release to let them know and was able to speak with the girl who originally called me, who replied "Oh, must've been my bad..." and said they'd resolve the issue. Today (a month after the T&R's last call), I received a call from a collections agency about that very same charge. Seriously?! It's great that this clinic exists, but the admin office seems to let things slip through the cracks, then expects their patients to do their claims work for them. Never again! read more

Would give no star if I could. Went to doctor poole complaining about numerous sinus infections I've had over the years and I wanted a referral for an ENT. She refused. She said my problem is not anything to do with my sinuses, but that I touch my face too much. This was her first time meeting me and she had done no exam and had not been in the room for more than 5 minutes so I'm not sure how she came to this conclusion. After going back and forth, she reluctantly gave me the referral, but not before saying "even though you don't need it" and rolling her eyes. Unprofessional does not even begin to describe her. Not even 6 weeks later and I had to have SURGERY for my extremely deviated septum, enlarged turbinates and overall horrible breathing. The ENT said he does not know how anyone could've dismissed my problems, as my deviated septum was so severe he could see it externally. Dr. Poole is horrible and dismissive and rude. After one visit, I switched PCP's and refuse to see her. 1 read more

I could've died! Long story short, Dr. Poole misdiagnosed me with a UTI and it turned out it was my appendix. My appendix ruptured and it was the worse experience I have ever experienced in my life. Spent 7 days in the hospital to treat the infection that had spread and will need to get an appendectomy. Oh by the way, I went in with obvious symptoms apparently. I didn't have a fever but i had pain on my lower right side. DONT GO TO POOLE. She wasn't sure but sent me to get an sonogram which, when you think someone has an appendicitis you usually do a CT scan. Either way, if she had a doubt she is supposed to refer me to ER. read more

Exceeded my expectations as a walk-in clinic. I came in around 8:30 on a weekday morning and only one person was in line ahead of me. The whole staff is helpful and welcoming. Even with a big snow on the way, the treat and release opened for a few hours this morning. The staff was courteous and Dr. Hyman seemed to really care that I was feeling poorly. I didn't wait long (I often had longer waits at a PCP even with appointments in the past), then I was on my way to the pharmacy for strep ABX, since the rapid test was positive. Feeling crummy, but it was a good experience and I am so grateful for Dr. Hyman today! read more

My friend was told she had a broken foot after her x-ray results were in. The woman on the phone told her "it was really bad" and that "she needed to see someone immediately." The woman told my friend she was going to find an orthopedic surgeon for her and would call her back... So my friend is waiting anxiously to hear back from them... 2 hours pass and I told her to call the office again. They're closed. If you tell a patient that a broken foot is really bad and they need to see a specialist immediately and they'll call you right back with the information... You should probably call them back. read more

This place is great. The staff is very professional as well as courteous and friendly. I'm only a few blocks away, so I can go anytime and check if it's crowded or not. They have a cardiologist that comes in a couple of times a month and whose main office is also in Bay Ridge. Both Dr Poole and Dr Hyman are excellent doctors. Be prepared to wait if it's crowded but it's usually not too long. read more

Have been going to Dr. Poole for many years. As many reviews state she is "curt", but my interpetation is that she is to the point; no nonesense. Since this is a walk-in office, there are many patients at times. Considering that Dr. Poole makes the most out of your time. Unlike other posts, she did prescribe/refer me to a specialist freely over the years. I am glad to have a no nonsense M.D. like her. read more

First off dr poole is more concerned with whether you smoke, have blood pressure, and nags you to lose weight more than she cares about the current problem. On top of that she is incompetent. I have been sick for over a month and I have been there twice. I was prescribed medications both times, but they are useless and my symptoms have actually gotten WORSE. I would only recommend going here if you want to waste your time and money. read more
