They have canoes for rent, a campfire area, and they have a sign that says butterfly garden - though I didn't see any butterfly and didn't quite know where exactly that garden may be. He served in the House of Representatives and had a successful law practice in Miami where he practiced environmental law. It makes sense that a nature preserve would be named for him. The 30 acre parcel of land that makes up the park has three distinct habitats: pineland, tropical hardwood hammock, and drained Everglades slough. Hiking trails run through these areas. You do have to be careful while hiking, especially on the half mile Old Cuttler Hammock Nature Trail that is behind the nature center. This area was completely destroyed by Hurricane Andrew in 1992 but the canopy has since come back. There are a lot of limestone formations that are easy to trip on. Another of the trails leads to a canal where you canoe and fish while yet a different trail winds through a native tree arboretum. There is a nature center open daily from 10 to 4 with live animal exhibits and an 822 gallon freshwater aquarium. You can schedule tours and nature study programs at the nature center and rent kayaks. Picnic areas and rest rooms are available. Every Saturday night from 8 to 10 PM the Southern Cross Astro's meet in the parking lot near the main entrance. They have the largest public use telescope in Miami and the event is free. You might see a satellite, meteor, or the International Space Station. I hope to join them one evening.

The park is named after the Tamiami Trail, a historic road completed in 1928 that linked Florida's east and west coasts through the Everglades and Big Cypress Preserve. Tamiami Trail Park is often confused with the much larger 247 acre Tamiami Park located nearby. Although this park is much smaller, it is still a pleasant destination for an afternoon outing. In addition to the walking trail, which I enjoyed, there is a large open field for recreation and play. The park also features a covered red-and-white playground with climbing equipment, including wheelchair accessible and adaptive swings. The trees throughout the park are lovely and provide plenty of welcome shade. I especially enjoyed the blooming Royal Poinciana trees, which added vibrant color to the park. A sign in the park indicated that a dog park is scheduled to open in December of this year. This new amenity will be a wonderful addition for residents and dog owners in the community.

We found out a bit late that you are supposed to reserve the courts 24 hours in advance. Luckily the staff at the park was nice enough to let us use the courts until someone came with a reservation. The tennis courts here are super well maintained and there are a good amount. They are next to a long stretch of soccer fields and also near the playground. Parking can be a bit tough but if you luck out, you can park in the very busy parking lot. If not, you have to follow signage to park at a nearby school. When you park here, you have to walk through the school to get to the park. If you aren't too familiar with the area, it can be super confusing and may even deter you from going to the park. It would be super useful if they had signage from the school parking lot and throughout the school to help people find their way to the park. Overall, still a cute park to play sports at and bring your kids.

As a site of native americans, it went from a possible luxury condo complex to one of the most beautiful parks/walkways in the city. It's a fabulous spot to get steps in and soak in the sun while you hear the sounds of water and boats navigating the sea. The park is clean from what I saw and the citizens take proper care of it as they should. I happened to stop here from my morning stay at the Hyatt to get a nice glimpse of the views before heading to the ports for my ships sail. City is lucky to have this historic exhibit of history in this location and a nice park to complement it!

Discovered in 1998, the origins of the Miami Circle - an archaeological site in downtown Miami - remain one of the city's most intriguing mysteries. Known by a few different names - the Miami River Circle and Brickell Point, to name two - the Miami Circle was declared a National Historic Landmark in 2009, seven years after it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The circle was uncovered in early 1998, when property developer Michael Bauman commissioned a routine archaeological survey of the site. Part of a plan to demolish the existing apartment complex in order to build luxurious condos, the plans were brought to a screeching halt when surveyors discovered hundreds of strange holes beneath a layer of limestone. After further investigation, it was discovered that 24 of the largest holes formed a perfect circle with a whopping 38-foot diameter. Several artefacts were also unearthed - including human teeth and pieces of burnt wood - and radiocarbon dated at roughly 1,800-2,000 years old. According to the Miami Herald, the Miami Circle is perhaps the only evidence of a prehistoric structure in bedrock on the East Coast. Based on the results of the radiocarbon dating, along with the similarities in tools, it's believed that the circle might have been the work of the Tequesta Native American tribe. Some have speculated that the holes were once part of a structure, and most likely a building for ceremonial use. The Tequesta tribe is believed to have settled by the Miami River, occupying coastal terrain along the neighboring Atlantic areas. The tribe was made up of hunters and gatherers, who likely would have used shells and shark teeth for tools - both of which were unearthed during the excavation of the site. With the Miami Circle likely dating back over 1,000 years, it's remarkable that around 85% of its structure is still perfectly preserved. Today, visitors to Miami can head to the site and see the ring of limestone for themselves - although the holes are now covered with soil and grass for protection.

Thi park is open to the public and it is kept in top shape. their tennis courts were recently painted and fixed. The nets are in perfect condition and they even keep it lighted at night at no charge. They have a small kid area where they can play and swing. Overall its a small park but they have tennis and racquetball and it is completely open. I have been coming lately here and just picking up random tennis games when my official partner cant make it. They have a water fountain by the courts which offers really cold water. Reminds me of the ones at hospitals or science building, for some weird reason those always have freezing water. A little steps away there is a vending machine where you can help yourself to some cool sodas. For those tennis players take advantage of the park, there are even benches to sit and put your tennis gears.
