My kids attended TOL from the ages 2-5. My kids always looked forward to arriving at school in the morning. The teachers are very organized and prepared with their lesson plans. They would take pictures so we could see what activities they did in class. We have so many core memories, and even have made life long friendships. I cannot say enough things about this school. I am probably the most over protective, worrier of a mom you have met. To the point that, I wasn't sure if I was going to send my daughter to pre-school before Kindergarten. That was until I learned about Tree of Life and met the owner Kelley, If you are looking for a place where you feel comfortable and happy every day to send your child to school, this is the school for you. This was my daughter's first experience being away from me and after only one day going School she fell in love with it. My daughter woke up every morning excited to go to school and sad to leave. She would count down the days when school was closed and ask me to wake her up early when the break was over. While my daughter quickly learned how to spell her name and read, in my opinion, what I appreciated the most was the life skills she gained. My daughter was taught kindness, honesty, giving back to the less fortunate and how important it is to respect all cultures and people. The owner Kelley is truly a gift. We have now sent two of our kids to Tree of Life and plan to send our third (and maybe fourth ha). I can't recommend this place enough. We drive all the way from Walnut Creek every day to take our kids to this wonderful educational facility. Our girls love their teachers, love Kellie (the Director of the school), and all of their friends. The school fosters such a happy and welcoming environment for everyone, it's no wonder. My children have never cried or been upset going to school, only just sad to leave :) We've considered moving to a preschool closer to our home but candidly, I just can't find anything better than TOL. They send emails, newsletters and pictures so you know exactly what your child is doing each day and in general go above and beyond to create a safe and happy environment for the kiddos. Tree of Life is a rare find! I used to drive almost 30 minutes from Walnut Creek each way twice a day just so my youngest could attend this amazing school. I am so sad that she graduated this year and won't be attending as her experience was nothing short of super! If you're considering sending your child here don't think twice. My only regret is that I didn't find them sooner! The mix of play and learning is spot on and the staff is caring, kind and fun. The classrooms and outside area are great and CLEAN (rare find). Kelly the Director, Kerry, Jessica and Evelyn are engaging and fun. But, if you have any say in the matter, Ms. Leslie (teaches 3's and 4's) is the most incredible teacher I have ever come across in my many years of experience with 3 kids (incl. elementary, middle and high school). Her ability to engage and teach in a way where the kids don't even know they're learning is awe-inspiring. I wish I could be in her class myself! read more

Tree of Life Learning Center is a brand new Jewish-based preschool next to Sycamore Valley Park. We are Catholic and they are very inclusive of all faiths. Since I am a teacher, I felt comforted by the fact that the ED is also an educator and only interviewed candidates with bachelors degrees or masters degrees (it irked me that other local preschools only had certificated teachers and charged a lot more). After interviewing and observing three other preschools, we were impressed with the balance of structured and unstructured time throughout the day and the thoughtfulness and purpose of both play time and more directed learning time. At one school I observed, my child would have been with 20 other children for 4 hours a day doing free play, and they charged a lot more, whereas at TOL, the ratio is very small, and he gets lots of attention and interaction. I also like that the ED's children attend which made me feel confident that she only hired the best teachers. My son started shortly after his 2nd birthday, and had a seamless transition from daily care with his mom, grandma and nana to the very energetic and loving "Miss Shaina." The first day I picked him up, he didn't want to go home. They even texted me pictures throughout the day to assure me he was doing well, playing with others, eating, napping and smiling. He used to fight napping, and now naps for nearly two hours like clockwork every day. They serve healthy snacks and even make challah bread every Friday. All their play structures and toys are high quality and educational. They even learn some Hebrew. I also love their Montessori like philosophy without the Montessori price tag. When "shopping around" for day care for our two boys we were disappointed with many of the sites we toured... until we met Kelly and the Tree of Life staff. We were blown away by their philosophy and approach to pre-school (fun education mixed with a lot of outdoor play) and we've now been there for 3 years, going on our 4th! Because of various moves, our older son attended three different preschools - Tree of Life was the last, and best. Our younger son went there from the time he was 2 to just before starting Kindergarten. Both boys loved their time there, even though they have very different personalities and activity preferences. Our daughter just graduated from the Tree of Life Learning Center. She loved it....as did the rest of us. The school was the perfect blend of learning, play, and emotional growth. The kids are cherished and supported and challenged. There is an abundance of creative activities, both indoors and out. We felt like we were giving our child little gift every morning when we dropped her off and she ran in...excited to start her day. Everything is well executed. The teachers love the kids and the kids love em back. It is a Jewish school with a large number of non-Jewish and blended families. We loved the diversity that was present. We learned about the Jewish holidays and traditions along with those from so many other cultures....Indian, Chinese, African-American, etc. The director and staff foster a family atmosphere with gatherings throughout the year. My twins are just about to graduate from Tree of Life, and I couldn't be happier with their experience there over the past two years. What initially drew us to Tree of Life was their balanced approach to preschool education. They offer fantastic academic lessons that are fun and engaging for the kids, but they also know the importance of keeping young children active and allowing them to learn through play. They have an absolutely expansive outdoor space with so many things to keep the kids engaged. What I've come to truly appreciate at Tree of Life is that they are a very tight-knit community. They encourage and facilitate connections between the families and with the overall school community. Not only have my children been loved there, but additionally I am coming away from the experience with some life-long friends myself. To address some concerns of a previous Yelp reviewer: If you try to contact any school during the winter holiday, you will not get a response. Also, Tree of Life shares space with the Beth Chaim Congregation. If you simply show up and ring the bell, someone from their office will happily take your information to pass on to the preschool, but will not admit an unknown, expected adult back to the school area, for obvious safety reasons. If you contact the school when it is in session and make an appointment with the director, she is incredibly happy to invite you to come tour Tree of Life. (She is amazing, by the way.) read more

Wow, we miss this school so much! We recently moved to El Dorado Hills and can't find a school that holds a candle to Tree of Life. Our son Jackson loved and thrived at this school. Kelley the Director communicated so well with parents. I am in the education field too, so I am very choosey by nature of the trade.. We could not have asked for a better pre-school for our twins! We enrolled our kids at age 3 and they adore the teachers and the other students. Our kids are truly excited and happy to go to school every day. When they are not at school, they "play" school at home! All of the staff members are wonderful and loving. Since the first day of school, we noticed our kids becoming more independent, self-sufficient, and learning critical social skills, as well as the normal pre-school lessons (letters, numbers, weather, art, etc.). Picking a pre-school for your child can be one of the most difficult decisions a parent can make. It's their first experience in school and away from us, and we want to make sure that our little ones are in good hands. The minute my husband and I walked into Tree of Life and met Kelly, the director, we knew that this was going to be a wonderful place for our twins. We had already put down a deposit at another pre-school, but after one follow-up visit went horribly, we were in a panic, convinced that we needed to find an alternative school with only a few weeks until our move to Danville. We were driving by our soon to be neighborhood and saw the school and took a chance and walked in. Kelly was incredibly warm, professional, and knowledgeable, and took us on a tour of the school. We met the teachers, saw how the kids were learning and interacting in the classroom and very quickly fell in love. Today, our kids have deeply connected with their teacher, making wonderful friends, and thriving in the classroom both socially and academically. Having previously been attending a Montessori school in Berkeley, I was at first a bit concerned about how challenged they would be in this school, but I have been impressed - at 4 years of age, they are learning letters, reading, writing, math, science, history and more. I can't imagine a more nurturing and challenging environment and know that their transition to kindergarten next year is going to be flawless because of it! Tree of Life Learning Center has been a wonderful fit for our two daughters. It represents a happy balance of academic and play. Our oldest just completed her 3rd year at TOL, and our younger daughter just began her 3rd year. We have been absolutely thrilled with our experience. TOL is accepting of everyone regardless of faith. One of the things that drew us to Tree of Life is the amazing outdoor space. We love that our girls can run around to their hearts content, and that the staff utilizes the open space aand values outdoor time. The Director, Kelley, is friendly, approachable, and responsive. She has a great rapport with her teachers and she is actively involved in making sure the school is operating efficiently and effectively. Not to mention she is a kind and loving person. It is not uncommon for our girls to run to her when they see her because she offers them the biggest bear hug. Kelley has done a fabulous job of hiring and maintaining the very best staff to care for our children. It does not matter which teacher your child is assigned to because they are all GREAT! Kelley has done a great job of instilling in her teachers a TEAM approach. The teachers work very closely together and operate like a tight-knit family, which in turn greatly benefits our children. One of the things we wanted most in a preschool was caring and loving teachers. And I can confidently state that the teachers truly love ALL of the children at TOL, not just the children assigned to their classroom. We love the weekly classroom newsletters from the teachers and the monthly newsletters from the Director. When our daughters were in the 2's room, we remember appreciating the daily report of our child. This consistent communication greatly helps to provide such insight into what a typical day looks like for our children, and the activities that our children are engaged in throughout the week. The newsletters always include pictures from the week, and in some cases videos of our children learning and playing. The teachers really go the extra mile to make each child feel special and important. And this goes beyond the hellos and hugs they offer each day - these teachers want to get to know their students and guide and nurture them through these very important years. read more

Tree of Life has been an amazing experience for my son. He started in their "Green Room" for 2 yr olds and I felt totally comfortable and confident that my child was loved and cared for throughout the day. My son learned songs, letters, numbers, and much more while having a great time. One thing I loved was that the teachers spent a lot of time cooking with the kids. My son came home excitedly telling me about baked pizzas, challah, cookies, yogurt parfaits, graham cracker traffic lights and s'mores (usually tied into the letter or theme of the week)! This is our second year at tree of life and we have been extremely happy there. The teachers are the best of the best. You can tell they have a passion for teaching. They are wonderful people and loving to our family and our 2 children. The director, Kelley is very supportive and caring. There is a good sense of community. I do not write reviews...EVER...I think this is actually my first time...but I feel compelled to share our experience at Tree of Life (TOL) because first I know how stressful it is to find good quality care for your child and second this facility and its staff are hands down the best educators our family has ever had the opportunity to work with and everyone should know it! Let me start by sharing I have 3 kids (ages 9,7,4) and we've been to at least 6 different preschools over the years with the kids as we've relocated. We've seen the good the bad and the ugly and TOL is THE BEST! The teaching staff is dedicated, patient, passionate, educated and they are excellent communicators. The admin staff (Kelley) and her teachers (special shout out to Ms. Meghan who ROCKS) created an environment that is so welcoming and full of love that the kids literally race to get in the door (seriously my son raced me every morning). I love the core values they taught the kids (respect, kindness, patience, thoughtfulness, sharing, caring and more) that was interwoven with a phenomenal curriculum based in phonics. My son was excited to share what he learned each day. He loved the leadership opportunities provided to him too (leader of the day). The curriculum included math, language, science, arts, special visitors (from the community) throughout the year and more. My son was so incredibly stimulated every day - I'm actually worried that kindergarten might not be as challenging as what these amazing teachers have worked so hard to provide each day!! Did I mention my 4-year old is READING...yes reading early reader books and it's because of all the time and care they spent working with him! They really inspired him to keep reaching higher and higher and as he excelled they would challenge him in new ways - asking for my input along the way - so he could continue to grow. Seriously they would come to me with new creative ideas on how to specialize his education; he thrived and loved it. He adores all of his teachers; it's a really special bond; it's obvious how much each teacher sincerely loves each child. I've begged for an after kinder program but sadly those things take time and my little guy would likely be on to 1st or 2nd grade before that process would be complete. If you are fortunate enough to live/work in the area I would strongly recommend sending your child to TOL; you'll be so thrilled that you did. I cannot recommend this school enough. After looking at about 10 preschools it was an easy decision to choose Tree of Life for our twin boys. That was 2 years ago. The director, Kelley, focuses on a low student to teacher ratio, hiring qualified teachers, and keeping learning fun. The classrooms are clean and the playground is new. The kids spend a lot of time outside which they love. The teachers are amazing. They are passionate about the kids and what they do. It is definitely a school and not just a daycare. I'm constantly amazed by what my kids are learning and capable of doing. But the most important part is that they keep it all fun. My boys love going to school here. I cannot say nice enough things about this school and the teachers at Tree of Life! Our daughter just graduated and I cried saying goodbye! We took our daughter to another preschool for about 2 years and while it was a fine school, neither my daughter nor myself were in love with it. She never looked forward to going to school and I felt something was missing, so I went in search of another preschool. I knew almost immediately after meeting Kelly, the owner/director, but the true deal sealer was when she explained their main philosophy at the school: She explained that their job was to teach and help their kids to become good little people so that they can grow up to be good big people. Really to me, it is that simple and if only everyone did this!!! This is a Jewish preschool but they don't focus on Judaism as a religion. They focus on the principals of being kind to all, respecting your elders, and the importance of family. Oh yeah and they have amazing academics programs as well. My daughter would come home and amaze me with what she learned that day. She is leaps and bounds ahead of some of her peers that go to other schools. She knows everything required for kindergarten and about 100x more! She can count to 100+, knows and can write all letters (upper and lowercase) and her handwriting is beautiful. She knows tons of sight words, shapes, colors, fine and gross motor skills are well above average, and she loves learning! The teachers there genuinely love what they do and are so incredible with the kids and also (which was important to me) with the parents as well. They were always communicative and I always felt like I knew exactly what was going on with my child and her day while I was away from her. One of her teachers pulled me aside one day because she noticed my daughter was a little quieter than usual for a few days and asked if I had noticed the same thing. It was so nice to know she was paying that close of attention to my child!! I was truly sad when she graduated but it was so comforting to see that my daughter didn't bat an eyelash when she walked into her kindergarten classroom. She walked in like she had been there for years. Not a tear or shred of nervousness. I like to think it's due to our awesome parenting and she's just a super star, well adjusted kid but I KNOW it has so much to do with her year and a half at Tree of Life and all that they did to prepare her for Kindergarten and beyond. Picking a preschool for your child is one of the most difficult things a parent has to do. Luckily, we picked the right one. Two years ago we enrolled our children in the Tree of Life Learning Center and it was the best decision we ever made. The school, and it's amazing teachers, do a wonderful job of blending creative activities that encourage learning along with playful activities that grow social skills. This combination, along with so many other great things there are too many to mention, allowed our kids to excel and be more than ready for kindergarten. The director Kelley meticulously screens all teachers and makes sure they are extremely qualified before she allows them to become teachers. I highly recommend this school to everyone who asks me where I sent my kids, and that says a lot, because I don't recommend anything to anyone unless I feel like it is the best. read more
