My family had a great experience at BHM. We had two children enrolled, one in the toddler class and one in Pre-K. The Montessori approach at this school is nicely implemented, with a good balance of structure and play integrated throughout the day. There is a strong academic foundation while still allowing children the freedom to explore their creativity, build independence, and develop a genuine love of learning. The directors, teachers and staff are attentive and highly invested in each child's growth and development. In addition to academics, BHM offers an impressive variety of extracurricular opportunities, including sports, dance, art (and many more), which enrich the overall experience. Their curriculum also does a wonderful job fostering multicultural awareness which we really appreciated. In addition, the facilities and play spaces were consistently clean, well maintained and organized, which gave us great peace of mind every day. We saw tremendous growth in both of our children in the time they spent at BHM. They felt happy, supported and excited to learn every day. My daughter attended Blackhawk Montessori from February 2025 - August 2025. We had to choose a school quickly due to a short-notice move, and I appreciated that this school was quieter than others we toured (my daughter was sensitive to loud noise) and that it was close to our rental. During the first month, the directors consistently told us at drop-off that she was doing well. However, about a month in, we received a note in her backpack from a classroom teacher indicating that she had been struggling with distraction and listening since the beginning. I wish we had been given more honest and timely feedback from the start from the directors, as that mismatch felt misleading. At a formal parent-teacher conference two months in, we were encouraged to have her assessed for support through SRVUSD, as they felt she wouldn't be successful in an academic environment without extra help. We took this seriously and ultimately enrolled her in TK in our school district starting August 2025, where she underwent a full 60-day assessment. The results showed no learning concerns, and her TK teachers report that she's doing very well and is easily redirected when distracted. We had similar positive feedback from the after-school childcare team. After this experience, I spoke with three other moms that were in my daughter's Blackhawk Montessori classroom and learned their children had also received feedback around concerns with focus, excessive talking, or other similar behaviors. I think the school has expectations that may not align with typical child development, which can lead to excessive negative attention. That said, there were aspects I appreciated: - I liked Ms. Tania, one of the two main teachers in my daughter's pre-K classroom. She seemed balanced and firm, while also kind. My daughter liked her. - The school offered several paid enrichment programs (gymnastics, singing, soccer, dance, etc.), which my daughter consistently looked forward to. - As a full-time working single mom, I appreciated the longer care hours offered. There were also significant concerns: - The concerns with transparency and unrealistic expectations/negative attention noted earlier in the review. - My daughter reported that the other main pre-K teacher was "mean," especially toward the end of her time there when that teacher ran the smaller second summer session. Even nearly five months after leaving Blackhawk Montessori, my daughter still mentions that teacher and says she never wants to return, which is upsetting. - In retrospect, the six-hour school day (before childcare) was too long for her. She's done much better with the 3.5-hour school days that SRVUSD offers for TK/K kids. Overall, I've learned that my child does best in a warmer, more teacher-led environment. While Blackhawk Montessori had some positives, it was not a good fit for her, and she has done significantly better in both the schools she attended before and after her time here. read more

Yes, here I am again as I gently chat stop bragging about this school! Both of my kids have gone to Blackhawk Montessori, and I honestly can't say enough good things about it. My daughter is there now and thriving, and now that my son has moved on to elementary school, I'm realizing even more how special this place really is. The teachers are caring, patient, and truly know how to connect with kids. The environment is calm, organized, and set up in a way that helps them grow both academically and emotionally. I always felt like my children were seen, supported, and challenged in the best possible way. My son has been a student in Blackhawk Montessori for 4 years. He thrives in the school and is always eager to learn new things. He also became a boy with good manners. I would say the school is highly academic, providing children with a strong foundation of knowledge and gradually building upon it day by day. We signed up for Blackhawk Montessori during their registration time in January/Feb for their fall school year. All I say is, if there is any uncertainty due to life circumstances, do not register and pay the first month. They will not refund no matter what. That's what happened to us. Life happens and we ended up moving out of the area and we provided proof but yet they showed no understanding and would not refund. We had a very good experience with Blackhawk Montessori. Both directors Naveeda and Naureen are very involved with the school. We had an equally amazing teacher in Ms. Tina and Ms. Tanu. We felt that our son learned quite a lot during his stay at Blackhawk. Unfortunately we had to take him out due to logistics. We were really sad to pull him out. The additional yoga lessons, music and language lessons are something we really miss now. We didn't have to take him to any additional classes outside school time because of that. The school is well run by Ms Naureen & Ms Naveeda. Both my kids went to Blackhawk Montessori, from 2021-24. This schools curriculum, routine and academic teachings helped my kids learn good habits. School offers classes like music, chess, stem and soccer. They learnt to thrive in group settings made friends that joined them later at public schools. As parents we made many friends throughout our kids enrollment years. These friendships have lasted us beyond Montessori. The school is conveniently located, has ample parking for pick and drop offs. First I don't normally do reviews but the BH admin and teachers have been kindly looking after, teaching my kids for the past few years. Easy drop off/pick up app at a secure building. Structured program but play based. Naureen and Naveeda are super responsive, learned so much ABCs and 123s, art/music/science, how to be respectful of others, etc etc. There are lot of touch points for parents to connect w class (moms night, parent teacher confs) and tenured teachers, as well as flex childcare options. I also liked how they didn't have live stream of the kids, kids should learn in peace these days and they shared photos and newsletters regularly. My kids loved it and easily met friends so it was both academic, socially fun, clean and nice playground...we are sad to leave! read more

My son and I had a fairly traumatic experience at this school. Similar to the experience of another mom on this platform, my son was also afraid to go to school and continues to have PTSD from school-like settings to this day. He is starting to heal while attending classes from another educator in San Ramon and we are slowly working him through being comfortable with teachers again. My son is 3.5 and was enrolled on and off through COVID as the numbers spiked, so he, like others his age had not been socialized as they would without the pandemic. I felt the school lacked compassion, resources, depth and knowledge to identify triggers in a small toddler and work with the parents to resolve. I did not have direct access to the teachers, everything had to funnel through the directors which made communication, trust and relationship-building extremely difficult. I had multiple breakdowns after my parent teacher conference after just 4 days of my son being enrolled. I felt a lack of compassion for pandemic kids and their parents at this school. And to be honest this experience put me off the Montessori method all together. read more

Both of my kids went through Blackhawk Montessori so we spent around 6 years with this school, and we have nothing but great things to say about the whole school. They are not only focused on education but also on the overall growth of a child. This was one of the few places where I felt safe sending my kids during tough times, and all credit goes to the directors. My older child was in Ms. Naveeda's class, and we were disappointed to learn that she would be taking up more school administrative responsibilities, hence wouldn't be able to teach. However, all the other teachers, Ms. Rahana, Ms. Manisha, Ms. Adeela, and Ms. Shirley, filled the gap very well. I cannot thank Ms. Naureen and Ms. Naveeda enough. We live in Lafayette, and it takes us 2 hours every day on the road to drop off our daughter and to pick her up. Despite the distance and the effort, we are happy with our decision to enroll our daughter at BHM. BHM has a well thought out curriculum that prepares kids well for elementary school. Ms. Naveeda and Ms. Naureen are professional, responsive and kind. The teachers are experienced and passionate about child education, and they care equally about students' characters/personalities and their skills/abilities. BHM's high quality caring and education is shone through their happy and sociable kids. Our daughter is now in her year 2 with BHM, she's developing good habits as well as getting rid of bad ones. TV and electronic gadgets are no longer her night time favorites. In their places now are books, puzzles, toys, talking, and silly games. She's learning to understand complex logics, to explain herself, to resolve conflicts, and most importantly, to care for others. We are very happy with her development so far. A wonderful authentic Montessori program for 2-6 year olds. Our 3 and 5 year old have attended BHM for almost a year now and we could not be happier. Administration: business owned by 2 women of color with decades of montessori experience between them. school is run very professionally with clear and constant communication to parents via email, monthly newsletter and photo albums for each class sent to parents of that classroom. One off situations communicated via a mobile app or a phone call if it pertains to your child directly. Instruction: All the main guides are AMS or AMI trained, and are super attentive to the children, making sure they are thriving throughout the year. My 5 year old went from only knowing capital letters from his previous non-montessori school to full on reading in 5 months under his teacher's supervision. He's currently able to solve 4 digit by 2 digit division (4350/ 15), as well as adding fractions in math. There is also a Spanish and music program that's included in the tuition. You have the option of signing up for other programs for an additional cost (like chess class and soccer). The student body is racially diverse, the parents are all very sweet and welcoming, and we feel very fortunate to be part of the BHM community. read more

After touring a lot of daycares/schools in the san ramon/danville area for a 20month toddler we choose BHM and we are happy that we did. The facility is new, clean, bright and the classrooms are big. My son attended BHM in the 18months-2yrs old classroom and I know he loved it. My son came home always happy! All the other teachers in this classroom are also very attentive and dedicated. They would always update me as to what in-class activities they did or what went on in the playground. Ms.Nette is amazing with the children in this classroom! Absolutely horrible experience. My three year old daughter was AFRAID to go to pre-school in the 5-7 days leading up to my dis-enrolling her. I talked through all of it with our pediatrician, who actually asked whether the school / teacher understand children? Fair question. In our experience, if your child looks different from the others it will also factor into how this school treats them. Additionally, I spoke to another Montessori pre-school in the area and learned that they take a completely different approach to children transitioning into pre-school. Of course this other Montessori does not have availability. The aged old lesson rings true -- if in a time when most preschools don't have availability but one does there is a reason. Unfortunately, I found this out the hard way. On a positive note, this school was just to fill in the gap before my daughter starts at her long-term school in the Fall so hopefully the damage BHM did to my child will quickly be forgotten.
