A jacaranda and a grapefruit tree in my yard were getting huge and messy. We've had them trimmed by gardeners in the past, but it's never worked out well. We decided to find an arborist. Juan Carlos at Treescape is the best there is. See my Before/After photos. I had a neighbor's massive Ficus shedding berries and leaves all year round on my patio. Fully 70% was hanging over the fence and it's several stories high. I wanted it cut back ALL the way to the fence line. Called at least 6 or 7 top rated companies for in-person quotes. Juan not only gave me a rock bottom price, that both the neighbor and I could afford, he ALSO told me if we cut it right then (July) it would likely die from heat stroke and the stress of a major trimming. Nobody else told me that! Obviously I don't want to murder a tree. So we scheduled for cooler weather 5 months later - and despite that long wait, Juan did NOT raise his quote which was great. Most contractors would stick you for that. The job he did was absolutely MASSIVE and EXACTLY what I wanted. No more "tree trash" raining down on me! I am delighted! Please note that I did NOT ask (or care) for this to be "pretty". It could not have been no matter what given the enormous size of the tree trunks to be removed. I asked for these limbs to be GONE! And I am THRILLED with the outcome! Juan is a great guy to deal with; super pleasant. He also cleaned up afterwards very nicely. He even came back the NEXT day with a taller pole to get the very tallest branches. Most contractors would just shrug and say "I don't have that tall of a pole so I can't get those" - NOT Juan. (Note: My After picture is before the final minor work was done but you have a clear idea how huge the job was.) Really there's nothing more to say except: hire him. You will NOT regret it. Juan Carlos trimmed our trees again this year. There are 4 trees including an olive, a pepper and two mesquites all of which are over 15 years old. He is a real artist in the way he approaches tree trimming, meaning that he is not a butcher who just buzz cuts the trees. He trims everything basically by hand with NO chainsaws. When he is done, the trees are "opened up", but retain the shape and basic look. He is punctual, showing up on time if not early for both quoting the job and for the actual trimming. He does an outstanding job of cleaning up after the trimming. This is the second year we've hired Juan Carlos and will continue to do so. read more

Alonso is a superstar. The dessert is full of service providers that overcharge and don't measure up when it come to the actual work. I had to rent my house out due to some unfortunate circumstances. When I needed to have trees trimmed I called out several companies for estimates. When they found out that the house tenant occupied well I received bids that were outrageous. Not only was the bid from Treescape reasonable, they delivered in terms of quality. Alonso was responsive, courteous, and respectful. Al came by to give me a quote to trim a tree for us. I also asked about a large shrub. He quoted a good price and was able to do the work right away. He also looked at our irrigation emitters and said we had the wrong ones for the trees, and that our gravel and weed barrier was impeding the ability of the water to the roots. I'm going to have him come next week to create space around the trees (we have another in front that can't be trimmed until fall), and hopefully review all the emitters. read more

I don't typically write reviews on Yelp, Open Table, or other sites, but I feel compelled to write a review acknowledging Alonso's skills, service, knowledge, friendliness, and cost. We first contacted him to prune a young Palo Verde tree to keep it small and "artistic" looking. Not only did he immediately understand what we wanted, he did a wonderful job in pruning it. We then talked to him about changing out some of the plants/young trees in our yard for other more suitable and dramatic looking plants. He is very knowledgeable and very patient in explaining types of plants, how they grow, how they can be pruned, etc. Plus, he's just a really nice person.
