They are a great small town, county shelter that takes good care of homeless dogs and cats. Recently they got some publicity for one of their residents who had been living in the shelter for 11 years. Wiggles had a tumor that was unoperateable, but 5 A's kept her and loved her. Finally after appearing on a local news channel, she found her forever home for her senior years. Being new to the Alton community, I stopped by to see what I could do or donate to help them with their cause and was impressed with the cleanliness of the shelter. I was also impressed with the friendliness and love I saw the staff and volunteers showing the resident animals. It was very muddy and she helped us get there. I had called ahead and asked if they had puppies. She said yes and was expecting us. We looked at the puppies, and were given ample information about eating habits, local vets, and so on. We ended up adopting the puppy and she was very kind throughout. I highly recommend this shelter. Also, the price to adopt is good too.

They follow appropriate procedures for avoiding any cross contamination, required vetting, and administering meds when needed. You can tell the employees here truly do care and love for the animals like they're their own. We came in "just to look" and walked away with our baby within 45 minutes. The cat house is amazing, and I loved how many cats were able to free roam around the offices and large room. So, I decided to start volunteering. In the couple of weeks I've been volunteering, I've been impressed with the staff. They work so hard and are so helpful to anyone who comes in. They genuinely care about the work they do and every single fur ball they meet. The place is so clean without having that whole medicinal and cold vibe you see in some shelters. The cats are generally happy and have all sorts of enrichment opportunities at their disposal. Five Acres also does a ton of services for the community. There's an entire area and staff dedicated solely to helping pet owners in need. That's awesome for anyone struggling to get back on their feet.

If I was planning to adopt a cat, I would definitely choose The Cat Network.

Is it customary for a sick, ungroomed dog to be put up for adoption? I only ask because that's what…read morehappened to us. Last Thursday, my family adopted a dog named Finn. Finn was unwashed, had matted hair, a wound on his head, smelled, and apparently was sick. Finn had a cough and serious nasal congestion, so much so that there would be puddles of mucus left over from where he was laying. After a visit from our vet and a $750 bill, Finn was diagnosed with pneumonia. Seems they plucked Finn from off the streets, snip-snipped him, and then put him for adoption, knowing he was sick. Am I angry? YES!!! This poor dog was suffering and they (seems like) knowingly sold him. They couldn't even bother to give him a bath! We paid the $255 adoption fee and the vet bill because Finn is awesome and deserves to be treated, but we will never adopt another pet from Partners for Pets again.
