The snow was so good over the weekend at Crystal that we wanted to keep skiing so we decided to stop for a night at treetops and take the kids skiing for a day or two. It was a great choice! This was a Tuesday night in February, so we were able to get a very good price on a double queen suite. Room was clean, comfortable and no issues. We had planned to go skiing Tuesday evening but ended up at the pool with our kids. The main lodge has a decent size pool that starts indoors and continues outdoors. There is an indoor hot tub and an outdoor hot tub. Also there are two Saunas. The kids were enjoying themselves so much we didn't even get to go skiing! On Wednesday we got breakfast at the top of the hill. We have eaten here before and it's always been good. After breakfast we got our gear and headed to the slopes. Treetops isn't a huge hill, but for the value midweek and 3 lifts, it's was a great time. We got started right at 10am and skied until about 4pm before heading home. There was almost no traffic and it was non stop skiing. The kids loved it as well and really enjoyed the beginners terrain park they built. read more

A friend and I came in for the spa - it was a good "up north" style spa experience. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming, they have a nice lounge area and clean locker rooms, and you get access to the resort pool, hot tub, sauna and steam room. The pool area was fairly clean with just a little bit of salt on the floor from people's shoes/boots. I had on flip flops, so it was ok. I enjoyed the hot tub, though it's highly chlorinated, and my favorite part was the steam room. That was very nice. They provide robes, flip flops and towels. We got scalp massages and Dazzle Dry manicures and both services were great. I especially enjoyed Emily who did my nails; she was skilled and quite pleasant to talk to. The wax dip is amazing and this Dazzle Dry polish is already lasting so much longer than regular polish. Love it. They also had really cute clothing in the lounge area - I was quite tempted by a couple of things. I would for sure return. It was such a lovely day after skiing. read more

Rated a two only because the staff was always helpful and friendly...if not for that, this would have been a one star experience. We came here for two nights while attending a workshop. We had reserved a king room - and much to my dismay, it was on the first floor. Maybe it was the type of king room that we reserved (king with a mini fridge and microwave). I was told that the type of room was only available on the first floor and I was disappointed cuz I'm a light sleeper and asked if high traffic areas were above me. I was given a vague answer and was offered ear plugs and sound machine. Hmm, this doesn't feel good. We got to the room and it was a decent sized room! The shower stall was incredibly large (more than enough room for two). Was not a fan of the carpeted area in the sink area though. We went to sleep and all was well until about 6am when I heard what I thought was the person above us walking around. No...it was folks walking in the hallway on the floor above us. Carts being pushed by staff sounded very loud. People with rolling bags. Holy cow...well, who needs an alarm clock when you have that? The next morning was just as bad...Never heard folks in the surrounding rooms but the hallway traffic noise was insane. We wound up leaving the workshop a little early that day cuz we were exhausted from being woke up early both mornings from the noise. If there is ever a workshop here again, we will come to it BUT will not stay on site...we will rent a hotel room elsewhere. As for the food at the workshop, there was always enough food and the staff refilled the trays. But they had a hard time keeping it warm. Both mornings, the hashbrowns were luke warm, even when I scooped them from the bottom. The pancakes were somehow crispy and cold. The ground beef in the mexican bar was not drained properly cuz once I made two soft tacos with them, they dripped an oily mess from the while holding them. read more

The rooms in particular and the hotel in general were tired. The furniture looks like it had not been updated at all since 1960s and it's very very beat up. We originally were putting in a room right below the bar. At about 10 o'clock I called and they did move us But then outside were a bunch of drunk golfers. We went up to the restaurant and it was OK. Nothing spectacular nothing memorable. The staff was very polite. I'll be at. I only saw one person when we checked in. The grounds are beat up also. We would not recommend staying here read more

I wish I were allowed more characters to share what was a horrible stay at Treetops this last weekend. I felt as if we were staying in a scary motel when we were in our room. We paid more than $2100 for this 4-day trip and were looking forward to a relaxing and fun time up-north. We also assumed that for the money spent, we would have a clean room, clean facilities, adequate housekeeping and daily clean towels at a minimum. Problems included: Corroded surfaces in both pools, Expired EGLE license, Women's shower stall had broken/pushed in tile in coving strip & dirty shower pan, Loose wire on sink attachment, not properly attached, No soap in dispenser, Corroded grab bars, towel dispenser, Corroded metal door plates, handles, stall supports, door damaged, Ceiling peeling/falling into the pool, Paint in pool peeling - steps & bottom, Air vents caked with dust Corroding metal pieces on pool, hot tub & wooden boxes, Cracked tiles on floor near drains, Dirty drains & pool deck Stains around water perimeter in hot tub and on seats near hot tub wall, Broken stucco on wall near hot tub The room: Filthy and unrestretched carpeting, Smears on wall above bed, Lampshade on desk table broken & sharp, All room lamps and lampshades are out of square and cannot be adjusted Missing finishing rings on sprinkler heads in shower room and sink area, Scraped and marked dresser top, Stained and dirty desk chair seat, Dirty sofa & loveseat arms, Stain/discolored spots on couch & loveseat cushions, Cracked Formica on kitchenette edges, Cracked floor tile,Broken window curtain - missing eyelets to hang correctly, leaky window,Coffee table leg crooked and had to be tightened by guest, Bathroom door scuffed and dirty, Mold in shower near glass Activities:Broken binding on snowshoe (reported when turned in). I ended up tying it on to use since we were already at the trail rather than driving back to exchange it., a ski instructor caused a young girl (Nora probably age 6) to cry and left her slumped down at the fence, We wanted to cross country ski but no communication about renting skis was provided and wasn't included in our package despite requesting information on skiing when I made the reservation. Poor communication through the registration process, Confirmation email doesn't itemize what is included, Separate email confirmations for each activity is excessive and detracts from the purpose of a relaxing vacation, Wrong times scheduled for activities, Had to ask for a summary of activities which is a better overall guide to the stay, communications/print materials were too vague; for example "meet at the bottom of the ski hill", Lodge staff were unaware of how to get to ice skating and whether there was seating/skating assistance equipment.No map was provided at check in 2/19 so we were unaware that there was another pool (at the Inn), outdoor hot tub or ice skating. Food & Beverage: Food quality was disappointing with many over-processed meals and there were few vegetarian and no vegan offerings, Breakfast buffet had fewer offerings than typical chain hotel free breakfasts., On our last night the Legends restaurant reported that our entree dinner vouchers would only cover half of the steak dinners (after we had been served and dined). When I asked the waitress to check as we had been having such a difficult stay she went out of her way to make it right., We wanted to order pizza Friday night which was on the Legends menu, but were informed that it was only served in the Sports Bar on the weekends so even after being seated and served beverages we had to go back outside and go to the Sport Bar to order pizza Ordinary breakfast beverages were Al a carte rather than included in the breakfast voucher (milk/juice), Being charged for milk to go with tea seems a cheap way to save money and implies that margins are too thin I wish I could upload all the images of the damage, disrepair, and unhygienic conditions that my family experienced at Treetops, but there isn't enough room either in my review or in the attachments to include everything... read more

We booked for Skiing weekend just us. Called and they were super helpful being able to get everything booked for what we needed. Hills were groomed in the morning and ready to go at opening time. We just walked from our rooms at top of the hill and skied right down. Hills were not crazy busy nor a super long wait to get on chair lift. We found several slopes that we really enjoyed. Food department in the restaurants was good but service was hit n miss. Some of the items they had to keep checking to see if they had. We had a blast. Mini fridge in the room with double sinks and bar sink with cupboards for food you might have brought. Hot tub looked like it needed to be updated. Candy bar is a little overrated. Candy in jars on a bar. Also had shuttle rides every 15 minutes to take you around. read more

We very much enjoyed our stay here for one day (early check in) and night. The receptionist at the hotel front lobby was very friendly and also explained in great detail all the directions we needed to our room, pool (didn't use) and grill on the hill that we went for. This weekend, I went skiing at Treetops Ski resort. It was an experience to remember, and so that you can know more about my trip I am writing down a report on what happened. Treetops was super fun and housed many awesome ski trails along with a café and dining area. This resort also had a rustic feel to it, as it didn't have scanners on the lifts and was a bit smaller because it only had three lifts. The café was named the halfway café, and served a variety of wonderful meals and desserts, including a tasty grilled cheese, french fries, and pizza to name a few mains, and extremely delicious hot chocolate (which was a bit too hot for my tastes) cold water and coffee for drinks. Of course we needed desserts, and they happened to serve plenty, like ice cream, candy bars, and pure candy by the pound! The trails were super fun, and good for all skill levels, as they had many easy greens and blues for beginners, including a bunny slope for the people just starting to learn how to ski along with harder blues like money pit and Al's bypass and easy blacks like Hemlock Hollow for intermediate skiers. For experts they had harder blacks like lookout and even a single double black dubbed simply "The glades" which I loved, as it was so fun to get of the groomed slopes and weave between the trees. For the people who find thrill in the jumps and pipes, Treetops has a great terrain park, which was shorter than some that I have seen but not too small making it a great size for thrill seekers of all ages. The only problem with the terrain park was that it was directly below the snow machines which made it very hard to see where you were going and caused me to be super cold, as snow kept getting in to my jacket! The parking was good, as Treetops had a place were you could park and ski straight down the mountain, but the bottom parking was very risky, as the area leading to it had many sharp turns and steep hills and could be icy, and nobody wants to fishtail into a tree, so we had to go extremely slowly in order to have good enough traction. read more

Terrible experience. We booked for two nights, and had to leave one day early because of a family emergency to help elderly relatives in the Florida hurricane. Treetops would not give us our money back for the one night we could not stay. They also dI'd not give us money back for the Golf that I did not get to play that day. I was kept up two nights past 2:30 AM by the other guests. First of all, the sports bar was a great break from skiing. They had a fantastic beer selection and the service was top notch. Diawn was friendly, professional and informative helping us make selections. The skiing was, well, Michigan skiing. It was very pretty and the slopes were well groomed. Playing golf at a premier course in the northern part of Michigan's Lower Peninsula is always an awesome time. However, you've got to watch the weather once you get into the first week of October....low of 38 degrees and high of 48! We stayed at the Treetops Lodge where we got a very attractive 2-day golf package deal with a couple of rounds of golf (in your winter parka!) and a $50 food credit in their restaurant. We found the golf courses to be everything it is billed to be...clearly one of the most spectacular layouts anywhere with 5 great golf courses spread across two locations 4 miles apart. The views, especially in early Fall, across the hills and valleys are incredible. The vertical drops and elevated tees are breathtaking. 5-stars for the golf courses...even at early October temperatures. The Treetops Lodge however, was disappointing and wouldn't rate more than 2 or 3 stars anywhere on the planet. The Lodge was dated in every respect even had its flat screen TV on the wrong wall which made it difficult to watch from bed...without getting a stiff neck...2-stars. Hunter's Grille,the resort's main dining room, fell somewhere in between. My wife raved about the Fresh Spinach Salad with Hot Bacon Dressing. My Prime Rib was right there as well. The service however, was harried, inattentive and not what I was expecting at Treetops. Obviously, this is not high season at Treetops Resort and you are not going to get a July experience in October. Nevertheless, the fresh air of "Up-North" is always intoxicating and the golf doesn't get much better anywhere in the country. read more

If you like 6 hour rounds because they pack you in like fish in a barrel and do NOTHING to monitor pace of play then this is the place for you! After years of making the 3 1/2 hour drive to enjoy the courses things have changed. They now have an unapologetic staff that only care about revenue and could give a rip that you are forced to eat a fast food dinner because most of the restaurants close at 9:00 and you have been stuck on the course with 4 to 5 groups per hole. I left a voicemail to address my concerns and they didn't even bother to call me back. I won't be back and quite frankly I don't think they care!. read more

Played the "Masterpiece" July 11, 2020. Took my 15 year old son, for the first time, hoping he would have the same great experience on a beautiful course as I have had in the past.... But the course was in horrific shape; Tee Boxes were beat to hades, barely any grass. The fairways were burnt out or diseased in large swaths... and the greens...? The same, and even worse, had been aerated, probably trying to save them, but the aeration holes were filled with sand and basically unputtable. All that might have been ok... if we didn't have to pay a premium price for it as well. Treetops better get its course in shape or Michigan will lose a jewel.. read more

This is a review for the ski school which is a one star. The resort is a four star so we gave a generous overall rating of three star. Be warned if you put your young child in this ski school, the lead instructor admitted they do not keep track OF YOUR CHILD! Our nine-year-old grandson probably misunderstood the instructor's direction that they were done with the first 30 minutes of his 90-minute lesson, and the instructor moved on to a different part of the hill without him. Our grandson thought he was done, and skied by himself for an hour. The lead instructor admitted they will not do headcounts, and it is the parents' responsibility to watch their children during the lesson not the ski school's responsibility. Fortunately, we trained our grandson well and he skied in the same area until we showed up an hour later. Be sure to train your child on safety or they may not be there when you get back. read more

Bought a $900 weekend golf package, (three night, three rounds of golf) drove 6 hours to the lodge, found out we were not in the lodge but in a disgusting "chalet". The room had no working lights, was filthy and moldy, was sandwiched between two other rooms so there was very little light from the one small window (so no view at all) YUCK! We asked to be moved and were told it would be an up charge of $75 to $300 depending on the room. The front desk staff admitted that they knew the chalet was disgusting. We had no choice but to pay extra for an OK room in the lodge. I feel like this was bait and switch. I am revising my review from one star to three. All of the above is true, but the golf and restaurant were great! I wish we had not had such a bad experience with the lodging. read more

We played the signature course, it was very scenic and the layout was awesome. We showed up at the address listed on our booking email, well it was the wrong address, tried calling the clubhouse to get assistance and the first number was disconnected, nobody would answer the second number so when you go here expect no assistance. When we asked someone in the parking lot where the course is located they said 5 miles away. To top off the experience when we arrived at the correct location the club pro was rude and acted like it was our fault they directed us to the wrong location. Also, they stop food and beverage service at 5:00. If you decide to play here just be prepared for horrible customer service. read more

A large group of us did the Skiable Feast at Treetops and paid a considerable amount of money. It was extremely disappointing. We started out the day by getting yelled at by the woman in training who was organizing the event. We were supposed to have a guide on the trip but she was nowhere to be found during the very short trip. We ended the "feast" by eating frozen granola bars that were left out in the snow all day. We will definitely not be coming back for cross country skiing, unfortunately. read more

Stayed for a long weekend that we were sold at the Novi Golf show. The weekend package was sold to us as a resort with something for everyone. I was very clear that I was not a golfer and would rather enjoy time by a pool with a bar or possibly just riding along on the course with my husband. We were told how this place has a great pool that is a huge indoor pool with a passage to an even bigger outside pool, there are plenty of lounge chairs and access to drinks by the pool. They also have great hot tubs as well. In addition there was a "Candy Bar 81" in the lobby of the lodge were we could get drinks and candy and popcorn. Our room would be very luxurious and we would really feel like we were staying at a very nice resort. None of this was accurate. We arrived on a Friday night around 6pm the front desk staff couldn't have cared less we were there, there was no info shared about the facilities, where to find things, hours of the bars, pool, spa, etc. We got to our room to find a giant door in our bathroom that would not open, we called the front desk to ask about it, we assumed it was the bathtub because the bathroom was very small with only a tiny stand up shower that you could touch while sitting on the toilet. Come to find out that room housed a broken jacuzzi and their solution was to bolt the door shut instead of fixing it. I'mguessing that this was the reason our room was full of bugs and musty, because they now have a jacuzzi behind a door that is bolted shut that isn't getting cleaned and the door had a good 1/2 inch gap under it. The room was dirty, all of the chairs are stained, there were holes and stains in the drop ceiling, all of the old wood furniture is chipped and sticky, the lightbulbs are all mismatched, like different colors and tones of lights, the coffee pot was dirty and the room had tons of bugs, big spiders and other crawly bugs. In addition the TV is super small, there is no guide for the TV, there are no USB outlets in the room and the brochures with QR codes took you to links with incorrect information ie, wrong dining hours, wrong info as to what is open and when. We had a huge deck that was inhabited by trash pandas, I get that they are in the woods but this is more likely because they have uncovered garbage cans that are clearly being used by the trash pandas. The deck was full of webs and the lights were broken, the deck furniture consisted of 2 banquet chairs and no table or actual deck furniture. The "indoor pool" is not an indoor pool at all it is an entry inside if you would rather get in the pool indoors and then swim through a tunnel to the outdoor pool. The pool is very warm and again full of bugs, and rocks. The concrete and tile around the pool is crumbling so walking bare foot is not an option. Several pool chairs were broken and there is no food allowed near the pool in addition there is no bar either, so the drinks and food by the pool we were sold was non existent. The hot tub chemicals were so off that if you turned on the hot tub a thick white foamgenerated and a chemical smell that burned everyone's eyes, we all had to get out of the hot tub and turn it off. The rude front desks answer to everything was "a supervisor isn't available." The driving range closes at 630 pm. It is summer and you are a golf resort, why is the driving range closed at 630 P.M. I can indeed ride along with my husband however what isn't shared is that they charge you 25.00 to do so. There is no restaurant or bar in the lodge in the summertime it is up on the hill on the other side of the resort and it is overpriced and understaffed. Everything was so bad at the resort we didn't even bother with food or drinks at Treetops. This resort was dead with nothing going on and there is no way its been relevant for years, please don't waste your money going here, there are plenty of other options in the area. The one redeeming point of the weekend was discovering Gaylord which surprisingly had a lot of really fun things to do. In addition the people in the city of Gaylord were very nice and hospitable. read more

This review is entirely based on my golf experience at the premium course. As our tee time was approaching we went to get our golf cart to drive up to our car and load our clubs because the parking lot is a bit of a walk from the pro shop. We did not know that they don't allow you to do that at this course. So, we literally ran to our car and back with our stuff trying not to be late. Our tee time was at 12:06 and we ended up pulling up to the first hole at 12:10. When we pulled up, all the man who gave us the cart waiver said was "you're late." Fair enough. It is annoying when people are late so I understood why he was very obviously annoyed with us. We apologized straight away and gave him a quick explanation as to why. I wanted him to know that we wouldn't have been late without reason and that we were sincerely sorry, and I think that was very clear in our apology. He didn't even respond to us, but again, I get it. Late is annoying. So we quickly signed the waiver and handed it back and he goes on to tell us that 16 people are waiting on us. 16 people. They book tee times 12 minutes apart and we were literally 4 minutes late so no, they were not waiting on us. The next tee time after ours was 12:18 and it was 12:10 at this point, yet this man tried to make us believe that we held SIXTEEN PEOPLE up.... to I don't know, make us feel worse?He was so excessively rude to us for being 4 minutes late even though we gave him an apology right off the bat (that he did not respond or even acknowledge). So anyways we begun golfing. But wait... there's more! We were only 4 holes in when asshole #2 drove up to us while we were on the fairway and said "You're only on the fourth hole and you're already 20 minutes behind." We apologized and trying to be polite said we'd pick up the pace. The people behind us never waited more than five minutes for us to finish a hole, and on many holes they didn't wait at all. So we continue golfing and maybe 45 minutes later he drives up to us again on the fairway, never fully stopping and sarcastically yells "you made up three minutes, only seventeen more to go." Then sped off. That being said, having this weirdo being blatantly rude to us and breathing down our necks took a lot of enjoyment out of the day. It was really strange how nonchalant both of those men were about being incredibly rude to guests, I've never encountered anything like it. The young cart boys were sweet and helpful though. They far surpassed the old (pardon my french) assholes in professionalism. read more

This review is for the hotel/rooms only. I was here for a work meeting so I did not use the golf course/spa/etc. The best way to describe this place is an adult frat house. Lots of dudes on golf trips. The rooms were disgusting...black toilet, black tub, hair dryer on the wall from the 70s, stains on the couch, nasty bedspreads, hard beds. I cannot believe I stayed here, but it was too late to change. The meeting room we used was in the basement of the main building, where you don't get cell phone service. Awesome. The only saving grace was that the restaurant had decent food and service. read more

Over the Top Treatment at Treetops The skiing was solid - while the experienced skier with us was unimpressed, the first-timers found the runs perfect for learning the ropes. The accommodations were surprisingly (given some of the other reviews here) appealing and well-maintained. Indoor and outdoor hottubs and the spa at the Lodge were a particular highlight. The food was also outstanding throughout our visit! Special thanks to Scott, Chef Dave and his team at Hunters Grille for amazing meals.They went above and beyond our expectations to ensure our satisfaction. No Wi-Fi and heat dose not work, no sure about air did not need that. Staff was nice. My daughter stayed in building 2, it had Wi-Fi, told that was the owners building. We were in building 8, not the owners building. This is my 2nd time coming to tree top, both times my a great experience. Won't come back!!!! read more
