One thing about this place is it is clean! Everywhere I looked was clean but everything is also run down. Our room was comfortable enough but outdated as were the exterior and hallway finishings. We were attending a conference and every staff member we encounter was friendly and helpful. The camaraderie at the bar was fun and comfortable however the pool area was like something out of a scary movie. I wouldn't mind dining or attending a conference here again but will find other accommodations next time. read more

Not what we expected. The travel websites don't say that the pool is closed. The air conditioning is not up to the task on the room. The lodge has no air conditioning. We visited in July, and the pool was closed for the summer. We have the only car in our lot for where we stayed. We called ahead of time, and none of this was disclosed to us. The person at the front desk did not tell us the pool was closed when we checked in. Pretty views though. read more

Great spot not too far off the grid for an easy weekend getaway. Some of the accommodations are a bit dated, but hey, they allow the family dog to tag along, so it was a win for us. Tubing is a great addition to break up the day, just make sure you get reservations. Ski rentals were easy and decent enough equipment. I highly recommend putting the kids in a ski lesson - each kid had a private instructor, which allowed mom and dad to have a cocktail and lunch. We ate and drank onsite. I would grade the food a 3.5-4* depending on where we went and what was ordered. Looking forward to going back. read more

What a hidden gem. Our group of 50 really put this resort to the test over a weekend, and they came out on top for almost everything. The food isn't exactly 5-star, but it was pretty solid the whole weekend with some really yummy offerings in there, and everything at Otsego is affordable, though many of the rooms are dated. They are clean, quiet and comfortable. The decor is definitely kitch, and according to staff, it's going to stay that way. So, if you're looking for spa treatments and fancy dining options on-site, this isn't the place for you. However, there is a really cute spa in town called Bliss that I will make sure to check out next time! Otsego is all about skiing and being outdoors, and I love all the fireplaces. I love that you can rent whole buildings if you have the right size group, and that really is ideal. Hilltop Lodge has the most updated rooms (8) with a great common living room and kitchen with a huge stone fireplace, couches and a large dining room table. If you're looking for something a little nicer, this is definitely the lodge to book. The rooms are more expensive than others, but it's easy to see why. It's perfect for a family vacation with little kids - the hills are small enough to learn on and are still fun for a more adventurous skier. You can book a lesson also. We arrived late-ish on a Thursday night through a blizzard - the resort has just the right altitude to get more snow than the surrounding area. It was like a winter wonderland all weekend, and then when we returned down-state, all the snow was gone. Kind of cool. Though we were one of the few tables in the Duck Blind that night, they served us a very nice dinner - decent wings, sandwiches, burgers, entrees - I had the chicken picatta with lovely egg noodles - comforting and savory. Drinks are strong and service was very friendly. Though we were a later crew, they didn't seem in a rush to hurry us out. I actually stayed in the Tyrol Lodge, which has older rooms, but the bathrooms appeared to be recently updated with a nice shower, and the room was spacious. Very hot water and good pressure. Carpet was a little old, but at $159 a night, totally worth it! Beautiful snowy views out of my window, room to do some yoga, very quiet at night. If TV at night is your thing, I'd suggest bringing a laptop to stream. And if you need consistent WiFi, a hotspot might not be a bad idea. After the storm, they had some trouble getting it to come back, but we made it work for our meeting. The in-room coffee situation also isn't great, so when I come again, honestly, I'll bring my own Keurig or something. If you like fancy coffee, there is a Starbucks in town, but the Duck Blind doesn't serve espresso drinks or anything. Even with the blizzard the night before, all walkways were cleared by a snow cat the following morning - I had no trouble walking to breakfast. Be aware that they definitely have some odd hours and the Duck Blind closes between breakfast and lunch at 10am. Catered lunch was basic but good - deli sandwiches, salad, homemade chicken rice soup and chocolate chip cookies. Everything was perfectly on time and looked great. Later that night, we had the Logmark bar to ourselves where they served us a pizza dinner - no complaints there! Just a small Up North style bar with pool tables and a fireplace. We had a cozy fun night together. The following night after everyone went skiing, tubing, snow-shoeing, etc. we all met up at the River Cabin, which really is so quaint and beautiful. Nestled at the bottom of the ski runs, the cabin sits right on a beautiful running creek and had a huge fireplace inside where you can sit and make s'mores. Normally, you buy concessions and drinks at the bar, but they had it set up really cute for us with tables and chairs and an appetizer buffet. They make these amazing pita chips to go with their spinach artichoke dip - yum! The cold shrimp was also a standout. As an entree, we could choose the elk steak or the salmon - my salmon was perfectly cooked and delicious, the elk steak looked quite rare, but that's the way you are supposed to cook it, so I hear. The entrees were ok but not great, but the service was excellent. They really took care of us while we were there, we felt like family. After dinner, we took the shuttle back up to the main part of the resort and hung out at the Logmark where they had live music. A good time. Working with Tracy was great - she really takes pride in her job and created a lovely weekend for us. Even with some food restrictions, (non-dairy, egg-free, vegan) she made it work! We look forward to returning again, and I'd really love to bring my family here. Even on a sunny, snowy Saturday, you felt like you had the slopes to yourself. No waiting in long lines, no worries about running people over, it's really chill. I bet it would also be beautiful in the Summer and affordable! With it only being 3.5 hours away from Detroit, I can see us returning soon. read more

Had a group and played at the tribute course, round was 6.5 hours long waiting 20-30 minutes on every hole. Marshals did absolutely nothing with the slow group to keep the pace of play. Amazing course but the curtness of the staff/ inability of the marshals to enforce the pace of play made our outing unenjoyable. read more

This weekend, I went skiing at two awesome ski resorts with my dad, named Treetops and Otsego Ski resort. Otsego was even funner than Treetops. It had a café, five individual lifts, plenty of fun trails and a massive terrain park. The café at Otsego was a very nice one, and had a large fire which was great to come into on a cold day. Unfortunately I wasn't able to be there for too long, and therefore couldn't see too many things that they served, but one thing I know was that the hot chocolate is great and the candy bars are delicious. The trails at Otsego were also great, but had a bit of a higher skill level. They had a few easy blues and greens, like Für Elise and Alan's alley for begenners, but no bunny hill, a load of blacks like waterfall and master's, two steep duo trails that me and my dad very much liked and even a few fun double blacks like Bob's Glade, a exciting and adrenaline-giving slope that emptied out into a easy green. The terrain park was also super fun, with gigantic jumps that sent me very high up into the air but no rails, which was ok but not as cool as it could be. The only rail I could find was a few rotten blocks of wood that someone had thrown together and then left to the power of the forest. read more

Every July (high season) on our way to Beaver Island we need a 1 night stay in northern Michigan that won't break the bank. Otsego Resort was such a wonderful surprise- a charming old school golf resort, I felt like we had just stepped onto the family camp site where Dirty Dancing was filmed. Beautiful rolling hills, a cute little bar with pool tables, swimming pool, fire pit, restaurant and golfing. We were sad we were only there to sleep in a clean room. Rooms and bathrooms were super clean and spacious. We'll definitely be back!! read more

Very disappointed with the first time experience at this resort. My husband and I had planned a weekend get away to celebrate our anniversary. Had a nice dinner at the club upon arriving and a restful evening. The next morning we went to the activities center to rent tubes ONLY TO FIND OUT...they were "SOLD OUT." SOLD OUT?!? For guests staying at the resort??? At no time during the reservation process (booked thru a human being) was this mentioned as an issue--as a matter of fact, we specifically asked if everything (including all activities) was open. After being told they were "booked all weekend", I called to speak to a Manager--to no avail. No response from the Manager so we decided to leave--even stopped by front desk, with no Manager available. Left the resort early to drive home--still NO CALL from a Manager. Horrible customer service. And yes, we paid our bill! In essence, it ruined our weekend and we left early to drive 4 hours back home! WILL NOT BE BACK. If you stay at this resort, you better ask in advance if you will be able to participate in outdoor activities--obviously, guests do not have any preferential treatment and Management doesn't seem to be available to tend to their guests. read more

Came here for my nephew's wedding. Never being here and not firmiluar with the area, the sign into the resort is very easy to spot. However after your heading in, there is only one visible sign showing which direction to go for check in. If it weren't for seeing my nephew I wouldn't have had any idea where to check in. I had a room in the loft, very unimpressed, especially for the $139 per night cost. My room smelled like urine, mold in the shower, took forever to warm up. No microwave, an ice bucket, but no place to fill it. Poor snow removal on walkways. No way of knowing when the reservation was made, that there are several different buildings, and each different rate, is in a different building. They don't tell you that when you call. They had a "block of room's" held, but there was no discount for said rooms. Then there was the wedding reception, poorest buffet,I've ever seen. I wouldn't come here for another wedding ever again. read more

Location of hotel is nice skiing slopes look great for starters. Is actually a valley of the river so you are going down rather then expect a hill. Rooms look like in need for some upgrades. Rooms beds are clean but walls ceiling and entrance to room is a bit shaggy. Walkway and stairs to room slippery and could use some better lighting so you wont break a leg. read more

We drove in at night, we were passing through and needed a place to sleep, all the hotels in Gaylord were full. This place was extremely dark, it made me very uncomfortable. It was too dark for comfort. The room was clean and a nice size. The pool, the restaurant, and the golfing were closed (they didn't have an estimation of when these would be open), the only thing open was the lodging. No liquor license at the moment, and staff is frustrated due to not making money, but they're all holding out hope things get better for them soon. Played the Tribute and was blown away. Challenging, scenic, great condition. Most holes are isolated from other holes, so the course feels very private. The par-four 3rd hole might be one of the most exciting holes I've ever played...a downhill hole with an unreal view. And by downhill, I mean downhill. Guessing it is nearly 200 feet downhill tee to green. Incredible driving hole. Other holes great too. Solid greens, strong bunkering, and trees abound. Beautiful golf course. Staff could use just a bit of work. Felt like they were surprised people were showing up to play golf. Would like to see more hustle out of the team getting bags out of the car. Minor deficiency. Incredibly superior option for Gaylord when compared to its neighbor resort down the road. Has a bit of a feel like the hotel in The Shining, but I went between ski season and golf season so the resort was completely empty. The staff were very pleasant and considerate. I did not get to try out the ski hill, but I was told it's a private club. So I'm not entirely sure if staying at the hotel guarantees admission to the slopes if you're not a club member. read more

This is a great resort for families. The lodge is spacious and has a great northern Michigan ambiance. There are a number of fireplaces and outdoor fire pits that the staff keep burning. It makes you feel as if you are at your own cottage. The skiing has enough variety to keep things interesting. The privately run, winter ski resort, is a gem. It is the perfect place for family's that love to ski and appreciate world class amenities. I am convinced that this is the only place in Michigan that gives parents the comfort of knowing that their children are always safe here skiing on their own. My kids were skiing by themselves or with friends, since they were 6 yrs old. The staff, lift operators, ski patrollers and members are always on the look out and ready to give a helping hand when needed. I could not fathom how long the winters would be without this place. It's not just the skiing that makes it great, it's the all around experience. Even if you are not a skier, you can still enjoy it. Ski the cross country trails, sled, snowshoe, hike, dine in the great restaurants, sip a Broken Leg at the Log Mark, read by the numerous blazing fires throughout the club-it goes on and on. This place is priceless and worth every bit of the membership. PS. The club is public in the summer for those that love to golf. read more

Pros: The grounds are absolutely beautiful and the golf course appears very well maintained. It's nice to have a variety of room styles and choices. We chose a "typical" hotel room, which had a lot more floor space than I'm used to. The room was very clean. Cons: Many of the buildings are very old. The paint is peeling, the wood needs to be repaired, etc. That said, there was a lot of work happening on the property so perhaps they are addressing those issues. The beds were also old and, really, some of the least comfortable I've ever slept in. The workout room was also a disappointment. Several of the machines didn't work, those that sort of worked were incredibly loud or unable to be adjusted, and the tv in the workout room wasn't connected. We saw few staff ; those we saw or spoke to didn't seem very happy to be there. They weren't exactly unfriendly but not friendly either. Finally, our toilet clogged the last night we were there. There wasn't a plunger in the room (understandable) so we called to ask for assistance. We were transferred to leave a message with facilities/maintenance and heard nothing for a few hours. We had to call the front desk again, and then someone showed up right away. Overall: This place has a lot of potential. I heard it's under new management so, hopefully, the repairs will be addressed and things will be updated. read more

The Tribute - Fun course, awesome views, in great shape, very challenging. It was tough, frustrating, and almost ridiculous at times. I have many, many fond memories of this place. I went here before they remodeled and the rooms seemed like they hadn't been touched since 1946-- a big plus in my book. I hope the club has maintained its charm since I was last there in the 90s. read more

Me and three buddies stayed at the Otsego Resort for a golf weekend in June 2011. We chose the resort due to the good prices and the Tribute Golf course. Overall we were delighted with our stay. Great value, great service, great golf courses. The main reason preventing five stars is that the rooms and food were nice, clean and serviceable - what I'd expect for the price but not spectacular. Golf: - Tribute course (at the resort): Beautiful, well maintained extremely challenging course. - Classic course (at the resort): Simple, easy course - we asked to not play here as it looked very basic. We ended up playing here anyway because we couldn't get enough and it was a fine course. More suitable for higher handicappers - Forest course (off site): Loved this course, very difficult nice forest setting. Had a lot of fun with this challenging layout - Valley course (off site): Nice course, easier than Forest/Tribute but harder and more interesting than Classic. All courses were welcoming, wide open and fast moving. We probably had to wait for another foursome on two of the ninety holes we played over the weekend. The resort also has some nice (but dated) amenities that were fun when we weren't on the course (a pool, shuffleboard, volleyball). The restaurant was average (limited choice in Gaylord) read more

Was very optimistic when we were on our way from over 7 hrs away, got a late start, called to confirm late arrival and a staff member stayed late to check us in. The room was clean and spacious, but unfortunately that's where the good stuff ends. In the light of day, the resort was pretty shabby, needs a lot of TLC. We were not aware that the golf courses, nor the pool, were closed. Not sure if they are opening at all, the website makes it appear as if everything is up and running. Gaylord seems to be a nice community, but can not recommend the Otsego Inn at all. read more

We were talked into playing the Tribute instead of the Classic. we were told it was in much better shape, and taken care of much better. the greens were in terrible shape, 30-40% of most if not all greens were dead. they were trying to repair some greens with large patches of sod that made them ground under repair. the score card had no course layout, with large tracks of hazard in the middle of the fairway we had no idea the fairway ended. Granted we were first timers here, but the card was completely useless to us. save your money play somewhere else. Now we know why we saw no one else on the course. for $85 we could have played a number of premier courses in the area. read more

Due to Covid restrictions in the lower part of the state, we moved our wedding to Otsego Resort and we are so happy we did. Everything turned out beautifully and Amanda our wedding planner, was superb. She handled all the little details, from making sure the windows were clean, and having the chimney and fireplace cleaned for our wedding and reception, the food was excellent and all the staff was very friendly. We had to have our small wedding in the lobby and they made sure nobody would come in to disrupt the wedding ceremony and it was set up beautifully in front of the windows with a gorgeous view of hills and the Sitzmark banquet room for reception. We had a dance floor, but due to added restrictions it had to be moved outside. Our wedding planner, Amanda, took care of that with a windowed, 3 sided large white tent and when it got dark, the bartender got a hold of colored lights and disco ball, which made it even more fun. Amanda had plenty of seating outdoors for us with high top tables and chairs plus low tables and Adirondack chairs, our DJ was set up outside, but the music could be heard while you're in the resort reception area too. Lodging was clean and comfortable and it is an older lodge, but has amenities needed. All in all, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend at Ostego Resort in Gaylord Michigan. read more

I would avoid this hotel and resort. I booked a room and prepaid. Unfortunately, I had a family emergency and had to cancel two days in advance. I was simply requesting a credit for future stay but was told they would not give me any type of credit. I would have been happy within partial credit. In my experience, a business unwilling to at least give a credit for future use does not value a customer. There are plenty of other nice places in Gaylord, MI that would happily serve you. Best family ski resort in northern Michigan....hands down. Visited over Christmas week. The food was great, the hilltop room was gorgeous and the snow was perfect. The lift lines were non-existent and no other skiers crashing into you. Our young kids were in lessons and learned to ski in one hour. read more
