Why is it called the Spring Lighthouse. We arrived later than expected, probably interrupting the Innkeepers Dinner. Darci greeted us warmly and we chatted for a couple of minutes before making our way up to our room. I was instantly impressed by the charms of this well appointed, wondrous home. Next it was outside to check out the grounds. The sky was overcast but it did not diminish the property's beauty in the least. Time for Breakfast, I mean, it is half the name. We were greeted by Innkeepers Darci & Tom. They are such an incredible couple. The type of people you'd hope to meet on vacation, and then spend some quality time with. Warm, friendly, and so very comfortable to be around. Even if they couldn't cook I would have had a great start to my day. But shortly we were blown away by a delicious Blueberry Stuffed French Toast. I realized we were experiencing the very best of both worlds. I have stayed in some of the top-rated B&B's in the north east quadrant of our country and have never felt so fortunate to be sharing a home. Honestly, six nights was not nearly enough. About the name, "Spring" is very appropriate. The property is so mentally renewing. It, along with Tom & Darci, help create a positive frame of mind. Angst and worries melt into comfort and relaxation. A Reiki massage for the mind. Lighthouse? I'd say two words Light-Home. "Light" (natural agent that stimulates sight & makes things visible). "Home" (the place we feel most comfortable, loved & protected - where we most feel at Home). We can't wait to return. There's no place like Home, even if ... technically, it's not really yours.

The moment we walked through the door Tom made us feel at home. My husband came here as part of our "minimoon" in Michigan and our two days will stay without forever.  We were surprised with a gift basket from the owner and a gift from Tom & Darci. Everything about our experience was beyond comfortable. The view overlooking the lake is indescribable. Please get up early and watch the sunrise and make sure to catch the sunset. Once the sun goes down, being able to sit outside by the fire table with a mug of tea and/or hot chocolate.   The B&B is located close to the little downtown, and it is easy to take a stroll into down and go to a local restaurant while taking in the view of the lake. Lastly, the breakfast sets the mood for a great day. We absolutely plan to stay here again in the future.

There are no full time residents but people maintain individual properties and return yearly. There is a sense of community with a good mix of people. There is a nice athletic area. My husband and I were looking to…read moreget away for a weekend last minute and after calling around to a handful of places for camping which were all full (last weekend of the Cherry Festival), I reached out to Jerry of Paradise Cove and he was happy to host us. He and his wife, Barb, were so incredibly hospitable and kind - they checked the sites before we booked to make sure they weren't too wet (we had just come off a week with a lot of rain) and that they would accommodate our camper. He met us at the drive when we arrived to make sure we got parked okay (sites are on the smaller side, about 20 feet wide with large trees in between). And he even brought up a fire ring and firewood to our site when we asked about a place to have a fire! As they also own the Paradise Cove restaurant and marina just down the street from the campground, I'm sure they are busy folks and that makes this level of customer service that much more special! Currently the campground is under development, so only a portion of their current 16 sites are ready for use (some don't have electric service and they don't currently take tent or pop-up campers as there are no bathroom facilities). The view of Lake Leelanau from sites 1-10 is beautiful, the road the sites share with the residential neighborhood was quiet and peaceful, and it was a perfect jumping off point for the adventures we wanted to have in the Traverse City, Old Mission Peninsula, Leelanau Peninsula, and Sleeping Bear Dunes area. I recently stayed at this campground and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience -- not…read moreonly with the conditions of the site, but with the rude and condescending response I received when I reached out about a legitimate health concern. During our trip up north, this was the only place where my asthma was triggered. We spent four days in other areas affected by the Canadian wildfires without any issues whatsoever. The morning after arriving here, my asthma became severely aggravated, and we were forced to leave early. The stagnant pond next to our campsite was covered in scum, clearly releasing mold and spores into the air. This was the only environmental change during our trip, and the only place where my breathing became compromised -- making it obvious that the pond conditions, not wildfire smoke, caused the reaction. When I emailed to cancel the remainder of our reservation and requested a refund, I would have fully understood if the campground simply reiterated their no‑refund policy. However, the response I received was unnecessarily dismissive and patronizing. I was told, in a condescending tone, that "algae is not associated with asthma," followed by an incorrect assumption that wildfire smoke was the cause -- despite the fact that we had been in wildfire‑affected areas for days with zero symptoms. A polite explanation of policy would have been acceptable. The attitude was not. The man taking reservations was rude from the first phone conversation and I was reluctant to make a reservation, but was unable to find a campsite in the area that had a GUARANTEED SITE, not first come first serve. Customer service matters, especially when guests are dealing with health issues. Instead of listening, acknowledging the concern, or even responding neutrally, the staff chose to be dismissive and incorrect about the situation. That alone ensures we will not be returning. This is the EMAIL- so no speculation on my interpretation of the response from the resort. Please cancel our reservation for today, Saturday July 18th. The pond scum severely bothered my asthma, and we were forced to leave early this morning. Please add payment charge back to my credit card. She also has wonderful stories of her adventures during the off season that are sure to delight you. The rooms are very comfortable and extremely well kept. Air conditioning is available and separately controlled in each room. Each room has a private bathroom. Breakfast each morning is served with fruit, some type of bread, and a very delicious hot dish. She even serves her own made grape juice. The grounds are immacutely tended to. She also has a wonderful sun room where breakfast is served each morning and one can take advantage of it throughout the day to read or relax. The only complaint I have is that I can't take her home with me!!

While kids are welcome, and there are usually some around, it's generally very quiet - just the sounds of the lake and the breeze. Since these cabins are on the south lobe of Lake Leelenau (which is much bigger and less busy than its partner to the north), most of the boat traffic is far enough away to just be a gentle rumble in the distance. The views from the shore are some of the best in the region. Wine vinyards, farm fields and forests dot the rolling hills that surround the lake. The cabins themselves are awesome. 1940's one-room fishing cabins are charming, romantic and cozy. A small kitchen space (fridge, stove, sink, counter) is adequate for meal preparation. There is room for a queen-size bed. And there is small bathroom (toilet and shower) in the corner. The grounds are well maintained grass with a few flower beds. There is a cute gazebo, a hammock, and seats around a fire pit on the beach. The cabin is the perfect base for exploring beautiful Leelenau Peninsula. Dotted with numerous award-winning wineries, cute shops and excellent restaurants, we have no trouble spending two weeks here. This area is also home to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - voted the most beautiful place in America by Good Morning America last year. And if you are into casinos, there are even a few of those up here. This is truly, paradise on earth!
