I came to Trek to buy some bikes and associated accoutrements at the suggestion of a family member. The "no tax" situation in Delaware was also appealing. When we arrived there were unfortunately no sales associates available to help us, which was surprising given it was a Saturday afternoon. There was one sales person working at the time but he was helping someone else, so one of the service techs tried to assist as best as possible. He was extremely friendly and directed us to the models that would most likely be a best fit for our needs. Once the sales associate got freed up, he started working with my husband and me. Unfortunately about a half hour into our progress we were passed off again to another sales associate. It was a little frustrating to have to re-start our conversations and explain what we needed to so many different people. Once we got settled with the associate who would ultimately take us through the purchase process, there was a lot of up-selling going on. I can't tell you how many times I had to say "no" to a water bottle cage or bike bells. The one thing that happened that dropped my rating down a star involves the bike mount. We originally wanted a bike hitch rack, and were told repeatedly that it needed to be 2". It was even the one thing that I physically wrote down before I left the store. Unfortunately it turns out that they don't make a 2" trailer hitch for my car, and when I called Trek to request a trunk rack instead I was told, oh, a 1.25" hitch would be fine. After calling 4 different installers to try to get an appropriate hitch only to find out that I was given the wrong size to start, I was exasperated and over the entire thing. You should also know the hitch installer they work with "down the road" gave the most expensive quote of anyone I spoke with. Anyway, I ultimately got a trunk rack and was able to pick up my bikes. I am not sure if I'll make the effort to return to this particular location considering there are others closer to my house, but in the end, I got what I needed. read more

I wish I could give more than 5 stars to the Trek store in Wilmington! I went there today to buy a Kuat hitch-mount bike rack. Although I live is SE Pennsylvania, the store was only 16 miles away AND, DE has no sales tax. After I bought the rack, I thought I'd just take the box home and assemble everything there. The sales staff went above and beyond by saying they'd love to assemble and install the rack for me! I was told that it would take about 1/2 hour and they were spot on! A VERY BIG shout out to my sales person, Hulyeong. She seemed as happy as could be as she put all the bits together like an expert. When she was done, a really nice salesman (didn't get his name) carried it over to my car and installed it into my trailer hitch. The Kuat is a monster. Once tightened, it doesn't wobble or move one bit. The same is true when I test mounted a bike to it after getting home. It was also great seeing they're finally getting some inventory in after that long-lasting bike shortage. I saw a bright red Domaine e-bike in my size. My partner and I purchased bikes at the Trek Wilmington location within the last two weeks. We came to the store having a vague idea that we should be purchasing lower end mountain bikes; but after speaking with rep Ari, who taught us all about different kinds of hybrids, we found a model (Dual Sport 2) that fit our needs better than the mountain bikes would. The price difference between the models we thought we would be getting and the ones we ended up getting was about $100, so we didn't feel like we were being pressured to get a higher end model. Ari was absolutely WONDERFUL to work with! Ari was incredibly patient with us answering our many questions, and showed us different features of different bikes while picking our brains to see what we would be using them for. Ari also showed a lot of understanding while we were talking about different budget concerns, and offered to let us put a deposit down on the bikes while we weighed the decision; the deposit would be completely refunded if we decided we didn't want the bikes. We came back a week after our initial visit and officially purchased the bikes. At our first visit, we had bought a trunk rack; unfortunately after I was looking up information on the manufacturer's website, the manufacturer specified that their model wasn't compatible with my car. It probably could have worked, but since I was going to be driving around with nearly $2k worth of bikes strapped to my trunk, I didn't want to take the chance! After a brief scramble, I found one online that got delivered right before we were supposed to go pick up the bikes (phew). I wish that was something they would have been able to double-check at the store before purchase, but also as the consumer we are responsible to do our diligence as well. However, Ari was completely understanding, and the rack got refunded with no issue. Ari even took a look at the new rack we bad brought with us to see if the straps seemed secure; as someone who has never used a trunk rack before (my previous biking experience was only in NYC when I didn't own a car), I found this incredibly thoughtful especially since we did not purchase the rack from Trek. We ended up also getting kickstands (which they installed free of charge while we were there), a mini air pump (which was also installed on one of the bikes), and spare tubes. We may have to go back and swap the tubes because according to the Trek's website, a different valve type may needed. Ari had pulled some other accessories for us to consider, but we owned quite a few of them already (saddle bags, tire levers, lights, bells), and were still on the fence about purchasing some; again, no pressure for us to purchase at all and nothing but understanding from Ari. A solid 4.5 from me; only not a 5 due to the trunk rack thing and possibly being given the wrong tubes. I think this shop and the workers are great though, so putting this as a 5 rather than a 4 since Yelp doesn't do half stars. read more

I went to this shop while on a day-long 600-mile drive. The bike rack on my van, carrying three bicycles, had a problem and I needed to buy a new bike rack--fast. I called them from I-95 to find out if they had the right rack, and the employee on the phone verified they did -- he asked me my vehicle model and confirmed the bike racks they had in stock would work with that vehicle. So I got off I-95 and found their shop. I bought the rack and two employees helpfully installed the rack for me, which I really appreciated because I was in the middle of a 10-hour drive and didn't have a lot of time and energy to figure out how to put on a bike rack safely and securely. Installing a non-hitch bike rack is both an art and a science and it helps to know what you're doing to get it dialed in just right. As they worked, we talked bikes which is a nice sign -- they know bikes. If this bike shop gives this kind of attention to a non-local passing through, who will probably not be around again, imagine the level of service they would give to a local who could become a longterm customer. I'm a complete newbie when it comes to bicycles but my hubs and I wanted to get into road biking. We had visited Brandywine Bikes on Marsh Road and had many questions where we didn't get many answers. Trek is awesome and made our shopping experience so great. We didn't even know where to start but Dave and Richie were super friendly, informative, and helpful. They had a fancy app that got us fitted for size to select the proper frame. We test road a Domane and Checkpoint to help us decide on the feel and geometry of the bike that was most comfortable. We did not pull the trigger yet since $2900 a bike is a decision that doesn't come lightly but after researching more I'm sure we will be back. Kudos to Trek and their fantastic employees for helping make very new bicyclists feel so welcomed in joining this sport! read more

Super friendly and helpful. Rented a bike for 24 hours on a Saturday and got a ride in Sunday morning too. $100 is not cheap but the bike is not either so I understand the charge. Located in a busy spot right near the U of Delaware their parking lot is big enough to get a spot. Grabbed lunch from a nice spot just down the street. Great overall experience! read more

This is a great shop. Been coming here since it was Bile Lane and was apprehensive about their being bought by Trek. All my worries were for naught. They are super knowledgeable and helpful with little pressure to purchase their parts. I use their mechanic for anything I don't feel confident doing myself. They are fast and not expensive. The people at Trek Wilmington are great! They worked with me until we found just the right e-bike, even ordering a smaller size for me. When that one didn't work I tried a different model, which turned out to be a perfect fit. They have a great selection of bikes, and the sale people are knowledgeable and friendly. I went in To have 2 bikes repaired one with "flat tires" and my mountain bike with shifting issues. They told me because of covid-19 it would take 1.5 weeks. It was all done on time as agreed. The one with the flat tires just required air. No charge. It was refreshing they didn't charge me for tires I didn't need or charge any fee for me not knowing all it needed was air. The mountain bike they gave back and after riding it once it still wasn't working Correctly. I called they said we will put you in the calendar right away 30 day guarantee no charge. I went in and found out I needed a whole new gear set. Which they did while I waited. No labor charge and the entire time they were professional as they dealt with me and the many other customers that came in the store. I highly recommend this store and the staff. Rich D. read more

EVERYONE is nice, helpful and extremely knowledgable. Mostly everything I've ever bought at Bike Line (both the Newark and Concord Pike stores) has been special order and they're always fast, reliable and the best price around (plus tax free!). The last thing I bought was a back rack and water resistant panniers. They explained to me how to install and said if I couldn't get it to work to throw the bike in the car, bring it back in and they'd be happy to put them on for me. If you're in the market for a new bike or just for some accessories to go with one you already have, this is the place to go. read more

Went with an older bike that I had purchased to commute for the summer. I was followed in the store and spoken to sternly for not putting my bolts in for my bag rack. When I was spoken down to once for not knowing that I needed new tires (which I wasn't going to buy new ones already because I was only in DE for a few more weeks) then again because I reused an old tube naught from this very trek store; I finally said in response to the bolts over arching to my gears ' I don't shift gears usually so I haven't noticed, what would you like me to do about it?' the gentleman medium height said, 'fine role down the hill for all I care!'. So I assume either people in DE are overall pretentious unless you ride a $3,000 bike. Perhaps not only him but his counterpart has ever seen a Hispanic ride a bike or a woman. I am going to safely assume the latter. Thank you Delaware trek store for making a miserable experience just to change my flat. Thanks for adding the comments and skeptical security to follow me around the store, for free. Never again, I hope Delaware gains some knowledge of the diverse cyclist that exist throughout the US and open more bike shops. read more

Thanks to one of the head mechanics, Mike for going above and beyond this past weekend. My brand new bike (Verve 2) that had just been built, had some damage when it was still in the box and it wasn't realized by anyone until I came to pick it up. After one of the other employees noticed it he (I didn't get his name) and Mike sprung into action. Mike knows his stuff and took the bike back into his "office" to get to work. I had the WORST experience at this bike shop today (Sunday, September 16, 2012). The experience was so astonishing that I am compelled to share it here, and to warn people to really THINK about doing business with this establishment if you are wanting to purchase a new bike: I was in the market for purchasing a new bike, and my friend (who is knowledgeable about bikes) went with me to this store--Bike Line, as this is where he purchased his own bike. We both live in Wilmington and he actually purchased his bike at the Bike Line in Newark, DE, but has his bike serviced by the Bike Line store in Wilmington. Being that it was a Sunday, the store closed at 4pm, so we were there at 3:30pm. I knew the exact bike I wanted, as I had been to the store one time before with my friend when he had to get his bike tuned up. I got a bad feeling about the customer service during our first visit, but brushed it off, as I'm thinking this is just a bike shop and maybe all bike shops' employees are not as friendly--that this was just normal behavior. Today, as I am picking out my bike, one of the employees (younger guy) was helping us, but he got a little annoyed at my friend and I, as we were picking out accessories for the bike, but were asking questions about each accessory to make sure it was the best quality and choice for the bike. My friend wanted to make sure that this Wilmington store would honor purchases of accessories with a 10% discount off of each, AND that the water bottles I was purchasing would be "free." Such discounts and free water bottles were done at the Bike Line store in Newark, DE. This employee spoke with his manager about this and the manager informed him that there would be discounts on all accessories, but no free water bottles. After the young employee told us this news, my friend asked to speak with the manager. The manager reiterated the 10% discount/no free water bottles policy. My friend tried reasoning with him on this to see if he could honor the same policy as the Newark store. The manager's response was "My superiors tell is what we can discount and not discount, and I have my job that I want to keep. I can't discount everything." While there is clearly a difference in policy, I told my friend that I am getting a weird feeling/vibe about doing business with this store, as they do not seem friendly or interested in making a sale, AND making a sale to ME. (I should point out that I am black and my friend is white). I relayed to all of the employees my concern with their behavior and customer service being very low, and the manager (and another worker) got very defensive with us. It went completely downhill from there. I am the last person to cry "race card" here, but it was clear to me that the customer service level was VERY substandard, and these employees were not interested in selling a bike to me. I felt as if I was taking up their time, and that I was an imposition to them. I recently got into biking with my friend, as I enjoy it very much. My bike purchasing experience today was horrible and ruined because of this store. While I will not let this negative experience ruin my love and desire for biking, I will NOT do business with this store ever again! I will also urge many of you out there to think twice about doing business with this store as well. I do not believe purchasing a bike should be such a negative experience. If you are making a significant purchase as this, there should be a level of acceptable customer service that would GET you to WANT to come back to the store, and that the employees make you feel important during the process. None of this was the case today! My friend and I will make a visit to the Bike Line store in Newark, DE and see if my experience will be better there. We should have gone there first, but the Wilmington store was closer today. Again, Bike Line in Wilmington, DE does NOT have to worry about me ever doing business with them ever again. I STRONGLY urge others to think about this as well. NOT a good store for customer service! read more
