Decided my aggressive mountain biking days were over (I'm 65) but really wanted to keep spinning off-road. Never been a road rider. The shop crew convinced me to go with a gravel bike even though the drop bar configuration was foreign to me. They guided me and fit me to a Salsa Cutthroat and some sweet new gear. WOW! Absolutely Love It. A little over a year later I've ridden nearly 1,000 miles of trails in DE, PA, & MD including single track (just no big drops or rocks). Went in to try a drop bar gravel bike. Never had a drop bar. My backup was gonna be another trail bike. I had a specific model I went to see but it wasnt built but I still wanted to try a few to see if i'd like a drop bar. Steve helped me try a few sizes and the 3rd bike I fell in love with the feel. A Salsa. Rick was very informative and got the bike ready for me to take with me even though they were extremely busy. There was also a woman helping but I forget her name. Sorry! Rob and his team are the most passionate, knowledgeable and professional people I have ever worked with in probably any business. I can not say enough good things about this store! I have a 7 year old Diamondback bike that I ride and treat tougher than any Diamondback should be! Out on the trails yesterday I tore up a rear derailleur and wheel. Rob ordered a replacement part and had me back up and going before 10:30 this morning! While at the shop Rob also hung a set of brake pads front and back, tuned the bike up and adjusted my headset for a much more comfortable ride. My bike now goes AND stops! This bike shop is a real gem and I'll be going to them for all my cycling needs from now on. Little bit further drive for me, but they have so many great brands and selection that just isn't offered anywhere else. You should go here at least once just to see place and check out both floors. The customer service is excellent and Rob the owner really cares about every customer that comes in. Everyone else that works there also seems just as helpful and passionate about cycling. I went to a couple other shops before here and just didn't get the same culture or selection. Many of the bikes are high end, so if you're looking for a discount bike, then this is probably not the place. What really blew me away was the number of bikes despite us being in the middle of a industry shortage. I tested several bikes in the parking lot and they dialed in each one, and were patient the whole way. I ended up getting a salsa timerjack and couldn't be happier. I had a problem with a bike rack I bought (not the shops fault) and they made it right, no questions asked. They're not a big company like Amazon or Trek, so it really says a lot that they're willing to do this. I'll be going here for everything else I can and telling all my friends as a result. This business is barely 6 months old on my review and already they've achieved what so many places just can't seem to figure out...customer service. I walked in 15 minutes to closing in dire need of new tires. I walked out 15 minutes later, after a consult, with expert advice, choices and tremendous service. Garrison's is owned and operated by Rob Garrison, a veteran in the Cyclery business, and he is clearly out to offer a great selection of bicycles from the beginning rider to the expert, in both road and mountain varieties. Rob Garrison is like Bruce Lee in Fists of Fury but instead of jacking up mofo's he's fixing / building / adjusting bikes like nobody's bizniz. Rob has bike knowledge like Dr. Dre has beat knowlege. This guy don't play games. He worked on my bike like a master surgeon and when I got my ride back it was 100 times better than before like the Bionic Woman. We were in shock, the woman at the counter was extremely rude, obnoxious, and impatient! We were first time customers and did not know we needed an appointment for service, we always dropped in at other bike shops, ok we can come back but she insisted this time she would do it, well as we continue the process of checking in it went from bad to worst. She was cruel to my husband , he totally was flabbergasted with the customer service! We left the bike but she made it quite clear if won't be ready for a while! Well on Saturday we called , left it Tuesday, not ready so I had an awful feeling because when my husband called Friday to check on bike she said not ready and we could come pick up bike and hung up on him! Terrible service! No apology from the owner when my husband picked up the bike Saturday and bike was outside not locked up, so someone could have walked off with it, along with a lot of other bikes not locked up. I did read in reviews they do take walk ins and help people right away , this lady was incredible for being the girlfriend of the owner, hope his business continues but seriously we will never spend a dime of our hard earned money there and continue to pass on our experience with this shop! My bike is very nice and was not cheap so i was shocked it was outside unlocked! read more

I have never felt talked down to , or like my kind of biking was unworthy of the staffs time. The service is great, and I have always found the advice grounded in reality, not an opportunity to sell you more stuff. My wife and I both have had our bikes tuned here. At every step they were direct and upfront. They will even leave a open lock on the bike rack if you have to drop your bike off outside of business hours. This review is long overdue, but as the saying goes better late than never... I heard about Garrison's from a riding buddy, and even though I live an hour away I had to go check it out based on his comments. I'd been in the market for a new mountain bike for the good part of a year and been in and out of every bike shop in the Philadelphia area, as well as a bunch of others in NY, CO, AZ while I was doing my research. Let me cut to the chase and say this...there are a lot of cool bike shops all over this country, with rad people who know their stuff and will give generously of their time and knowledge. But I did not encounter one that even comes close, that compares in any way to what Rob Garrison and his remarkable team offer. I came to Garrison's with a good idea of what I wanted. Soon as I walked in I knew I had come to the right place. It's not a huge shop, but beautiful bikes/parts/gear ooze from every corner...it clearly a matter of quality over quantity. Everyone is chill, passionate, deeply knowledgeable. There is ZERO sales pressure...just information, support and all the choice a person could hope for, in the search for a dream bike. After an informative and confidence inspiring chat with Chris, it turned out that the bike I might be looking for wasn't in the showroom. However after a brief consultation with Rob, and a call to their Turner rep, they agreed to order a demo from the factory so that I could try the Burner on a trail before deciding. How above and beyond is THAT? I had already been in the hunt for a year, so I didn't mind waiting a few more weeks. When that bike came in a couple weeks later and I took it back to Philly to ride on familiar trails, it all came together. All those months of reading, demo-ing, and bike ogling. After I finally placed the order and then, some weeks more later, went to pick up the finished bike, I was completely blown away. Months of research and searching were manifested in the machine before me, thanks to the guidance, inspiration and incomparable ability of Rob, Chris, and Rick to translate my wishes into reality. But that is only the beginning of the story. Because in the year that followed and to this day, as I gradually got the bike dialed in, Rob and his team have provided awe inspiring support and service. I moved to the area about a year ago, and the first thing I did was check out bike shops. I walked into Garrison's, and met Rob. He asked how he could help me, and then spent about 45 minutes helping me pick routes, clubs, and just being a bike enthusiast, because I was new to the area. Since then, I've been a regular. His motivation seems to be to influence others to love bikes as much as he does! I don't think his shop is pricey; he carries high end merch, and sells it for a fair price. But he picks his stuff because it is top notch, and won't give his customers problems in the long run. It's a busy shop, but Rob and his team are more than happy to help you, spend time with you, and make sure you know the pluses and minuses of your bike or accessory choices. My sole piece of advice to others is that if you need service, you're best to make a reservation or call ahead. If it's minor, he'll likely take you. If you need a tune up, overhaul... something more extensive, a reservation will get you in and out in the fastest possible time. If Yelp had a no star option I would choose that. I took my son's Mountain Bike to Garrison's bike shop today to get a new back tire and to get his rear derailleur adjusted, which was hitting the spokes. The bike repair mechanic, Rick Nersasian, did take the time to look at my son's bike and said he would repair it but I would have to pick it up on Friday because they were backlogged. Good to go right? Rick said let me get you written up , And he went back to speak with the manager. Next think I know he hands me a business card for Jim's Repair shop in Wilmington DE. and says we don't work on these bikes. But this guy will. I told him I've always brought my bikes to Garrison and had theme serviced to include this one. He spoke to his manager again, whom I never saw and told me he was sorry that he couldn't help me and turned me away. I asked him if his shop only worked on expensive bikes like the ones his store sold, which were between $1,500 to $6,500.00. He said no we work on all bikes. I reminded him he just told me his store didn't work on "these types of bike". He said I'm sorry but I can't help you and then blamed it on a backlog of service. I wouldn't suggest going to Garrison unless you pull up in a high end SUV and you spend thousands of dollars on biking!!! read more

I have bought a couple of bikes from Rob over the years and everyone is still sitting in my garage. I sadly moved to the flat lands of Chicago after growing up in the Delaware area and was in desperate need of a new Tri Bike. After talking to multiple shops in the Chicago area I decided to stop in and see Rob when I was back on the EC for business. I was not disappointed in the least a Rob got me set up on the new P2 with DI2 and it is a fantastic ride with all of the upgrades that make sense and no upselling on items that I didn't need. It was well worth the trip and the expense to throw it on a plane and bring it back home. There is something to be said for getting things done right the first time and that is what you get at Garrison's Cyclery. Just wish that I was a bit closer to take the bike in for its regularly scheduled maintenance! read more

I just discovered that Garrison's bike shop moved from it's former location on rt. 52. I was bummed, bc that location was convenient to me, but then I remembered how easy it was the last time I went there, so I decided to go check out their new spot (btw,It didn't take much longer to get to, which was great; it is just a different direction). Anyhow, everyone there is so nice and knowledgeable and fast!! I had to get my tire fixed and my break adjusted. Although they were very busy, I was in and out in about 20 minutes, all set to ride again! I'm addition, the new space is so much bigger! Garrison's Cyclery is a small boutique that sells Moots, Kestrel, and Cervelo products for road, mountain, and triathlons. Though the shop is small, the owner has carefully selected quality riding gear, accessories, and components that demonstrate his biking product expertise. And, the work shop is bustling. We were delighted by the exceptional customer service, particularly when choosing clips and trying out a number of flat bar and hybrid road bikes. In fact, they encourage you to linger and enjoy a Chimay from the fridge (after you've gone out, of course). Highly recommended. read more

Rob Garrison runs a very propfessional and approachable bicycle business. I have been to no less that 10 other bike shops in PA and Delaware during the course of the last 3 weeks, and one thing I have learned is that cycle shop owners run hot and cold. After a few minutes, the culture of a cold shop is easy to feel. Same goes for a warm interpersonal shop. Rob run's an interpersonal warm shop. After scratching my head on a few models in big frames (60 and 61cm), I made my purchase. I mention the frame sizes, because in most shops, I would have had to wait until the frame was delivered. I landed on the Kestrel Talon with Shimano 105 drive. This bike is a beaut! Rob and his team were very open to any questions and made adjustments to the bike that set me up perfectly. I have to travel some distance to get to Garrison's, and I'm on a short clock as I have two elderly parents to look out for. I've never been there and since the Yelp reviews were in their favor I decided to call them to see if they had the tires I needed in a particular, yet common, size. The woman who answered told me they have them upstairs and I can look them over. I get down there and she's bringing out sizes nothing like the one I need. She tells me that she thought I said a different size when we both knew that wasn't true. I just think that was a sneaky, unnecessary way to get me in the store. Never again. read more

I went in looking to talk road bikes for my wife and was instead subjected to the owner's heavy-handed and opinionated style of talking down to everyone while he held court in the beer-equipped service area. Couldn't seem to find anything in the way of a quality bike for her at this shop under the $2k mark. And then it wasn't even a major brand...if I wanted a Kestrel I'd just shop on eBay. I've given these guy a shot on a couple of occasions and just don't see what all the fuss is about with this so-called "boutique." Cramped quarters and a poor layout await anyone shopping at Garrison's and based on product selection he likes to buy gear at a discount and then blow things out that no one really needs. read more

Can I give them 10 stars? I was on a ride yesterday (a Sunday, mind you), and one of my friends said we should stop at the bike shop (as my bike was about to explode, as usual). I said, yes but it's Sunday, are they open, as no shops are open Sundays. Of course THEY were. I was outside the shop feebly attempting to fix my very expensive saddle, that I have put through my traditional bicycle part stress test of neglect/having an extremely heavy man use not to mention I am not light on my equipment, when the owner stopped me from ruining my seat and asked me to hold on. He then MacGyvered a fix by using a wood block and pipe wrench, as well as two hammers and it was as good as new, which it hadn't even been when it was actually new. I was beyond impressed. He then went around and fixed all of my ailing components, while politely admonishing me for riding in this state of disrepair. What was the damage? Nothing. Seriously. He didn't even ask for anything. Which is why as soon as I come into some money (one more year of Law School, good willing I can finally purchase a NEW bike for once) I will be acquiring something high-end from him. Most/all of the shops in the city who are too cool for school would have watched me ruin my saddle, while snidely commenting on my lack of mechanical inclination, where instead, Garrison's went far above and beyond. I wish there were more folks like Rob G. in the world. He provides the types of service that you can only get in a small town where he knows you like a family member. He will spend as much time with you as you need, provide patient clear explanations, and always listens. While he is incredibly knowledgeable about bikes, he is not so snobby as to think he is better than you - but instead understands that we all are different cyclist. He is very selective about parts and gear he carries because he knows his gear and he wants best for his customers.
