I am a huge consignment shopper, not only do I believe in saving money but I also believe in recycling. For casual and sportier items, Value village is the place for merch, for formal and business attire; I will turn to Vespucci's. But to really get my swag on, I would highly recommend Trends in Kensington. This is the place to go to fill my closet with urban street ware. This store caters to the 18 to 35 year old woman who wants a bit of funk but doesn't want to end up with junk. Expect affordable clothing and accessories on gently used items like Miss Sixty, Diesel, David Bitten, and Rock and Republic. I never leave Trends empty handed. read more

I'm not a big vintage shopper. I just lack the magic it takes to find clothes that fit in the colours I want without paying a massive premium. But I'd like to be, to find cheaper clothes and help cycle down some of the mindless consumerism that invades both Calgary and me. So a place like Trends is perfect for my kind of shopper, because they take all the hard work right out of it. The clothes are organized by type (pants, jackets, blouses), colour then size, so it is relatively easy to navigate the store and find the right stuff. They focus a lot more on casual wear than office wear, but most of it is stylish and recent it. It is called Trends for a reason! They also have a growing section of new clothing, which I enjoy glancing at as well. That in addition to their large collection shoes and handbags, their makeup (not used) business in the back, and the jewelry mean that Trends can be a one-stop-shop for many people. read more

Pretty pricey and my items NEVER sell here. I'll drop them off and it'll be a month before they're even on the floor. And like clockwork, I'll maybe make $20. It's not worth the effort. The consignment store you want to be dropping your items off at is Expressions in Avenida. It's more in the suburbs and definitely a bit of a drive - but my items ALWAYS sell and I make way more money there. There's clearly much more foot traffic at Expressions, and they actually return the items to you that they don't take when you drop your stuff off for consigning. At Trends, they just took my bag of items and I never knew what they took and what they didn't take, which I didn't like at all. I drop off good quality items that I would rather sell privately if they don't accept it and instead she just told me to have a good day and that they didn't sort in front of me. I'm writing about my personal experience as a shopper here in January. I am a flight attendant from the States and I love to go to secondhand/consignment shops when I travel. I thought the selection was good and the prices reasonable. The service, however, was outstanding. I was greeted warmly and the employees were attentive without being overbearing. They took the initiative to start a fitting room for me and checked on me as I shopped to continue taking items to my fitting room. I have had positive experiences consigning to Trends over the past few years. As long as you understand their consignnment policy, you should have a great experience. While they can be selective with the items they choose to take and sell, I have found the return I get is better than many other consignment stores that pay you up front. The store itself is quite organized and easy to shop in for a consignment store, but as with most, finding good items is a bit of a hit or miss. I personally have had several good experiences, such as finding special occasion dresses for under $50. Their prices can be a bit steeper than other stores, however I don't mind this as it benefits you as a consignor when you are selling your clothes. Overall, I have been happy with my experience with Trends and will continue to consign with them and stop by to shop when I am in the area. read more

Trends used to be one of my favourite shopping places until I decided to consign some of my own clothing there. As a customer, Trends is a great place to shop. Things are layed out nicely, it's easy to find designer items in your size and they have lots of unique pieces for a decent price. The staff are generally friendly and the change rooms are boutique-like, which is a nice change from the usual (gross) second-hand store ones I've been in. I've bought plenty of funky shoes and shirts from there. As a consigner, Trends failed miserably. They "lost" my entire collection of clothes and shoes. They have a policy of donating clothing that isn't top quality, but they didn't even know where my order went. It apparently never made it into the system and was not tracked against my account. A week or two later, I found a pair of shoes on the rack that I consigned and I never saw a penny of my sale because they had "lost" my order and the shoes were attached to some other account. The exact same shoes, with the same slight mark on the heel, in the same size were consigned by another account? Riiiiiight. I felt really insulted by their lack of explanation and complete lack of investigation. I have only dropped in occasionally in the years since then if they have something nice in the window. Trends gets two stars because while the clothing selection IS good, I wonder how often they have mysteriously "lost" other consigner's items and turn a dishonest profit from it. read more

I wasn't aware of all of the issues some consigners were having with Trend. My review is based on consigning there, not shopping. Trend had a great reputation quite a few years ago, and was one of the main consignment stores in this city. I got quite turned off when they started really restricting number of drop off bags, dates, and the fact you have to book to get a cheque. Not only that, their parking lot is tiny, and there's never anywhere to park. It seems more of a hassle to get in there than I'm willing to put the effort into. I've found an awesome new place to consign my clothing, which is more than willing to take all of my bags, and you can walk right in and collect cash! read more

Something funny going on here. Brought clothes in to consign three times now. Several of the items I've brought in were brand new with tags on. Nothing I've ever brought in has passed their sorting process. It's all been thrown out or donated, so they say. This place used to be wonderful. I started going when they first opened but haven't cosigned anything for years. I recently dropped of 2 huge garbage bags and 3 garment bags worth of stuff. Some was dated so I expected it not to be consigned but when they told me they had only taken 5 of my items and the rest had gone to charity (including a $400 banana republic suede jacket that was only 2 years old and had NEVER been worn) I was shocked!! then you add the staff's complete apathy and snottiness and it's disgusting! If you're not prepared to DONATE the items you're dropping off take them somewhere else for consignment. Chances are you won't see a dime from Trend for them!! If I could assign them less than 1 star I would! I'll be closing my account. read more

I'm not a big consignment shopper and I don't enjoy sorting through racks trying to find that 'diamond in the rough', but I must say that at Trends, things are a lot less chaotic than they are at Value Village and at Winners. They have the clothes laid out expertly and it's relatively easy to find what you're looking for. The service is decent and I enjoyed the atmosphere - they had incense lit, music playing and people happily sorting through the racks. I am writing in regards to the Edmonton location, which has the same owner as Calgary Trend location. I had called early Jan for a cheque for my consignments, which they could not provide until Feb 15. On Feb 16th I went all the way there in bitterly cold weather to see they are empty. No heads up not to bother coming. The cheque was to be over $200. I was counting on that money to pay my utility bill. I guess they declared bankruptcy. I just think this business is somewhat shady, because if the Calgary location is still operational then I don't see why they are not paying their Edmonton cosigners. read more

I had only heard about Trends from friends, I had never set foot in it until the other day. The store is big, nice and open. It was also very busy. I like that they have all the tops organized by color. I did have to dig to find my size in anything. The have a reasonable amount of jeans, but everything in my size was from the Gap. The jeans went for between $30 and $85 for designer ones. There were some Seven For All Mankind's and Diesel jeans that I found, but they weren't my size. I found that they didn't have much for purses or shoes. A pair of Nine West shoes were $50, you can get them brand new for that! I found that the tops were hit and miss, there were some nice ones and some obviously worn ones. I found that even though a top was my size, they seemed to fit smaller, probably due to being cleaned and dried numerous times. So I was unsuccessful in trends. I would return to check it out again, but I can't say I will be rushing back. read more

Trends is your -almost- basic 2nd hand clothing store. The only thing that separates it from the others is how much more awesome it is! The clothes are easier to find and set-up so that if you know what you're looking for, you can find it no problem. They have an interesting selection of used clothes that seem to be a little more trendy than other places. I guess the should be trendier since the name says it all. The prices of the clothes are reasonable considering this is a privately owned place. I've noticed that other private 2nd hand stores ask for a lot more than necessary... this place doesn't. They also have an interesting selection of new clothes. I think the owner has her own line, which she sells through her store. Congrats to them for having the courage and motivation to put out their own clothes. I like Trends because it's nifty, thrifty and thriving. Every time I go it seems to be getting more and more full. Classic oldies to New goodies. I always pop into Trends when I'm in this area. I quite like it-- I noticed a few people giving the store poor reviews based on the consignment policies. I only know it as a shopper so my review will be based on that. I wasn't expecting it to have such a large selection of items. From handbags and jewelry to clothing, there is a lot to choose from. I was looking for a vintage, navy blazer with gold buttons that retails for under $50. Something I never thought I would find considering J. Crew is selling a vintage-inspired, navy blazer for $200. But guess what? Trends had it and had it for $40! See what I mean when I say they have a wide variety of things? What really caught my eye was the selection beautiful dresses and jumpsuits. There was a great selection for different occasions-- fancy, casual, day or night wear. I think if you are shopping for something to wear to a wedding-- browse Trends first. I even enjoyed the way the store was organized. It is done by colours, style and by size. There was a thoughtful display of current 'Trends' placed at the front. I thought that this was a cute idea and I almost bought another pair of ripped jeans shorts because of it. Great marketing, eh?!?! Trends is located in the "walking district" of our city, so if you're driving down you most likely will have to pay for parking. Also, if you're looking for thrift store pricing-- Trends is a bit more expensive than that. But overall, definitely worth a peek! read more

You know a real good way to get around shady consignment methodologies? Don't consign! Not going to wear the items in the back of your closet anymore? Give them away- half of them will go to the Drop In Centre or something anyways if they can't be sold at a shop. Hell, get in touch with me, I could probably list a handful of local women's groups right now that could really use some hand me downs. Want to take the risk anyways? Drop your clothes off at Trends so I can shop them. I find Trends a pretty decent consignment store in the city as a consumer. They manage to group their clothing by colour, which I find very visually pleasing. Pricing is mostly fair, from what I've purchased. And, if I think a used item of clothing is too much, I simply don't buy it. I love the concept of second hand clothing and resisting the consumption of new clothes at a mall or some other soul sucking institution when I could check Trends first. Plus, when I was at Market Collective last, they stopped by at all the vendor's tables with vouchers which I thought was super sweet of them, to get involved with a local community event. Just another reminder to pay a visit or two in the near future. If you are looking for "vintage" consignment, you probably won't find it here. I've noticed Trends provides mostly mid-range, modern brands- Banana Republic, Tahlua, Jacobs, etc with a few exceptions. I am not the hugest shopper at all, but when in Kensington, I like to stop by Trends and see what they have to offer. read more

I LOVE THIS STORE! Great customer service, free drinks, and DOGS (heart eyes emoji)!! The type A part of me also really appreciates the color coding organization. I wear only a couple colors, and it's way more enjoyable to shop when I don't have to flip through an entire rack. They also have great deals on Lululemon stuff ($40ish for pants), and Aritzia brands (I scored a Wilfred dress for like $35)! So cheap. When I first signed up with Trend, I was kind of annoyed because they weren't taking some of my items, but then they explained that anything "fast fashion" (H&M, Ardene, etc.) is sent on, so now I just drop that off in a separate bag for charity. 10/10 would recommend this place for consigning, and for shopping. read more

Although it's in a prime area, and the clothes are organized well, Trend is the worst consignment store in the city. Like many other consignors' reviews, they lost my items and supposedly put items under another account # that was one digit off from mine. How does this happen? That's exactly what I asked when I came in the store to recover my items and I didn't get an answer. Somebody else got the benefit of my consigned items. I was furious, and was forced to "search the floor to find my items" so I could try to to take home whatever was left. Ridiculous. Avoid Trends at all cost!!!!!!!!!! read more

I am very disappointed in the store. For people to sathat say you don't understand why we are complaining let me explain my experience. First of all some people are selling their clothes because they have no choice but to pay bills due to financial hardship or whatever. The economy isn't doing so well here in Alberta ! Some people are selling to get food! The owner took our money and was concerned with her own bills. Think about it she got the money as soon as the customer handed her the cash. She should have paid us the customer and took her cut. Instead it was all taken. I have gone through my closet and I am one of those people who needed the money to "catch up" on bills. I gave up things that I knew would sell and made over $300. I brought in purses, jewelry, shoes and clothes. I don't know about you guys ....but I have a hard time giving my clothes away. I worked hard to get these items but when you need to play "catch up", we sell things of value to survive. So I asked for my cheque a couple months ago and went to drop off two more bags I believe February and asked for my cheque. The cheque Wasn't ready, this was the second request to have what was owed to me. So I attempted to call and ensure this time when I stopped by it would was ready. Call failed. I tried so many times and said maybe they don't know their phone isn't working. So I called the Calgary store... I was shocked when they said they are different owners and they don't know anything. Wait how is that even possible? So you are managed by the same manager but know nothing ??? Strange and shady. They have all my information phone and even address and never even made a call explaining that they were closed. Now reading these posts and seeing that others that have be stolen from and cheated out of money are saying it's the same owner??? What ??? They are lying to me on the phone saying it's a different owner?? They take you name and say the owner will call you back. Never happens no call back and every time you call they act like they know nothing. I kindly said I need to know if I'm getting a cheque because I have cut off dates for bills and if not I have to sell other things to make up for the loss. They say sorry we don't know anything the owner will call back. Does the owner have a name ?? Ally stated her name is Donna. I called the BBB( better business bureau) ! Www.bbb.org and everyone that has been affected can do a online complaint and maybe we all can have something done. When you do the complaint you have to pick the Calgary location because that is where BBB will send the complaint since they closed down and kept other people property. Let's stand together. I mean Donna had the opportunity to be a honest, responsible, and respectful and failed big time. This is not very nice as a business owner to treat her customers that put food on her table and pay her rent and she just took off without warning. She took away money that we potentially needed for food, rent etc. This is disgusting behaviour and if we all stand together we can get something done. So please go to www. It's worth a shot and this will only work with numbers meaning the more that complain the better complaint we have together Also is cheaper then small claims court !! This is wrongful doing and with people standing together we can get something done. I mean maybe she is suffering from financial hardship but this is stealing from people and I'm sure none of us deserved this treatment and shock !! A simple courtesy call explaining that the business had to close and a reason would be better then lies and saying the owner will call by the end of the day.... 45 mins left to wait before I press send ! I gave Donna a fair chance to make this right . And she choose this behaviour !! read more

Where to start with Trend... I was just there on Saturday, and as I often do, had a wonderful shopping experience. I've been coming here for years, and rarely leave the store empty handed. On one occasion I found a pair of Paige Premium Denim jeans for $35, score! The staff are really helpful, and their effort & friendliness is certainly more than second-hand. The layout is nice, quite spacious, and well organized. They have jewellery cases, and high-end items are neatly segregated. So why the 3 stars? As a consignor, I've had less than lovely experiences with Trend. They take weeks (up to 5), to bring your items into store inventory, and on at least three separate occasions they've lost items. I'm not talking cotton t-shirts worth $20, I mean leather handbags & designer sunglasses. And I keep going back because... I truly believe they're the best consignment shop in the city. They have a lot of stock, awesome staff, and they price items fairly. Obviously they need stay in business & make money for the consignors, but they make a full-outfit makeover possible on a $150 budget. Love/Hate Relationship I suppose. During my last visit another consignor came in with a few boxes of high-ticket goods. She made a point of taking certain items out and showing the staff, in a friendly "I know these $1000 shoes are in here, so I'd better see them on the shelf in a few weeks, capisce?" kinda way... :) Could be a good tip for you fashionistas. I went in yesterday, February 27th, a month and 10 days after I dropped off my items to be consigned. I wanted to see out of curiosity if my items were there and what do you know, three of my earring and necklace sets are being sold along with a bracelet. But the manager on staff still says the rest was sent for donation. BS! What a bunch of thieves! read more

I'm not sure why there are so many negative reviews on consigning here. Over the last two months I have taken two garbage bags of clothes to Trends and only one of my items (a pair of jeans) has not made it onto the floor (I have middle of the road brands from Banana Republic and Aritzia mostly.. Nothing super high end). They take up to four weeks to process items you drop off but I prefer consigning here over Peacock Boutique down the road because you can track your items online (rather than having to call and check every few weeks) and they price their items waaaay better (more return for the consigner!). I think the people that are having issues with their items not being accepted are probably dropping off things that won't appeal to the Trend clientele (which is mainly younger people I think!) read more

I sure miss Pendulum. I have been consigning my clothes for close to 15 years and the whole experience for me was poor. I never actually saw my clothes on the racks, an managed a $60.00 cheque 5 months after my "good pieces"had sold. I had all designer labels , leather shoes and bags, in 2 large Ikea blue bags packed full of seasonal merchandise. I will be closing my account. i had heard such good things about Trendzs, can't say the same, and the girls all seem to be having bad and t days when ever i have been there, totally apathy to the clients. read more

Where does second-hand clothing shopping make sense? At Trend of course. Most of the stuff here is hand-selected to still be cool enough to wear but at a fraction of the price. I went looking for a cute lil vest to wear over tank tops this summer and though they had what I wanted, I didn't quite find my size. Much of the selection is colour-coded, especially shirts so you can bypass the colours that make you look jaundiced. I've never been a fan of second-hand footwear but I admit, the selection of shoes is surprisingly pretty good. I found a dress and pants to try on and had the sizes been right, I would have been sold. Much superior to Value Village for modernity, check it out when you're on a budget or bring in your tired-of-duds to make a lil extra moula. read more

DO NOT CONSIGN YOUR STUFF HERE. I dropped off 2 large bags of designer items. They claimed to have kept 1 item. There were about 4 pairs of brand new 7 jeans and much more. Never bring my things here again... WORST consignment shop ever ! ! I thought I'd give them a try, but never again ! They only got one start because there isn't a button to boo them off . . . They are season specific so I took them some late fall, winter things, they had them for 5 weeks BEFORE they put them on the floor ! They only keep them for a month so they wasted critical 'seasonal' time... They don't let you collect the things they decide not to put on the floor because "they have 36 000 customers and that would be far to much work you know". I was a bit weary but thought OK, the not put on floor items go to the women's shelters so I wasn't too worried. Also I had to big dustbin bags of clothes, shoes, boots etc. Several of the items I bought in were brand new with tags on. Full leather black boots that had NEVER been worn, an example. I new all my articles were current, expensive and in good taste... Call back after a month they said. I did and they hadn't even come up to the floor. Call back in two weeks, I did, they had just come up, the week before. Call back on 17th and we'll tell you what was sold and see if there is anything I'd like to collect (I said absolutely as ALL my friends wanted whatever I couldn't get money for. That's reasonable, right? After all, the only 'don't' consign the shitty, non current, Walmart equivalents....) I call back to be told that they only kept 2 items (from my two huge dustbin bags, new leather boots???? $300 designer pants?) and neither of them had sold. I have been consigning at Trend for 16 years. Unfortunately the owner has come back to work in the store full time and I had the displeasure of meeting her for the first time this past Monday. I will never be back in this store after my experience with her. As I said, I have been consigning for 16 years and have made the store thousands of dollars over the years. I went in because my current batch of items was going to expire soon. I spoke to a girl at the counter who said that my items never expire so not to worry and to leave them on the floor. This is a policy that has changed back and forth over the years and I was worried that if I left my stuff on the floor as the girl said to do, it would get pulled and disposed of in a couple of days. Since the owner was there and she sets the policy, I asked her if it was okay to proceed as the girl had said by leaving my stuff on the floor. She said "No, go gather up your things. If it hasn't sold after a month of being on the floor it's not going to" which is not the case in my past experience at the store. I asked her if I could gather my things and reconsign (put them back through the sorting process and have them placed back on the sales floor once they were resorted) and she said "No, that is a make work project for my staff. It'll take an hour for my staff to gather your things. Here is a list of what you have on the floor, go gather it up". So then I asked if my only option was to take my stuff home today, and my expression changed to one of unhappiness, which was justifiable under the circumstances. She said "Yes, that is our policy and I have lots of people who are getting disgruntled with it just like you are now. Go get your things. I'll help you gather them up". I told her I didn't need her help and got my stuff. She then went to the back of the store and made a snarky comment about me to the woman working at the back counter. I have no respect for a business owner who calls their loyal consignors names and speaks rudely about them in front of their faces and who can't make any sort of exceptions for someone who has made them a lot of money over the years. I get that there is limited space but perhaps set a policy that for "VICs" ("Very Important Consignors" as the store refers to me and others like me) that their items can stay on the floor for 2 or 3 months rather than one month like everyone else's stuff. The owner is rude and entitled and acts like she is doing you a favor by making money off of your things. I gathered up my items and took them 2 doors down to Kensington Konsignment where the owner was very nice and accommodating. Trend Fashions isn't the only consignment store in Calgary, and I'm guessing that they are having problems keeping afloat. Otherwise why would an absentee owner come back to work full time after not being around for 16 years? Anyway, looks like your days are numbered and I can understand why by the way that you treat people. The best thing to do would be for the owner to stay as far away as possible from her store. I have never been treated with anything but respect in my dealings with hired staff over the years, but if the owner can't be professional then she can't make money off of me anymore. read more

I agree with the other bad reviews. First off the customer service was non existent and fairly rude. I stood there for at least 5 minutes with no eye contact and was walked by 3 times like I didn't exist. When they did deal with me they was cold and I didn't feel a good vibe at all. I found the store itself to be in blah condition. I've seen other consignment stores with amazing merchandizing skills and modern design. Trends was dark and unappealing and I don't think I would want to shop there. I brought in about 15 items in decent condition. Yes some items that weren't current style or worn I assumed would be donated but they only chose 2 items out of the lot (and it took 3 weeks to even know this), I was shocked. Then I read the other reviews and realized this icky feeling I have over the whole thing is common at Trends. It takes a while for them to go through your stuff and get your account online and I don't like the auto donation policy at all (but I was a first time consignor there so live and learn I guess). So unaccommodating! My mom bought me a coat from there yesterday and when she brought it home to me I put it on and it was way too itchy for me. I called this morning about their return policy and immediately was told no we don't do that! I understand if I bought something and wore it a bunch but in this case I didn't even wear it once.
