We randomly found Tres Amigos in Cheyenne, WY while passing through on our way to other states, and it turned out to be such a great surprise! The place looked neat, well-maintained, and had a welcoming vibe. It filled up quickly, which is always a good sign. The food was excellent -- some of the best Mexican I've had in a long time. The chile relleno was absolutely delicious (I got the fried version and loved it), and the chori pollo was packed with flavor and spice, with chorizo that really stood out. They started us off with fresh table chips and three different sides, which was a fun touch. We finished our meal with a smooth and sweet flan dessert, the perfect ending to a great lunch. If you're ever passing through Cheyenne, I definitely recommend stopping at Tres Amigos for authentic and flavorful Mexican food!

Vegan Spinach Enchiladas (order without cheese or sour cream to make Vegan)

One of the few Mexican restaurants where I can get vegetarian options. I now get those same items vegan by telling the server to remove the dairy (cheese and sour cream), and picking sauces which contain no dairy. This on my favorites list in Cheyenne. While the refried beans are cooked with lard, the black beans are vegetarian, as is the rice. It's rare to find a Mexican restaurant that does not have chicken stock in their rice. This is one of the few. I've eaten here for about since this location opened, and the other location since it opened about 3 years ago. While they serve breakfast, they don't open until 11 AM. The dinners I've had here are enjoyable. We really like their mushroom salsa. Yep, mushroom salsa. Their regular salsa is very good. If you want more intense ask for habanero sauce on the side. I appreciate their chip aren't too salty. There barely is salt on them. Too often tortilla chips are way over salted. The are also one of the few place which make Original Margaritas correctly: lime juice, Contreaun, Triple Sec, and Tequila, nothing else other than ice. They have other variation for those who like them, but finding a correctly made Original Margarita is about as rare as finding Mexican Rice without chicken stock.

    Fiesta burrito and Pollo Fundido

We had the Pollo Fundido (which has two chicken breasts and my wife had plenty for breakfast the next morning) and the Fiesta Burrito with the chorizo as the meat. The chorizo had a $3 add charge but was worth it. Excellent chorizo! The chips and salsa and mushroom salsa and bean dip were a great start. First time I actually enjoyed a bean dip. But the mushroom salsa was a first for us and was great. Decor is standard Mexican restaurant style. The service by Shiomara was excellent. Food came out hot and well presented. For early on a Thursday night the place filled up quickly so go a little early.

I was in Cheyenne WY on Saturday for work and had a craving for Mexican food. I wasn't to sure what I would get being in Wyoming but I was very pleasantly surprised. Pulling up this place has a little strange location in a dark somewhat paved parking lot between 2 hotels. Inside however very open and spacious place inside plus super clean. The hostess that met me was super friendly and hit me seated, but I will say this place was very busy. If you ever read my reviews of Mexican food I always judge the chips and salsa 1st. The chips were fresh and warm. The red salsa was very good, but if I was them I would skip the beans and strange mushroom salsa as a way to save some money. Overall tasty chips and salsa. For food I had the chicken and steak fajitas. Cooked perfectly and had great flavors. Served with warm tortillas and a very generous side dish of condiments. Overall great meal and very pleasantly surprised. I would for sure come back on another trip through the area.

The 3 sides with the chips, regular salsa, doctored refried beans and the mushroom salsa.

I came in 45 minutes before closing and they didn't bat an eye at sitting me. A minute later I had chips and three sides, their version of salsa, refried beans and then a first for me mushroom salsa. Their version of "regular" salsa is very different than the typical salsa at home, and had better flavor in my opinion. I really liked it. Then I hit the refried beans. They have done something extra with these too. Very creamy and flavorful. I should have taken Heidi my waitress up on a second bowl of them but didn't want to fill up on chips. I have never heard of mushroom salsa. I like mushrooms and this didn't disappoint either. I can't wait to tell my wife and friends about the mushroom salsa My dinner was the shrimp, mushroom, onions cooked in a garlic sauce. It too was incredible! Served a little different than what I get at home but for the better! Heidi was my waitress. Washed was amazing. She checked on me several times to see if I wanted or needed anything. I asked for one thing and she immediately provided it. It not a busy place and Heidi could have coasted to the end of the night. I watched her buzz all 4 or 5 of her tables checking on them and brining what ever they requested. She was on it and provided awesome service! If I'm lucky enough to be in town again, I will be sure to have a meal here and hope to be served by Heidi! The restaurant was very clean, well lit and the background music just loud enough to conceal neighboring tables conversation but not so loud for a private conversation at your table.

The food was okay. The staff was marginally friendly-ish. The cocktails had no alcohol in them.

We ordered enchiladas, and they came with an extremely spicy sauce. I asked if the enchiladas could be remade without the spicy sauce, and I was told no. The chips were cold and soggy. The salsa served with the chips is more of a tomato paste with hardly any other ingredients inside. The neighboring table asked the waitress about the salsa, and her response was, "Well, each chef makes things a little differently." The waitress just shrugged off the complaint and then walked away from their table. The refried beans tasted like they came out of a can, the rice had more white than Spanish in it, and the Barbacoa was beyond salty and not edible. The soup was delicious. I ate here a few months ago, and I thought it was one of the best places in Cheyenne to eat. But now I wouldn't recommend it. The restaurant was clean and pleasantly decorated . The music normally is a mellow, upbeat, religious tune; however, there was more hip-hop-style music playing, and the volume varied from low to high to total silence. Did I mention the service and the food were terrible? I went from recommending this place to not recommending it. I will probably never go there again.
