They do not stand by their workmanship AT ALL. So sad, it looked like such a beautiful home before we moved in. Update as of 5/4/2021: As we start to come out of the COVID pandemic services are slowly improving. I do not think it is in response to my review alone. I bumped them up another star for making attempts to fulfill warranty obligations. I mean, they say you have a "whole home" warranty for a year after you sign for it... leads one to sign in comfort knowing they will work to make things right. I would caution anyone dealing with a big builder like this to push back on ANYTHING that is not right at the time of signing and continue to push for anything you think is attributable to substandard products or workmanship.

John Anderson became our customer rep in replace of Kathleen starting January. Ever since then, our requests have been indefinitely unresponsive. John Anderson wouldn't reply any emails until many weeks later and 2-3 additional urges. Any contractor visit wouldn't be scheduled until 4-6 weeks later, if ever. The fastest email response I received from John Anderson was he trying to collect a disclaimer from me, asking me to voluntarily give up the HVAC warranty. For the latest request, the latest update I got from John Anderson was from 5 weeks ago. Today I tried to email him again but received an automated message saying he's no longer in the company. Then Anna Larsen became the representative, and the nightmare continues. Not only was the transition messy, but also Anna was unable to understand the situation in a rational way. Our conversation was like: Me: Puget Heating charged me something that should be covered by warranty. Anna: John said you need to pay for it. Me: But that's something you promised to do in an earlier work order and the contractor just didn't do it for no reason. Here's the proof. Anna: But John said you need to pay for it. No more argument. Case closed. Go pay for it. We're not going to cover.

Initially we talked with three general contractors, the first quoted a price that was double our budget, the second was a flake that failed to show up with meetings with our architect, the third could meet our budget as long as we didn't built the shop. At that point, frustrated, we decided to sell the lot. It was listed and we started a search for existing homes with our realtor. One home, a spec home built by Jay Kobza, was exactly what we wanted but it already had a pending offer and it was accepted before we could make one. Our realtor called Jay and spoke with him about our desire to build. He said he could build the house and shop on our budget. We were very impressed after talking with him so we canceled the listing on our lot and built! The building process was great. He shielded us from Thurston Counties bizarre over-regulation. His site manager, Shane, kept on top of things and communicated well with us and the subs. They have an excellent collection of subs to do the work and most have worked with him for years. Each sub respects Jay's quest for quality and they all like each other - which is a great formula for a quality home. Having built a home before, I know a fair amount about home building, and I was mightily impressed - framing was top notch, good quality materials installed straight, plumb and square. Siding was as good as could be, the siding crew was meticulous. Electricians were eager to please. The hardwood floor, tile and trim carpenters were spectacular. Every step of the way was quality. At the beginning of construction I told Jay and Shane that we wanted to still be on good terms with them after the home was built. We accomplished that goal and it was easy. A lot of people who build homes say they would never build another one. With Jay on your team you won't say that. His organization is top notch and we are very pleased to give him our highest possible recommendation.
