I only had kids in recreational programs here, so I can't comment on the competitive ones. My girls started here with the parent and toy program before covid. From there they took one mini stats class before the shut down. Then we were on pause for some time and we found our way back after the dust settled about two years ago. Ever since then it hasn't been the same. Whether it is a feeling with some coaches that (he) only has time to work with those who might be potential competitors, to very repetitive and non- progressive skills over months of time, it got to be very discouraging for the girls. Add to that an insane and chaotic parking situation and I'm out. Literally every week, entitled people would block all traffic in the back so they could walk their special snowflake inside the building instead of parking like the rest of us. Others would drive the wrong way on a clearly marked one way path. By the time you got to the exit and had to make a blind left turn onto Circle, you need a drink. read more

High-quality, competitive gymnastics gym with a focus on technique. Our 5-year-old has two classes here, and he loves it. There is/was open gym for like $5.00. It was a great way for him to expend energy in a unique setting. Unfortunately we'll be moving soon so we won't be able to consistently patronize this gym. The instructors here are young but very patient. My daughter loves coming here and I think the price is reasonable. I really love that they have such a huge schedule so you can always find a class that fits your schedule. It's close to home and we love it. Both of my kids have taken classes at Tri-star (daughter 7, son 3) and loved it! The coaches are fun, energetic and love to teach. While my kids didn't participate in the competitive gymnastics teams, friends and neighbor's kids did and were throughly happy with the coaching and instruction. Tri-star offer a parents night out event every month which was a great way for my husband and I to have an affordable night out while the kids had fun and burned off some energy!!! They would beg to go every month! Also, the gym does a really cool show at the end of the year where the classes do a performance in front of all the parents. It was like a dance recital for gymnastics! I really enjoyed the opportunity to see my daughter perform and show off a few of her skills! My family recently moved out of state, but if we ever return to the area, I would definitely choose Tri-star if my kids wanted to participate in gymnastic. read more

This gym is great. My daughter currently attends and cannot wait until gymnastics day every week. The coaches are wonderful and you can tell how much experience they have behind them. They are great with kids and understand that many of them have a minimal attention span. The equipment is all in good shape and there is a lot of it. Multiple balance beams, uneven bars, rings, trampolines, the pit.. Everything you can picture a gymnast using is here. The bathroom is always clean and have a changing table for younger siblings. If you miss a day you can make it up, and you can see your child improve very quickly. Progress reports let you know where your child is at physically and coaches are there if you have any questions. They keep my daughter's attention and as long as she stays interested in gymnastics we will never leave this place. read more

We just had my son's 6th birthday party at Tri-Star, and it was terrific. There were just under 25 kids ranging from 5-9 years old and everyone had a great time. The staff were kind and helpful and really kept the kids enjoying themselves throughout their time at the gym. They did an obstacle course, some parachute play, trampoline, and some other things that i don't know how to describe. Super fun. Though it wasn't cheap (no organized destination party is) it was absolutely a blast and I have no regrets. read more

My daughter took a class here and so far so good. This gym has a lot going on "after hours" for children and gymnastics. They have family fun time every Saturday, their parent clubs are pretty active, raising money for the teams to go to camp or something else, etc. The gym doesn't seem snobby and the coaches are really good - they even have private coaching lessons if you want. Love this gym and coach Nikki!! She's amazing with my daughter! We actually live in Lakeview and I had my daughter at the local place IK which was terrible. My daughter is somewhat of an introvert so it was very hard to get her to participate but after she had coach Nikki she didn't want ANYONE else or anywhere else. Which is fine because she's so great with my daughter. Worth the 10 mile drive every week!! She's learned so much and practices on her own anywhere we are sometimes in the street! I've always felt that gymnastics was such a great sport because of the total body strength you build from it. If you are scouting local gyms look no more. Parking is easy, it's right off I-290 and the prices are very reasonable! Should be Five-star gymnastics instead! ;) read more

My most recent interactions with the gym have been less than stellar. Phone calls and current teachers with my daughters class are a C.

This place is great. Both of my girls ( 3 & 5 ) have been into gymnastics since they where 1 ( starting at My Gym ). We transferred to Tri-Star for more challenge and more skills then what My Gym can offer. We are absolutely happy with our choice. Coaches are great, they do pay individual attention, make sure your kids repeat the routines correctly, encourage kids and recognize their progress. The bleachers area is great for adults to watch their kids hard work and fun they have during the class. I also want to make a little correction about the comment below regarding the Gym Show. It's true there are many kids that participate in the event. Yes, the wait may be little boring especially for the youngest participants. At the end of the day they are very proud of their achievement as well as the medal they all receive. The kids also have a chance to grow their confidence performing in front of a large public which is essential if anyone is serious perusing gymnastics to the competition level. As far as safety goes during the event... Well let's start from the fact that each group had two adults volunteers to stay with the kids at all times. Any parent is welcome to volunteer during the event and the coaches keep begging parents for weeks and nobody wants to do it. Parents are instructed to drop of their kids at the waiting room but many people show up late or let their kids walk by themselves and of course kids do get lost since they don't know where to go. While in waiting room besides the volunteers there are also older gymnasts helping the little kids get ready. When in bleachers waiting for their performance there are again two adults per each group watching the kids at all times. If a bathroom trip is needed one of the volunteers takes a group of kids with them and the other stays with the rest of the group. After their performance all kids got back to bleachers where the volunteers had to wait forever for parents, that were busy talking to their friends or watching the rest of so "boring" show, to claim their children. Coaches put a lot of time and effort to make the show a great event and unfortunately they don't get much help from the parents who on top of being unappreciative complain about the $5 entrance fee. read more

I really used to love it here. My kids attended for 8 years, but in that time it has really changed from a place where you felt like family to more of a gymnastics factory. The coaches turn over very frequently and they really aren't able to give each kid individual attention. My boys enjoyed the team there but all the coaches left. After getting advice from friends my daughter now attends another smaller program where she gets much more individual attention and has improved a lot. read more

Very satisfied. My son has enrolled in a fall and spring session. He loves it, although he well, not a gifted gymnast, if you know what I mean, they make him feel really great, and help him get better each time. His strength is building, his confidence too. I would give it a 5 but, the only waiting area for is a metal stadium bench and sometimes I smell feet. but, I guess when you have a bunch of people with no shoes on, these things tend to happen. Neither of these two things should factor into your decision though. I am updating regarding their show, and changing my rating from 4 stars to 3 - but only because of their annual show. The classes are good, and have had my son go to a birthday party there and it was really fun, but if you have a young child, I strongly recommend that you NOT participate in their annual show. An older child is probably better suited to the heat and boredom and waiting. Here is my hastily written review of this weekend Reaching For The Stars event. As we were waiting in line to purchase admission tickets, a woman came thru collecting children that were to be in the show, she said if we hadn't paid admissions yet, we needed to pay and she would bring them to the meeting area. They needed that additional 5 bucks out of me I guess. So after about 5 or 7 minutes, I pay, buy my stapled together black and white 5.00 book and head off to get a seat. But wait, what do I see? My 6 year old boy... Wandering around the crowded field house unaccompanied - It was so crowded it was very easy to get separated. I gather him up and bring him to the meeting area where the lady who took control of him didn't even look like she counted the kids in her care at all, oblivious that my son was wandering. There I found several 5 and 6 year olds, maybe younger, also wandering lost and I helped them to find their names on the signs. In the hot gym, there was a shortage of coaches, and kids left to find their own way around, nobody to talk to them or anything, I am now seriously peeved. My son is quite bored and fidgety. Little does he know this is the fun part. My sons portion of the show was near the end, so all of the children are led into the field house, they all do a bow, and sit in the East bleachers. There they sit, literally over a hundred children, sitting in bleachers - again with no adult supervision. There was one parent volunteer on one end, and I think, another on another end - with about 150 or more kids on bleachers between. The parent (who I believe was rounded up last minute) spent most of the time hanging over the rail speaking with a man, who I think was her husband. During the close to two hours these kids were made to sit in the bleachers, bored, I witnessed quite a number of acts of which you might imagine bored 5 to 8 year old kids would start doing to each other. One dark haired girl in a red leotard shoved another girl so hard she fell out of her seat. This was after at least 10 minutes of pushing and taunting (and not in fun) between the two. There was a boy kicking my son in the back repeatedly. With no intervention, I had to make my way down the bleachers, across the field house to tell some woman sitting at a table hawking more stuff. I saw another boy just wailing in tears crying about something. They had plenty of people working the front door hawking the booklets, and selling the tickets to get in, and others walking the bleachers selling raffle tickets. Too bad there were none to attend to the children. read more

I'm not satisfied with this gym. I was a gymnast here during my off season one year. The coaches do not pay individual attention to the gymnasts. As a matter of fact, they pay more attention to the best gymnasts in the gym rather then helping everyone out. The coaches do not like to spot. Some are too frail and old, and some seem like they don't know how. I was working back walkovers on beam and asked for help, a simple hand to be there. The coach said, "I don't spot" and walked away. It was so rude! I would imagine any good gym would have coaches with proper training and gym etiquette. I'm almost positive the coaches gossip about the participants. They are very immature. One main coach, Eric, is extremely rude and sarcastic to the gymnasts. He has no sensitivity whatsoever. The gym does not have an air conditioner. The summers are hot and it isn't hard to pass out, especially when working hard. I started gymnastics my freshman year and this was my first gym. I didn't get paid much attention and only learned a round off flip flop. I switched to flying high and became a level 7 gymnast in about a year. I now compete varsity at my school. Do not go to this gym!!! read more

Just finished a winter session. Have 4 year old twin daughters. Class was TOO strict. Coaches acted like they were bothered to be there. Stamps were withheld at end of. Class if kids misbehaved and mid year"testing" reviews were written and awful. Made me have zero desire to continue. No communication and was not a fun environment for young kids read more

This place is great. Check it out one time and you'll quickly be a convert. Wonderful and challenging gymnastics program for younger kids. My five year old is already working on the horse, trampoline, rings -- sort of unbelievable what they can get these kids to do. My 3 year old loves it as well and has mastered some basic floor work. The instructors are engaged with the kids -- never see any kids crying because they don't want to leave their mom or dad -- which you see everywhere when dropping off for lessons. Typically, the parents are trying to keep up with their kids as they are running toward the class. Very reasonably priced, plus they offer parents night out one saturday a month where you can drop your kids off for a night of gymnastics, movies and pizza and pick them up by 10. Coaches give really detailed regular reports of child's progress - what they are working on, where they've improved. And it just looks fun -- big obstacle courses to run, trampolines, jumping pits. Plus, parents can drop their kids off or stay and watch from the bleachers. So glad I found it. read more

My girls took lessons here for years. The gym, coaches and facilities are awesome. Recenly my 17 year old wanted to have her birthday party here. Coach Chris and Coach Nikki are inredible and did a wonderful job with a group of 20 teenage girls. The girls said it was a total blast and I was so glad we planned it at Tristar. read more

My children have attended this gym for years. My oldest child is now 21. For years , it was well run and a good program. In the last year, there has been a tremendous decline in the Boys team coaching. There has been a change in Gym leadership. We are so disappointed. I cannot address the younger children programs or those programs for girls. My son has participated in Team since he was invited to participate and he has done Team for many years. Now he is a typical teenager who does need direction at times, but the current Boys team coach is hurtful and far from helpful. We have repeatedly requested assistance from the owners but the poor coaching has persisted. Since my son's high school does not have gymnastics, his sport may need to end. It is not appropriate for coaches to humiliate and degrade a teenager for anything. Please consider this post before joining boys team. This is a very sad post to write. read more
