I've had a great experience with Triad Reef Critters now Triad Aquatic Critters over the years. They handled moving my entire reef tank from one house to another, and anyone in the hobby knows that's no small task. During the move, they noticed my plumbing setup wasn't ideal and completely redid it, which has been a huge improvement. Unfortunately, I did lose three fish during the move, but they stood behind their work and gave me a livestock credit without any hassle. That level of customer service says a lot. Their prices seem to be right in line with other local fish stores. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that right before they relocated, I purchased a few replacement fish and lost two of them within a week while they were in my quarantine tank. To be fair, losses can happen with any fish store, and that's just part of the reefing hobby. What has always stood out to me is how informative, honest, and courteous the staff is. They're willing to answer questions, offer advice, and genuinely help hobbyists succeed. I haven't had a chance to visit their new location yet, but I definitely plan to soon. We have been return customers here for a while now. The employees are very knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Their store and aquariums are incredibly clean. Every fish and invert I have gotten has thrived. The selection of salt water and fresh water fish/inverts is wonderful! They also have a great selection of frozen fish foods, aquarium supplies and beautiful aquariums. They have the best betta set up I have seen in a store. Their bettas are sourced directly from the breeder which means they have a stunning selection. There is an in store rewards program as well. Very good selection of saltwater care products. There are a good variety of invertebrates to choose from. The coral selection is also varied and beautiful. I enjoyed this shop and the atmosphere inside was pleasant. A staff member made their rounds to each customer to see if they wanted help yet. I read all the reviews on Yelp before visiting and it is clear to me that only people with a chip on their shoulder, maybe competitors in business, are posting such negative "stories". And that is the problem with bad attitudes, you will never be successful until you fix your attitude first. read more

So I went here about two months ago. At the time I had just been given two large goldfish in a tank they had out grown. I went from a 10 to a 30 gallon and wanted to add a few more friends in. Wanting to get information about my new set up and recommendations on other fish to put in with the tanks I ended up here. When I started asking questions, the girl working went to go get this guy named DAVID. Rather than answering any of my questions, David was annoyed to see me. This old guy wanted nothing to do with me and wouldnt answer any of my questions directly on top of rolling his eyes with every statement he made. After telling me that there was NO WAY to house anything with a goldfish, he proceeded to tell me (very rudely) that he wasnt going to argue with me when I was just asking questions. As a beginner trying to learn about a new hobby I was pretty upset. No explanation past they produce more ammonia and will kill everything else. Fast forward: I have a 30 gal tank with a canister filter circulation 100g/h. I've got some lucky bamboo currently thriving, and guppy grass on the way. My fish are doing great (all of them bought from petsmart). Moral of the story, my angelfish, beta, 2 goldfish, rainbowshark, 8 bluebolt shrimp and pleco are doing FANTASTIC 3 months later. And if you're looking for good people to buy from; they're not at this location because they can't be bothered to answer questions. read more

I have shopped here for going on a year now . In that time, I've learned to only buy hardgoods there , NOT livestock. I use Red Sea chemicals and salt - the prices here are the same as BRS so I'd rather support a local store then an internet company. However, 95% of the livestock that I have purchased here has died within days. I am an experienced reefer and know how to transport, acclimate and sustain fish and corals. For months they had an outbreak and about half of all their saltwter tanks were down while they tried to cure whatever it was that contaminated the tanks. On every visit , I can find a dead fish and I point it out so they can remove it - such a bad impression. Its a shame really as the store is clean and organized and the staff is friendly enough. Their prices on livestock are high also and there are better, more reasonable stores within driving distance. Beware and just don't buy any livestock there !! read more

Been going here for around three years now and I've had nothing but great service and helpful employees. I'm not going to say they have the answer for everything because no one does in the fish keeping hobby. A lot of these yelp reviews are people who are irritated about them not being able to solve the tanks issues that they are having and I feel that's an unfair way to judge them as a business. read more

Buying from them is risky. If a fish dies even on the day it is bought, too bad. "We don't refund for livestock". Unfortunately, I bought some more fish from there, the same day I was told no refunds and one of those fish dies as well. Maybe they should rename it Triad Reaper for Critters. read more

I have been going to Triad Reef critters for a while, and they did have a very good selection and was very good about taking care of customers, But when it comes to taking coral or anything in for trade, I'd advise against it, I went in once and had a few Kenya trees very healthy, but frags and one guy (One of the owners (Not Dave)) gave me 5.00 a frag, so all together for like 12 or 13 Kenya trees plus about 2 1/2 gallons of chaeto, He gave me 80.00 store credit, this time I went in and ended up dealing with Dave, and he offered me a couple lbs of rock for 35 Large Kenya trees and 2 gallons of chaeto with pods, I ended up luckily being able to trade to two 20.00 frags, he wanted to only go two 10.00 frags, But yeah, I got ripped on that one, But here is how I look at it, I lost a few Kenya trees and some chaeto for basically nothing, They lost a customer, usually I spend like no less than 50.00 a trip and normally around 100 or 200 per trip, But it's cool, There are lots of other ways, and i'd rather just order online and pay for shipping than go back, It's not so much the loss that bothers me, It's the principle of it,It has gotten to where it's all about getting something for nothing and making money, not the customers, and they are very expensive anymore for anything nice or even decent, Try your luck at Greendale, they are awesome folks read more

Despite being a clean store I have had severe problems. I bought a Coral Beauty, in which a coworker advised the other coworker helping me to not sell the fish due to it not being in quarantine long enough. The employee disregarded this and continued to try to sell me the fish. Only after I got it home, I noticed a large white polyp under its mouth. The fish promptly died a day and a half later. It started with the left fin becoming immobile and appearing to be rotting off. The next morning it was on the bottom of the tank dead, with the entire left side of it being completely white. I also noticed that the life rock I purchased on an earlier visit, contained white spiders and other hitchhikers I could not identify. I had not seen any kind of hitchhiker in my tank prior to adding the rock, but it miraculously appeared once I added the new rock. I am incredibly displease with the result of my two trips to the store, in which I dropped quite a bit of cash. Based solely on my experience with the Coral Beauty, I will not be spending any further money at this store. I just do not feel that supplying me with a quality product is what they are intending. read more

This is a great store for anyone in the hobby, the staff is very knowledgeable and will answer any questions you have about keeping saltwater or fresh water fish. They quarantine their fish longer than any other aquarium store that I have dealt with, which basically keeps you from taking a fish home that may be sick, not that you shouldn't quarantine your fish before adding them to your tank. This is probably one of the best salt water stores in the area (if not the best). The selection is great, the staff is really knowledgeable, and the owners are super nice. Sometimes their two little dogs are there, and they're adorable. They usually have some pretty great deals, too. Almost all of my staff interactions have been wonderful; they're all really helpful. There's one girl there that isn't the friendliest and actually was a little rude when I was there last, but everyone else I've encountered has been really nice. Hands down the best salt water store in the triangle area. I have been to every one in the area a number of times, and I'm willing to drive the over-an-hour commute to TRC rather than the 20-minute commute I have for the other stores in the triangle. Livestock are healthy and the prices are great. Corals range from $10 frags to very expensive, but all are well-priced for size and type of frag. Fish are all well-maintained and I have yet to have any problems with them. Prices on dry goods are great for the area - pretty much the exact price you'd pay online. Family-owned business. Immaculate tanks. Friendly and knowledgable staff who won't try to sell you something your tank/experience can't handle. I recently made a trip to Greensboro for business. I saw a lot of 5 start reviews for this business and decided since I was in the area I would stop by and check it out. I was kind of disappointed,since I was expecting a 5 star experience. Their coral tanks had some algae issues.(especially the $10 and $20 tanks), but most of their stock appeared fairly healthy. I looked around a while and asked the girl working there how big a certain coral would get(it looked small) and if it needed any special attention, she kind of snapped at me and said it would all overgrow my tank if I just let i grow and never cut it back,I could tell she was having a bad day or something. I started to just leave,but I talked to a man working there and I did purchase a couple of frags before I left. I don't think this is a bad store, but I was a little disappointed after seeing the reviews it got elsewhere. I may stop there again sometime,but next time I will know what to expect. read more
