Cherry Valley Ranch Bed & Breakfast - View from the main house

Cherry Valley Ranch Bed & Breakfast

    (7 reviews)

I just stayed at Cherry Valley for a few days for the Tucson Marathon, and I can't recommend it…read morehighly enough. The desert hills in the area are incredibly beautiful, and since the ranch is 100 acres, it feels almost completely undeveloped while you're staying there. The house also has gorgeous views of the surrounding hills. The rooms are well-decorated, very clean, and have a personal feeling and charm that you can't get in a hotel or motel. I stayed in the Manzanita room and found everything very comfortable and spacious. Finally, the owner is very warm and friendly. She made me breakfast just how I wanted it, gave me aloe for my race-induced blisters, and was generally wonderful company for the relatively little time I spent out in the living room. She was also very welcoming when I arrived despite it being 1:45 in the morning due to a delayed flight and getting a little lost on the way. Note: The front gate has a pretty small sign that can be easy to miss at night, but it's right across from a prominent sign at the entrance to Oracle State Park.

As an owner of an Arizona B&B that is in the back-country I wanted to try out this location. I…read morehave a fondness for Oracle. Finally my wife and I had a chance to be guests of the Cherry Valley Ranch. The day was perfect as one of the frequent monsoons had passed by and left the temperature of the Ranch in the low daytime 80s and quite a bit cooler at night. We stayed in one of the Casitas' for a night and enjoyed the peaceful valley and cool night temperatures. The breakfast was a very delightful mix of Mexican dishes and fruit prepaired by a local chef. As for the accommodations I suggest that there are times when not having TV, WIFI and other amenities are just what a stress releasing weekend is all about. Loved the place

Love this place, I just don't like giving 5 stars to much of anything. The proprietors are…read morecharming and friendly and really open up their home to you. The views and environs are stunning and remote enough to make you forget about the stress-ors of daily life without having the remoteness be a stress-or itself. The wildlife that CJ & Maryellen have attracted with their careful stewardship is stunning, particularly the birds. Birders will be gobsmacked and even non-birders will be able to spend hours just hanging out watching a never ending stream of visitors ranging from common to truly exotic. Now for the caveat: If for you a B&B must be frilly & Victorian & wait on you hand and foot, then this isn't the place for you. The atmosphere is based around comfort and community, not appearance and luxury. Likewise, if you prefer your wildlife to be in a magazine and your gardens to be tame, then this isn't your kind of place. This is somewhere to get away from suburbia and into the rough and ragged beauty that only the Southwest can offer.

C J has twice invited me to participate in nature walks at The Oasis (also known as "WOW Arizona"…read morefor Wild Outdoor World). He values my expertise about the local insects, but it is I who has been honored and overwhelmed by the hospitality he and Mary Ellen extend to all their guests. The Oasis manages to cater to a wide variety of clientele, from mountain bikers to amateur naturalists. I have never felt unwelcome for not being a more athletically-inclined guest (I don't even ride a bike of any kind). The grounds are a virtual Eden and the hosts know every resident plant and animal. The water and flowers (mostly native, some ornamental) attract an enormous diversity of wildlife from butterflies to birds and mammals, making it a great place to become familiar with Sonoran Desert flora and fauna while being as comfortable or adventurous as you would like to be. I find no fault with the interior accommodations, either. I like the cozy, "contemporary-rustic" feel of this place very much. The decor includes spectacular images of the wildlife seen and photographed on the scenic grounds. I slept like a baby, and woke up to..... The food! C J and Mary Ellen are very conscious of the differing nutritional needs of their guests. I'm lactose intolerant and they had lactose-free milk! That never happens! The entrees are delicious, a great treat for a "meat and potatoes" guy like me, yet still "gourmet," just not pretentious. Pleasing folks with your menu is a tough task, but The Oasis scores big here. I heartily recommend The Oasis to anyone visiting southern Arizona who wants to avoid crowded parks, see wildlife up close, and enjoy captivating conversations with the proprietors over a great meal.

Very well maintained and clean with many common foyer and gathering areas. There are six bedroom suites. I stayed in the Turquoise Room. I have stayed at old hotels before in Arizona, and this one is one of the best historic properties if looking for that Old Arizona Charm. Just stayed the night and it has been very comfortable and quiet. Noah has been an exceptional and very kind host. I will be back to this beautiful property. Will also plan to try the breakfast on my next stay in Globe, Arizona.

It was a very positive experience. Holly owns this huge historic house, and she renovated it. We met Holly but had more contact with Noa. Noa's partner is Holly's cousin. Each morning Noa cooked us delicious full breakfasts. The breakfasts had quiche/frittata/flatbread made with eggs and veggies. One day we also had blueberry muffins and English muffins. There was fresh fruit salad. The breakfasts more than enough to satisfy our appetites. Noa is an excellent creative cook. See attached photos. The first morning we had breakfast in a delightful breakfast room with windows on three sides. We looked out onto lovely lush vegetation. We had our choice of coffee or various kinds of tea. I loved sitting in this room. We would arrive early, drink coffee and read the newspaper before Noa arrived to make breakfast. The next morning we had breakfast at a very large wood dining room table that could easily have sat 20 people. This room had French doors that opened into a patio with tables and chairs. When we were there a small wedding party was taking photos on one of the outdoor patios. There are additional common spaces. There was a sitting room with chairs and books on the same ground floor as the sunny breakfast room, dining room, and kitchen. There is also a small lobby one floor up on street level next to the front door. (The building is on a hill). One afternoon we went back to the sunny cheerful breakfast room and sat there to read. The on-the-street parking is free, safe and easy to obtain. The bed and breakfast is very conveniently located on a quiet street on a small hill about two blocks from downtown. For dinner we walked to the restaurants downtown on the main street. We conveniently arrived on a First Friday of the month. There was a small celebration a couple blocks away on main street. There was a band in the afternoon or early evening (which we missed) and some craft vendors and at least one food vendor. We bought some cookies there. Every guest room in this bed and breakfast is different. Our room and my sister-in-law's room were on the second floor near eachother. There were two staircases to reach the second floor, and a quaint little sitting area in between. The decor in our room was cute. Our room had two comfortable double beds. One bed had a bedside table with a foot high reading lamp. Due to space limitations the other bed did not have a bedside table or bedside reading lamp. There was a small chandelier over that bed. The room had good lighting. However, I would have liked a bedside lamp so I could read at night without disturbing my husband. Our bathroom was huge. It had both a shower and a claw foot tub. There was a sink in the bathroom and another small sink in the bedroom. We used the tub for storage. During our visit there was no ice available that I could find. The kitchen fridge had a water dispenser but the ice dispenser was broken when we visited. An appliance repair person was planned. Our room and my sister-in-law's room had individual wall air conditioners. We had the Amethyst room. We put a few sodas in the kitchen refrigerator since our room did not have a mini fridge. Management did not complain that we took up a little space in that fridge. When we eventually return to Globe, I would like to stay here.
