The long stroll through the park to the museum is beautiful. A whole additional aspect to explore on your outing since admission to the park is included in visiting the museum and vice versa. Con: the walk through the beautiful park is LONG. Pretty, yes, but not the most convenient if you're toting multiple kids and all of their gear. Pro: the museum itself is compact and concise and has both indoor and outdoor exhibits. There's been different things each time we've been there and it's not overwhelming in terms of things to do. Con: it's compact. The interior portion is small, like just one room. Yes some cool stuff in there like the scarf chute, a grocery store, and a slide, but it's smallllll. It also appears to house the staff's fridge and personal space area. Not certain on that but that's what it looked like to me. And while there were multiple staff members standing around chatting with each other, we had no interaction with them. Overall my toddler daughter has thoroughly enjoyed herself while here and I think it's worthy of a visit, especially if you take some things into consideration. In particular I don't think this museum would be very fun to visit in the summertime with the long walk and the small interior space.

It's nice to look at the plants along the way, but would definitely recommend a stroller for littles! It's not a big museum but had an indoor area and outdoor stations. I felt that some of the areas could use some updating. For example, there was an outdoor art area with easels and no materials to paint or color with. Overall, my son had a good time. It is open 9-1 Tuesday through Sunday. Children under 5 are free but adults need to pay admission to the gardens. They also have daily story time at 930.

This is not a place for older kids, and it can get extremely busy all of a sudden. When they do get busy they often do not have enough staff to man the front counter and the stations, especially the climbing area, which causes long lines slows down participation big time resulting in wasted time. Often during spring break there was only one staff member running that whole climbing area. One thing that I cannot stand as a parent is that they require you to purchase and wear their propriety grip socks. C'mon. Grip socks are grip socks and we have a whole drawer full of grip socks from different places we've been over the years. I've never been to a place where they care which grip socks you are wearing. But if you can't find their branded socks for each kid and adult then you have to purchase another pair just to participate even if you have a handful of viable grip socks. The only mention of it online is when you go to book a date they through it on the screen all of a sudden. It's says you have to have wild Katz grip socks but doesn't exclusively say you can only use their socks. It's just dumb. Lava Island off of River Road and Orange Grove does not have that policy and is also much more suitable for both older and younger kids! This would be a solid 4 star place for younger kids if not for the hit or miss staffing causing lines and the grip sock nonsense!

I dont like going to places where you have to pay just to "observe". They always have great music playing. Smart to have water fountains for patrons to stay hydrated without having to pay extra just for water. Music choice is always superb and awesome to listen to while watching the kiddos enjoy themselves. I haven't tried one yet but I like that they also offer massage chairs so the parents can enjoy themselves too. I appreciate all the hand sanitizer stations on the floor. The employees here are pretty observant and have great attitudes. There's nothing wrong with this place in my opinion but if I could make a recommendation, perhaps adding more options to the snack counter. Other than that I enjoy coming here. They also have a lot of cool discounts on specific days which is nice.

These employees need to be better trained and should not be calling kids slurs or saying things about drinking and driving, smoking and slurs while working around children, this is unacceptable. I only gave this 2 stars because there is a lovely lady and she has always been very kind and respectful. Please hire more people like her, and fire people like the young man.

There was plenty to keep them engaged, and they never seemed to run out of things to do. My 3-year-old especially loved the outdoor bubble station. The admission price is also fantastic at just $12 per person, and I really appreciate that military families can get one child admitted free. Another thing I loved is that your admission ticket is valid for the entire day. We were able to take a break for lunch and then come back to enjoy the museum even more without rushing through everything. With affordable admission, a family-friendly atmosphere, and hands-on exhibits, this is an easy recommendation for anyone with young kids. Steam pump ranch…read more While attending a farmer's market I took advantage of the opportunity to see a really wonderful piece of Old Tucson that actually had family members from the early settlers of the ranch present to give information about the area. (We are lucky enough to have Barbara McIntyre a descendant of the early l settlers George and Mathilda Pusch. Her grandmother was one of their children. It was just very interesting to have that living history part of the museum by having the actual descendants share their perspective of early Tucson. George Pusch built the pump house in about 1875, he was very much in astute businessman and he took advantage of the local surface water to put in a steam pump and a Holding area for watering livestock. During the time cattle drives would be coming down from Tucson to the desert to get in the rail lines and of course the cattle would be very lean because they've been in the desert for a long time. He charged about 15 cents ahead for cattle to be watered which would increase their weight before they got shipped and would increase the amount of money that the cattle drovers would get for their cattle at market. Eventually they bought more land surrounding this area and at one time actually had over 15,000 cattle in the range that they were working with. They're also encounters with indigenous Apaches and the area also was famous all the way back from when Spanish settled the area for the lure of gold and there is of course a legend of a secret gold mine. He had several other business ventures including a butcher shop of course which connected into the cattle in a ice storage facility in Tucson. Mr Pusch was also a member of the Arizona territorial legislature. When he died much of the cattle operations were shutting down. In 1933 a new era in the ranch was brought on by the second significant historical family that the steam pump ranch. The Proctor family. During the prohibition area the ranch hosted several copper Homebrew mescal and sold it to locals. When Mr Jack Proctor took over the ranch many things were abandoned. At the same time he was the manager owner operator of the luxury Pioneer hotel and the owner director of Valley national bank. His hobbies were raising prize bowls and at the ranch he created a bunch of chicken farms to provide chicken and eggs to the guests of the pioneer hotel. His family also supported the original Tucson rodeo or the festival de vaqueros This area also hosted the first guest ranch in Arizona. We're also lucky to have the granddaughter of one of the proctors who lived on the ranch and was a barrel racer being one of the docents at the museum. It's her saddle that's displayed at the museum. I hope that people are motivated to learn more and go out and listen to people especially since you have the Arizona statehood celebration coming up.
