I have taught swim lessons for more than 10 years and have taught at 6 different schools in 3 different states. Triangle Swim School is by far the most professional and warm environment I have ever found in a swim school. The curriculums are well planned and the staff takes time to train and co-teach with all new instructors. This can certainly not be said for all schools. Overall this is a great swim school and I am glad we found it for our little one. The teachers are friendly and great with children. My son has excelled as a swimmer. The price is also much more affordable than other swim schools in the area. The reason for one star off is that there aren't many changing areas for babies. It was really hard for us to wait in line to change a baby so we started changing him in the car. To me this is a minor inconvenience but I know some parents have said this is a deal breaker. read more

The following is a PSA (public service announcement), For anyone looking into the Triangle Swim School (Raleigh/Cary NC), please consider my experience with owner, coach Matt Harr, who seems to have an issue with matters regarding mental health. I am a recent applicant. Early-on during my interview with Matt, he rudely interrupted to ask if I have anxiety. Needless to say, I was completely caught off guard, but respectfully admitted that I do experience some anxiety from time to time. I politely asked him why he inquired, responding, "I've been doing this for 15 years". It was confusing and the guy didn't seem terribly mean, but his questions and commentary totally derailed the interview when he went on to tell me about an ex-trainer who was dealing with anxiety. His tone shifted. Obviously, his situation didn't turn out well, so he went on to say, "I don't want to go down that road again"... Who wants to be around a judgmental, dismissive person like this? Do you or your child ever get nervous too? I'm a deserving applicant with a solid swimming background, but by that point in the interview, I knew the opportunity was spoiled. Still, what coach Matt's done is blatantly wrong, and for me, discouraging, offensive and humiliating. As a result, I feel that I can no longer be honest about my own mental health (excluding this writing). Situations like this cause dishonesty in personalities, professions and/or résumés. Sure, the guy can come up with any excuse he wants to deny applicants, but I'd advise ANY parent or those seeking a career to avoid the Triangle Swim School. Clearly, coach Matt lacks the empathy it takes to fairly treat his own staff and students, who may be dealing with their own mental health issues. (Check out the Google reviews! There's a good one from a customer whose daughter has a phobia of water). Coaches are supposed to develop confidence, not shame or embarrassment. To anyone. Additionally, Mr. Matt Harr doesn't seem to understand how unlawful discrimination works. Whether his choice to reject me was biased or seemed impractical to him, it's neither ethical, NOR LEGAL, to discriminate against mental health patients. Ask the U.S. EEOC. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ADA, Rehabilitation Act, 29 CFR Part 1630 "It is illegal for an employer to discriminate against you simply because you have a mental health condition. This includes firing you, rejecting you for a job or promotion, or forcing you to take leave." "an employer cannot rely on myths or stereotypes about your mental health condition when deciding whether you can perform a job or whether you pose a safety risk. Before an employer can reject you for a job based on your condition, it must have objective evidence that you can't perform your job duties, or that you would create a significant safety risk, even with a reasonable accommodation". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Now. Consider similar situations: the denial of 'undesirable' demographics such as race or gender might be upsetting too, right? While those examples are more common, the idea is the same. This kind of prejudice isn't right, and sadly, it can and will affect those seeking service or opportunity from businesses. *sigh*. I'm embarrassed to be a 'Karen' here, but I strongly feel that people and potential customers, alike, need to know about these things. I would never want to blow the whistle on a smaller business like this! Still, my morals need a voice; what's happened here is deeply hurtful and I'm saddened by situations like this. As a result, I carry the weight of rejection due to my own mental health.. Maybe "it wasn't meant to be", but what this owner has done is irresponsible, cruel and absolutely unacceptable. Know that Mr. Harr is 100% guilty of ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION. I don't doubt that the TSS trainers are decent folks, but ALL staff members will be working with children who may have mental health disabilities or anxiety, themselves (especially around water!). The instructor is a joke. Never came to the class on time. Very disappointed experience in this school.

My child is having a lesson right now just as I write this. She absolutely loves this school, and this is a child who failed another school miserably!! She screamed for the first month but now cannot wait to see her coach Jesse!! I'm sure all other coaches are great, but she loves coach Jesse who's been fun, patient and just great. However I had to knock 1 big star off for not having a shower facility available at Cary location. Well they only have 1 shower/toilet room for all the kids who finish lessons at the same time, and it's mostly occupied (it's not an open shower, but just a normal toilet room with a shower inside, so if 1 kid is using it the door is locked and not available for others). I prefer to wash off all the chlorine before we head home, however it's usually quickly drying off in a cold toilet room with no shower (there's no locker room either, just toilets) and go home to take a shower. It's particularly miserable in cold weather to have no shower after swimming, and I know some moms changed schools just for this very reason. I so wish this situation is resolved - as the lesson itself is too good to give up! read more
