I tried to take lessons here a couple years ago with a lady however she talked about things irrelevant to my learning so much that I just stopped going. I think I went for a few sessions actually and still have no clue how to swim. I need to find a new place to go that will actually teach me how to not drown. I have been bringing my som here for months and I am not happy at all. He has had 3 different swim instructors for his baby/toddler class and the latest instructor is not ideal at all. She doesn't know the baby songs even after teaching the class for 2 months at this point. There really has not been any progression in his classes over these last 6 months its the same exact thing every week and not even trying to intentionally build on his skills. I filled out a withdrawal form online and it would not go through so i completed one in office giving them 30 days notice ..my account got charged for the next month and I've been trying to get in contact with the office to get a refund and nobody is getting back to me. Triangle Swim School is by far the most professional and warm environment I have ever found in a swim school. The curriculums are well planned and the staff takes time to train and co-teach with all new instructors. This can certainly not be said for all schools. The following is a PSA (public service announcement), For anyone looking into the Triangle Swim School (Raleigh/Cary NC), please consider my experience with owner, coach Matt Harr, who seems to have an issue with matters regarding mental health. I am a recent applicant. Early-on during my interview with Matt, he rudely interrupted to ask if I have anxiety. Needless to say, I was completely caught off guard, but respectfully admitted that I do experience some anxiety from time to time. I politely asked him why he inquired, responding, "I've been doing this for 15 years". It was confusing and the guy didn't seem terribly mean, but his questions and commentary totally derailed the interview when he went on to tell me about an ex-trainer who was dealing with anxiety. His tone shifted. Obviously, his situation didn't turn out well, so he went on to say, "I don't want to go down that road again"... Who wants to be around a judgmental, dismissive person like this? Do you or your child ever get nervous too? I'm a deserving applicant with a solid swimming background, but by that point in the interview, I knew the opportunity was spoiled. Still, what coach Matt's done is blatantly wrong, and for me, discouraging, offensive and humiliating. As a result, I feel that I can no longer be honest about my own mental health (excluding this writing). Situations like this cause dishonesty in personalities, professions and/or résumés. Sure, the guy can come up with any excuse he wants to deny applicants, but I'd advise ANY parent or those seeking a career to avoid the Triangle Swim School. Clearly, coach Matt lacks the empathy it takes to fairly treat his own staff and students, who may be dealing with their own mental health issues. (Check out the Google reviews! There's a good one from a customer whose daughter has a phobia of water). Coaches are supposed to develop confidence, not shame or embarrassment. To anyone. Additionally, Mr. Matt Harr doesn't seem to understand how unlawful discrimination works. Whether his choice to reject me was biased or seemed impractical to him, it's neither ethical, NOR LEGAL, to discriminate against mental health patients. Consider similar situations: the denial of 'undesirable' demographics such as race or gender might be upsetting too, right? While those examples are more common, the idea is the same. This kind of prejudice isn't right, and sadly, it can and will affect those seeking service or opportunity from businesses. *sigh*. I'm embarrassed to be a 'Karen' here, but I strongly feel that people and potential customers, alike, need to know about these things. I would never want to blow the whistle on a smaller business like this! Still, my morals need a voice; what's happened here is deeply hurtful and I'm saddened by situations like this. As a result, I carry the weight of rejection due to my own mental health.. Maybe "it wasn't meant to be", but what this owner has done is irresponsible, cruel and absolutely unacceptable. Know that Mr. Harr is 100% guilty of ILLEGAL DISCRIMINATION. I don't doubt that the TSS trainers are decent folks, but ALL staff members will be working with children who may have mental health disabilities or anxiety, themselves (especially around water!). I was looking for a place with a warm pool to compete adult swim lessons this past winter. I looked at several schools but it came down to availability. It is very hard to get into swim classes in this area because the classes are so small. I looked for over a year. I had a personal challenge because I don't work a traditional 9 to 5, Monday through Friday job. These classes are only available the same day each week for a calendar month. There's no flexibility with a group class which I understand. So, I lucked up and found an opening. Somehow, I didn't have any night shifts on Mondays for 3 months straight. I knew I would need more than 1 month of lessons. I think there's a minimum of 2 months. I loved the warm pool. The instructors were warm, welcoming, and most importantly patient. I learned something new from each one. I do wish the pool was deeper so I could have learned to tread water though. Of note, most of the instructors are used to teaching children so communication of swim techniques can be a challenge for them. Meaning, kids process information differently than adults. I think more attention could be on training the swim instructors on adult learners. I had a great experience here and would recommend this training facility. Adults, there's no locker room. There are changing rooms with privacy and cubby holes to put your belongings. The pool has a glass wall. If you are shy, particularly with people watching you learn, then know that there will be parents observing their children in the pool during your lesson. A con to sharing the pool is space especially when practicing swim strokes. read more

A few months ago when I began searching for a swim school for my almost 2 year old son, I really didn't know what to expect. After a while of searching, and looking through big schools, smaller schools and private teacher we decided to give Triangle Swim School a try. Now, a little over a month into classes we are thrilled that we did and are certain that we've chosen the right place for us. My son absolutely loves Saturday mornings with Miss Brittany. That's all I hear about for days after. Also, in just a handful of classes I can see his comfort and confidence in the water starting to grow. He's even started to put his head under in the bathtub! Even though TSS is a small school, it's far nicer than some of the bigger chain schools in the area. The rates are competitive and the quality of learning is at the top. In short, I highly recommend TSS for swim classes - whether it's infants, children or even adults! read more

This is our second year with Triangle Swim School (Raleigh location) and we couldn't be happier! Coach Heather is an exceptional instructor for our little guy who is now 3. She is exceptionally patient, loving and FUN! My husband and son love taking her class. In fact the class has lots of Dad/child combos and Coach Heather makes everyone feel welcome and special. The personal attention that each child gets in the pool is outstanding. The facilities are always very clean and they rotate the toys and props used in the class, which keeps our son interested and eager to learn. Also they have a waiting area with more toys -- another big hit! Most importantly his progress has been stellar. Our son is learning how to float and swim independently and is excited to be doing so. I'm confident that he will be swimming the width of the pool by himself soon. He went from not liking to get wet at all to diving to the bottle of the pool in search of "treasure." The pool is always warm which makes swimming year round delightful. Also if there is ever a time they have to cancel class due to weather(which is rare), they have a really cool alert system that notifies you promptly. I cannot say enough about how pleased we are with Triangle Swim School and particularly Coach Heather! We will be using them for many years to come. read more

My children have been going to triangle swim school for a few months and it has gone great! Not only have they gotten familiar with water and water safety but they are actually swimming. It took me a long tike to choose a swim school for them to go to and I am so happy we chose this one Katya is my sons swim instructor snd she is simply amazing!!!! I went to Triangle Swim School to inquire about swim classes for my 11mo old daughter. The lady at the front desk (seemed like a manager/owner) was very unwelcoming. When I inquired about classes, she said that we wouldn't be able to get my daughter into a class until September since their classes are full with new members and attempted to ignore me after. I asked for more info like class times, child to teacher ratio, and a curriculum or plan for classes. 1. They only have two or three classes a week for babies and your payment only gets you 1 class/week. 2. Their child to teacher ratio is 1:7?! What?! A 30min class with 7 babies means my child receives ~4min of teacher time. Plus, how does a teacher pay attention to what 7 babies are doing! 3. They have no curriculum whatsoever! The lady said they just teach the babies not to drown! Duh! I wanted to know how. Kicking? Rolling over and floating? What? On top of all that, all this information was hand written on the back of a piece of paper. No printed out information. Overall, It didn't matter if the classes were full or not. I wouldn't want my daughter going there. Very poor experience though I cannot speak directly about the classes. read more

Short story: Nice pool, very reasonable pricing. Saw a lot of kids having a great time with their instructors, including special needs children. Unfortunately, my two kids did not have a good experience. Long story: My oldest has a genuine phobia of water on her face. I put her in a sibling class with her younger brother (my mistake), in the hopes a professional teacher would help her overcome this anxiety. I did mention her fear to the front desk, and was told that the instructors were used to working with anxious students. By the third lesson, things hadn't progressed much, which I was fine with. At least it seemed like they were having fun. During the fourth lesson, the instructor was a bit more insistent that the kids get under the water. I wanted to talk with him and ask what else I could do at home to help, but he was understandably busy both before and after the lesson. I approached the front desk and mentioned that I had some questions for my child's teacher and asked if I could leave my e-mail. The owner of the school happened to be there, and told me politely but very firmly that the instructors are not allowed to have private contact with the parents. Again, understandable. I didn't complain or press the issue. The owner then asked me if he could answer any of my questions. I explained the situation with my daughter, which wasn't getting any better. In fact, since the lessons had started, her fear was getting worse. He first suggested that I stop talking to her about it 'all the time.' While I agreed with his logic, I wasn't sure if it applied in my situation since I almost never brought the issue up to my child. But I didn't contradict him, not wanting to be confrontational. He then went on to offer what I found to be quite good advice: practice letting her take showers and gradually work up to having her put her face under the shower stream. I switched her to showers that same day, and it turned out she loves them. By the fifth lesson, my daughter was starting to dread going to class, but she did it anyway because I asked her to. This time their regular instructor had with him a younger helper. This younger person was very friendly and playful, but also significantly more insistent that the kids get their faces under the water. There were several dunks, but it looked like it was going pretty well. Before we left, the owner took my kids aside and gave them a sort of pep talk. I thanked him for the help. Once in our car, my daughter burst into tears and told me that she hated getting her face in the water and that the 'new' teacher was forcing her to do it. I had seen the whole thing, and tried to explain to her that they were just trying to get her used to the water so she could progress to something more fun. Then I decided to follow the advice I'd been given earlier and let the issue drop. For the next week, my daughter was so stressed and fearful about her next swim class that she repeatedly begged me not to go. I figured she could return to swimming when she'd calmed down a little, so I let her sit the next week out. In the meantime, her younger brother could continue the lessons on his own. The sixth lesson rolled around, and this time it was just the younger assistant, not their main coach. The assistant got my son to agree to dunk under the water a couple of times, and he was very proud of himself, giving me a big thumbs up each time. On the third try, he wasn't given much warning before being pushed under the water. He instantly panicked, and came up in tears. He reached out for me, and I waited to see if he would calm down. After a couple of minutes, he was still quite upset, so I went into the pool area to try to help comfort him. I quickly noticed a more senior instructor giving me the stink eye, so I asked the assistant if it was ok for me to be in there. She looked back at the senior instructor uncertainly, who then spoke up to tell me that I needed to leave. Not wanting to cause a drama, I left without complaint even though my son was begging me to stay. After the class was over, my son was so upset that he, too, started asking if he could stop going. That was the last class we attended, and we didn't renew our contract. read more

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this school. They certainly have some wonderful things going for it (low ratios, convenient location for me, price, and great teachers), however, classes for under 3 is far too full. You literally get maybe 2 mins of the teachers time and the rest is the parent practicing/working with the child WHILE fighting for room to practice the skills. Moving up is very difficult as all classes are full and they don't seem to ever know when there will be openings. I am not talking about openings of those who dis-enroll, but rather who will move up to another class. Certainly they know the birth date of the enrolled children and what their skill levels are, at least I hope so. The dressing rooms are far too few for as many as are in the pool. It would be far better to space the different class starting in 15 minute increments to help with the backlog of people needing the few dressing rooms. Not to mention adding more times for lessons if they are fully booked. It would also be nice to see them instill the value of respect and ensure that children not running. There have been countless times the staff does not say anything. How can you teach safety around a pool when children are allowed to do whatever? There are 2 very basic bathrooms and I can't remember how many times I see an unflushed toilet. This is not necessarily the staff's fault, but more so the fault of the parents, which is probably why the children are running, right? However, despite a lot of the above issues, this IS a good place for taking lessons and leaps ahead the previous school at this location. Overall staff is outstanding and enthusiastic and most of the kids seem to really enjoy lessons. I have taken the parent/baby classes at the Rex, and would suggest that for those under 3 and wait until your child is a bit older for this place. read more

The best swim class in the area. Our 6yr old has been taking classes since 3.5. She is now a strong swimmer and has a blast in every class.

My daughter was scared to put her head underwater when we enrolled her in swim classes. We started with another swim school with 5 children in a class and that was not working for her. We learned about Triangle Swim School and Coach Matt's selection of semi-private and private lessons were the answer. All of the instructors are great but we have been particularly pleased with Coach Lauren and Coach Heather at the Cary location at O2 Fitness. read more
