The portions were really generous!! I love afrobeats and the dj was playing all my favs. It's a small space that turns into a club at night but the food is sooo good so pull up early if you want to eat comfortably.

The music and strobe lights were a going. Had to ask the individual behind the bar if they were open. He nodded his head and I took it upon myself to find a place to sit. He then followed me to my chosen sit with the menus (dinner and drink). While they physically have a bar, music and strobe lights it appears they do not have any type of liquor license. Also, they did not have most of the non alcoholic drinks on their menu. Mostly just can sodas. So i ordered ginger ale and the oxtail with a side of Jollof rice. When the food was served (see pick below) it came in a nice bowl and plate and plastic take away silverware. Quite the different dynamic. The Oxtail had great flavor, but the use of plastic silverware was a downer. The Jollof rice was bland, but ok. Overall, not sure I will be back. The music and strobe lights for dinner were not for me. I would come back for the oxtail, but think I will do a takeaway and use my silverware at home.

The unstaffed desk at the back where you check in and later pay - ring bell for service? Understandable but not the greatest. You should be the face of your restaurant as much as possible, but I cut some slack because the (owner?) was also watching kids. Service was fine, but the food was... let's say not restaurant grade. The wollof rice and plantains came to the table on a plate wrapped with plastic. So cross fresh off your list. Who knows when this was made and left to reheat? Probably early in the day to minimize effort later. Note that the restaurant business is incompatible with "minimum effort". The goat meat was half fat and... possibly skin. It was chewy but edible and looked exactly like I expect skin to look. Meat needs to be trimmed to be served. After all this, I would be pushing 1 star territory, but the food itself is deserving of more. The goat is rather chewy - needs to be slow cooked - but to its credit, boneless and in a delicious, slightly spicy sauce. The wollof rice is excellent quality despite the shrink wrap. The plantains were underwhelming - this preparation killed the sweetness and moisture, leaving just dry banana flavored chews. Plus you get an unannounced water with your meal. There is so much potential here. It's one of the only good places in East Orange. African locals eat here. It's definitely authentic. But I can't justify coming back here without more effort put into making this business a business, instead of a lunch counter for locals. I don't think anyone who frequents this restaurant will read or care about this review. If you've never had African cuisine, or if you can't get enough of it, then by all means go here - earlier in the day and don't order the goat. Maybe get the soup. But if you're just looking for a restaurant, this isn't your place.

I've ordered Jollof rice and goat meat from other Nigerian restaurants within the area and they…read moreusually give you plantains, the rice, and more than four pieces of meat. You read that correctly. THEY ONLY GAVE ME FOUR PIECES OF MEAT. And the goat meat was mostly skin and fat with very little meat. I ultimately paid $18 for a platter of rice. And the food was only mediocre at best. There are plenty of other Nigerian restaurants in the area that are astronomically better. I would not recommend this place.
