Smelled so good right away once we walked in. This restaurant is very inviting and has a great menu with many choices. Decor is very pleasant and pleasing. I had the Brisket Dip with cold slaw; The cold slaw comes in these oh so adorable little jars (w/ lids) that are pre-portioned and taken from a cooler. Yummy, I dipped my Brisket in the au jus and then put a bit of cold slaw on each bite My boyfriend got the rack of ribs with cold slaw, baked beans. The meat literally fell off the bones and the BBQ Sauce is so scrumptious & flavorful. Only issue we had was that the owner (we assumed) was not wearing a mask and was walking around talking to us and others at tables with food. The owners treat their employees poorly, especially their servers. I work in hospitality (serving the people) and where I work, we treat EVERYONE with kindness and respect, whether that's the owners, managers, colleagues, and customers. So this is extremely sad to see from this restaurant. The young server that served me at this restaurant the last time was so kind, timely, respectful, helpful, personable, and overall amazing. They do NOT deserve getting treated the way they do here. They need to be treated with much more compassion and respect. Also, the meat is undercooked and they add WAY too much smoke flavor into their basic menu items. Like my friend and I tried the potato salad the other day and the smoke flavoring was WAY too overwhelming and unbearable. Like we get it, it's a smokehouse, but tone it back a bit. Not worth the price at all. The inside of the entire restaurant has an unusual smell to it too, and it is not something I'd like to smell on a regular basis. It's like a fake smoke smell mixed with all the food they make mashed together and rust. The smell actually lingered on me hours after we left the establishment. At least it looks... rustic? Let me start by saying I love the Davenport community with all of my heart and I completely support buying local! But, I have to be honest, the Tribune has really gone down hill since it opened. I've been to the tribune quite a bit over the years since I have a family member who used to work there and I'd go to simply to support her. And also there aren't many options in town. There's no way around it: The food here is pretty gross. Most everything starts out frozen. The meats. The appetizers. The sides. Nearly all of it. There really isn't a fresh herb or veggie anywhere in the place. The meats all come frozen from the cheap restaurant supply place in Spokane, which is crazy in a farming community like Davenport where quality livestock could easily be sourced locally. There's a livestock auction house right here in town for goodness sake. The wings are rubbery and grey in color. And they cost $2 EACH. The bacon is limp and nearly translucent because it's the cheapest possible bacon on Earth. The smoked potato salad is nothing but the pre-made mayo-filled kind that comes in 5 gallon buckets, which is then tossed in the pellet smoker along with everything else. Eewwwwww. The smoked meat pizza costs $23, but the dough is frozen, the sauce is canned BBQ sauce, and the smoked meats are the leftovers from the previous days. I have also witnessed the owner recycle uneaten potato salad from people's tables once they leave. Hand. To. God. And speaking of the owners, they treat the staff like trash. Everyone who works here is completely stressed out. And servers and cooks don't last long because of it. Like I said, I'm all for local. But in this case, the tribune is just not worth it anymore. (PS: I recognize that COVID has made it extremely difficult for many local businesses. So to be clear, none of this feedback has anything to do with COVID. We have vacation property at Seven Bays, and when we are there for a few days we always like to make the drive here for great food. All their meats are perfect, but we always make sure one of us gets their smoked potato salad because it's delicious, and I think, the only place in the northwest to find it. It's one dish where I close my eyes and turn off all the crazy people I live with around me. And you can't have a meal here without their pork rinds that come out hot and crackling. Pleasantly surprised and pleased with the food here. I saw my chicken on my salad and thought it might be dry. It was smoked perfectly and super tasty. Parents loved their rack of ribs, very moist and fall off the bone. It was so good, they ordered another rack to go. Our server Jacob was incredibly attentive, very nice and did a wonderful job. I had the Beef Cheddar Melt with Potato Salad one time I went and I had the Mushroom Swiss Melt with fries another time. I have only had a great experience every time I have been. All the meat is smoked, and even many of the sides are too, such as their Potato salad (which was really tasty and unique). Their BBQ sauce is incredible! The fries are equally soft and crispy which is exactly how I like them. The onion rings are not chewy and just dissolve in your mouth. Man, what took us so long to try this place? Real deal pitmaster barbecue in smalltown Eastern WA? You bet. It was out...stand...ing. Meats were perfectly smoked, sauce was great, and prices were fair for the product/portions. Folks in there were very friendly; chefs were decked out in professional garb, and the happy owner was all over the place doing a little bit of everything. You could see/feel the pride in all of them. Decor was unique and traditional at the same time, and the place was very clean. They only do ribs on the weekend, and that may merit an updated review from me, but wow there's no problem with having to 'put up' with their brisket & pork during the week, huh? This has been on my list of places to try for a while now. I don't think there are super high quality BBQ places around the area so I wanted to give this one a go. Glad I did. The small town of Davenport is one that takes you back in time. A quaint downtown that is reminiscent of times gone by with mostly older buildings and nice wide sidewalks. You'll find the Tribune at the west end of town on the North side of the street, right on the corner. The Tribune looks just like every other older building on this stretch until you get inside. It is quite roomy with a plenty of booths and chair tables. There is also a long bar with about 10 stools. It is decorated nicely and feels more modern than its exterior. We were seated quickly and given a rundown of several specials for the day. So many good sounding specials it was going to make the choice difficult. I skipped the specials all together and my buddy went with the rib special. I ordered a brisket and cheddar sandwich with a side of beans, onion ring, and potato salad. I skipped breakfast knowing I was coming here so I was ready for a feast. Every one of these items were spot on for taste. The brisket just fell apart and the sauce was absolutely perfect. They also use a very good bun for this that is not one you would purchase at the store. The onion ring was crisp, yet not greasy; the beans were some of the best I've had although they could have been heated a bit more; and the potato salad had an amazing taste to it that was both fresh and unique. My buddy had ordered the ribs and when he picked up the bone the meat just fell off. He was super impressed with the quality and taste. He was also very fond of the potato salad. Enough so that he purchased some to take home. Thankfully we were given extra napkins and some wet naps. Our waitress was super nice and kept the iced teas topped off throughout our meal. I give it a bonus star because there are few restaurants in town. The service was good snd the place quite clean, but the food was BAD. My wife had the chicken Caesar salad which was the daily special. Her lettuce was wilted and black on the ends. It came undressed with about a teaspoon of dressing on the side (and the menu said they charge extra for more dressing). I had the ribs. They came dry--no sauce at all. When I asked for some sauce I was given a tiny plastic cup half full. The meat was tender but not "fall off the bone"tender like I prefer. Davenport is out of our way but we were in a neighboring town and wanted to try something new. I visited the website prior to our journey and the photos of the food told me it should be worth the drive. Starting with high expectations is generally a poor idea but the Tribune Smokehouse exceeded our collective expectations. The sandwiches with assorted smoked meats were prepared perfectly as were the sweet potato fries. The fry sauce may be second to none and why not add a little tartar to the dipping sauce collection. The beer selection is not vast but there was something for everyone in the selection. We ordered a side of the potato salad, in which the potatoes are smoked, and we were pleased with the smokey punch that the potato salad delivered. Top the food with a clean restaurant, an attentive server and an owner who stopped by to make sure everything was tasting great and you have a dining experience that is tough to beat, even in a large city. I ordered the Smoked bacon cheeseburger and onion rings (only after making sure they weren't the frozen kind.) The place was crowded, but the wait staff was super efficient and service was excellent. My plate arrived and I dug in. The buns are from a local bakery and one of the best buns I've had on a burger. The meat is smoked in house and had the perfect flavor. The bacon was thick and crispy, just how I like it and the onion rings had the right amount of batter and fried right. Phoned in a take out order for pulled pork sandwich and fries. They said it would be a half hour. We arrived 5 minutes early. Our food was ready. The Tribune has been around 5 years and Peter and Debbie go out of their way to serve a great product to their community. Peter smokes the many locally sourced meats himself! They do not and never would recycle food!!!! Our family drives from the south hill of Spokane frequently to eat at the Tribune. We love the ribs and the prime rib and the brisket sandwiches, to name a few of their first rate smoked meats. I absolutely detest the fact that someone can malign and lie and get away with it! Kirkland Signature sandwich buns? Kirkland sirloin burger patties? This stuff I can make at home.
