This is a LOOOONG over due review, but I recently reached out to Veronica to ask a question (albeit almost a year later) and she was just as responsive as the initially consultation. I want to start by saying that planning these things are awkward and sometimes overwhelming, however, Veronica made the process so simply and she really went the extra mile for us. We reached out last July to ask about plans and options for arrangements for my parents, and she practically held my hand the entire way through and in the end, we chose to proceed because of how comfortable she made us, and how much she truly cared about getting us exactly what we wanted. My parents were set up within a few days, and she even did the paperwork for us on a holiday. Anyone who goes through Trident would be lucky to have Veronica as their advisor. The best thing about her was the humor and light hearted approach. She was always available, and I never felt pressured. Communication?! We contacted Neptune society and was moved to this Trident Society company. Fast forward weeks later after cremation. We were told the Urn would ship to our home on Friday overnight. Well? Where's the notice that it officially shipped? Tracking number? It's now end of Saturday and nothing has shown up. Youd think a matter this sensitive and important would be treated with some communication. Anything to let families know the urn had shipped, with confirmation. We tried to call in and no one picked up. Closed on weekends? So here we are, waiting for the Urn with no information, and no follow up from Trident. Whoever is coordinating theses shipments is doing a terrible job at following up with the grieving families. it's like they just dropped off the package to be shipped and went on their merry way, while we the family are here waiting anxiously with ZERO information. Thanks for this Trident Society. UPDATE We just received the urn and we found out something interesting. Your Rep Sharelle told us over the phone, the urn would ship overnight. It was shipped out on Friday. We waited all of Saturday for it to come. Now it is Monday and we got the Urn. The package clearly reads 2 Day shipping. Regardless of what USPS offers, there some confusing verbiage on your end that led us to believe overnight meant it would arrive the next day. At the very least, a tracking number, confirmation of ship, something would have been nice. We waited until Monday before anyone actually could respond. Do you realize how anxious it makes people to know their loved one in the urn is out there with no way to track them? You should be implementing follow up tracking#s as a basic service considering what is at stake here. read more

I just lost the love of my life. We were married for 49 years. Planning for his memorial was the hardest thing I've ever had to do. My mother in law passed away recently unexpectedly and unfortunately she didn't have any pre arranged plans and my wife was left to deal with this death alone, not only is she grieving but she is tasked to handle everything on her own to put her mother to rest. Steve from trident society was really helpful, after hearing our situation he worked with us to make the cremation happen asap. As soon as the paperwork was done she was scheduled for 2 days out. Other reviews mention them taking forever but it was surprisingly quick for us. This place is horrible. I bought a plan in 2008, was told I could purchase travel insurance.at any time. I am leaving the state and needed to purchase. I was quoted $569.00. I signed up for cremation online and after reading the contract I decided against it. On the docusign I refused to sign, sent them a note as to why and stated not to charge my credit card. Well that was the 27th and today they charged my C/C for over 3,000.00 when I didn't even sign it. Wow, they are pretty sneaky, so I will NOT be using them for my cremation. I wish negative stars were possible because that is what I'd give this service if I could. After an extremely traumatic death of my father to lung cancer, Kaiser contacted Trident to come pick up his body for cremation and informed us this would happen within a couple hours. That was at 3:30pm. When no one showed up, we contacted Trident directly to be told something must have slipped through the cracks, but that they would send somebody out ASAP. It is now nearing 11:00pm and my dad's body is still at our house. We've been told someone would be here "in 20 minutes" about 15 times now....ridiculous. It was already hard enough losing him....having to watch the post-death process over 9 hours is not something anyone in the family signed up for. It's cruel and disrespectful. This is already an emotional and awful time for us, and we are completely exhausted. The unapologetic and disorganized way this was handled will forever leave a bad taste in our mouths. I hope this company sees this review and figures out a way to better honor the deceased and their grieving families. What a joke. read more

Their follow through is simply appalling. Today, I received a second mailer from Trident Society addressed to my husband. Only problem is that he killed himself a year ago. I called when I got the first mailer but no one got the message or gave a shit. So, you can imagine my horror when I get a second mailer and very close to the year anniversary of his death. If this is how they handle something as insensitive as this, imagine what they will actually do with your loved one. Follow up 6/26/18: In their message to me seen here, they referenced my father and not my husband. My father is still alive. It was my husband. If you read the second sentence of my original post, the last two words are "my husband". They have just proven my point. Avoid these people!! read more

If you want your loved ones to be stuck in limbo for as long as humanly possible between the time of passing and the actual cremation, Trident Society is an excellent solution. These folks seem to specialize in the "letting loved ones rot and make their families miserable for as long as possible" business. My grandfather signed up for a pre-need with Trident. It was supposed to be painless for his family. Dealing with the 'funeral director' at Trident was a slow and painful process. She was always difficult to reach and took an incredible amount of time to return phone calls or e-mails, often not doing so. Meanwhile, two weeks later, my grandfather is still in a refrigerator somewhere. Four days after returning the most recently requested paperwork by e-mail, I got a phone call saying they have to move him to another crematory. Apparently, something to do with the condition of his body. Another employee, Peter, proceeded to give my mother (the deceased's daughter) gory details of why this was necessary. Real classy, Trident. Real classy. Considering that his body has been in Trident's possession since 2 hours after his passing, this is unbelievable. To be clear, it took almost A MONTH for my grandfather to be cremated, despite being in Trident's hands 2-hours after his passing. These folks have absolutely no respect for the dead or their families. Absolutely disgusting. The whole company should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. read more

My mom was 77 when she passed away, but she pre-paid her cremation decades ago. She died at home, and I pulled the tattered card from her wallet. I called the hospice nurse to pronounce her, and called Trident. They could not have been nicer. They came very quickly but offered to let us have more time with her body, to remove jewelry, to decide what clothing she should have on-- such kindness with every option they gave us. My mother's husband had been saving money for a plot at a local cemetery but after seeing the care that Trident gave us and my mother, he has changed his mind, and we'll be pre-paying his cremation with Trident as well, We did have to go to the office to sign some paperwork at one point, and then again later to pick up the ashes and paperwork (including death certificates-- I told them in advance how many I needed), and the folks in the office were just lovely. I believe in cremation (and aquamation [for a better carbon footprint], but we're not there yet for humans in California), and I trust the folks at Trident for the physical and emotional care that they gave us at every step. My mom set up her own cremation and scattering so as not to have her kids figuring it all out. I must say, her picking Trident was a good choice. My mom and stepdad paid $1000 each for a cremation plan with Trident society. What they got was a nice wooden box, some cheapo thank you cards and a $300 cremation benefit. My stepdad just passed away and our experience with Trident was terrible. They lost his ashes somewhere in transit so the ashes were not available at the memorial service- she would have placed them in the columbarium if Trident hadn't lost them. Worse than that, Trident said they would take care of getting the death certificate and then made a mistake and put the wrong name on it for his spouse- they put his ex-wife's name! He was married to my mom 33 years so you can imagine how she felt seeing his ex wife's name on the death certificate instead of hers. read more

This is in response to Trident Society's stating that it doesn't scam the elderly: Trident Society takes advantage of the elderly. In other words, it scams them. My MIL and FIL wanted to be buried next to each other in their backyard. For $1,000, Trident Society sold them wooden boxes filled with cheap paper, a picture frame, and cardboard boxes for holding the ashes. After my MIL died, my FIL called Trident Society up. He's 87. He had paperwork from Trident Society with a phone number to call if either of them died. Somehow, after calling Trident Society up, he thought that his wife wanted to have her ashes thrown into the sea. He had forgotten that they had already bought the boxes. Everything had already been arranged, yet he ended up paying for another cardboard box to put her ashes into and also paying for having her ashes thrown into the sea. My husband and I were surprised when we found out that her ashes had been thrown into the sea because we had remembered their telling us us how they were going to be buried in the backyard next to each other. They had moved to their house shortly after getting married, and their lives together in their house meant so much to them. It was important to them for them to be buried next to each other in their backyard. My FIL is 87. He forgets. He trusts others too much. He believes what they tell him. After his wife died, he didn't have her to remind him that they had already bought the wooden boxes, and my husband and I didn't know. A couple of months later, I found the two $1,000 wooden boxes when I was cleaning out the garage. We didn't want to upset my FIL, so my husband and I got rid of them. We tried selling them on Craig's List for $20 a box. Nobody wanted them. We ended up giving them to Goodwill. Check Amazon to see how much these cardboard cremation urns should be selling at. Many elderly, such as my FIL, are Internet illiterate. They don't even know that they can easily check prices. Trident Society takes advantage of that. read more

Since Dad was a Veteran, Trident Society came highly recommended by the VFW. Everything was set up years in advance and paid off. Steve did a good job handling everything and the only hold up was receiving Death Certificates, but that was out of his hands. My only complaint and thing stopping from a 5-Star was my impression that at the time of death, all I would need to do is place a call and give a membership number. I was not prepared at 11:40 on a Sunday night, minutes after losing my Father, to answer dozens of questions that were given on the original application years back. read more

When I went to write my review about Trident I saw that they had also done to others what they did to us. For 29 days our father laid in a refrigerator while Trident refused to honor the contract my father signed and paid for. My parents signed up and paid in full for two cremation years ago. Our father passed away and he was picked up within hours. My brother went to Fremont to sign the final paperwork, gave them a picture of my dad and his ID. I signed the forms via email. We thought we were done, but when we didn't get a call to pick up his ashes we were told he hadn't been cremated. We were told that a new ruling had gone into effect and that we had to have a 'majority vote' of the children before my father could be cremated. I asked over and over to see the new ruling, but was never provided with a copy. We were told their lawyers would not OK the cremation. We kept saying my father signed a contract, he wanted to be cremated and his children want him cremated. It took over 4 weeks to cremate our father. We worked mainly with Suzi. When it became obvious that there was a problem it was difficult to reach Suzi. She didn't want to return phone calls because she knew we were upset. We were told we needed to sign a form, so we all signed and return the form. Then they needed another form, then another form. We kept having to contact Trident asking what was happening only to be told they needed something else. After 28 days their lawyers finally OK'd the cremation. After the cremation we were sent his ashes, but no death certificates. They said they mailed the certificates weeks ago, but we never got them. Suzi overnighted replacement certificates which we appreciated. It is Trident's job to act professionally and with sympathy at a very difficult time for the family. No one should have to deal with so much incompetence and I regret that my father ever signed a contract with this organization. The thought that our father had to wait over a month to be cremated is not only heart breaking, but totally unacceptable. read more

People - be aware that when you buy a prepaid arrangement for a loved one, be sure you have Durable Power of Attorney for them in order to avoid legal parameters any cremation service is required to operate within. read more

Do NOT depend on this company to do a good job with your loved one's final arrangements - at least not quickly. My aunt died February 2 and we did not receive her remains until March 16 - 6 weeks later. She had a pre-paid arrangement, so it should have been an easy process. My stubborn uncle may have held things up for a week, but ridiculous things like email & phone problems have held this up for an unbelievable amount of time! My dad had chosen the trident society in 2009 and had made prearrangements for his cremation. Recently before his passing I read the reviews and I have to admit I was a bit nervous that he had chosen them. It was the exact opposite however. I was very pleasantly surprised with the wonderful, compassionate, understanding service that Anjelica provided myself and my family. Even with the unfortunate family issues we had to work through with my dad's passing she still was very patient and extremely kind. The process went very smoothly and according to schedule. DO NOT buy anything from this company. I just reviewed the contract that my mom signed in 2009. They charged her $1300 for their services, put $450 in their trust fund..they charged $235.22 finance charge and then charge an annual rate of 9.75% on top of that a month.(I'm not sure how they can charge an finance charge and then a monthly interest rate!@!!). after looking at the few invoices that she has received (she hasn't been getting her monthly statements) the interest varied from $5 to whatever they felt like charging. She has had this account for 4 years now and they keep taking money from her account! Whatever you do! Don't let your parent let them take money out of their checking account. Mom has called and called to get statements, the people answering the phones are rude and unhelpful! I am giving this company NO STARS! Run! don't deal with this company read more

The staff they have working there was great. Nana died earlier this year and everything was very smooth and everyone was helpful. We weren't exactly sure what to do and called around to a few places. The first person my mom spoke to was Vanessa and she helped put my mom at ease. They came to pick up Nana and set up a time to go over what it was we were looking for. Steve sat down with me and my mom and went over the packages they had. We didn't need anything fancy since she was just going to be buried at Holy Sepulchre, but everyone here still gave us all the attention we could ask for. I still miss Nana, but at least we left her in good hands with the folks here. I was surprised to see the funeral home was just an office in a strip mall, but they still provided everything we could have asked for. I remember how excited Vanessa was when she offered us coffee and we said yes and she ran off to make it. I guess that doesn't happen often. read more

The service we received at their Fremont office was very professional. They were very respectful of my dad (the deceased) throughout. Jane, the new manager, even provided us with an urn when we couldn't find the one that was delivered to us. The cremation process took us close to two weeks, which was the timeline they had given to us (they had said it could take anywhere from 7-14 days).
