The most expensive haircut I've ever gotten but also one of, if not the, best! I don't really care about the shampoo and condition before or the rinse after, but it's nice. The hot face towel at the end is very nice! The space is big and bright and had solid music playing (early 2000's/2010's indie rock mostly). Lots of (metered) parking right nearby ($1 for 30 mins -- or it was on a Friday afternoon). Lots of drink options (including a beer on tap) for free. The haircut I got from Carlos was quick and great!! The one downside is that they took me about 15 minutes late, but hopefully that was just a one-off. LOL. This was possibly the worst haircut experience I've had. It lasted a whole three minutes - thank goodness. I was screwed from the start. I walked in with no greeting by my hair stylist. How can someone in the service industry be so cold to a paying customer? Also, from my years of experience, I could tell that this person could not cut my type of hair. I was right. I had some requirements for my haircut. Call it picky or what you will, but I know what I want and I don't think it's being demanding or bossy. This hair stylist cut 1/16" off where I asked it to be shortened. One reason is because I didn't want to take the chance of a screw-up. So she did... and it took three minutes. Done. It wasn't the best job (not that straight and it wasn't anything skilled like the scissor over comb technique). It pretty much was something I could have done. Wait, how much did they charge for three minutes??? When I set my requirements, I was hoping to have some input from this stylist but I already gave up from the start. There was not going to be any creativity and it's not like I could leave the salon from the beginning because that would just be rude of me. But it was the most minimal haircut ever and I forked over too much money. This place charges a hefty amount only because it's in Lafayette and people in this area don't know what style is. I lived in Lafayette and surrounding areas so I would know. The majority of people aren't fashionable. You'd have to go to SF to get a skilled hair stylist. I'm not saying this place is the worst ever, but they need to charge $15 for a cut instead of $60. It's insulting, quite frankly. Finding a place that knows and can make recommendations for men's haircuts can be difficult but decided to go in as a walk in as it looked to specialize in mens cuts. Easy access with atmosphere tailored to men. Staff friendly and willing to accommodate walk-ins. After sitting down at the chair, asked for a trim, cleanup and showed length to cut. Chelsie is the best! I recently came in to get a large, transformative cut. My hair was about shoulder length and typically was tied up in a large bun. However, I'm graduating and interviewing for jobs, so it was time to drastically shorten it. I really care about my hair and was super nervous to have such a drastic change. I brought Chelsie some pictures of inspirations and ideas, as well as some pics of past haircuts of mine, asked for her own opinions, and she went to work. Susan is great!! I've been going to her for 2 years now and love my haircuts! She styles it for me and has me try new product that I have end up buying! I give it only 3 stars as I had to try someone new since my hair stylist was out. With the quality of Susan I figured no problem, other stylists are same quality. My haircut with Carlos wasn't even close up to par of Susan. I strictly requested to make sure my scar wasn't showing. You can see about an inch of it. I let hubris get in the way when I decided to give my son a simple trim on a Saturday afternoon. What could go wrong? Poor quality poor skills poor service. Please do not go to Jennie. She does not know how to use scissors. She used a razer over comb and made the hair look messier than before. She also cut off the sideburn, which is what my husband specifically asked to "keep" saying that that looks better. She doesn't listen to what the customer wants and you cannot expect this kind of outcome for $60. It looks like service done at a $15 salon. My husband and I were extremely upset about her nonchalance and outcome. We asked for a different stylist and she left with no apology. In fact, i now think it may be the best cut I have ever had...keep n mind I have been going to salons for years! I loved 18/8. They told me it was for men but they would take me as a customer. I liked that! I loved the beautiful interior since I appreciate architecture and design- just being there was a pleasure. So I got lucky and when one stylist didn't quite know what to do with me another one jumped in and both gave me the best hair cut ever! I found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. I had some free time so I gave them a call and they had one opening that day so I took it. The person I spoke with on the phone was friendly and accommodating. Once arriving, I really liked the location. Really cool part of Lafayette. The building was nice and the set up was nice. I was greeted and checked in promptly for my hair cut. I got a really great cut by one of their stylists and I was happy with the outcome. Nice to get the hot towel treatment at the end as well. I really like this place and I think I will be back again. I have to say though that they are pretty pricey for a men's haircut. I was paying about $10 less in SF for the same type of experience. So if you don't mind spending over $50 on a basic hair cut, then this place is pretty awesome. read more

If I could leave no stars on the review I would! I went in for a trim and style and not for a full-blown haircut and I explained that to Ebrahim. I told him that I've been growing out my hair for the past year, that my hair gets thicker as it grows and so I had come in to remove some of that bulk and snip some of the ends so I could continue to grow it out since currently it was getting a bit tough to manage. The key here being continue to grow it out without setting me back months and months! The whole time at the start he said he understood what I was looking for. He said he would even start with cutting a "little" and if I wanted to take more off we could look at it again. He proceeded to take a few strands of hair at the front lifted it all the way and showed me he would be taking a maximum of 1/2" - 3/4" off. He then proceeded to cut my hair, which only looked like 2"-3" instead. At first I thought he was layering it so what was on top would fall over that...essentially taking the bulk underneath so the hair could be more flowy and still be long. There was no partitioning of the hair into sections for the layering and he just kept snipping. I was extremely disappointed, and although I did not show all my frustration at the time I wish I did! I told him that this was not how much I wanted to have my hair cut down to. To which his response was that he knows that I might feel that he had done the cut too quickly but that was "his way"...he also went further to say that this way "my hair" would be more relaxed and threw a bunch of so called leave-in conditioner for my hair to look like a wet mop that only continued to "poof" up into something way worse once I left. Even after throwing in the product I asked if he could at least style it with a blow dryer so I did not have to walk out of there that way; to which he said its not good for my type of hair. It immediately sunk in that this was not going anywhere so I did not push any further. If you are unclear or even a little hesitant on what a client asks for in their cut that day...ask more questions or have them pull up pictures so you have a better image of what they are trying to achieve. You don't just go ahead and decide what's best for their hair. Moreover, you don't tell a client that what their imagining is not best for their hair. Its as if he assumed I had never had my long hair cut by another stylist before. With this haircut he basically took my hair back at least 6-8 months back to where now I have to wait and grow it out back again and find a stylist who actually knows how to style longer and thicker hair. He completely missed the premise of me wanting to continue to grow my hair and that it was not just a COVID driven thing! I don't know what I was thinking at the time when I even tipped at the end. Maybe it was the shock of how much hair was cut or the 20% new customer discount they offered...or the fact that I felt bad that they were so affected by COVID all of last year. But I regret coming to this place. I'm not sure if it was just my stylist or the place itself but I do not see myself recommending them to anyone I know. read more

If you are picky about your hair, like me - this is your guy! The salon is fantastic too, catering specifically to men. Some of the nice perks: wine/beer upon arrival, hair is washed before and after the cut, a wonderful hot towel treatment on your face, neck massage (a bit extra but so worth it!), precision hair cutting. They canceled my appointment 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time. They called me as I was driving there (just around the corner) to say the stylist "wasn't feeling well". My appt was at 11:45am! They opened at 10am. Wish they would have called sooner in the day... Not fishing for a discount because I won't be going back, but they should have offered a discount on my next appt for the inconvenience. Ps. I am extremely particular when it comes to my haircuts, and the only reason I was willing to go to a random barber was because all salons were shut down in SF due to covid. That said, I will be making the 45 minute trip to Lafayette from now on. And Elizabeth is the reason why.
