First time to go fruit picking in Washington State. My mom was so happy, walking through the…read moreorchards, picking peaches, and then eating it. It was a warm day, so we left our dogs (who aren't allowed in the orchard which I completely appreciate) at a picnic table in the shade and no one bothered them. I got peach itch from catching the peaches in my arms when they fell off the tree. The lady showed me where to wash my arms off, but I couldn't get them off. Next time I'll make sure to wear a long shirt or bring packaging tape to get off the itchy fuzz. We went back to our hotel to shower and get the itch off, which was a relief. They had peaches, apricots, and pears available for harvest, but mom went crazy in the peach area so no pears for us that day. So glad we found out about this place. Will check if they have Christmas activities because this place is a lot of fun.

Enter Stutzman Ranch, a family owned orchard delivering peak September vibes on a sun kissed day. Pro tip: sneakers or hiking boots are a must. The orchard sits on a hill, and you'll get your steps in, believe me. Upon arrival, the signs lead you right to the warehouse where you check in. The big "Fruit in Season" board made it clear: apples and pears are the stars of the show. There is a $5 U-Pick minimum per person 12 years and over. You can bring your own basket or they'll handed you a cardboard box, and if you're feeling fancy, upon availability you can borrow a wagon. After a quick walk to the orchard entry, you're given the lowdown on which rows hold the goods. Families were out, kids running around, everyone on the hunt for Washington's crown jewels--apples. Though the grapes were almost done for the season, we still snagged a few sweet clusters. After we wrapped up our fruity treasure hunt, we headed back to settle up. Floyd and Betsy Stutzman, the lovely fourth-generation owners, greeted us again, this time with Charlie, their sweet pup. We chatted about our Texas roots and thanked them for keeping their slice of paradise so well-maintained. There's something satisfying about biting into a crisp Fuji apple you just picked yourself. Whether it's for a breakfast bite or paired with mimosas in the afternoon, it tastes like victory. Thanks, Stutzman Ranch, for the fresh harvest and hospitality!

Where to even begin on this blue goldmine! A third generation local farm with certified organic…read moreu-pick berries that produces there own sorbet on site - it's like a dictionary for all things foodie! The best part is - as you'd expect from the Yakima Valley - it's totally laid back! Located about 2 miles from the main drag in Wapato and a mile or so off Lateral A, is this 20 acre garden of blueberry eden! A giant "Blueberries" sign and some arm flailing tube gents (wacky waving inflatable arm flailing tube men for the family guy aficionados among us!) greet you from the street. Parking is available along the road coming in or next to the main building up on your right. After arriving in the main area, just off to your left is a small building where the folks who work here and hang out. Everyone is very nice and got a set up with buckets, harnesses and directions to the different types of blueberries. There are 4 or 5 different kinds of blueberries available and while a distinguishing palate may detect subtle differences, we felt like they were all just amazing! There's truly nothing better than picking fruit right off of the plant and being able to eat it or take it home! After we finish picking about 12 pounds of different blueberries, we went in to check out the fabled Sorbetto! As the name would suggest, it's a cross between sorbet and gelato. It comes in four different flavors currently and they have two available here in general. What we didn't know, is that they actually produce the stuff on site and it's a commercially available product in Seattle, Portland and Yakima! While we were enjoying this amazingly creamy treat, we got to sit down and chat with the president of the farm. He told us about the process of making the Sorbetto and how the base is not made with Milk, but rather 80% blueberries. The raspberry and blackberry options that we tried were absolutely delicious and it was hard to believe that this majestic cold to treat was dairy free. By the time we left, we had three giant bags of blueberries, full stomach's from both blueberries and Sorbetto, and full hearts from having discovered our new favorite place to get blueberries! This is one of spots that your must try!
