A BBQ joint in Kansas that I hadn't tried until today. Pulled in for a late lunch and chose the brisket sandwich and Mac and cheese. Cost me about $13 which is fair, it was ready to go in no time and was very tasty. Service was pleasant. The thing that struck me about Trinity was the care they took to make my to go order. I'm obsessive about junk on my hands and this box was neat and tidy (I know it seems counter-productive to make clean BBQ). I'd stop back in, in a heart beat. Very good bbq experience

I think a bbq place that serves Brisket has to serve a tender brisket. Maybe I got a bad brisket making day but it was pretty tough. The ribs are good

Excellent food service and barbecue sauce. I only wish it was open between the hours of two and five. It is what it is I enjoyed what I had.

Carolyn's Essenhaus is a true gem on the Kansas prairie. Located just southwest of Salina along…read moreState Highway 61, it's well worth a stop at almost any time of day. They're open from 6:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, and until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Saturday. They're closed on Sundays. After a long day on the road traveling from Las Cruces, New Mexico, to Salina, Kansas, we arrived around 6:00 p.m. on a Monday evening. We were more than ready for a break. We had found Carolyn's Essenhaus on Yelp, and from the photos and reviews, it looked like just the kind of place we were hoping to find. Inside, the restaurant was much larger than we expected. The dining room was filled with local artwork, charming Kansas memorabilia, comfortable tables and booths, and a classic salad bar prominently displayed in the center. Table service was friendly, warm, and welcoming--like enjoying dinner in your grandmother's kitchen. My wife ordered the chopped steak topped with cheese and grilled onions, served with green beans and sweet potato fries. I chose one of the local favorites, essentially a hearty patty melt featuring a grilled burger, grilled onions, and a thick slice of grilled ham. Both entrées were excellent, but the real star of the meal was the salad bar--especially if you appreciate an old-fashioned, homemade selection. It instantly reminded me of family potlucks with all my aunts and uncles. There was macaroni salad, cottage cheese, potato salad, broccoli raisin salad, a sweet and creamy chopped cucumber salad, and plenty of other homemade favorites. It was so good that I went back for a second small plate and happily told our server to charge me for the extra trip. To finish the meal, we couldn't resist taking two slices of their homemade coconut cream pie to go. It was every bit as delicious as the rest of the meal. Before heading out, we picked up a few of their homemade cookies from the front counter, paid what we thought was a very reasonable bill, and continued our journey with full stomachs and smiles. If your travels ever take you near Arlington, Kansas, do yourself a favor and make time for Carolyn's Essenhaus. It's the kind of place that reminds you why small-town restaurants are often the most memorable stops on any road trip.

On request they add onion and/or peppers to the hash browns or home fries. I really like the home fries which are slices of fresh potato. Biscuits always fresh, even later morning. They put it out early so if you want moist chicken get there by 11:00. Fridays they have fish. All fried. Used to have baked but it must cost too much nowadays.

I am not a breakfast person, so when I finally had a chance to try the lunch buffet, I took it. What I expected: A tiny, crowded place with average food. Upon entering, I was surprised that the restaurant was much larger than I assumed. The employees and locals were all very friendly. While some of the food was average for a buffet, the majority of it that I tried was well above average. The standouts for me were the delicious fried chicken, rolls, and chicken pot pie. I appreciated having the choice of brown or cream gravy for the mashed potatoes. The salad bar was also pretty good, so I was pleasantly surprised. I will definitely return!

The ribs were by far the best thing if you like dry rub, good (not overwhelming smoke) and great meat quality. The sauces were not watered down and runny but a great consistency and a solid offering from your typical sweet, medium, hickory, and hot. The golden one was not any type of mustard style I've tried. We also really enjoyed the pit ham and hot links. The other meats were decent. The only meat we didn't care for was the turkey, it definitely tasted like a pre-pumped turkey with a slightly metallic / saline taste you get with pumped products. Overall great BBQ meats. The sides were a little more hit and miss. The okra is definitely something worth stopping for. It was fresh, hand battered and sprinkled with their house rub seasoning and utterly fantastic. We also really enjoyed their potato salad, if it was Sysco special you had us duped! The Mac and cheese like most joints was from a boil bag and the coleslaw though EXTREMELY fresh left a little to be desired as it hadn't marinated enough to really pack some flavor in. The staff was friendly but the young girl working the counter wasn't quite sure of the meats and how they were prepared. We were looking for bone in turkey or chicken and she didn't know. Over all really nice and the food was prepared in the open kitchen and quickly brought out! The place could use some TLC and a little degreaser as the floor was a little slick and tacky. Trash was picked up but a little after hours scrubbing and I think it would really stand out. This is a Coke products restaurant so Pepsi people don't bother stopping LOL. Our next time thru McPherson we will be stopping.
