Ribs, fried okra and a side salad

Decent counter-service barbecue at a great price. The ribs we had were nicely smoked, juicy and tender. The smoked turkey breast was also nicely smoked, moist and flavorful. I'm more of a fan of sliced brisket, but their chopped brisket was tasty. Their sides of slaw, fried okra and mac-n-cheese were also pretty good. I'd eat here again.

Two-Meat Dinner (Pulled Pork & Beef Brisket) w/Fries, Mac & Cheese and Texas Toast.

I was unexpectedly rolling through this part of the state and decided to stop in McPherson for lunch; pulled up Yelp on my phone to see what was available at 12:30 pm on a Sunday and BBQ jumped out at me. Figured I would give the place a shot! Walked right up to the counter and ordered the two-meat dinner (beef brisket & pulled pork) with fries and mac & cheese for sides. The kid behind the counter brought my food to the table pretty quickly after I filled my cup with soda -- the selection of which, by the way, is poor, with the only diet drink in evidence being the godawful Diet Coke. I think there were literally more selections offered at the BBQ sauce bar. (There I chose the hickory variety and it was lovely.) I was also a little disappointed to find my brisket not sliced but chopped up into bits that made it harder to eat outside the context of a sandwich; at any rate it was decent enough, though not exceptional. I probably wouldn't order it again. The pork on the other hand was legitimately excellent. Tender, flavorful, delicious, everything I had hoped it would be! Top recommendation. Sides were surprisingly strong too; the fries were coated in a delicious crispy seasoned batter and the creamy, cheesy macaroni was above average. The meal came with a slice of warm buttered Texas toast with which I made a foldover sandwich with some of my pork; I only wish I had received two to help better eat the loose beef bits as well. The price was about what I would expect, the place was generally clean, the staff was adequate (though admittedly brusque) and at the end of my meal I found myself licking my fingers. Would definitely go back should I find myself in the neighborhood again.

    Farmer stacker with pulled pork

This was a super pleasant surprise. Set in a fast food building with a drive thru, I wasn't expecting much. We ordered sandwiches, I had the farmer stacker with pulled pork and K had the stacker with quac, bacon and ranch with smoked turkey. The turkey was really good. As for my sandwich the pork was tender and smoky and the beans were very good. I chose the bun (rather than the toast) and I loved it. It held up well with all that bbq goodness. The sandwiches were reasonably priced and we got our orders in no time. It's great to have found a new spot in a location I travel through on occasion. I will definitely be back

Great ribs. Fair prices. Quick service. The dry rub and variety of sauces created plenty of options.

She chose Roy's Hickory Smoked BBQ, and wow, are we glad she did! Pulling up, I was a little skeptical at first, but there were a few cars outside so we decided to give it a try. I hadn't paid attention to the hours on Yelp, and when I saw the sign on the door that said "11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. or until sold out," I told my wife, "Hopefully they still have some food left!" As soon as we walked in, we were greeted by that wonderful smoky barbecue aroma. We looked over the menu board and my wife chose the two-meat platter with ribs and brisket. It came with two sides from the cold case, beans, corn, pickles, and a drink. I ordered the brisket and ham sandwich, which also included two sides, beans, corn, homemade pickles, and a drink. The prices were very reasonable. After selecting our sides, we grabbed a small plate of beans, corn, and homemade pickles and found a seat in the second dining room. The restaurant has a large community table in the front room along with additional seating in the other rooms. Before our main dishes even arrived, we were impressed. The beans and corn had excellent flavor, and I was tempted to go back for more. When our meals arrived, they looked absolutely amazing. My wife's ribs were huge, tender, and practically falling off the bone. Her brisket looked moist and perfectly smoked. My brisket and ham sandwich was piled high and looked just as good. I was disappointed they had sold out of the bologna, but after trying the ham, I quickly got over it. The ham was delicious on its own, and adding their barbecue sauce made My wife and I were traveling home from Colorado through Kansas and starting to get hungry. I stopped by RibCrib BBQ & Grill while in town and was looking forward to trying a local barbecue…read morespot. The ambience was actually one of the stronger points of the visit. The walls are filled with decorations and memorabilia, and there are plenty of TVs around the dining room, which makes it a comfortable place for someone dining solo. I ordered the three-meat plate and paid the extra $2.99 upgrade for the brisket. Unfortunately, the brisket was the biggest disappointment of the meal. It came with three slices that were roughly four inches long and quite thin, and the meat itself was very dry. They didn't appear to be much effort to keep it moist. It lacked the smoke flavor you'd hope for from barbecue. Almost felt like it was cafeteria produced and an assembly line for multiple meals, but yet I was maybe an hour before closing and there were three other solo diners plus a large party. I also tried the hot links, which unfortunately tasted fairly plain and again didn't have much of that smoky barbecue character. The St. Louis ribs, however, were actually very good. They were tender and flavorful, but the portion felt a bit light....only two ribs were included, and given how small the brisket portion was, a third rib would have helped balance the plate. The real standout of the meal ended up being the baked beans. They included brisket burnt ends mixed into the beans, and they were excellent. Honestly, I could have happily eaten a double portion of those. The Texas toast felt pretty standard likely the frozen variety warmed on a flat top. I sampled a few of the house BQQ sauces as well. The Memphis-style wasn't really my preference, and the spicy sauce had a bit of heat but it was inconsistent. You'd notice it in one bite and then not at all in the next. Service was okay overall, though it seemed like my server may have gone on break during the meal without handing off the table. I had to flag someone down halfway through to get a drink refill, especially since water isn't offered automatically. The mashed potato's used a breakfast pepper gravy which was odd tasting and you could tell it was a packet powder. Overall, the atmosphere was enjoyable and the baked beans were genuinely great, but the barbecue itself felt inconsistent and especially the brisket. As someone who enjoys cooking barbecue at home, I know how good it can be when it's done right. If anything, I might come back just for another serving of those beans... and maybe to see if they'll share that recipe. Haha
