Honestly great food. My wife and I tried almost everything as we were on vacation and try and stop at local places. The ribs were by far the best thing if you like dry rub, good (not overwhelming smoke) and great meat quality. The sauces were not watered down and runny but a great consistency and a solid offering from your typical sweet, medium, hickory, and hot. The golden one was not any type of mustard style I've tried. We also really enjoyed the pit ham and hot links. The other meats were decent. The only meat we didn't care for was the turkey, it definitely tasted like a pre-pumped turkey with a slightly metallic / saline taste you get with pumped products. Overall great BBQ meats. The sides were a little more hit and miss. The okra is definitely something worth stopping for. It was fresh, hand battered and sprinkled with their house rub seasoning and utterly fantastic. We also really enjoyed their potato salad, if it was Sysco special you had us duped! The Mac and cheese like most joints was from a boil bag and the coleslaw though EXTREMELY fresh left a little to be desired as it hadn't marinated enough to really pack some flavor in. The staff was friendly but the young girl working the counter wasn't quite sure of the meats and how they were prepared. We were looking for bone in turkey or chicken and she didn't know. Over all really nice and the food was prepared in the open kitchen and quickly brought out! The place could use some TLC and a little degreaser as the floor was a little slick and tacky. Trash was picked up but a little after hours scrubbing and I think it would really stand out. This is a Coke products restaurant so Pepsi people don't bother stopping LOL. Come hungry! I was in town for a seminar at the college and had a short window of time for lunch. This was recommended and it was close, so why not. The service was prompt and the portions are huge. I hade the pulled pork with ham and cheese with a side order of fries. The fries were nicely seasoned and the sandwich needed a knife and fork to eat. We had our family reunion for the first time in McPherson this year, when past years it was held in Newton. We were hoping to find food to be catered that resembled our past menus. I found Woodies by their great reviews. Their food was excellent, and Heather was more than accomodating with ordering and answering all my questions regarding all the food. Woodies is a good place to go for bbq if in McPherson either passing through or staying in town. There were six in our party and everyone was happy with their meals. I had a pulled pork sandwich and cole slaw. Both were really good. One person said the brisket was a little dry but have had at a lot of more expensive joints and had dry brisket. I was unexpectedly rolling through this part of the state and decided to stop in McPherson for lunch; pulled up Yelp on my phone to see what was available at 12:30 pm on a Sunday and BBQ jumped out at me. Figured I would give the place a shot! Walked right up to the counter and ordered the two-meat dinner (beef brisket & pulled pork) with fries and mac & cheese for sides. The kid behind the counter brought my food to the table pretty quickly after I filled my cup with soda -- the selection of which, by the way, is poor, with the only diet drink in evidence being the godawful Diet Coke. I think there were literally more selections offered at the BBQ sauce bar. (There I chose the hickory variety and it was lovely.) I was also a little disappointed to find my brisket not sliced but chopped up into bits that made it harder to eat outside the context of a sandwich; at any rate it was decent enough, though not exceptional. I probably wouldn't order it again. The pork on the other hand was legitimately excellent. Tender, flavorful, delicious, everything I had hoped it would be! Top recommendation. Sides were surprisingly strong too; the fries were coated in a delicious crispy seasoned batter and the creamy, cheesy macaroni was above average. The meal came with a slice of warm buttered Texas toast with which I made a foldover sandwich with some of my pork; I only wish I had received two to help better eat the loose beef bits as well. The price was about what I would expect, the place was generally clean, the staff was adequate (though admittedly brusque) and at the end of my meal I found myself licking my fingers. This was a super pleasant surprise. Set in a fast food building with a drive thru, I wasn't expecting much. We ordered sandwiches, I had the farmer stacker with pulled pork and K had the stacker with quac, bacon and ranch with smoked turkey. The turkey was really good. As for my sandwich the pork was tender and smoky and the beans were very good. I chose the bun (rather than the toast) and I loved it. It held up well with all that bbq goodness. I legit downloaded the yelp app so I could give Woodies the props they deserve. My wife and I are avid foodies and we have been to many places in our travels and Woodies is absolutely amazing! We ordered the brisket, ribs, fried okra, fries, and spicy beans and each and every one of them were phenomenal! If you're a fan of spicy food the spicy beans are amazing! The French fries are seasoned to perfection! The okra is not overly battered and perfectly seasoned. The brisket is Smokey and moist and melts in your mouth. But the star of the show is Woodies ribs. But I became very familiar with KC pit legends for the years in which I brought the KC Masterpiece BBQ Restaurants offerings online to sell nationwide. On Tuesday, I was visiting MAC and a friend in McPherson asked what the best KC BB joints were. I told him. Then, he told me I needed to try Woodies there in town. TBH- I didn't expect much, as I have eaten at many underwhelming BBQ restaurants. But Woodies pleasantly surprised me. The brisket was lovely. The portions were gargantuan. And I absolutely loved the creativity they exhibited in their menu items. I decided on a Bacon/Mac and Cheese brisket which made a lovely lunch and dinner on Tuesday. I'm rating this for exactly what it is, a drive thru BBQ joint. The gal in the drive thru was very sweet and got our very large order perfect. My smoked turkey was great. Potato salad was pretty good and the coleslaw was okay. Honestly better than we expected. In our group we ordered a little bit of everything; brisket, pulled pork sandwich, mac and cheese loaded with bacon bits and pork, and the spicy smoked beans. Checked in with Yelp to find someplace that was not a chain restaurant and found Woodie's Smokehouse, and decided to give it a try. They had a decent selection of meats and sides. We asked the young lady that took our order what her favorite was, and she said pulled pork. So, that's what we tried. We are it without any sauce and it had a wonderful smoky flavor. My wife had baked beans and I had the spicy baked beans. The regular baked beans were very good. The spicy beans are spicy. They lived up to the name. But they were delicious. Cole slaw was very good, sweet beans had more "sweet" than flavor, and the mac n cheese was bland and could have originated from a box. I loved the fried okra - you could tell it was fresh as it wasn't mushy and some were still crispy. On the meat, we were mislead by the other Yelp reviews... they obviously haven't tasted real smoked barbecue. Because the pulled pork and brisket were almost minced, you could not tell the difference between the meats. The ham was salty. I had the Poutine potato with pulled pork and gravy. Not much meat on it and minimal gravy.... I've had wetter poutines. If it's the only place open, go for it, otherwise try somewhere else if you want real Kansas barbeque. read more

I ordered the Mac Stack, which was pulled pork on texas toast with baked beans and cheese piled on top and a Dr. Pepper. I loved how the beans were sweet and not choked down with pepper and vinegar or whatever people do to try and have a signature taste.
