She has never done a sleep away camp before and she was VERY nervous about spending time away from her family. (And her freeking phone.) The staff there did such a great job calming her nerves and tackling her fears. She sent us a letter telling us she didn't ever want to leave. I have never heard someone talk about a zip line so much. Her counselor Reef was fantastic. We can't wait to sign her up for next summer! Thank you for teaching her there are much better things in this world than spending all your time on your phone. She will walk into middle school this year with a bold new outlook and camp friends too.

I didn't feel comfortable with this arrangement and am glad I didn't sign my daughter up for sleep-away camp. She enjoyed the day camp but the staff seemed more concerned with protecting themselves rather than allowing parents to protect their children. I was expecting some nice local horse riding girls to mentor her and instead had to leave her with boys who wouldn't tell me their names. She won't be back.

She is an accomplished rider herself which doesn't always necessarily translate into being a great instructor, but in Erin's case, she is not only a talented rider, but also instructor. My 6 year old daughter absolutely loves her (and Katie) and counts the days until her next lesson! They have helped nurture a passion for horses. Erin really takes her time and is so genuine! She teaches horsemanship, not just riding which I think is so important. I have been around horses my whole life and have trained with countless instructors when I was younger. Finding the right instructor for my daughter was important to me. I wanted her to be able to build a relationship with her instructor as well as the horse. You don't get this at a lot of lesson facilities, especially for beginner riders. A lot of barns feel cold and very business like -- you get on the horse, you ride for 25-30 minutes and then go home -- not with Erin and Katie. I have never felt rushed. It is a totally different experience riding at her facility -- it is fun, educational, safe, and my daughter has gotten so much out of her lessons in just 6 months. I feel so lucky that a friend referred us (Her daughter goes to school with my daughter and was riding with Erin). As another reviewer pointed out, Erin is so gentle, yet not afraid to push a little in a good way. She has given my daughter so much confidence. My daughter has made so much progress thanks to All the Kings Horses. It is a whole family experience visiting Erin's ranch in Calistoga -- even my 4 year old has a blast! And we have all fallen in love with Erin's lesson ponies/horses! I can't say enough about All the King's Horses.

Also kind of sucks that the sister wineries closed down across the street. It was great popping in from one to the others. Anyways, as alway an amazing time was had here. We had a reservation during Fourth of July which I thought would have been a little busier but it was quite nice. Not too crazy. Beautiful afternoon out for wine. There was a good amount of us but only four tasting which they were gracious enough to utilize a larger table to accommodate all of us. Very thoughtful of them even though we had a feeling that people were just going to walk around instead of staying in place...lol... Check in was a breeze. First off, the property is beautiful. A beautiful pond right out front and then the huge stairways up to the tasting room. Of course the showstopper view of the vineyards and property. Check in was right when you reached the top. It didn't take long till we got seated at the inside table. Sort of our own little private room. Started off with a nice crisp white. Even the little sample was great. I totally forgot the sweetie that took care of us but she was a major doll. Very sweet and friendly. Explained everything down to the tea which was amazing. Their tasting which started off with the cool crisp white to the bold red were tasty. Each with their own unique flavors. Whatever you prefer, white or the red, there's something for everyone. As we're a sister member down in Los Olivos, they accommodate us with four tasting included. A nice way to bring friends and enjoy what the valley has to offer. The whites were great and perfect for a nice hot day. Also a great cold drink but red is what we all enjoyed. Just with the pour, you can taste the bold richness flavors of the grapes. Amazing. The property is beautiful with the beautiful olive trees line driveway approaching the front. The cute lake right out front and once you reach the top of the tasting room, the million dollar view of the valley. Tasting room itself is beautiful which a good amount of the tasting can be done on the covered patio with umbrellas. The bar counter is nice as well but private rooms can also be accommodated. Wines were great and the service was a match. Fourth of July tasting was a success. Until next time.

Will correct that now with comments on our mid-November visit. We usually visit Roth each fall. This past fall, as well as in 2024, Jeff was our wine specialist. With 50 years in the hospitality business, Jeff knows how to care for guests. A true pro. Jesse was also in the tasting room and chimed in with helpful background on wines. DH and I always enjoy when a winery is not too busy and that we can chat with ... and learn from ... the wine specialists. Roth was our first stop for the day so we paced ourselves with the five wines. We begin with a Rose of Malbec. Not sure of the vintage. Both 2023 and 2024 were on the price list. The color was beautiful, but the taste rather ordinary. We might have had a different impression on a warm summer day. The 2023 Barrel Select Sauvignon Blanc was next. I enjoyed it more than DH did. Nothing wrong with it, but we prefer New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs. Next up was the 2022 Chardonnay. It is only in the last few years that we've sought out Chardonnays. We enjoyed a few bottles of this wine last spring. A taste confirmed that our memory was right ... a lovely Chard. We bought two bottles. Very reasonable price of $38.40 for members. The 2022 Reserve Merlot was our next wine. 100% Merlot, not a blend as in some years. Bought one bottle: $48 member price. We ended the tasting with one of our favorites: Ode to the Beast. Truly a beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon. And well named! We've enjoyed a couple of bottles of the 2021 vintage this past year (95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot). This was our first taste of the 2022 vintage which has a slightly different blend: 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 11% Petit Verdot, and 2% mixed reds. Not sure our palates our discerning enough to detective the difference had we done a side by side tasting. Ode to the Beast is $95 retail and is almost as good as some Cabs we've had in the $150 range. $76 for club members is a bargain. We had a couple of bottles waiting at home so decided to pass ... probably a mistake. What else can I say about Roth? It seems to be a well kept secret. Admittedly the grounds and small tasting room are nothing to get excited about. (The caves, however, are another story.) Tasting fee is only $20 per person; up to four complimentary for members. Staff always helpful and shipping easy. Bottom line: some all around good whites and reds. With retail prices from $36 to $95, these are very affordable wines. And a few thoughts about the Roth cave tasting. If available, try it! In our 50+ years of wine tasting in California, we have the Roth Cave Tasting in our top 10 of wine experiences.

The resort concierge made a reservation for us in advance and we arrived a few minutes before our appointment and were warmly greeted by the winery host staff. The host allowed us to select any table around and welcomed us to walk around and sit anywhere in the winery, it really made us feel at home and welcome. We had a tasting experience that included a flight of wines and a local cheese and charcuterie plate and it really gave us a good variety of wines to experience. Our host was absolutely outstanding and very knowledgable about the wines and the entire food and beverage operation. The host also showed us their wine caves and offered to take our photos as well. We really enjoyed their Pinot Noir's and we picked up a bottle to take home with us as well. The Roth Estate experience really was a great one and we look forward to returning the next time we are in the area!

The Bay Area Discovery Museum somehow manages to feel exciting without feeling overwhelming. There are indoor exhibits, outdoor play areas, sensory stations, bubble activities, climbing structures, toddler-friendly areas, and sand play with Golden Gate Bridge views. The layout makes it easy for kids to naturally move from one activity to another without parents constantly redirecting the day. The overall vibe feels chill, playful, interactive, and very exploration-focused instead of overly chaotic or overstimulating. Quick guide below. What really stood out to me was how thoughtfully designed the museum feels for both children and parents. Many activity areas are staffed, which makes the experience feel more interactive and supported instead of parents having to carry the entire outing themselves. One staff member even pulled out a little guitar during one activity, and suddenly kids and parents were all singing together like a tiny spontaneous flash mob It gave the whole place a really warm, community feel instead of feeling like just another children's museum. I also loved the dedicated toddler play areas where bigger kids can't just run through and take over, which made it feel much calmer and safer for little ones still learning to explore independently. ------ QUICK GUIDE What matters: * Free parking available * Designed mainly for kids ages 0-8 * Indoor + outdoor children's activities * Toddler-friendly play areas * Bubble + sensory activities * Sand play area * Large climbing/play structures * Golden Gate Bridge views * Bathrooms throughout * Stroller-friendly paths * Staff throughout activity areas * Open space to roam and explore * Great for both low-stimulation and high-energy kids * Easy place to spend several hours with children ------ Pro tip: if you accidentally forget diapers or wipes, they have diaper backpacks stocked near the bathrooms -- one of those small details that makes the whole place feel genuinely parent-friendly. Adding photos because it was hard to picture the overall layout before going.
