My wife and I stayed at the Fantastic Chamonix Hotel and Casino in Cripple Creek, CO, to celebrate…read moremy 90th birthday. Our valet parking attended, Ronald took our luggage to the front desk, where the cheerful attendants, Shalee, Chelsie and Ashley provided us with our keys to a suite. (We were able to check in early) After moving into our suite the casino floor beckoned us. We both played in Chamonix casino and all through Bronco Billy's. Had a great time. I had one hand-pay. Dawn the local bartender, Lexi, pay master and Joel, security, watched over everything, all helped me with this exciting event. Great people. Dinner was at the new Don Juan's Cucina Mexican restaurant. Loads of food and a special Tequila. On our way to the suite my walker needed adjustment and Tim, custodian, came to the rescue. All in all everything from arrival to 980 Prime, Saturday, was beyond high quality. W. Field, marketing and W. Vinson, personal host made my 90th birthday the very best.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU'RE TRAVELING WITH A PET unless you're prepared to pay a $200 NONREFUNDABLE…read morepet fee for a one-night stay. This fee was not disclosed anywhere during the booking process that I could find. The only place it appears is buried in the Terms & Conditions in small print at the bottom of the website. My friend and I ended up in Cripple Creek after a hailstorm cut our camping trip short. We had my 10-pound, 10-year-old dog, Cosmo, with us, so I specifically booked a pet-friendly room at Chamonix. Everything was going well at first. Becki in valet was absolutely wonderful - friendly, helpful, and by far the highlight of our experience. At the front desk, I checked in, provided my ID, and they ran my credit card. As the employee was about to hand me my room keys, he casually asked if I had any pets. When I said yes and pointed to Cosmo, who was standing with our luggage, he replied, "Okay, that'll be a $200 charge." A $200 nonrefundable pet fee for one small, well-behaved dog staying one night is outrageous - especially when it exceeded the cost of the room itself. Most higher-rated, true luxury hotels, like The Broadmoor, charge $50-$100, or they place a refundable deposit for potential damages. Waiting until after my card had already been charged to disclose this fee felt like an intentionally shady business practice. When I told them I couldn't justify paying an additional $200 and asked to cancel the reservation, I was initially told they don't allow same-day cancellations. The manager eventually agreed to waive the cancellation fee, but despite my request, never came out to speak with me directly. One additional disappointment: while waiting in line, a second front desk manager who had been assisting other guests stopped acknowledging me when I got to the front of line. I have severe POTS, which makes standing for extended periods difficult, and that made an already stressful situation even harder. It's unfortunate because I had been looking forward to seeing the property, having dinner at one of the restaurants, and spending a few hours gambling in the casino. Instead, we left and found somewhere else to stay. If the pet fee had been clearly disclosed during booking, I simply would have chosen another hotel. Transparency upfront would have avoided this entire experience, despite the fact that $200 is still an outrageous charge for a pet.

On a warm mid-June afternoon, I visited this casino along with my husband and brother…read more I cannot speculate at all on the hotel as we simply just stopped by to have a drink, lunch, and play roulette. I have to get the one downside that I experienced out of the way. It wouldn't have bothered me so much, but the manager on duty put the alcohol wristband on my wrist so tightly that my hand started to tingle. This was after the bartender told me that I didn't need a wristband! He insisted that we needed to be wearing them even as it was mid afternoon and hardly anyone was there. He was a little rude and kept walking up behind the ladies that worked the roulette table, making them slightly uncomfortable. I kept thinking about how funny it would be if one of them would "accidentally" give him an elbow to the gut to remind him he needed to back up. ;) Other than that, all of the other employees were super nice. I didn't play roulette, but as I was sitting at the table the dealers acknowledged that I was there and made it more fun to watch. The guys had a beer, but I had my usual dressed shot of tequila... which is not allowed at the table because of the salt. I am not sure if it's because of the nearby motel, but I got caught up on my emails with their free WI-FI. The casino is well-kept and clean. The restrooms are located on the other side (not near the roulette tables), but are decent. It's a nice place to stop for a little while if you're ever in Cripple Creek. Review #111

I mostly sit at the bar and drink while I play a little. I am simply the driver that brings my wife. On this occasion I also brought my in-laws and we all enjoyed the casino. Since I was sitting at the bar watching football I was getting my drinks. It seems that they offer you a drink about every 30 minutes. Seems pretty generous to me and reasonable. Don't want to see a bunch of drunks slopping all over the place. My waitress was great, she had a great personality and made a great Bloody Mary. I had two but even though I was there for a couple of hours I had to limit two because I do have to drive down the hill. My wife and mother-in-law both said that drinks on the floor were not great. Only one drink for my wife in a couple of hours of play.

Review Visit: June 12th, 2019…read more Luckily, we didn't make too much of an ass of ourselves... While eating at China Wok, my cousin's roommate asked what we were going to do with the rest of the afternoon. After some back and forth, we settled on visiting Cripple Creek and some casinos. After eating lunch and letting the food settle, we hit the road for Cripple Creek. We got some tips from Katie on the drive there (due to the mountain roads) and also which casinos are fun. My cousin and I arrived and parked in a parking lot that is open to the public. We wandered from one casino to the next, winning some money here and losing some there. Eventually, we stumbled in to The Brass Ass and signed up for some player cards. My cousin had never played table games before, so we ended up at the Craps table for our first gamble. We explained to the dealers that we had no idea what we were doing. They were nice enough to explain the rules. After a few throw of the di, we ended up being way ahead of our initial bets. My cousin was up $40 and I was up $25. We left the Craps table and checked out the other table games. We ended up at a table dealing Three Card Poker. The dealer there was also nice enough to explain the rules to us. I decided to sit back and spectate while my cousin played a few hands. Not only was the dealer nice enough to explain the rules, she was sassy enough to keep my cousin in line as he kept doing things not allowed by their casino rules. After my cousin was up and then down... and then eventually down enough that he wanted to quit playing, we made our way back to the Craps table... where we lost more money. Once my cousin lost all his money, we made our way to the Cage so I could cash out my $15 in chips. Before we left, we took a look around to see what else the Casino offered. My cousin found a slot machine to spend his remaining $1 on. After a few seconds, he lost it all. Lady luck sure is a fickle one.

The manager even got me some special sides when I asked thinking he was a server walking by. They have breakfast every day (earlier on weekends) and are one of the only restaurants that allows children in cripple creek. They have a nice patio you can eat at to. I enjoyed the biscuits with breakfast and the FROZEN coke & crown royal machine is sooo good! My food was togo and thoughtfully packaged and had ketchup, butter, jellies, silverware and togo gravy, VERY APPRECIATED when camping and eating outdoors! The frozen crown and coke was like an adult slurpee, and not watered down like a lot of frozen drinks out of machines. The golden nugget is open 24/7 with free drinks while you play, and they have a cute coffee shop that opens at 8 am with starbucks and other goodies and sandwiches. Clean inside and super clean restrooms. Plenty of parking dedicated to the casino. I always go to golden nugget when in the area! They have a cool display of a giant nugget.
