I hired Kyle Roberts for a project to add a bathroom and closet to my modest 1000sq ft east side…read morecottage. The project was estimated to take four months for a budget of $140k. Instead, the project took over a year and was $60k over budget. Some of this was due to unforeseen circumstances (like unexpected electrical rewiring to fix existing issues). Most of this, however, was due to Kyle being unresponsive to both myself as the homeowner and his contractors who told me time and time again that they were unable to reach Kyle for time-sensitive decisions and instructions. Additionally, when his team made mistakes (which they did frequently due to a lack of supervision or the wrong plans on set or a litany of other reasons), Kyle charged me for the time and materials required to redo the work. Not only was the project poorly managed and way over budget and timeline, the quality of the work was so poor that I am still dealing with broken plumbing, electrical, and carpentry issues that continue to cost me thousands of dollars to repair. All the faucets leak. The doors don't close properly. The floor is so unlevel (despite being an addition) that furniture doesn't fit properly. The HVAC vent in my son's room was covered up so there's no airflow coming into the bedroom. After a plumbing emergency the weekend I moved back in during which raw sewage came up through my new shower because his team had left the test plug in (!!!), Kyle was nowhere to be found. He didn't respond to calls, emails, texts, or messages in WhatsApp and Signal, and I ended up being on the hook for the nearly $3k plumbing bill to repair his team's mistake. Once I finally heard back from him on Monday, he and I agreed to part ways and terminate the relationship. I clearly laid out for him the conditions of the termination in writing, and he accepted. I have not heard from him again and, true to my word, have contracted directly with professionals that are repairing his team's work at my expense. Now I am receiving Intent to Lien notices from the subcontractors that he neglected to pay for work he contracted with them directly. He and I did not have a contract, and there are no grounds under which I am responsible for these payments. Kyle created pull requests for work completed, and I paid them same day. Every single time. Apparently, KYLE HAS NOT PAID HIS SUBS and they are now coming after me. Fortunately, I have documentation dating back to the beginning of the project that demonstrates Kyle's negligence as a General Contractor, as well as the documentation from all of the professionals I've had to contract since we terminated the relationship that are willing to go on record to describe the egregious mistakes and lack of craftsmanship in everything from the framing to the plumbing to the finish out, so I'm hopeful that I will not continue to be held responsible for Kyle's lack of attention and oversight.

And then one day, she was bootin' her lawn fool. And out of nowhere came the dirt-y-deeds crew. Felipe, that is. Like gold. Saved me. I was at my wit's end trying to find a reliable person/crew to do my lawn. I tried Craigslist, word of mouth, Yellow Pages. They either didn't show up or didn't show up consistently or they were very unreasonably priced. When voicing my frustration, a friend handed me a card for Dirt-y-deeds and said her landlord used him. She couldn't vouch for him, but why not? It's not like my lawn will mow itself, and I don't have the time (okay, more I don't have the inclination, but let's not get distracted by details like this). Enter Felipe Comacho. I pay $25 every two weeks for my lawn to be mowed and edged, which is awesome, but the most important part to me is that he shows up! I never anticipated that being such a huge obstacle when I bought my house. Don't people want to create a name for themselves with their business? Don't they need repeat business to grow? Word of mouth? Felipe has also cut my tree branches ($20), cut down and hauled away an entire tree ($25), and loaded up and took into oblivion (or so I thought) my trash and wood leftovers from replacing my fence ($25). He knows I don't have a truck and recognizes when I need a little extra help..sometimes before I do. I enjoy conversing with him and can really tell he cares about his customers. Get this: when he is running late or needs to change our routine, he calls. Wha? Yes, he calls. Whatever came of those items he hauled away, you ask? He recycled everything he could, including using the old fence slats and posts to make ground stakes. He prides himself on being eco-friendly, which is important to me, too. I don't get how he does it so cheaply, but I won't start to question him, that's for sure. Well, now it's time to say goodbye to overgrown lawns and beds. I would like to thank Felipe for kindly haulin' off the dead. He is always invited back again to this locality because he gives a heapin' helping of hospitality. Reliability, that is. Mow well. I was so happy when TD Services told me that they could come out the next day. Tim was right on time, saw the problem and knew what to do. He worked very efficiently and also fixed a light socket in ceiling that had a broken lt bulb piece in it and replaced the light bulb. The charge was VERY reasonable and Tim is very nice.
