This store is my jam. Chock full of irreverent and sassy items, and lots of fun things I've never seen before. They have souvenir type items that don't scream "AUSTIN" which is more my speed. We were greeted right away when we walked in by a super friendly employee who chatted with us for awhile. I kept wandering around, finding so many cute and fun items and wishing we had a bigger suitcase so I could buy more stuff. Apparently they're known for their vintage pearl snap shirts with fun embroidery; I saw one with a cat with lasers coming out of its eyes, which I thought was great. I didn't even look at the pricing on them while in the store since I figured they'd be pretty expensive. They sell them on their website and it looks like they run about $59-$69. They also have other apparel, like a pair of sweatpants that said "work hard & eat lots of tacos," which I could definitely appreciate. I saw jewelry, makeup, lots of books, art, candles, including a big selection of those celebrity prayer candles, baby items, bath items, CBD joints, stickers... they have a lot of stuff packed in to this store but it doesn't feel overwhelming. It's really nicely curated and arranged. If I'm ever back in town I'm definitely going to stop in again. We ended up buying some stickers and a little "Daily Catitudes" desktop flip book with cute photos of kittens. If you have young kids who might wonder about the phallic looking design on a puzzle or is able to read curse words and you'd prefer they didn't... maybe don't bring them into this shop. read more

Awesome shop with fun, quirky items in South Congress! I was gonna pass up on Triple Z Threadz until I saw a Michael Scott candle in the window display. Yes, I need that in my life. Triple Z Threadz is an awesome store with apparel, home accessories, jewelry and gifts. There were a lot of items to like here, from the Austin mural prints, to the various collar shirts with a Sasquatch patch ironed on. Something will make you smile here. I like gift shops that aren't typical souvenir-y places with cheesy shot glasses and your name on a state license plate. This store had actual cool Austin gifts that people would wanted to be gifted! Staff were super friendly, as you're greeted once you step inside. When I purchased my candle they asked if they could wrap it up for me, after they found out I was traveling. As they say "KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD" and this is one of those boutiques that does exactly that for those wandering Congress Street. Signage on the door "Come In Were High" caught my attention so I came in. I didn't buy a thing but browsed thru the clothing racks and saw some interesting plaid western shirts with Lucha masks stitched onto the chest. Plus lots of little trinket items you'd purchase as fun gifts. After browsing the store I made a graceful exit and onward to the next store. read more

This shop had me laughing for a good 20 minutes. Local clothing and raunchy knickknacks? Count me in. We stopped in here while strolling down South Congress because there were some funny things in the window. Also, the sign outside was hilarious--a bad review from someone on Facebook that they used as a quote... was it sarcastic? Was it actually a bad review? Either was it made me laugh. You can find these kinds of novelty items everywhere, but their curation was specifically unique. There were some really cool pieces of art from local artists or lesser-known artists from other cities. Truth be told, I wasn't really looking for clothes so I didn't check out their selection, but I thought the concept of a local clothing shop was awesome. They take vintage/thrifty finds and make them unique (flannels, t-shirts, etc). Jordan and I ended up buying a painting to take home that was made by an artist in Nashville. She takes old paintings and puts pop-culture lyrics/phrases on top. I absolutely loved her stuff, so I was excited to put it up in my living room. Also, shout out to the reviewer who mentioned that it was bad form to take candid pictures of people and put them on the wall... That was a wall of shame for all the people they caught shoplifting. I'm pretty sure shoplifting from local artists is worse than posting your photo on a wall of public shame... but if you didn't already know that I will light a Nicholas Cage candle for you and pray that someday you will understand. read more

If you are from Austin or at least lived here for a minute then you have seen the vendors that hang out on South Congress on the weekends. Do you remember the vintage pearl snaps with the cool designs above the pockets?? You do remember ... ok cool! Me too! Well guess what ... they have a brick and mortar now! In case you are looking for them they are on or around the same block with Vespaio and South Congress Cafe, next to the bookstore. This place is so uniquely cool! They take vintage pearl snap shirts and then embroider them with their designs. They have all sorts of designs from King Kong or Sasquatch to cats with laser eyes or Texas themes. They are totally hip! Their shirts are for everyone too - not just the dudes. They also have some other unique designed items in their store like pillows with Samuel L Jackson's face on it or candle pillars with Bernie Sanders face on it! It's funny if you ask me. Anyway, if you are looking for something unique that definitely says Austin without saying Austin this is your place to get it in my opinion. My new favorite Austin local clothing store! Their shirts are all extremely well priced, and one of a kind. Be sure to check out every rack because all of their shirt patches are stylish to hilarious. Tip: Try multiple sizes because all of the shirts are unique. I'm normally a L, and some of their M's and XL's fit me better. I will be back, and plan to buy a ton more. read more

After having lunch on South Congress, I decided to roam the street and check out some of the shops. My favorite store during this shopping adventure was Triple Z Threads. I walked in and had no idea what this shop was about. A friendly staff member saw me wandering around and gave me the rundown of the store. Along with selling items that are made by local Austin artists, the store specializes in repurposing thrifted shirts (mainly button up flannels) by cleaning them and adding one of their patches. These patches are designed by the shop and they offer many different designs. David Bowie, Prince, other celebrities, and some sayings are some examples. Of course, when I saw the Prince shirts, I knew I had to get one. Most of the shop contains "men's" shirts, although they do have a small section of women's. I just went with a men's shirt, because they are basically unisex anyway. I'm so pleased with my one of a kind Prince flannel and love the other Austin items I picked up here as well. Hope to return when I'm back in Austin! read more

By far one of my favorite shops on South Congress. I purchased two pillows--Samuel Jackson and Christopher Walken. I also purchased a vintage pearl snap shirt with the Patterson film Bigfoot wearing a wristwatch sauntering across the shoulders. Folks working there were a hoot! Just sheer shopping joy! read more

For real, these folks are amazing. I was in Austin for the weekend, and fell in love with the cat beam eyes pearl snaps. I couldn't find one in my size so I emailed them. And they made it happen. This store is the best thing in Austin. And that's saying something 'cause I pretty much love everything in Austin. My husband & I flew back to the UK dreaming of the treasure we should have snapped up in this place. You can buy a lot of cool stuff in their online shop. But you see, they sell these shirts - pimped up vintage one-offs that you can't get online (you REALLY have to see them, they are fantastic). But an email and AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM MATT later we now have our little slice of Triple Z magic with us here in the UK. Went in to get my boyfriend an anniversary gift knowing that he likes this store but was less than impressed with the service when I went. I walked in right after getting off work on Tuesday and was greeted with a standard "Hey, how's it going?" And the clerk walked behind the register to change the music. I looked around to take everything in and went to find him for some advice. I asked if they had any wallets besides the one in the window and he just said they had other coin purses. I replied, "My boyfriend mention liking this store in general..." Then he cut me off and said "Well it must have been along time ago or he's wrong, we haven't had wallets in a long time. You might want to try the store across the street." Why was his first assumption I'm wrong? By that interaction alone I felt it necessary for me and my wallet to walk out of the store. I went to a few other places and lucky for them didn't find anything I liked so I went back to get the Bill Murray pillow I saw. It was $49. He rings me up and tells me if I want a receipt I will have to give my email because they do not have paper there. I then ask if they have any gift wrapping and again, no, they do not have paper there. I understand why you would want to cut down on paper for costs or, hell, maybe to help the environment and cut down on waste, but as someone who paid a good $50 on a pillow for a gift, please please have at least a recyclable gift wrapping option available. It would have made the gift seem a little more special if he saw a box or bag with his favorite store on it before even opening it. -Had the clerk been more concerned with what I was looking for or my needs more than the record he had in his hand I would have probably bought a couple of shirts, that pillow and a card. There was literally no one in the store. I am a woman in a mostly men's clothing store, I need and expect help; it wouldn't have even been a hard sell. That interaction alone tells me that either the employees do not get compensated enough to care about everyone that walks in the door OR this man simply did not care about his job. -Carry some gift wrapping please. I would gladly pay the extra couple of dollars for the costs or service fee. Believe me, I understand not everyone should need it but for those who do it makes a difference to have that logo stamped on the box/bag before they even open it. I may not favor this store but he does which is why I was there in the first place. -One great thing I can say about the store is that it looked great, displays were nice, everything was clean and tidy. FYI: This wasn't supposed to be such a lengthy review but upon finding no way on their website to contact the company directly, this might be the best way to let them know what happened. I know I spent too much time on this review but as someone who tries to shop locally, it really sucks when bad customer service makes it that much harder. read more

I was watching The Great American Read on PBS and Wil Wheaton was wearing a cool button up shirt with Sasquatches (wearing wristwatches!!) on either side of the collar. There is no way I could see this and not buy one for my boyfriend, so I immediately Googled and found Triple Z Threadz...except they were out of his size in all colors. I emailed asking if they might restock and within an hour had a response from Matthew letting me know he could send me one that's not yet available on the website. I went in two months ago and I was interested in buying the Sasquatch pearl snap shirt for my mother. When my friend and I were looking around the store I mentioned how weird I thought it was that my mother believes in Sasquatch. Our conversation was overheard by an older male employee. He noticed my cross I was wearing and promptly said,"Kind of like believing that a little baby was here to save us" As a proud Christian I didn't know what to say. I just ended up leaving the store without buying anything. He was probably trying to be funny, but I found the remark very insensitive to my religion. I felt so uncomfortable with that encounter. I've never had a clerk speak to me like that. I'm still in disbelief that he said that to me. I'll stick to online shopping if all of the triple z employees are like this. read more
