No pool, no real swimming area, no activities. One small swing set with a wooden fire truck looking structure where the kids can play in but beware of giant spider webs and spiders... This location isn't too far from the Waterville area where there is still nothing to do but many shopping areas and food. Children'a museum, two cent bridge... 5 below, McDonald's play place. The bad: Poison Ivy... be careful when going to hook up your camper to the septic and electric and water. Poison ivy ruined my husbands week(s). Not bad for the full hookup and price.

Jon has a very laid back management of the park, which is nice that you can just go enjoy yourself. He is always around, so if you get stuck, he can come unstuck you. No matter the size (bulldozer and escavtor on site if it is that bad!). He also encourages people to make trails of their own if they'd like. Just keep it in the property's borders (which are massive so that is easy!). He also cooks if you bring a group for a day or weekend trip. The food is always amazingly good. If you call ahead and schedule, then when you arrive in the morning he will usually have breakfast ready for you (the french toast is unreal), with all the trimmings (bacon, toast, coffee, soda, milk, water, real maple syrup, as well as fake maple syrup. Lunches and dinners are always a toss up - but always good! and always way more than enough food. The lodge is a little rough, but it matches the nature of the park. Fireplae in the corner for the fall and spring. I've heard him mention that he does a snowcross track in the winter too, but haven't had a chance to go yet. And the huge couches around the fireplace may look gross, but seriously try sitting there after a day of wheeling... if you aren't asleep in five minutes than you still have more park to see! Campsites are spread around the lodge. Far enough that you can camp, and not be bothered by anyone else's noise. He has some old RV's parked on some of the sites, that I think he used to rent out. Looks like someone broke in and destroyed all of them though. Definitely stay out of them haha. We tented out and slept in our trucks and had a blast. Right below the lodge are two large mud pits, a dirtbike track with some decent sized woops, and a small rock pile with some good obstacles for rock crawlers. One of the trails takes you right to the top of Winter Hill. You can see for miles, its very pretty, and the trip is usually a few hours up the trails so its a good half-day run. This park needs more visitors. I fear if people don't start hitting this place harder, he may just close up. This park has SO MUCH potential, and is really the "free-est" terrain in maine from legislature. If you haven't been, it's worth the trip at least once. Alcohol is permitted as long as it is kept reasonable. We usually are having too much fun during the day to remember that we have beer. - NO GLASS! Have been going for 2 years and will continue to go as long as it is open!

Black Mountain of Maine is a wonderful anti-corporate answer to the "big" areas. Cozy, friendly, and beautiful runs down the mountain. A place where kids can run around without fear or the need for parental hovering. A kick-butt bar with live music. Simply, what skiing was and should be.... We got here for the first time on the Indy Pass as we have been visiting Indy areas, some of them for several years in a row. Black Mountain is a short drive away from downtown Rumford, a paper mill, quaint town of 6,000 people featuring historic homes and a working downtown. Arriving at Black Mountain, the large lodge is quite welcoming, with just about every conceivable need within the lodge. Once outside, the beginner's Novice Lift provides optimal runs for novices or warmups. The main lift, although a slow fixed triple, allows access to most of the 1,100 vertical terrain and a variety of trails. It should be said that with some effort and uphill hiking, there is another side of the mountain, glades galore, that is accessible from this area. There is yet another T-bar that provides access to even more terrain. Apres-ski, we were treated to a superb pub with great rock music, plenty of beer, and great company. Overall, the vibe in this mountain is what I remember skiing was like from my youth. Unhurried, civil, friendly, and simple. Awesome place.

In an effort to kick off the new year on a positive note my fiancé and I decided to go away for a…read morecouple of nights the first weekend of 2021. After searching for dog friendly places in the New England area for a couple of hours we finally stumbled upon Pressey House in Oakland, ME on Airbnb. Neither of us had ever heard of the town but a quiet Bed & Breakfast on a lake sounded good to us. A few nights later we made the 3 hour drive to Oakland, ME where we checked into the Granite Suite. Originally we were a little dubious because the walls of the suite are described as being the original foundation of the home from 1850 so we were afraid that it might feel like we were in a dark, damp cave but when our Host, Nikki, showed us to where we were going to be staying nothing could have been further from the truth. Although all the of the walls were either granite or brick, the front of the suite was bright with natural light thanks to the window and door and the back of the suite with the comfy, King sized bed had a cozy feel to it. There are a couple of cool little brick arches in the suite that are a unique architectural feature. The bathroom was surprisingly roomy which you don't always find at a B&B and even though there is no bathtub the shower stall had excellent water pressure and didn't feel cramped . The suite also had a pretty good size kitchenette which was really handy to have the two nights we were there. My favorite feature though was the gas fireplace. Each night my fiancé and I spent hours in front of it playing cards and relaxing. It was especially welcome since it snowed while we were there, and nothing is better than coming in from the cold and warming up in front of the fire. There is WiFi available and our signal was strong enough that we experienced no internet issues on our phones and tablets. There is a main common area that was split into two sections: The front section which has a sitting area in front of a wood burning fireplace and the back section which overlooks the lake and functions as a dining space. The quintessential New England feel of the room is warm, inviting and really makes you think of the long history of the home. Although we were the only ones having breakfast each morning in the common area because everyone else was a long term rental, Nikki made sure that she still pulled out all the stops for us. One morning we had fruit salad, cinnamon rolls, homemade frittata, and sausage and then the next day we feasted on fruit salad, pancakes and homemade corned beef hash. The first night that we arrived Nikki had left homemade cookies in our room. The following day at breakfast she got some ideas of what kind of desserts we liked and we came back from a day exploring the area to some homemade strawberry thumbprint cookies in our room (which my fiancé LOVED). So, saying that Nikki is a good cook, who will feed you well feels like an understatement. Our most favorite part of the Pressey House though was Nikki, her husband Ron and their family (pups included). They were extremely friendly, professional, accommodating in every way and it's clear that they want every guest to have an amazing experience when you stay with them. From chatting with Nikki & Ron we learned that they have just recently purchased the inn and have some big plans for it. We can say with certainty that we will be going back for another visit and we look forward to seeing any improvements that they make since it will make an already fabulous B&B even better. We're also looking forward to getting to see the gorgeous lake that Pressey House sits on during the summertime.
