While we did have a great time, my butt has never been more sore. Chalk that up to the seats on the brewbarge being actual hard bike seats. My suggestion would be to bring a small pillow. It might seem silly, but your tush will thank you later. In theory, a BYOB party barge is a great idea. However; they don't have a toilet so you best not drink too much. You also need a lot of steam (energy) to keep the barge moving so you shouldn't get wasted or your legs will get lazy. Our driver and host were super personable and let our bachelorette be the dj and play her tunes from her itunes. We had an awesome time doing the brew barge! I booked this for myself and 3 friends...a friend had to drop out and another friend came in her place and the whole team at BrewBarge was super awesome about working with me on logistics. We originally were booked for 3pm, and were asked if we'd consider moving to be with a larger group since we were the only ones booked for 3. We're very glad we did as this is definitely something to do as a part of a big group. Bring your music and bring your own beer (or wine or cider or whatever you're feeling) - they provide coolers for you to keep your beverage chilled, and a sound system to plug your music into. You basically pedal the barge down the river and back, although with a full group none of us had to work that hard at pedaling :) It's $35 and you're on the boat about an hour and a half. I would recommend booking the whole barge with a big group or making sure you book a cruise that has a full boat. The price is a little spendy but we had such a great time, it's not that big of a deal. I brought some snacks which was fine. The people here are super chill and friendly and will work with you for whatever you need. What are you waiting for? Go get your barge on! read more

What a fun, fun, fun.....event to do with your friends. Some of my work friends and I wanted to do a little team building and this brew barge was perfect. We arrived at 5:30 for our 6:00 tour. We were greeted and on the boat promptly at 6pm. We were allowed to have 3 drinks and snacks on our tour. Our captain Jim (I think) and his wife, Darleen (I think) were such great hosts. They took photos for us, jammed to our music and made the whole event fun. We pedaled down to the steel bridge and stopped for some scenic photos. We pedaled back to the Riverplace marina, about 90 minutes round trip. We didn't think about tipping so we were figuring that out while on the boat. I'd plan on each person tipping $5. They really deserve it. I can't wait to do this again next summer. read more

The BrewBarge was amazing! We had a meeting (for reals!). One person can stand at the table to take notes and keep the meeting moving - everyone else peddles and we all have beer! Win-win!! It was completely beautiful on the water, great views of the city! Here are some tips - 1) growlers are great for the boat, they supply the cups! 2) totally go the restroom before you leave - and pace yourself, there are no bathrooms on the boat. 3) if you get tired of pedaling (for us girls under 5'3" - it can be a little challenging even in the adjustable seats) just tell your driver and they will happily let you float! 4) bring water and some snacks! 5) not sure if you have enough beer or want to ensure variety - there is plenty available when you sign up. We had a large group reservation for one of the boats in early April for a bachelor party. Unfortunately, coronavirus changed our plans and also shutdown BrewBarge for while. But the company was very proactive in reaching out and providing full refunds for all reservations, no questions asked. Unfortunately, the money did not come through after several weeks because their refund processing company was on major backlog. I spoke with the owner who was very friendly and she assured me that I would be receiving a full refund soon. Since the processing company still had not given my refund after nearly 3 months, she sent over the full refund amount via Venmo, taking on the responsibility of the refund that should have come from the processing company. This was a very kind gesture on her part, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic where many small businesses are suffering. My group really appreciates this act of gratitude during difficult times. We will definitely be making another reservation at BrewBarge in the future whenever we make our way out to Portland again! read more

We gathered Two large groups of folks for a birthday celebration and were informed that we should arrive a half hour early (530pm) to get everyone situated and ready to hop on the boats (6pm). We all get there on time. Excited. Ready to hit the river. But instead we arrive to find out one of their boats was broken. With no plan in place, and nobody looking to provide high quality customer service, they decided to delay our trip 45 minutes past our start time of 6pm, and then continued to cut our trip in half. So instead of getting the advertised 90 minute trip we paid for -- we only got half of that. Not to mention our second group only got a thirty minute trip because they had to wait for the working boat to return from a trip in progress. To top it all off they had no problem rushing us off of the boat to board a new group who probably ended up getting what they actually paid for, which is great for them...but unfortunately it was at the cost of our trip being completely upended by the teams' lack of organization. Additionally/Overall the staff wasn't too cool either. The bike pedals on the boat is a real gimmick. Don't fall for that joke. They have a motor on the boat so if you do go with them just sit back and enjoy the ride. The pedals mean nothing at all. Moral of the story: I don't recommend this team or experience at all. Spend your money with a more organized team that values customer service. Overall Experience: 0 stars + 1 Bonus Star because the guy steering the boat let us smoke weed while we were on the water. Great experience on the brew barge. The captain and first mate (I think that's the applicable terminology), we're great hosts. You can travel up north of the river passing through downtown, or down south. We travelled up north, which provided a very lively view of the city. Pedalling was actually fun. I've rented out the BrewCycle several times and really enjoyed it. Good bar tours, discounts at the stops, charismatic tour guide, etc. The BrewBarge had a lot of similarities. The Good: Beautiful day, clean and well designed boat, really friendly captain, a nice way to get some exercise while knocking back pints. The captain also took care to set us up well, timing-wise, as well as demonstrated knowledge of the river and manning that wheel. Prost! The Annoying: Communication as to where to meet up was sent in an email. However, when you show up, the door is padlocked and no one is around. We walked down to the boat and got scolded back up to the top. Not a huge deal, but they looked put out. I get it: tourists are finicky and they probably have to say it often. Perhaps staff the physical office, though, and the mistake wouldn't have been made. Not a big deal. The Bad: The ticketing system messed up, allowing 15 people to register (sort of), which meant that one person had to stay behind. Probably a database issue but I was bummed to leave my wife behind (I was entertaining clients and someone had to stay). It should also be noted that the one registrant received an email alert that a bank transaction had gone through: upon review, no money was taken and the confirmation email was never received. Definitely an online transaction problem but this did really hurt the night for a couple of us. All in all, I'd advise that you try this BYOB service and get out on the river. The little annoyances were overshadowed by the positives. read more

This tour was so much fun - and who doesn't like calorie-free beer or cider :P You will get your workout and see the sites along the river... such a great experience and the guys on our tour were a lot of fun as well. You have the option to play DJ and if you pedal hard enough - will get to see even more of the river... the barge will go as fast as you make it go (there is a motor assist if you get tired). This was such a fun experience. It's a 90 minute ride where you paddle along the river and take in all the beautiful sights. It is byob but we didn't mind. My group and I picked up some appetizers from the bar near the location which ended up being perfect for our cruise. Would recommend others do that as well. 3 beers doesn't seem like a lot but it was perfect for our bladder since you have to wait till you dock again to hit a bathroom. This is a USCG Inspected vessel with a Licensed Captain in charge so you know you are safe to Party. My recommendation is for the 11 am cruise and bring mimosas with a continental breakfast. Alternatively, the last ride of the evening 7 or 8 pm so that you can see the lights of the city come on. Then have a nice dinner at three degrees or McCormick. read more

This was an awesome experience! Came all the way from Minnesota for a girl's trip and found this online. You can make your reservation and sign your waiver all online to save time. We got to pedal down the river and see 4-6 different bridges. They let us play the music and drink and relax. They were very friendly and helpful with all of our needs. Not from Portland but a friend of mine recommended we try it with her (and friends) and it was a great experience! They have BrewBikes where I'm from in Sacramento but I was never too interested in them but when I heard that they had something similar but in the water I had to try it. The staff was very friendly and the weather was perfect the day we went. You are only limited to 32oz a person (3 bottles) of alcohol which is kind of a bummer but with there being no bathroom access for an hour and a half it's probably best there are limitations.
